There is a learning curve with the Ipad compared to my seven year old Dell laptop. Todd is extremely knowledgeable and was extremely patient with me as I stumbled through the learning curve. He was also able to save all my photos and documents from my old laptop and transfer them to the iPad. If you are thinking about purchasing an Apple product I highly recommend Todd. Although Todd is very knowledgeable he apparently has a no return policy if a customer is not satisfied with the product. Buyer Beware!

He asked how I heard about him and I told him Yelp. I asked how long of a drive it was from my location to Eagle Point and he said it would be about 45 mins. When I pulled into his driveway he called and told me he had opened a store at Rogue Valley Mall and that he was actually there (meaning I had driven 25 minutes further than I needed to). I drove the 25 minutes back the way I had come to Medford and went to the mall to Smart Help where he now works. I let him know I didn't want to spend too much money and he asked what my budget was. I asked him how much transferring documents and giving me a quick rundown of the new Mac would be. He quoted me $200 to update my old MacBook, $150 for the external hard drive that I told him I was not in the market for, $150 for transferring my documents, $100 for wiping my old MacBook and $100 for a "recorded dock tutorial." In total Todd tried to tell me it would cost me $700 to get documents off my old laptop onto my new one "the right way." I called around and got 2 quotes for what I want at $40 and $45. I dug around in the reviews that are not recommended and others seem to think he is a scam artist. Needless to say I left his store after having wasted time but thankfully not money.

Competent But Off-Putting…read more I contacted SmartHelp for assistance with two specific tasks: to connect a new monitor and a new printer to my older desktop computer. Todd, from SmartHelp, does know his stuff, he is competent and took care of both of my asks. However, I found that Todd asked questions that I felt were not necessary. In addition I found his personal style and certain, what can only be described as business practices, too personal and thus off-putting. 1) As part of the job, Todd's first request was to input my personal information into his phone. I specifically found the requests for both my date of birth & my photo quite worrisome and unnecessary. 2) I found Todd's style of "up-selling" quite disconcerting. For example he said he wanted to take my laptop computer to his home to "set up properly." This, of course, would have presumably incurred a myriad of additional charges, none of which were discussed. He asked to take the laptop multiple times despite my repeated no's. 3) Without my permission Todd input my credit card information into his phone while I was out of the room! Unacceptable! In the end it felt to me that, beyond the requested tasks that were accomplished, I was also charged for his requests for my personal information, as well the time spent "up-selling." I found and consider these things to specifically be poor business practices. Be aware and be wary and further be prepared to say "no," i.e. don't let your guard down!

He assured us that if anyone could extract photo files from our son's passcode-locked iPhone, he was the guy. It was clear, from the moment he started trying, that he was clueless. He started by asking us to give him some passcodes to try. This was a totally random approach, and I should have stopped the session right there since my wife and I had no idea what our son's passcode might be. When it was clear that this crazy approach was going down a hopeless rabbit trail, he switched to calling Apple customer service for help. After Todd spent maybe an hour on the phone with Apple customer service with little or nothing to show for it and with no further options available to us at the time, we parted company. But Todd inexplicably claimed we had made "progress" when we hadn't. And he was happy to take our money for the supposed two hours of "services" that he claimed he had provided. Needless to say, we never contacted Todd again. But hopefully we learned our lesson. We'll be more careful with the next consultant we might choose to work with.

I've been driving by this shop for 5 years, and was always intrigued by it, thinking I'd stop in some day and consider the options for a back up PC. I live in a rural area, miles away from anyone I would trust for this matter, so having a back up makes sense. Anyway, I finally got around to stopping in because my current laptop runs on Windows 7 and that is incompatible with Turbotax. I sure as heck wasn't going to *pay* a tax preparer to do my 5 minute return, So I needed a Windows 10 or later OS. I explained the situation to Rob, the owner, and he listened patiently, and then took the time to explain why my apprehension about updating my old laptop from Windows 7 was justified. I left 15 minutes later with a reconditioned small tower. It was $169, out the door, and is more than fast enough and capable for my needs. It's also really quiet. The cats seem to like the subtle hum it emanates. FYI, I have multiple displays and other peripheral equipment and thus only needed a computer. (It's amazing what you can get at estate sales...) Rob was also kind enough to install and ensure the operation of the tax software, gratis. I don't know if they normally charge for that but he recognized that given that I live multiple hours away and only come into Medford occasionally, it was doubly important to me that the install worked. I recommend this shop to anyone wanting to be able to articulate their computing needs and get them met promptly and $ efficiently. No sales pressure, either. For what it's worth, it's also nice to see electronic equipment being recycled/reutilized. This place is like a good auto mechanic's shop. Nice to know it exists and an ace in your back pocket.
