TLDR: Do not use AE Pets. They leveraged my cat to get $1100. I recently relocated to London from New York with my cat. The company I hired to assist with his travel, AE Pets International, concealed a 30% price increase for more than a month and instead leveraged my cat for the money, after both he and I were checked into our international flight. Like many of you here, I love my cat and wanted to make sure that his travel went as smoothly as possible. I was especially concerned because pets are unable to travel into the UK in-cabin, so my cat had to go in cargo. To do this, I enlisted the help of supposed experts, AE Pets. Quite frankly, their expensive service (they initially quoted $3500, but ended up charging me $4600) was a complete and total disappointment. After months of communication, and hours after they had told me my cat had been checked in for his flight, they called me to tell me that BA had "unexpectedly" raised their shipping prices and that they needed an additional $1100 immediately. Their claim that this was unexpected is a lie. In after-the-fact emails, they revealed that they were aware of the increase more than a month before our travel date. They even pointed me to a New York Times article and a BBC article that clearly showed that this was public information. In these articles, other, more reputable, pet travel companies are quoted as having had to have "difficult conversations" about the price increase with their clients. AE Pets also shared an internal chat, from more than a month before my travel date, in which they communicated this increase to their own staff, asking them for help pressuring BA to roll back the increase. Despite AE Pets clearly knowing well in advance that BA had changed its prices, AE Pets opted against notifying me and (I assume) their other clients about this fee increase. I find their decision to hide the fact that their service would be roughly 30% more expensive, information they had for over a month, until they had my cat and I was at the airport for my international flight, disgusting. In our emails, the firm's head explained that, in the past, they have had trouble getting money from clients after their pets had been returned to their owners. His explanation makes it clear that they leveraged my cat to ensure they got their money. How would you feel if someone demanded an additional $1100 while they had your pet? I felt extorted and I expect you would feel the same. Even now, AE Pets has not explained why they chose not to inform me in advance of the price change. They have also failed to confirm that they have reached out to their other clients and to name a single concrete step they have taken to avoid these situations in the future. Instead, they have blamed BA, told me how they personally felt guilty, and given vague assurances that a "Protocol has been created for BA." Given the lack of specifics and their dishonest business tactics, I find this hard to believe. There were other red flags that should have caused me to question using them earlier in the process. I regret not listening to my gut and instead trusting my cat to these people: - They sent me an email canceling a scheduled meeting. However, their system continued to send confirmation emails up to an hour beforehand and never indicated that the meeting was canceled. - Their preferred vet was unavailable. They asked me to call around to vets using the USDA list. When I provided them with a list of options, they picked one they had used before. Given that, I have no idea why they wouldn't have just recommended this as a backup and instead asked me to repeat the legwork they had already done. I would never trust these people with my pet again and truly regret employing them. I hope you do not make the same mistake. read more

