I highly recommend AE Construction. Their proposal was competitive, and I liked that they were local and responsive to my requests. I want to add that I really appreciated when they first came over to discuss the project, it was one of Alejandra's guys that suggested a change that made a huge difference because they spent the time to understand what I was trying to do and asked a lot of questions. From start to completion, the employees/subcontractors they used were all professional, and on the rare occasion I had a change or improvement suggestion, they did it without complaining or arguing with me or talking down to me. I mention this because I have hired other people for simple jobs, and I did not like when they talked down to me for asking a basic question. The point person in charge, Alejandra, always answered my text messages quickly and provided suggestions and answers to my questions. She also kept me informed of the schedule as it changed to accommodate the rainy season. This was a huge plus for me because this was my first large project, and it took place at my primary residence. The work turned out beautiful and it was a pleasure working with her team. Additional info for those planning a construction project I wish that the engineering/architect/design firm I hired, who I do not recommend, would have made the effort to ask more questions about my project. If they were more vested in participating in what I needed, I could have made additional changes that would have made the ADU so much better. Unfortunately, once the permits and construction started, it would have cost too much to start over. When hiring a design firm, make sure they have done ADUs because it is a small project in comparison to building a huge house, and my assumption is that they either didn't care because it was small, or they really did not have experience in drawing ADUs. Especially if this is your first construction project, there are so many things one may not even know about, so it is important to find someone who takes interest in what you want to accomplish. If I could give them 10 stars I would. It's very difficult to find a contractor that shows up on time and delivers what they promise. These guys do all of that plus they do great work. I hired Alejandra to help finish a paver job that another contractor abandoned. She had it finished in one day! Then she gave me estimates for 4 different jobs within a few days, scheduled and completed a concrete pour for me and had the paver guys come back out to add more pavers. I suspect Alejandra is the one keeping the boat afloat. She managed all of my jobs and kept me in the loop the whole time. I definitely recommend them! We recently had Aesthetic elements do some work on our house and were very happy with the work. The quote was reasonable and came quickly. They replaced all of our doors and framed out several new ones, filled in some pass throughs, finished our kitchen cabinets, and tiled and installed a mantel on our fireplace. They also corrected some of the errors my last contractor made. I'm a perfectionist and and an outspoken one at that! They accommodated all my requests, big or small, quickly fixed anything I wasn't perfectly happy with, and were able to meet my high standards. They did a beautiful job spraying our doors-- not a single weird speck or drip on them. Alejandra is their office manager and was extremely responsive and organized. We enjoyed our experience with Aesthetic Elements Construction (AE) very much. We performed a small to medium-sized remodel of our kitchen and some other areas where new walls were built, walls were removed, countertops installed, and other small items. We are very happy with how the work turned out and it was a breeze working with AE. We would definitely recommend using them and plan to use them for future projects. Pricing: We interviewed 5 contractors for our project and they were in the middle of the pack as it goes in terms of pricing. We were more than OK to pay the additional cost from the low bid because they were incredibly professional, provided the most detailed and accurate proposal out of ALL of the companies we interviewed and we liked their portfolio the best. Responsiveness: You always hear of horror stories with contractors being difficult to schedule, pushing start dates, not showing up for work or disappearing as the project ends, we had none of these issues with AE. They were able to start our project early, showed up every single day until the project was complete, finished the project 2 days earlier than projected (would have been 5 days if the Oakland inspectors made it out faster) and communicated if they were going to be late (which only occurred once due to an employees family emergency). Work Quality: We enjoyed their work quality and are very happy with the results.
