Absolutely the worst dog groomer I've ever used in NYC…read more My dog has been professionally groomed once a month for the past 8 years, and any competent groomer knows what a Lhasa Apso haircut should look like. I sent multiple reference photos and clearly said do not shave him. Lhasa Apsos have a double coat, and shaving it can permanently damage the texture. Guess what they did? They shaved my dog. Then they actually tried to argue that he looked like the photos I sent. In what universe? My dog has always had a round face, and they shaved his face down. The owner did call to apologize, but even then she wouldn't admit the haircut looked nothing like the reference photos. Now I'm stuck hoping his coat grows back properly. Shaving a Lhasa Apso changes the coat texture, which leads to matting as it grows back, not to mention it makes him vulnerable to overheating, sun damage, and skin irritation. Any experienced groomer knows this. Beyond that, the place smells terrible. There's no one at the front desk, and you don't get to see where they take your dog or how clean (or dirty) the grooming area actually is. I completely regret bringing my dog here. I only tried this place because we just moved to the neighborhood and our usual groomer is farther away. Lesson learned -- the Uber ride to the Upper East Side is worth it, because this never would have happened at Canine Styles. I will not be coming back.

We have brought our Boston terrier to Happy Dogs several times, and always found them to take…read moreexcellent care of him. We have done both overnight (boarding) and daycare. Checkin and out are always super simple, and we really love being able to get a live look in on him via their members only live camera. The staff is also very helpful and professional. Their "members" website can be a little confusing at first, but works quite well. Would be a 5-star experience if 1) the price was a little lower. Especially for daycare, the cost is a little steep compared to what you could find on rover or at other locations in Queens. 2) They were 100% consistent with daily feeding and medication updates. Most of the time they provide a daily update with info on meals and medications, however when they don't do that, it does leave us wondering how our dog is doing.

I want to share a disturbing experience we recently had with Pet Island…read more My dog vomited after chewing on an American Pet 6" Bully Flosser I bought from them. Soon after, I noticed several worms on my floor and wool carpet. I immediately took the stick away and found it was crawling with worms. During that same purchase, I also bought a bag of ACANA CHEWY TENDERS, which the staff had recommended. After discovering the worms in the bully stick, I checked the package of treats and saw that the Best Before Date was 17/11/2024. Considering I bought it on the evening of 11/14, that only gave us three days to use the product before it expired! While it's possible that the staff were unaware of the issue with the bully stick, knowingly selling a product with such a short shelf life is unacceptable. I went back to the store to request a full refund for both items, but the staff/owner refused. They argued that the treats were still fine because a large dog could finish them in a single day and mentioned that since I bought them at a 50% discount, I should bear the responsibility. What upset me the most was their complete lack of concern--they didn't apologize for the worms or even ask if my dog was okay after chewing on the infested stick. Their cold attitude toward animals and rude behavior left me very disappointed. For us, it's not about the money; it's about being a responsible retailer. If you shop there, please be vigilant and thoroughly check any products before giving them to your pets! I prefer supporting small local businesses over big-box stores, but this experience has made me rethink that choice.

I like this store a lot. It's small and kind of cramped but they manage to stock everything I need…read morefor my dog and my small rodent (hamster). They also have a cute kitten. Prices are fair and they offer sales every so often. Staff is very nice too.

I know you're prob seeing bad reviews thinking "hopefully that wont happen" but it might. My dog was bit by another dog at this facility by a dog they knew was aggressive but since the owners claimed to give him CBD he was allowed in the facility?... They didn't offer to pay for vet bills, gave me a "discount" and checked in like 2xs via IG DM. Please look elsewhere

THEY DEFINITELY EARNED THIS 5 STAR REVIEW! And honestly if I could have given this place 100 stars…read moreI would. I have been in search for a new groomer for my two golden retrievers for a few months now after having bad experiences with two other local places in Astoria. I was put at ease after reading all their positive reviews so I gave them a shot. We were scheduled this past Friday for a 9AM and 10AM appt. We got there a little early but Beth didn't mind. She was so nice and attentive. She asked me all the right questions, wrote down all of my instructions and was just so easy to deal with. The whole time my dogs were in their care, I was informed about everything. I even got videos during their grooming session as my male golden retriever is 9 years old and so delicate. I am SO thankful that I found this place! I had even asked for their holiday grooming schedule was looking like before we left. This has become our new go to place for grooming and definitely day care; if needed. Thank you NYC PET SERVICES! See you in November!
