I found his design to be original, functional and attractive. The work went along routinely with most of the work handled by in-house crews. I went with a second project with Ardo to redo my basement floor and remove mold. I stayed with Ardo principally due to the responsiveness and integrity shown by the owner Paul Arnold. The basement job was primarily done by outside contractors. Paul's oversight was first rate. My only criticism, not enough to dissuade, is the bidding generally is only to one sub. When I made that initial phone call, I described EXACTLY what I wanted done in my home (install a light fixture in the ceiling of three bedrooms, none of which had any existing such fixture previously installed). The person I spoke with asked me additional questions for clarification (did I have an attic {yes} and was there a switch in each room that operated an outlet somewhere in the room {yes}). I was told that if my answer to those questions had been a "no", then they wouldn't be able to do the work because it would require a licensed electrician, which they were not, but since I said yes they would be able to just "fishline" down the wire and get it done. The day before my appointment I was called to confirm the job date and time, which I did. The next morning, the guy showed up 25 min late and apologized saying that he had gone to a different job site that he was on the schedule to do, only to arrive there and find another employee already there who informed him that the jobs had been switched around (but no one had told him apparently). So I was a little bit put off but no biggie. I showed the guy the bedrooms and the lights I wanted installed and the attic, but suddenly he says "I'm not equipped to do this job, let me make a phone call to the boss." He steps out, comes back in a few min later, and tells me that not only can HE not do the job, but NOBODY in the company is licensed to do that job. I was SO mad because I had described the job in detail over the phone and they should have told me then that this was not something they could do. I had taken the day off of work for nothing! So I asked for his boss's phone number, and called him. That, my Yelp friends, is when this went even further down hill (and caused me to give them a one star rating instead of a two).... The boss/owner, Mike, did say "I'm sorry". I'll state that upfront, yes, he did. But his tone from the get-go with me was RUDE, AGGRESSIVE, and with a VERY loud tone....at one point I even held the phone away from my ear because it was so loud and I stated to the employee (standing in front of me): Do you hear how he is speaking to me?!?! Mike said that they could not do the work because it was a liability issue, if my house burned down they would be liable because they are NOT electricians...he asked me to be sure that I included that in my Yelp review when I mentioned to him that I would be sure to up this company here, so there it is. Yes, I understand they cannot do the work for liability reasons, but my problem here is that they even scheduled the job in the first place rather than telling me this would not be possible. Mike said "human errors happen all the time" (regarding why someone made the appt), and while this is true, it was his beyond unprofessional attitude with me on the phone that totally made this experience even worse. I told him he should review the records to see who took my original call so he can be sure they do not repeat the same mistake again, and he said they keep thorough records and he will do that (we'll see). To give a fair review, Mike did try to stress that I had a 4-hr voucher that they were very willing to honor if I had any other projects to be done around the home, but while I do have a project list a mile long (welcome to home ownership and buying your first home), they were all projects I felt I could tackle on my own or with my dad's help (who happens to be visiting this week) so I didn't feel like I should pay for work that I could do for free on my own anyway. I decided to send the employee away and get my money back from Living Social. So in the end, I cannot speak for the quality of any of the work that they do, because none was performed in my home. But I can absolutely say that if you hire this company and everything doesn't go smoothly, be prepared for nasty dealings with an owner who needs to take a class or two on customer service.