Oliver, the Maltese, has to go through process that has been regulated by the Dubai government to get into the country. I reached out to AE Pets Int'l after hours of tireless research trying to figure out how to get my cat from Los Angeles to London in my family's relocation there. Not sure if you're aware, but the UK doesn't allow animals to fly in-cabin into the country on international flights. So, I'd originally planned to fly with her in-cabin / under the seat from LA to Paris, and then hire a private van to drive my family and me - including the cat - through the chunnel to London. My cat is 16 years old so I wanted to avoid stressing her out by sending her as cargo if at all possible. Then entry from France got greatly restricted due to covid which screwed up my plans. As a last ditch effort, and with less than a month until we moved, I had to turn to sending her with a shipper. I went to my airline's site which directed me to certified companies whom handle the pet shipping since I guess you can't just send your pet on your own flight per the airline anymore. Ugh. Another obstacle. I looked up a couple of the companies but settled on AE Pets Int'l after reading about them right here on Yelp! And let me tell you - they absolutely live up to the positive reviews. I sent an initial email inquiry one evening and received a response from James within 20 minutes. I explained my situation and he immediately sent me the list of protocols, forms, required crate info, etc, to get the ball rolling. From there, I was handed over to Dana who re-explained everything to me when I had questions, coordinated directly with my vet to get the necessary travel examination and paperwork done and signed, and liaised with the USDA for the required certification. She also managed the paperwork for the EU / UK side (a whole OTHER ball of wax), and put me on email chain with Dean who would be receiving my cat here in the UK and shuttling her through the customs process. So, of my own accord and to lessen the stress on my senior cat, I flew with her in-cabin from LA to NY. Dana arranged for her to be picked-up from me at my NY hotel and have her flown on a flight leaving close in time to my own flight to London. Dana even sent me a photo of my cat in her crate, confirming she had checked in to her flight! I was able to relax on my own flight, knowing my cat was in good hands and even better, once I'd landed in London, my cat was delivered safe and soundly to my door about four hours after my own arrival. I can't thank AE Pets Int'l enough for taking good care of my fur baby, and for taking good care of me emotionally during the complicated process of getting her to another continent. Shipping a pet to the UK is not easy or cheap, but having such a dedicated company handling the details was a blessing and definitely worth it. Unfortunately, I can't recommend AE Pets. Our dog, ultimately only made it to the UK because I had to physically chase down a FedEx truck with the health certificate, which still needed the vets signature, less than 1 hour before he was scheduled to be picked up at our house and depart for the airport. The whole process was extremely stressful due to Kasside's lack of clear communication and negligence in confirming the certificate was received back by the vet in a timely manner. She should have confirmed the certificate was received prior to our showing up for his required medicine that Monday morning only to find out there was an error in the certificate that was submitted to the USDA and it would need to be resubmitted less than 36 hours prior to his scheduled departure. Furthermore, once things started to go wrong she failed to return my phone calls or communicate the contingency plans when I requested them. Lastly, even once Hans was picked up by the company that transported him to the airport in New York (which was a very nice gentleman who was much more responsive and helpful than AE Pets), she never confirmed when he was through customs or on the plane - I had to reach back out to the third party driver to confirm to his knowledge he had made it on the flight. Needless to say I am very displeased with AE Pets especially considering we paid ~$6,000 for their service. I would however recommend both of your business partners, the pet taxi company in New York and the transport company in the UK who was extremely communicative and thorough (pro actively reached out the night before to confirm details, let us know when he landed, let us know when he cleared customs, provided exact ETA when he was in the car). read more

I had 2 cats sent from New York to Hong Kong 1 year ago. The experience was quite stressful and overall negative. I will start by saying, my cats did make it safely, but this is more a testament to the airline carrier and van drivers than AE. What AE was supposed to do was organize everything so that I didn't have to do tons of work/organization myself. Instead, they made things more complicated. We missed TWO flights because of failure of communication. I made mistakes on paperwork as well, but the problem was that they never made clear what needed to be done. There were no coherent checklists, no good points of contact. It was a giant mess. I would NOT recommend them. I think it would have been easier to just to organize things myself, and a LOT cheaper. I worked with AE to send my dog to the Czech Republic. I arrived a month before him so the process was a bit complicated. I was not happy with the service provided by AE. I am a project manager by profession and am used to digging into the details with anything I do. I had to pry For information. For example I wasn't informed of the Czech customs/delivery company's contact info until I asked for it. AE provided an incomplete list of documentation requirements; my vet worked hours to determine what was needed and they didn't seem willing to collaborate with them. They would respond with brief emails and not fully answer the questions posed in many emails. On the day of departure I got an email a few hours before my dog's flight asking me to pay the remaining sum and warning me that he would not be checked in if I did not. When I complained that the timing was awful I was told I had been emailed last week - I save all my emails and this did not happen. Blaming the customer speaks volumes about a business. Our English bulldog was successfully moved by AE Pets International door-to-door from hot Houston, TX, to the cooler Netherlands just a few short weeks ago, and I'm very pleased with the overall experience and would recommend this company. With the overwhelming logistics required in moving an animal--particularly an English bulldog--I expected that some minor issues might arise, considering that our pet had to be ground-transported to NYC over several days in order to get the green light for a flight out of the US unaccompanied. (Special Note: NO US airlines will transport bulldogs as freight/cargo because they are a snub-nosed breed prone to breathing issues in extreme conditions. Lufthansa and KLM will, as long as other requirements are met, such as summer departures from cooler airports under certain temperatures.) Our one minor hiccup re: USDA vet certificate approval in Albany vs. NYC was quickly resolved, resulting in no delays for our pet's final departure. I found that the process tracked as I expected and there were no big surprises. (I did a lot of pre-booking research and verification before hiring.) Dana, our dedicated service rep, did a wonderful job in shepherding the entire process, including regular communication and making all ground-transport arrangements with a third-party pet-shuttle company that did a fantastic job. I also commend AE owners James and Michael for informative phone calls (even after-hours) at the beginning and follow-up throughout the process. If you're seeking to make this an inexpensive endeavor, I'm not sure that you'll find what you're looking for, as there are lots of moving parts to such an undertaking, especially for a restricted breed. Not sure that you can really "cheap out" on something like this, so be prepared. But as I've learned many times, you often get what you pay for---and in this case, you're looking to transport a living creature that's considered a part of the family for many. If we could have put our pet on the plane with us, we would have. But since we couldn't, I appreciate all AE did to make sure our bulldog made it overseas safe and sound. read more

