Dr is amazing. The Front office is HORRIBLE. I have been a patient for 9 months - To date we have had zero calls on biopsy reports and we have had 11 biopsies. I have tried to use the "chat" option only to wait over 3 hours without a response. I have called the office and left messages to have calls returned and to date have yet to receive one. My most recent experience : it has been 3 weeks since a biopsy of a previous cancerous spot, no call with results, I have left a number for call back 3 days ago, no call back- spent over 3 hours in a chat without a response. You can not reach the office as all calls go through an offsite Call center. Love the Dr but will have to look elsewhere. read more

For one, they are literally impossible to get a hold of. I have had two full body exams, they are the fastest and most inefficient exams I haive ever received from a dermatologist. No skin mapping to document growth of any moles/areas of concern, despite being a several time skin cancer patient. You are just a number at this place. This place is horrible! They sent ME a text saying it was time for my yearly appointment, so I went ahead and booked it. The earliest they could book a yearly appointment was for 3 months out. The day before the appointment came and they left me a message (not even 24 notice) that they had not received the referral giving me no time at all to contact my Dr. so they wanted me to reschedule. Now the soonest they can get me in is November????? 3 more months away? Terrible customer service. I work in the medical industry and would never recommend this office for anything. read more

I was very disappointed with my teenage son's appointment with Alexandra Apodaca. She did not perform a close examination of his skin so I was surprised when she started rattling off a long list of medications and product recommendations after simply asking him about his current skincare routine. My son, who is 6'2", was seated on the exam table, while Ms. Apodaca remained seated the entire time on a low stool across the room. There was a significant distance and height difference between them. When I asked if she was going to examine his face more closely, she replied, "I can see from here." Given the distance, I found that response surprising and was concerned that his skin was not being evaluated thoroughly before treatment recommendations were made. What I also found concerning was what happened after Ms. Apodaca responded, "I can see from here." She stared directly at me in silence for about 10 seconds before continuing. The interaction felt intimidating and left me uncomfortable asking any additional questions about my son's treatment. The purpose of this appointment was for the medical provider to assess his skin, determine the type and severity of his acne, and recommend treatment based on that assessment. Instead, it felt as though recommendations were being made without a thorough evaluation of his individual skin concerns. Overall, the appointment felt rushed, impersonal, lacking in thoroughness, and intimidating. As a parent, I expected a careful examination, an individualized assessment of my son's skin, and a collaborative discussion about his treatment options. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I would not return to Ms. Apodaca or recommend her to others seeking dermatologic care. read more

I don't normally put reviews on, but I have not been happy with anything they've done from the beginning to the end. starting as a new patient all the way till today when I needed my records faxed to someplace else, she literally literally put me back in the queue or on hold purposely her name is Nina. Very bad customer service, but I'd say don't go to these guys. If anything go to Summit View dermatologist super good. Like I said, I do not ever put reviews on. I see Carolyn Klement for hydrafacials. She is wonderful. However, the communication with the "call center" is beyond horrible. You cannot reschedule or schedule online. They send you a text and don't reply when you answer. I have been going to Carolyn for a year and a half and every time I need to talk to the "call center" they don't answer and don't call you back. Whoever manages this practice really has to take a hard look at what is going on. I would never use Affiliated for my dermatology needs since I use an office that actually answers the phone. My son was seen as a cash pay new patient in Tempe initially by Dr. Lavian - the Tempe office and Dr. Lavian were above and beyond amazing. We were not rushed. My questions were answered, concerns addressed - the cash pay fee was exactly what I was told. $151.93 BUT we had our 30 day follow up at the Gilbert office with Dr. Newsome (30 day accutane follow up) - we spent less than eight minutes with her. It was cut and dry - the follow up cash pay price of $122.98 - was CHARTED & billed as a level three for $173.35!!!!!! outrageous!! completely the opposite feel from Dr. Lavian. Being a cash pay direct pay it means the world to have a provider understand cash pay visits are tough and imperative that they do not price gouge and upsell just because they can - I can't get transferred to the Gilbert location. Nobody will reply to my email. And billing department was unable to help. read more

