Do not hire them. We hired FiveStar "Quality" Remodeling to remodel our bathroom in 2020. At first, we were happy with the work - however, a mere two years after the work was completed, the tiles in our shower (in two different locations) are falling off the wall. Clearly an issue with either/both the workmanship and/or materials used. This isn't typical. When I reached out to 5star to help us correct the issue, they claim that while they "stand by their work" they have a mere 1 year warranty on their workmanship and materials. The customer service rep was also very rude and claimed that I "bullied" them by asking them to stand by their work at AT LEAST come look at the problem, as it is clearly not a user-created issue. I hate to say, DO NOT HIRE THESE FOLKS. They don't stand by their work, and your expensive remodel project will fall apart shortly after the 1-year warranty is up. Also the contractor told me that they stand by their work for a lifetime, but this is clearly just a marketing/sales tactic and they do not actually do this. read more

Job: Bathroom Model (Floor, walls, plumbing, tub, tile, electric, etc) You ever write a review that is meant to be complimentary, but you focus on the one negative and it reads like a negative review later? This is my second attempt to make this review reflect the work performed. Demolition: Excellent. The house could not have been kept cleaner. They lined the house with tarp every single day. I was shocked by it. They took great care and respected our house. Could not ask for more! Electric: Awesome. They installed a quiet exhaust fan that vents out the house through the attic. Pleasantly surprised by this. Did not expect it turn out this good. Tiling: Excellent. Cannot praise the marble tile install work enough. Maurice did a shower box and added tile pencil around the box. The glass accent at eye level going through the box was perfect. He had us return one kind of glass accent tile and pick up another because of difficulty installing. Glad he was straight forward with us. It turned out great. Looks like showroom quality tile work. Plumbing: Excellent (as far as I can see). The shower and tub operate smoothly. The bathtub he provided (Koehler) was first rate. I was happy to see that, as the tub model was not specified in the contract. They did scratch the tub, which obviously is concerning. Maurice was at least up front and forthright about it. He had someone attempt to cover the scratch. It is still a little noticeable, but not a huge deal. Fixtures: Done as expected. Wish the vanity sink hit the wall. There is a small gap due to the marble skirting. Not sure if we will be able to find a solution. Looked online and this is a common problem. Wish he gave us the heads up in advance. Communication: Excellent. Maurice was in contact with us throughout the whole job and texted us pictures. Dry Wall: There was a disconnect on this. Originally we thought he was going all the way down to the studs. OK, not a problem, but there were noticeable deficiencies. He went half way on the dry wall to save on our budget which caused some problems. Did not come out as smooth and polished as we would have liked. This may be fixed in the future. I hope I am not out there on the weekend fixing the problems. Cost and Change orders: 5 star quality is a reasonable priced contractor in a sea of overpriced show room sales men. The price was excellent. The change orders and adjusted price increases were reasonable and not inflated after they got the job. Maurice did a great job of keeping the project on budget. Good luck trying to find a better priced contractor that is certified, licensed and insured. Time line: Only took 7 days. Kept on schedule. Added work: Maurice was cool and had his folks touch up some other areas of the house like sanding down and painting some water damage on a ceiling in our living room while they were out there for no charge. He also did the tile diagonal at no additional labor charge. These kinds of things really makes a difference in customer service. Overall: We are happy with our bathroom and would hire Maurice again (after comparing multiple bids). After looking at our bathroom every day we are a little disappointed in the walls (hence the 4 stars). But the overall job was good and Maurice was a pleasure to do business with. It was meant to be for us to find Maurice's Five Star Quality Remodeling on Yelp. My husband and I recently purchased our first home and we knew right away that we wanted to redo our wooden floors and the floor in the basement. We were nervous as this is our first home and we are vastly unfamiliar with the world of remodeling. We also had a very, very tight deadline as we only had a few weeks to get the floors done and move out of the place we were in and move into our new home. Here's our scenario: we learn that our daughter, who is away at college, is 5 months pregnant, with a baby arriving right after the holidays. We spring into high gear trying to locate a contractor who can quickly take our moldy mess of a basement and turn it into a studio apartment for the new family. We met with 3 contractors, Maurice at Five Star gave us the most itemized written quote. Another contractor gave a verbal quote that was much less, but when we started to pin him down on details, he hadn't included dozens of essential items. Last week I was browsing craigs list for home improvement work, specifically my bathroom which looked like an abortion, I had tiles falling off the wall, holes in the floor and it was the original 1950 small black and white tiles that remind you of a damp subway bathroom from 1955 or maybe 56. Anyway I needed it to go. Enter Five Star Quality Remodeling,... it jumped out at me like a beacon of hope in a sea of over priced home improvement contractors. I like the website and examples of their work. They were willing to gut and tile my bathroom, new sub-floor new wall (6x6 ft it's really small) minus the tub/shower for 1,995.00 or 1,700 if I buy the tile and grout myself. I opted for the 1,700 deal. After a few emails a brief conversation with Maurice Honeyblue ( the owner and head contractor) I agreed to meet at ProSource flooring store he does business with and discuss what I needed for my project. At first they were speaking my language a few hundred bucks or so then it was 550 or so. I was thinking maybe I can do this cheaper at the good ole home depot. When Gene from Prosource called me the following day with a quote pushing 700 bucks I wasn't feeling it at all. So I met Maurice at Prosource that Saturday and said that the 700 bucks wasn't going to happen and saw some stuff at the home depot I liked for a lot less. Maurice politely excused us from ProSource and said whatever I wanted was best. No pressure to buy from them , He even went to the Home depot with me to pick some stuff out that would work. Great guy for doing that. I can't say anything bad about Prosource they have great customer service, Gene was very helpful, the products are very nice it just wasn't for me. It took Maurice and his helper Friday, Saturday and half of Sunday to complete the job. They were clean, courteous and I just felt comfortable with them and the work they were doing.The fit and finish of the tile was very nice. Everything from the estimate to the finished work was absolutely thorough and detailed. Maurice was very responsive to any questions I had and was willing to do change orders when I remembered a task that I had forgotten to initially request. 