A Breakdown That Turned Into a Wonderful Experience…read more If you're ever traveling through Corona, California, and find yourself in need of an honest, dependable auto repair shop, J's Garage should be at the top of your list. My family and I had spent a wonderful week at the beach and were driving home to Arizona when our van suddenly started overheating. We had already stopped at a gas station to check the fluids, so we knew this was something that needed to be repaired before we attempted the drive home, and since it was a Saturday afternoon, we started searching for a garage that was open. By chance, we chose J's Garage--and we could not have made a better choice. We pulled in around 10:00am and explained our situation to J. Even though he and his team already had a bay full of cars to work on, they immediately pulled our heavily loaded van into the shop and checked it out. They quickly discovered that the problem was the thermostat, gave us a very reasonable estimate, and told us they expected to have it finished by 1:30. We were thrilled, but honestly, had been preparing ourselves for the possibility that we might have to find a couple of hotel rooms for the weekend because most shops are closed on Sunday. There were five of us, including my 82-year-old mom, and we were all standing outside in the heat. J himself came out, brought extra chairs into the air-conditioned waiting room, and told us to make ourselves comfortable. There was a movie on for us to watch, and he even gave us recommendations for some great Mexican restaurants in the area. We were planning to take him up on that recommendation and grab lunch around noon--but we never got the chance! Jay and his team worked incredibly quickly. Our van was repaired, and we were back on the road by 11:30 am--only about an hour and a half after arriving! J and his lovely wife were incredibly kind and welcoming throughout the entire experience. The repair cost was extremely reasonable, the service was fast and professional, and they treated us like people rather than just another repair order. And, as an added bonus, we got to watch "Back to the Future" while we waited! A vehicle breakdown on a road trip--especially with a fully loaded van, five people, an elderly family member, and a long drive still ahead--could have turned into a complete nightmare. After applying daily pressure on them on a continuous basis , I finally received my car in April, however, the shop still owes me $583 for one of the car rentals they told me to purchase. I kept calling to retrieve the money but they didn't keep their word and denied paying me back. I could have easily placed a lien on the business for $583 with all the proof to retrieve my money but you know my good heart didn't follow through. Instead, writing this review will sting bigger and is the least I can do for the people. Im an easy going guy but after going through this extensive car repair, we decided to pull away from doing any future business for the wrong doing and unprofessionalism of their actions. That's why this review is so disappointing to write. On April 15th, I had a very negative experience with a phlebotomist named Michelle. From the moment I sat down, she was cold and dismissive--no greeting, no basic courtesy. Her tone throughout the appointment felt rude and unnecessarily aggressive. Instead of communicating calmly, she gave abrupt commands like "scoot up... no, more," without any professionalism or kindness. The actual blood draw was worse. On the first attempt, she missed my vein and tried to redirect the needle twice. During the second redirection, I felt a sharp pain and said "ouch," to which she responded by rolling her eyes before removing the needle. I ended up apologizing--despite being the one in pain--because of how uncomfortable the interaction felt. She never apologized. She then attempted the draw on my other arm, applying the tourniquet far too tightly and choosing the basilic vein. As soon as she accessed the vein, it began to blow. Despite this, she continued the draw and collected four tubes while I started losing sensation in my arm and hand. For context, I am a phlebotomist with 10 years of experience, so I am very familiar with proper technique and patient safety. I regret not advocating for myself in that moment, because the situation was not handled appropriately. Unsurprisingly, I developed a hematoma almost immediately in a very sensitive area. She provided minimal bandaging--it didn't even stay on--and gave no aftercare instructions. I had to manage everything myself at home, including icing and proper care. I have already reported this experience directly to Quest Diagnostics through the appropriate channels. I was told that a supervisor would address the situation and that this employee would be shadowed for retraining. While I appreciate that this is being handled internally, I am sharing this publicly so others are aware and can make informed decisions--personally, I would recommend avoiding this phlebotomist at all costs, if possible.
