I don't normally review online, but I am so happy we chose Affordable Home Services for our addition on our home in West Caldwell in 2010 that I had to make an exception. During the course of the project John and his team were professional, reliable and a pleasure to work with in every aspect. The price they quoted was the price we paid; even though the original plans changed slightly, we were never asked to pay more for the additional work. The job was finished one time and better than expected; we trusted the team so much we even went on vacation and John sent us pictures to keep us informed of the progress. Some time after the addition, our newly installed balcony began to leak; we called John who returned immediately to resolve the issue, and even fixed a couple of other small things he noticed while he was there that were never part of the job. The balcony proved to be an issue a second time, and John immediately returned to fix it again, this time ripping the whole thing out and reinstalling it to ensure we never were inconvenienced again; all along maintaining a great attitude and never making me feel bad for calling. Knowing that we were in such great hands not only during the project; but also covered anytime down the line should something come up, makes me feel lucky we choose an established complany like Affordable Home Services. DO NOT USE AFFORDABLE HOME SERVICES! After a recent purchase of my first home, I hired affordable home to redo my kitchen floor (total cost $3,300). While I understand the severity of the weather that we had this past winter, the lack of response of the team (very rarely called us back when we called them) was unacceptable. I understand not being able to make it to the job, but at least call us back when we call. That was just the beginning. The floor took a week or so to complete. That wasn't without them putting holes in our freshly painted walls, chipping mouldings, leaving sawdust all over our basement (which came through the kitchen floor), throwing grout on our deck and into the snow in the yard (which its now on the pavers), etc. They fixed the hole in the wall but we still had to repaint the wall and trim, we will have to power wash the deck, etc.. Over the last week, our slop sink and pipe to the washer has been backing up and flooding out basement with water whenever we used the washer/kitchen sink. After paying a plumber $200.00 to help us with the issue, it turns out there was GROUT, SAW DUST, AND TILE IN THE DRAIN. So clearly, materials were being washed in the slop sink which, in turn, cost us more money. Thank you, Affordable, for charging us $3,300 for a subpar job and another $200.00+ in headaches. Please, save yourselves the aggravation and hire another contracting company. read more

Affordable did a pretty good job installing our new siding. The big problem is we signed up for the job we constantly had to keep after them to find out when they were coming to start the job. After they were midway through the job they disappeared and the completion took place over a week later while our driveway was unusable with their materials and dumpster. Jim would give us dates and times when they would come to finish the work only to have us sit at home waiting. They would not come or even call to let us know there was a delay. We would always have to call them. Showed absolutely no consideration for our time. A window was broken during the project and they ordered a replacement and when they came to install it, it was the wrong size. A month later we had not heard so I contacted Jim and was told John would be coming that Friday between 9 and 10am. At 11am we texted Jim to find out what was going on and never received a reply. They showed NO consideration for our time on several occasions by committing to come leaving us stranded at home waiting for them only to have them no show and we always had to contact them to prod them to set up another date for the work to be continued. They would be a good choice only if you have no cares about when the work would be done and how long the project would take to complete, and if you never, EVER leave your home read more

Affordable Home Services provided a detailed description of the work to be provided in writing. They followed up via telephone to let me know when the work would be performed (it was scheduled for exactly 1.5 days within 1.5 weeks from the day of the estimate). This allowed me to move the cars out of the garage and driveway. The day the work was going to be performed a dumpster was parked in my driveway and the work crew covered my bushes and grass with perforated tarp (this kept the bushes looking fresh and the grass green). Jim came to my house early in the morning and reminded me of exactly what was going to happen and how long it would take. He is very personable and I appreciated exchanging pleasantries while he provided assurance of everything being performed. The crew worked well and paid close attention to the details. The roof was installed in 1-day and then the gutters were installed the day after. The crew cleaned up everything and even used a high powered magnet on wheels to ensure any loose pieces of metal were collected. The dumpster was removed later on the 2nd day. Jim was there in the evening after the jobs were completed to assess the installation and ensure no scrap was remaining on the ground. Jim did renovation for our house in 2014 and service was great. Again we hired Jim for remodeling as we wanted a family room. Initially our plan was to convert the attached garage to a living room. Jim suggested adding room to the other side while retaining the garage. We are so thankful to his idea that now we have our garage and a beautiful family room which can be easily accessed from our living room. Jim worked closely with town to get approval from zoning and got all the permits. Work moved at a nice pace and finally everything came out so beautiful. Addition looks like it was always part of the house. We are so happy with the hard work and dedication of Jim's team. Now we have a big family room ready for summer. read more

we were lucky living in this house for 32 years and never having any roof problems but it was high time that we needed a brand new roof. we had estimates from 6 different contractors . some estimates were close in price but there were reasons as to me doubting what i was being told. affordable was who we chose and im glad. jim had replaced the roof, repaired siding and replaced trim around all windows and doors. we are extremely satisfied. work was started not long after we signed on. did not use credit cards with the desire to reduce our total costs. ...banks are in the business to make money, not from me.... when its time for additional work on the house i will contact jim for an estimate. read more

Almost two weeks after Super Storm Sandy and the 3 companies I've called for a slight repair on facing have either not returned my call. I found an ad for Affordable Home Services in Clipper Magazine in the mail on Thursday, called and actually spoke with a person! Jim introduced himself as the owner and told me someone would be out Saturday morning between 8 and 12 to make the repair. At 12:02pm Ron and Anthony were at our home, repaired the facing in less than 30 minutes, and did a good job of it as well, for a fair price. No debris left, just smiles and relief. read more