5 Star repainted the entire first and second floors of my townhouse, including closets, doors, trim, banister, and ceilings. There is a reason this business is called Five Star Remodeling and the reason they have five star reviews! Maurice and his crew removed a warped wooden backdoor of an unusual size and replaced it with a steel door. They reframed the doorway to keep drafts and water out. They removed and carried off an old rusty chain link fence (which was covered in heavy grapevines) and built a sturdy 6 ft. tall wooden fence. They demolished the crumbling concrete stairs and built a lovely wooden stairway. When you call, Maurice answers. He is always available while being friendly and professional. All of this work was completed in less than 48 hours even though the contract guaranteed 7-10 day turnaround. Extras: They fixed the pipe from the sump pump so it was rerouted out of the yard and sanded the gate so it would not be damaged by water. So many little details were included like handing all rough edges, demolished an ugly slab of concrete that was randomly situated in the yard. The clean-up was outstanding. They even remove weeds and debris from my neighbor's side of the fence. I was not charged for any of these services. The price was very fair and more competitive than Abbey Fence (who did not offer services to replace our stairs or deck). I could NOT be happier. Very pleased by the work done by Five Star. The job was to replace tile on a bathroom floor that had buckled. Maurice surveyed the current condition of the floor and removed several of the tiles to inspect the grout beneath them. He provided a choice of solutions and the risks involved with each choice. He took into consideration my concerns with other aspects of the bathroom that may be affected by the work to be done. Maurice and his crew were professional and courteous. We recently contracted Five Star Quality Remodeling to completely remodel a small guest bathroom. Maurice's motto is "on time and on budget" and to his credit, that is definitely the case. However, my wife and I found the Five Star Quality to be sacrificed in order to be on time and on budget. We selected Five Star Quality Remodeling after getting several quotes on the job. Maurice's quote was the most reasonable with the shortest timeline, still allowing for custom installation on tile work. He was friendly and enthusiastic, polite and respectful, which was very nice. As we wanted a more custom bathroom, we provided much of the materials ourselves: sink, toilet, shower components, and all tile--floor, including base mold, subway field tile, glass accent tile, and bullnose. We ran into a couple of problems with the custom installation, as well as the general work, but the custom tile work was the biggest problem. The field tile that was installed included a number of pieces that were chipped and the accent tile was installed backward. The latter caused a great deal of unpleasantness when my wife pointed this mistake out to him. Rather than admitting that he was unfamiliar with the tile that we had provided and just fixing the mistake, he told us that this was our fault because we didn't provide him with installation instructions. Had we known that he needed instructions, we would have provided them. (but how were we to know?) After some discussion, Maurice's conceded to reinstall the tile..but at a $550 fee! We were pretty shocked. I can only compare it to the following: If the toilet were installed backwards, would we be charged to fix it? Maurice finally agreed to reinstall the tile for free after many discussions. Despite our having provided instructions and a telephone number to someone experieced with this kind of tile, he still did not follow the directions. Luckily, I was home to catch a mistake he was making with the installation (I had read the instructions) and was able to correct him. In the end, the accent tile was acceptable at best; The corners are sloppy, and some of the badly misshapen pieces were not addressed. (he agreed to replace only the three accent tiles; any more than that and he said that I would be charged.) In the end, the overall job was "good enough." He remedied the chipped field tiles by trying to pour a poxy over the chip to repair to the tile. The chip is still very visible and the preferred methold would have been to just replace that faluly tile. The sink was installed at an angle, making it unlevel. When we followed-up with Maurice about this, he attributed it to walls not being perfectly straight. Instead of dealing with Maurice, I was able to level the sink with a friend by following the directions, using a level and reinstalling it.) When I am paying a contractor to do a job, I do not want to have to redo a project myself. The paint job was patchy and full of divots. Maurice did agree to bring the painter back on the last day, but I had to stand over the painters shoulder and point out all the flaws. After a hitting a few of the most obvious spots, i was told "ok, 2 more." This should have been Maurice's job to make the paint job look as good as possible. The bottom line: with Maurice at Five Star Quality Remodeling, your project will be on time and on budget, but do not expect a perfect job with "five star quality." I would not recommend him if you expect perfection. His reasonalbe quotes and timefames, coupled with his friendly personality and respectfulness to the homeowners far exceed the quality of the work. I would recommend some of his subcontractors: The tub was reglazed by a guy from Maryland Tub and Tile. They did a great job. The plumbing was done by a guy from 410plumber. Maurice is fair and honest, and will tell you all the important details, even if you don't know what he is talking about (from a woman's POV, lol) His staff are hard workers, and clean up everything when the work is done. I felt like I was on DIY network afterwards, my bathroom was beautiful, and with lots of new elements that I did even expect. In the end I felt Maurice was a great contractor, but now a friend, he'll be seeing me again.