So there I was - that little bump on my back became a bruise the size of a fist. I needed help and some serious relief to the nagging and sometimes sharp pain. Turns out it was a sebaceous cyst that Affiliated Derm diagnosed, drained, and removed with great care. The stars for this practice are earned by the clinicians and front office administrative staff. I was impressed by the friendly and courteous bedside manner of everyone I came in touch with. During this time of COVID, the front office staff did a good job of social distancing patients, and managing a safe and careful check-in. My initial dermatologist, Stephanie, did a great job of draining my annoying cyst and packaging me up to prepare for surgery a couple weeks later. The excision (removal) itself was quick, and I never felt a thing. While I waited to get my stitches removed, I went back a few times to have my bandages changed, which only took a couple minutes each time. The only downsides were regarding initial scheduling, and then the supporting materials regarding the care of my wound. The scheduling is done by a central location, and it was tough to get a quick appointment despite the urgency I conveyed. Then, after each visit, I would have appreciated some specific instructions or recommendations for how to dress and care for my wound. I asked after my surgery, but only got a generic verbal answer about keeping my skin covered. So, I opted to call and schedule the intermittent bandage changes more often, but resorted to calling the urgent line to reach the physical office scheduling department. Aside from those small administrative aspects, I really have no qualms about this office, and they took great care of me. A few weeks since my surgery, my scar is healing nicely, I am back to working out, rolling around the carpet with my kids, and no more pain! Woo hoo! read more

I'm not sure about the other negative reviews of this place as my experience was significantly different. I was seen by Kaylee Newsome, PA at the Gilbert location and was thoroughly impressed with her bedside manner. She was attentive to my questions and offered sound solutions. Scheduling was not an issue and I was able to get in quick. The online portal was easy to use and I only had to complete one additional form in the office. The medical assistant (I don't recall her name) was also very helpful and did her due diligence and got medications approved and communicated that to me promptly. If there were problems in the past, I believe they may have resolved them at least at this location. read more

I have made several attempts to have questions answered and to ask if they are able to remove some skin lesions. First they texted me and asked that I text back about my concerns. I texted back immediately. After a day with no response I asked if the receievd my information, then they asked for more information and my birthdate which I provided. 2and1/2 days later and that has been it....no further communication or follow up. Too bad you can't do half stars as I really do love the practice, but some items they do fall short on. The positives are the flexible scheduling, very friendly and knowledgeable staff. I have been to a few appointments and have had much success with treatments. However, my provider left which from other reviews seems to be routine. I've been hesitant to try a new person, but after seeing how well my son was taken care of, I've committed to another appointment. Hope all goes well. As for my son, I have been very pleased on his provider, Erin, being attentive and knowledgeable. Has frequently adjusted his medications and thoroughly explained their use which gives me some satisfaction that she is actually well aware of his condition and tuned in to getting it resolved. As for the negatives... For one is the paperwork. If you make an appointment ahead of time, please provide the paperwork ahead of time so we can fill out at our convenience instead of sitting an extra 15 minutes in the lobby. And now with the "new" online system patients are given a dirty iPad that is not sanitized between patients. Pretty disgusting for a health practice! If it's online, send us the link to fill out on our phones or laptops. Another negative is the paper thin walls and the loud staff. You hear personal conversations from other rooms/hall as you wait to see your provider. Please keep that in mind as you visit! So the negatives are minor, and being that you can't award 1/2 a star they have my full support! Impossible to schedule an appointment. This has been going on for months. I tried to be gracious and allow them time to fix their "staffing issues" but months later I still cannot get through to schedule an appointment. You can leave a number for a call back, but the two times someone actually did call back, it was the next day when I was at work and missed the call. They have a texting system also, but when I received a text, "Is now a good time to call?" then responded "yes please," no one called. I don't like leaving negative reviews but really just want to help people avoid the frustration this practice causes. read more