I moved from NYC to Philippines and used their service to transport 2 of our cats. Just want to share my experience dealing with AE throughout the whole journey. I started contacting them about 3 months before the actual departure date. I thought by contacting them earlier, things would have been done at the earliest but I was wrong. 1. Poor management- After paying the deposit, I emailed them to get the timeline on the whole process. Response from them was veryyyyy slow and I had to pry for information. For example- I was given a list of vaccination to be given for the cat and when I showed them to our vet, we were told that one of the vaccination is for dogs. Our vet was surprised and told us the agent should be responsible to advice us. Luckily our vet was honest, what if the vet is trying to get money from us- they would have given the dog vaccination to our cat. When we paid in full, I had to email them so many times asking for a receipt. 2. During the first 2 months, we liaise with Jim and Kassidy. Kassidy was supposed to assist us with the follow-up etc. When we emailed her she didn't response at all. I was getting worried and many times I had to email Jim to inform that I did not get any response from her. According to Jim, Kassidy is busy with other projects. In business, that's is NOT a good reason for you to tell your customer. If you know you can't handle too many jobs at a time, why bother to take more job? 3. About 10 days before the departure, I was told by Jim to contact the CDC of NY on rabies and was asked to get a rabies titer for the cats. I told them why should I appoint them as agent if I need to do all the work and get all the info from CDC. It doesn't make sense at all. Secondly, the country that I am going to does not require any titer test. I got worried, I called CDC on according to them- the cats does not need to get a titer test to move out of US. I find strange for an agent whose been dealing with this industry has very little knowledge. Even if the cat require a titer test, AE should have told me wayyy earlier, as it require at least a month to get the test result according to our vet. 4. Flight itinerary incomplete- A day before the departure, I checked the flight details that was given was incomplete and does not tele with the one on the airline website. When I asked, answer I get from them was : 'I don't know'. Misprint' (is that how you answer to your customer- i'm lost for words!) Well, our cats arrived safely that matters the most eventhough things were done at a very last minute by them. The reason we appoint an agent is to ensure smooth transition and 'stress-free' since moving is already too stressful for us. However, having them as an agent does not put our mind at ease, honestly my husband and I were so stress and worried at all time. I am writing this experience to share with other pet owners, and I hope it will not happen to others. read more

When we found out we were moving back to the UK from Chicago this summer - my immediate concern was how we were going to transport our family pet dog Barney. Having done some research - I came across AE Pets International. James was the first person I spoke to & I instantly felt reassured. The best thing he said to me was - never be concerned about asking questions - however silly they may sound to you. We will have been asked them all before! James informed me that I would be contacted by our personal contact who would be dealing with all Banreys paperwork, appointments & flight details. The following day Dana called - I couldn't have been in better hands! From the moment she called - she was on to sorting things out for us. Sending me the link to which correct crate to buy & size, she made the vet appointments, dealt with the certificates, flight details, arranging the collection of Barney from our home to O Hare airport. I had to leave several weeks before Barney so he was transported over as cargo - this was slightly more in cost. Claudia - came to collect Barney & being an anxious dog - this was a concern of mine. She instantly made him at ease & she stayed with him until he boarded. When at Heathrow - Barney was met & taken to the Animal Reception Centre when his documents where checked & his micro chip scanned. The UK agent then called us saying the was ready to be collected. This was about 5 hours after he landed. The ARC staff were great - Barneys crate had been washed out & Barney had been fed & watered! He had been in a open kennel area to stretch his legs whilst his paperwork was checked. The staff made a fuss of him too so he was pretty chilled by the time we collected him. I would totally recommend AE Pets International & cant thank James & Dana enough for the smooth transition of Barney joining us in the UK. read more