My husband and I want to share with the neighborhood, our experience with a contractor that…read morefrequently solicits work in Stevenson. In fact, when we first hired him, it was from a neighbor referral. Unfortunately, we have not had the same positive experience and, instead, would like to share a warning. Grab a glass of wine, it's a long one.  We hired Badger Contracting to replace a roof on our 1958 Gordon Sugar home in 2018. It was a warranty claim and the owner, Barry Flacks, was initially friendly and responsive, and clearly understood the insurance game. The crew he hired, however, turned out to be unfamiliar with flat roof construction and, on first attempt, failed to retain the MCM aesthetic. Despite a street of identical houses they could have used as a reference, it was starting to look like an 90's builder special (and with a moat of rusted nails yeeted into the grass). Throughout the project, they were tearing out and re-installing elements. By the time the roof replacement was "complete," there were half a dozen patches already in place on our brand-new roof. We were not impressed, but he was paid in full--as it was an insurance claim, there wasn't much we could do.  We called Barry back a few months later when the ceiling in the living room started leaking. And then a few more months later for the same. Then they came back when there were mushrooms growing in the master bedroom closet. Another time, they had to come back to switch a downspout that was mistakenly installed upside-down and catching debris. This was around the time he told us that he never used that crew again. Badger returned frequently--well beyond our 5-year labor warranty which we asked to be extended on good faith. It was clear his profit margin on our roof was shrinking, and it showed in the way we were treated. None of these return trips were prompt, communicative, or friendly. We would come home to men on the roof without even a return phone call, and then no update on work performed. Over and over again.  We were never out to ruin anyone's livelihood. We know Barry has a working relationship in the community and we've wanted to believe that our experience was a one-off due to a poor crew and, other than not passing on Badger's contact info, we kept our experience to ourselves. Our most recent experience with Barry, however, has convinced us that we need to share the continuation of this story. Our 8yo roof failed inspection when we went to sell. Badger came out and performed a repair on soft spots identified by his crew (but we discovered not everything on the inspection report). Then Barry lied to us about the work performed when he insisted that the roof wasn't regraded and that the soft spots were caused by a clogged drain, "maybe a mouse."  But we were on the roof with the roofer. We spoke with him about the work and the crew leader pointed out the low spot, the pooling, and acknowledged it being the cause of the rot--not the drain, which was adjacent. We took a dozen photos as he re-sloped that area. The roof in that area wasn't sloped correctly to begin with. Second and third inspections were performed by certified roofing contractors. They both identified the same additional repairs that needed to be made and submitted their own quotes for repairs. Understandably, after Badger failed to catch (or repair) what their peers had noted, our buyers did not want Badger to return. When we presented those two estimates to Barry and asked that he cover the cost of the lower estimate, he delayed correspondence through the weeks leading up to settlement--not responding until well after we closed. We covered the expenses of the repairs at closing because an 8yo roof should be sound and it was the right thing to do. Again, we asked for reimbursement. Five weeks later, Barry reached out to say that he will not be reimbursing us because 1) he doesn't agree with the three inspections noting the same areas of concern; 2) he feels his crew should have been permitted additional opportunities to address repairs; and 3) it was on us as the seller to negotiate the cost of his failing roof into our sale price. ​​​​​​​So here we are. Dropping reviews across the internet and hoping to avoid small claims court, but certainly not opposed to traveling down that road.

It's an old house, with a tight space, and an endless amount of obstacles to overcome in order to pull it off. We interviewed about 6 contractors and collected a number of quotes. A few contractors were not up to the task, while a few came back with either extraordinarily high or absurdly low quotes- and all of them had wonky solutions that seemed impractical. Then came Dominic. Dominic came in with a creative mind. His experience and expertise allowed him to problem solve and come up with a fantastic solution that met all of our needs, and more wants that we could've hoped for. Even more, his quote made sense. He wasn't the cheapest, or the most expensive, but he was fair. Due to a medical issue, there was a massive delay on our end getting started, yet Dominic remained flexible. Once we were finally underway, I was floored at how quickly he and his team worked. They showed up every day, on time, and worked precisely and efficiently. We were dreading having people in our home for several weeks, but his team was lovely to have around! They were polite, kind, helpful, and most importantly, skilled. I was working on several side projects (painting, refinishing cabinets, etc) and they always jumped in to help if they saw me struggling to carry something or lift something heavy. Every day they left the space cleaner than they found it. Not only are they skilled, it is clear they have an incredible work ethic and are just kind people. During the project, we wanted to change the scope a few times by adding in some flooring and a few other things that shifted the project a bit. Once again, Dominic remained flexible. He was there to offer advice- both in helping us stay within budget, while not compromising quality. And despite expanding the scope mid-project, he and his team only needed a few additional days to complete those requests. I've never hired a contractor for this scale of project before and I've heard all of the nightmares about poor quality work, lack of communication, surprise project fees, and delays in completion. We experience none of that with Top Notch Contractors. Dominic and his team delivered everything they promised and more. There were no billing surprises at the end of the project and even though we were satisfied with everything, he and his team were still touching up little things as they were walking out of the door. If you're looking for the Goldilocks of contractors- one who is skilled, fairly priced, and delivers on their promises, you can't go wrong with Dominic at Top Notch Contractors. My father now has a safe & beautiful space and we could not be more grateful.

We contacted 4 remodeling companies before choosing Old Bay Remodeling, After my wife's almost an…read moreyearlong research to find materials and selections to complete the kitchen, we decided to get bids from Angie's list. Old Bay came in highly recommended with a 4.7 star rating. We got other bids from contractors 4.5 stars and above. We had a contractor who showed up on TV who bid the job at 4 times the price of Old Bay and we had contractors who my wife called 'Chuck in the truck' contractors who bid my kitchen at 30% cheaper than Old Bay. The big name contractor came with his pamphlet, tried to push his branded materials on us - "You can only choose backsplash from this pamphlet" they said. We had to wait 10 weeks to get started they said. They will give us warranties on materials for 10 years, but we have to pay for labor, would something go wrong. The estimate was a 10 pages long with 9 pages of their marketing bullshit and one page of the actual estimate. Also wanted me to pay for design before they even gave me any drawings - not even rough drawings with the estimate. The Chick in the truck - unlicensed guy with his helper in a truck, said he can start tomorrow. We can purchase any materials and he will put it in. He gave us a labor only bid literally handwritten on a notepad piece of paper. I was pretty sure after the work is complete, I would never see him again. Then comes Old Bay Remodeling and Bill Keeling. Licenses and Insurance checked out. Reasonable 5 weeks delays to start the job. Detailed drawings and sketches with a 3d rendering of how things would look at the end. The process took about 5 days with some edits. But we were able to sign a well written contract, 3 pages long. But no marketing bullshit or content. 3 pages of how the work will be done, what is included, not included and what ifs. We went with them mainly because of Bill the sales guys and Sara the designer. The construction started and there were some hiccups, but mostly all right. The job was completed with a 2 day delay - I'll give them a pass on that. Trash was left outside for couple days, and I had to call the office to get it removed. But the actual kitchen looks great!

