I don't know how Bob has 5 stars...This repair shop was recommended to me by a colleague of mine for repairs to my 4Runner after a minor rear-end collision. I went in for an estimate and met Bob, who was nice and seemed like a stand-up guy. The original repair to the bumper was done in a timely manner, but when I received the car the bumper was not fully "clipped in" - Bob slammed it with his fist, popped it in place and sent me on my way. When I returned home the bumper has come back out of place and, so I returned the car three times to have it fixed properly...It came back a tiny bit better each time but never "fixed". Today I took my car to the dealership to have them look at it, and they wanted to know who I let touch my car as the out of place bumper was the result of "poor workmanship". They showed me pictures of where the bumper was held in place by screws....not the proper hardware to secure the bumper, but just random screws you might use for a household project. Bob and his team cut corners, they do not provide the highest quality of work, and are not trust worthy. I would not recommend taking your vehicle to them for anything. There is a reason they come in below others with their estimates. If you have gone to them for repairs, I'd recommend getting someone to go over their work. I don't post reviews often, but only do so when I encounter an exceptional business. I found Affordable Auto Painting through google and Angie's List reviews. As I recall, Affordable was the only paint shop to have 100% 5 star reviews, and a great sample size of 45 of them. I shopped around at another shop Econo auto body, which only did single stage paint (like Maaco), and they were trying to charge me almost as much as a 2 stage paint job that Bob had promised me. They did some body work to my 1996 Nissan 300x, stripped the old green paint, and painted it a beautiful ultramarine blue. It looks like it is pretty much new off the lot! I am extremely happy with the quality work they did and will happily recommend them to anyone. Looking at the website, the owner Bob only has a couple unclear pictures of his work. Those pictures do not do his work justice. If you go to his shop, and take a look at the example vehicles he has on premises, the cars are painted just as well as a car out of the factory. If I had a recommendation it would be to include a gallery of more cars he has painted before and after because pictures are a thousand words. But the reviews don't lie. I am really thrilled at the new life instilled into my older sports car and can't stop looking at it! Btw, his shop is a little hard to get to. We had to circle around a couple times. When you get to Capital Blvd stay on the left side at the fork. 100 ft after you will see a bright color sign that says Affordable Auto Painting. Recently a neighbor backed into my vehicle and damaged my front grill. Luckily, my neighbor left a note of apology and a phone number. I brought my car to Caliber in Raleigh and they couldn't look at my car to give me an estimate for 6 weeks. I then called Caliber in Cary, and their reply was 4 weeks before they would be able to provide me with an estimate. After a couple of calls to other repair shops, I called Affordable Auto and spoke to Miller, explaining my situation. She told me to come to the shop at my convenience, which I did the next day. Upon arriving at the auto repair shop, Tevin almost immediately came out to look at my car to see what part was needed in order to provide me with an accurate estimate. Having the estimate in my hand, I presented it to my neighbor and he gave me a check to cover the repairs. I called Miller and asked her to order the part, and to please call me when it arrives so I could bring in my vehicle. A week later I received a call from Miller, and made a plan to bring my car in during my lunch break, and pick it up at the end of the day. When I pulled up to this body shop, Bob came right out to greet me and gave me an estimate quickly and efficiently. He ended up replacing my side mirror, front bumper, and repainting my entire car for a very reasonable price. When I picked up my 2005 Nissan Sentra, I couldn't believe how clean it looked. My car had several small scratches and paint chips before bringing it to Bob's. When I saw my car after the work was completed, it was perfectly white again with no dings visible. Paint job was fine. Reasonable price, decent work. PROBLEM: they drove my car approximately 270 miles while they had it. I clear my odometer and log my mileage every time i fill my gas tank, done it my whole life. Somehow my odomoter had 300 miles on it and a completely full gas tank when I picked it up from them. At least they filled the gas tank up. If i didn't track and clear my odometer every single time i get gas, wouldn't have noticed. Sadly for them, I do. Would not recommend or return b/c they've lost my trust. And no, I didn't just forget to clear my odometer. Mileage log shows about 270 miles unaccounted for since dropping car off to be painted. Also, noticeable white dusty handprints on the moon roof and two different AC vents. BEWARE: your car may be driven--a lot--while they have it. UPDATE in response to Bob's comment: The car was ready on a Friday afternoon but due to my work schedule and Bob's hours, I was unable to pick the car up til the following Thursday (and was not charged for additional storage time, which i appreciate). Meaning, the car sat there over the weekend. If i'm an employee and need a car for myself or a family member, and i know there's a perfectly good car going unused over a weekend that i can "Borrow" and have back by monday, well.... what the owner doesn't know doesn't hurt them, right? I keep a detailed mileage log for tax purposes and somehow the car acquired an additional 270 miles just sitting in the parking lot, while maintaining a full gas tank. I didn't contact the owner b/c i wasn't looking for a refund. I figured he would deny it--he was either aware of the problem and would deny it, or truly unaware that the car was borrowed and would deny it. Either way, won't change that it happened. I noticed the mileage and gas tank discrepancies two minutes after leaving the parking lot. I waited to post the review b/c i don't like to leave negative reviews and i debated for a long time about whether to do so. I decided, in light of all the glowing positive reviews, that it might be helpful to others to document my experience. It also wasn't that big a deal to me so i kept forgetting to do so--I am disappointed that my car was driven without my permission and i will not be recommending them, but it's not an actionable offense, either. Boils down to, my mileage log doesn't lie. The car mysteriously acquired 270 miles sitting in a parking lot and the gas tank mysteriously refilled itself. My fault for letting it sit there over a weekend after it was ready, but i didn't have any other options. Since this review was filtered, i suspect few people will see this anyway but at least be aware there's a possibility your car will be driven without your knowledge. read more

Went to Affordable Auto Paint and Body in early August and met with Brad, Shop Mgr....I told him I had been to several body shops in and around Raleigh, and I wanted to get an estimate to do a color change, paint Job on my 1992 Mustang....I did not have my car with me, so Brad did not want to do an estimate without seeing the car, but I just wanted to get an idea if they were really Affordable...I came back with the Mustang the next day and Brad looked it over and gave me an estimate...Not only was their price better, but the turnaround time on the paint job was a lot sooner also...Comparing Apples to Apples, lets just say I saved several hundred dollars and about 2 weeks total on what Brads estimate was for compared to the rest of the body shops who gave me a quote...I delivered the car to the shop the next week, and crossed my fingers that they could and would deliver...Well about 2 weeks later, just as promised I got the call that I could come and inspect the car...It was outside, sitting in the sun, Glowing in Viper Red...You should have saw the smile on my face...Not only did it look great, but Affordable Auto Paint and Body delivered even more to me than I had expected, especially at the price point we settled on...After all, I did not have an unlimited budget, and they did not use all of it up either...I can truly say that I am 100% satisfied with my paint job, and the customer service that Bob and Brad gave me before and after the job was first rate...