I had an amazing experience with AE Pets on my recent move from the USA to the UK. Though I engaged AE Pets about 6 months before my move, my move was complex, and I was not sure of departure date or location until only about 3 weeks before the move (visas, sigh). James did a great job easing my worries on the initial call and talking through the process. I did get quotes from at least 3 other pet movers, and AE Pets was not only the least expensive, but also the *only* company that offered to talk through everything with me on the phone. The others just emailed me quotes without bothering to learn about my situation. Kasside was my coordinator, and she was incredibly flexible and helpful even when I didn't have a lot of information to give her. When I was finally able to book my travel, she got right on it and made arrangements for my mini poodle to travel as well. Kasside was extremely responsive the entire time I worked with her, often getting back to my emails within an hour or two for non-urgent questions. The vet I worked with also told me how fantastic it was to work with Kasside, since she (the vet) didn't do many international pet moves and it's hard for her to keep track of everything. My dog was picked up on time, transported by compassionate and professional pet movers, and had an easy trip to London. I moved from NYC to London and had to bring my 10 pound poodle. When I first booked AE Pets to help me with the process I was worried it was a waste of money to have someone else handle this, but it is worth every penny. The amount of paperwork was astonishing. I would have never known what I needed or how to get it. I worked with Kasside and she was such a pleasure. She told me exactly when to book vet appointments and for what (the U.K. is very strict on these appointments being specific number of days before arrival), she was in contact with my vet the whole time, my dog was picked up at my home and dropped off at my new flat in the UK. I basically did nothing at all! Their staff accompanied my dog at both airports with all paperwork. It also made me feel better that he was being looked after. Kasside was always available to me and kept me updated the whole time we worked together. He arrived today totally happy and I could not be more thrilled! read more

After a recommendation by my vet's office, I called AE Pets to get a dog to Costa Rica. The owners of the dog were already there, and I had to get the dog (Cody) there. The owners were in agreement, paid the fee, and then we got going. I could not believe what all is involved, but Dana Bender was assigned as the coordinator, and the sun came out. Her efficiency was awesome, Cody left Chicago on time, had a layover in Houston, and arrived in Costa Rica on time. Cody was tired when he got there, but not too tired to go crazy when he saw his owners. I have had daily emails from my friends and lots of pictures of Cody living the good life, and it was the very best thing to have sent Cody to his owners. There was so much to keep up with, by Dana had everything coordinated and marching forward. She was an absolute delight to work with, and there was not a glitch in the planning and executing the plan. I would recommend this company to anyone who wants to ship an animal. read more

We used this company to relocate our two cats back to the UK. Our journey from UK to USA was awful and as a result we were terrified too put them through it again. When I phoned Jim about the service he provided, I told him how scared we were for our cats. He listened and told me he had never had a problem and not too worry. First up we paid $ 3300 for his fee. Within the first day, my husband was getting forms and having to get them photocopied and emailed to this company. We would then have to email Jim to see if he had received them. Days would pass without any answer and countless times my Husband had to call Jim to see if he had received the documents. He over looked many and we would tell him they had been sent. He would acknowledge this with a "Got it" By this time we were really getting worried. There was one document in particular that we knew we needed as did our vet but we were told by Jim that it was no longer relevant as we had passports for our cats. We kept on about this document and Jim would say " I am sure it will be fine" !!!! On the day of our departure, we knew we were going to have a problem. Jim arranged for our cats to be picked up outside of a hotel near the airport. His driver was late, and had NO documents for our cats trip. She was clueless. My Husband had copies of everything and we gave them to her. We felt helpless handing our cats over. By this time, my Husband had quite a heated discussion with Jim, but we were at his mercy. The cats were put in the boot of a hatch back car and his driver put the air con on. We quickly got to the airport checked our bags and headed straight to PetAir. Our cats were not there. The driver appeared about 20 minutes after us. What would have happened if we had not gone to PetAir. We would have got to Scotland and our cats would still have been in America. We were then told we did not have the right paper work. The driver did not know what to do and neither did Jim. All he kept saying was he had just sent a dog to London and that it was United's fault. JIM DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO. We were beside ourselves and my Husband was getting ready to take our cats back to Philadelphia from Newark. We had all the paperwork to get back into the UK but not to leave the USA. You would think that a company who does exports would know that much. For the next 2 hours we sat on the floor with our cats in their crates and hoped for the best. The people at PetAir helped us and my Husband got all the proper paperwork. JIM DID NOTHING. Luckily our vet had the proper credentials to issue the certificate that we needed. If he had not, then we would have had to take our stressed cats on another 2 and a half hour car ride back to Philly and book new flights and all our luggage was checked so I do not know what we would have done. The cats were taken away with less than an hour to take off. Jim sent us the most unprofessional email that I have ever read. I would put a copy of it on this web site if I could. If you value your pets, then please do not use this joke of a company. The most unprofessional person I or my Husband have ever dealt with. BEWARE. HE ONLY CARES ABOUT MONEY NOT PETS LIVES. read more