Ended up Really Beautiful and surprisingly fast, but I got stressed all along the way - Not really…read moreOld Bay Remodeling's fault, but I get stressed out for silly things and feels much better when things are completed. 1. Materials!!! - After the Job was sold, I was contacted by the office saying they do it a bit differently from other contractors. They purchase all materials up front. As a customer, you get the option to have it delivered on your yard or into their warehouse. The idea was this way, they do not have to stop for buying materials. I did a little research and quickly understood the materials and shipments were delayed and is causing a lot of disruption in the construction industry. Well - it is a good idea to have everything before we start work. I was right and wrong. Old Bay moved in record pace to get a 550 sqft addition completed in 7 weeks. But I lot my 1/2 acre backyard to materials - lumber, nails, siding, roofing materials for 2 months. The lawn was damaged from materials being on the grass for too long. Old Bay agreed to come back and reseed the lawn, so I'll give it a pass on that. There were literally 150 bags of concrete lying outside in 2 storms and I lost my sleep. Ended up that it was covered and protected properly. But I got so stressed out! If anyone is reading this, ask them to store materials in their warehouse and bring it when required. 2. Installers - Old bay had the same crew do the job from start to finish. They only had electric, ac and plumbing guys do their separate jobs. Apart from that - starting at demo, digging, pavers, carpentry, roof, windows, even painting done by the same 4 guys. I don't know how they did it, but they pulled it off. In my line of work, I do the same thing and become an expert at it. I was stressed out again and I hired a third party home inspector to make sure everything was done correctly. Very surprised the inspector also mentioned this is very unusual, but the job quality was up highly recommended. Howard County inspector was also surprised by the pace of things. He has inspected other work from Old Bay and said he has seen them drop off tons of materials in the yard before. 3. Rough Start and Payments - Not sure if this is a problem to anyone else, but we had to pay for all out materials up front. Old Bay promptly delivered the materials to our house and it came from a bunch of vendors. But paying all materials up front on a huge project like this runs into tens of thousands of dollars. Old Bay also sent many people to look at the job - there was an engineer, multiple plumbers, electricians etc. I guess they got many bids from their sub contractors. But I was not a big fan of 10 people visiting my house during the pandemic - They all had masks etc, but just too many people in the house. I called the office about this and I was told they do all the work in the beginning and when they get going, they will move fast. Another reason for me to stress out in the beginning, but was happy at the end. 4. Communication - It was very hard to reach the office and the project manager. Maybe I ask too many questions - I don't know. But when the job started, I would receive 2 calls every week from the office. Would casually check in, give me a run down of what is going to happen next week, ask if I had any questions etc. That was very helpful. It would be very nice to get these calls before the job starts. I am submitting this review so that the people can understand what is good and bad about this contractor.

We truly appreciated the patience and ease of the initial design phase. The bathroom layout was challenging due to the space available. Kyle and Hannah offered multiple designs, met our questions and requests with a positive attitude and provided excellent suggestions. They worked with us until we got it just right. After the designs were set, the fun part of selecting materials began. What felt overwhelming was made easy and fun with the designer assigned to our project. Hannah was an absolute pleasure to work with. She has an excellent eye for color and space. The end result is a cohesive design that is pulled together with the design elements we chose. One word of advice for both Cornerstone and future customers, know your appliance selections before ordering cabinets. We weren't aware of the level of importance of this step. You would think that refrigerators have standard sizes but they don't. It's more general. Understanding what a 36" range looks like compared to a 48" range will make a big difference knowing what is then available for counter space and cabinet options. Design changes after cabinets are ordered are nearly impossible. For us, all appliances were available for delivery in about 3 weeks with the exception of the range, which wasn't available for 3 months. The kitchen was finished almost a month before the range arrived. Understanding when to place the order is helpful. Cornerstone recommends a local appliance company that is reputable and easy to work with. It took a couple of weeks to work through all of the options and make our choices. We started a little too late and experienced some frustration because of that. What impressed us most was the quality workmanship, professionalism and respect for our home shown by every Cornerstone employee and also every sub contractor provided for the project. We've had other smaller projects in our home and can't say the same. It's obvious that Cornerstone has high standards and expectations for anyone they send to their customer's homes. The end result for the bathroom, first floor flooring and kitchen is absolutely spectacular. Look at their instagram and you will see. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this company to family and friends and already have.