I chose to make an appointment with this practice after researching their website and determined they accept my insurance. They encourage patients to reserve their appointment on the website/patient portal. That is what I did. I was a little frustrated I could not get an appointment for two months but booked the new patient appointment anyway. One week before the appointment I got a phone call from someone I could barely understand but I believe she was telling me I needed to reschedule as that doctor did not accept my insurance. (The website does not differentiate between doctors or what insurance they accept it just says they take my insurance.) This further frustrated me. She left a number which I promptly called back and was on hold for 20 minutes before hanging up. There is not an option -- even the URGENT needs line that will answer promptly. Impossible to schedule an appointment. Their call center hangs up on you and promises to call you back, which will take more than 24 hours. Good luck if you miss the phone call. The staff all know its a problem but they aren't doing anything about it. Care is terrible. Pretty sure they screwed up pathology lab, which also takes forever for turn around time. Was a patient for 2.5 years. They have a couple of sweet providers, but other than that, they are terrible. You can't ever call and be answered. You must leave a message and hope to get a call back the next day. The doctors themselves refuse to consult with you by phone. The assistants are rude and condescending. I had one actually insist she knew more about my medical history than I do since she was looking at my records. I am 53. She has two years of records . In the end they were insisting I needed expensive medical procedures that were unnecessary. Clearly they wanted to bill my insurance. I got a second opinion from skin cancer center of AZ and they were clear that the treatment should,could, and would be done in a much easier, less invasive, and cheaper way. Dr. Mullins and the team at Affiliated Dermatology Gilbert treat my entire family. From a six year old with eczema and molluscum to a 50 year old needing Mohs surgery. The office is clean, the front desk staff kind and quick, and there is great spacing, temperature checks , and cleaning protocols in place to help with COVID-19 precautions. Let me just start by saying I have never left a review on Yelp before. I thought about it occasionally with both good and poor service, but did not take the time to stop and leave a review. However, I feel that I must leave a review for this location. Walking in, the front desk staff seemed very nice and they took my temperature during Covid, as should. It all changed when the nurse practitioner assistant or whoever she was took me back to the room. She seemed like she had better things to do than to help accommodate me as a first time patient. The room was not properly cleaned, and I could see dust sitting on the tray next to me and many of the utensils looked as if they were just used! Some were even still in the open bottle of solution and others looked as if they were covered in dirt and hair. Gross! Does not make me feel good especially during this pandemic. To continue, the nurse practitioner came in and did a quick body scan not looking everywhere and then quickly rushed me out. My appointment was a total of 7 minutes aside from the few minutes to check me in and then to have them figure out how to prescribe me some cream. The main reason I went in was for my psoriasis and that of course, was not talked about aside from her telling me to control my stress and diet without asking for example what my diet was. Poor communication and service. After my main provider left I was bounced between several providers who failed to match the service I previously had. Update: This office asked me to not be a patient anymore which is fine. When asked if I wanted my medical records I said no I didn't need them. They took it upon themselves to send my medical records along with a nasty personal letter to my home. I do not know where this letter or my records are as somebody now has the hard copy that was sent to me without my permission. Other than the physical appearance of this office, this place is a disappointing . They are clear and repetitive with regard to making sure to show up 20 minutes before your scheduled appointment time, which makes absolutely no sense considering they don't even call you back until 20-25 minutes after your scheduled appointment time. The front office staff, although nice, has side conversations in the presence of patients who are waiting past their appointment times, giving the impression that they don't care about the patients. I had to schedule 4 weeks out just to get an appointment, and that's as an established patient. While the nurse practitioner I saw was helpful, there are much more reliable places to go. Every time I call to follow up or schedule an appointment the phones go straight to voicemail. After making an appointment on the website, I arrived to have them tell me they had no record of it. Staff was then unapologetic and condescending about the matter.
