(Follow up review). What started off as a poor experience with Kasselman turned out great. The problem was in the communication, or the timing of communication between myself and Kasselman electric. Most people today have cell phones with spam blockers. If I get a call from a number not programmed into my phone it goes directly to voicemail. Phone calls get "lost" or unanswered if no message is left. Enough with that...Kasselman was able to arrange for a solar tech from another solar company to replace a couple of micro inverters that my installer (Albany Solar Solutions) refused to take care of...regardless of contract. (News flash...DON'T EVER use Albany Solar Solutions for Solar...EVER!). Had I known, I would have hired Kasselman from the start. Even though Kasselman would not touch my system due to "liability issues", the manager at Kasselman, Jim, DID get me hooked up with a super nice guy from Clemens Electric named Ray. One thing our inspector called out was the quality of the roof. It was excellent. Not only that, but he commended the roofers on the quality of its construction. I tucked this memory away for about twelve years, until the day a tree fell on our house and tore a hole through our perfectly good roof. Thankfully, we were insured. In all the chaos of trying to repair the damage to the car, remove the tree, shore up the hole, and replace the garage door, there was on thing that I was sure about: We would hire Z. Ipek & Sons to replace the roof. After all, they were the contractors who wowed our inspector over a decade ago. When Omer came over to give me the estimate, he remembered putting the roof on our house. Except for the fallen tree, it was holding up very well. He was able to swing by before the insurance adjuster visited, which helped to provide me with some critical information for the adjuster. The only hard part was that we were in a race against time. Z. Ipek had a full work load, and Omer would soon be leaving for a long deserved vacation to attend a family wedding. And to make matters more complicated, our house was on the market at the time, plus we were actively in the process of moving out, with movers, a truck, and everything. Amazingly, Omer and his crew made it happen! I may have panicked a little bit when I saw the crew on the roof earlier than expected on moving day. But they had planned for the window when the moving truck needed to be in the driveway. I cannot say how Z. Ipek compares to other roofers on quality or cost. But the actual cost wasn't a penny higher than the original estimate. And they were able to execute all the work within the budget of the insurance claim. I wish I could leave a better review. We had a totally different company quote us for work on our…read morechimney and we were going to go with them, but they weren't responding to us. We needed the work done before the winter. The chimney needed to be rebuilt with flashing, a cap, birdcage, etc from the roof up and we also needed flashing put in. George came over and gave us a quote for half of the work we needed done, saying the rest wasn't necessary and they could do it that same week. I wasn't totally sure bc I am a new homeowner, but he claimed he'd been "doing this for 30 years and knew what he was doing" so who was I to say otherwise. The day came and they did all the work like they said. From looking at it from the ground, it looked nice. We were happy... until we tried to turn on the heat. Thinking our chimney was all good based on what George said, we were shocked when we hired an HVAC guy only for him to tell us our furnace was fine, but our chimney was full of debris and unsafe to use. He pulled out the pipe for us, so I went ahead and cleaned it out myself. The debris was over 8ft high and had broken bricks, not just soot and dust. I called and texted George to come finish the job, but he never responded. Thankfully, our heat worked after I cleaned it out, but we were nervous about the state of the chimney. Finally, the original chimney guys (from the other company) were able to come over and put in a liner, new pipes, etc. They said the job that Bill Miles Masonry did was messy. Even my former landlord said they have a bad reputation when I talked to him about it. The chimney specialists who finished the work said that we likely had carbon monoxide leaking through the chimney into the house based on how bad it was. I wish we had gone with them for the entire project because we ended up losing approximately $1200 by having Bill Miles Masonry come to not do the full amount of work we needed. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. 2 stars because they did fix the top of the chimney, at the very least.
