Place always smelled good- she sell air fresheners/ candles. My pet loved Spa Day w the previous owner. Any Spa- my pet love. She use to be excited but not anymore. Her Last 3 visits she came back sad. Unusual. Last visit appt was at 10. I did not get a call back, text back or update. I went to the store at 5:00. She ask for 20 minutes. I returned at 5: 00, she needed more time. I can back at 6 ( closing) my pet was not ready. I came back at 7:30 and pet was finally finished. 10-7:30 was absolutely too long for a senior dog.- any dog. Owner said dog needed 5 baths which is not true. She assumed my pet was not bathed for 5 months. She is disorganized- I pulled the calendar and showed her my pet was bathed every 30 days. She was shocked at my records.. The last visit w her was January. - owner did not have record. Her record keeping is not up to par. I personally groomed in February. We are in March. My pet is an inside pet and mall walker- one wash and condition is all that is ever needed. She would always compliment me on my pets coat. I always get compliments on my pets coat. My dog is 14 years old. I KNOW MY PETS NEEDS. Owner just kept saying she had a bad day. I gather she had a bad day but don't blame my pet. Owner overbooked. I noticed 2 -100 pound long haired dogs. I noticed a total of 7 dogs were picked up in the small wait time. Owner was overwhelmed, erratic, emotional, and disorganized. My pet was sad and took a few days to recover from the groom. Terrible communication, had an appointment for early Saturday 9:30am. Apparently she was backed up on appointments from the previous day . So Lana didn't start working on my dog till 12:30 pm. The only reason we found out is because I called to ask if my dog was ready and she said it'll be another 2 hours . So that means my dog was just sitting in a crate for 3 hours . Decent groomer , just doesn't know how to communicate. Could've easily just told me she was backed up and just rescheduled. read more

2 times, my standard poodle had a raging ear infection less than a week after grooming. Before The last grooming, I advised the owner to be careful that her ears were dry, because of the last infection. At the end of the visit, I asked"How are her ears?" she reported" good". 5 days later, Mt girl was at the Vet with an ear infection and I had a big bill. Lana, the owner had no interest when I reported this to her, and she said"You always complain!" the prices were very good, but now they are same as the premium groomers. the cut was very good.. no complaints there. I'm new to the area and chose Silky Pups due to the consistently high reviews and proximity to my house. I wasn't disappointed. I have a long hair chihuahua mix named Lucas who generally comes back from grooming appointments with his hair shaved off to a degree. Like any dog he's got feathering that defines his overall look, so it's generally disappointing to have someone just lop everything off without a second thought. Lana and Silky Pups did exactly what I had hoped any groomer would do, which is give him a trim in all the right spots while leaving his unique feathering more or less intact. He looked like he was ready for an AKC competition after all was said and done, bowtie and all. Lana did a great job at grooming our big bear. We have a big golden retriever and it's really hard to find groomers that are good at long-haired large dogs. Lana is an exception though. In all honesty, this was the best hair cut that Buddy has gotten from a groomer. In addition, Lana showed me a couple spots on Bud's belly which had caused him a rash. I said no way, I'm not bringing him near you ever again. They hung up on me. Then, a few minutes later, they called me back and said "That's rude, you NEED to bring the dog back." Do not take your pet to this groomer, she just yell and me and was dragging my dog around so I left. This was once known as Paws Pet Grooming owned by a wonderful woman named Veronica. I took my previous dog Que a Cocker Spaniel there for 12 years until he passed and then my now dog (Morkie) Kai until she sold the business now known as Silky Paws. When Veronica left I began taking my dog Kai to Pawllywood also in Union and they do an awesome job, I did give Silky Paws a chance but just found Pallywood to be more convenient. Covid have all the groomers very busy and it is hard to get an appointment so I made an appointment with Pallywood who could not groom Kai until 6/11 and then called Silky Paws to see if I could get an earlier appointment and was scheduled for today 6/8 at 12pm. I work from home and had a meeting to attend at 12pm so I called to see if I could bring him early and got not answer so I just went to drop him off around 11:20am. Once I got there and inside the person that runs the business was in the middle of grooming another dog and got a call to schedule a grooming appointment so I waited. Once she was done she came out to speak with me, I told her I was dropping Kai off early so I would not be late for a work video meeting, and I did say I had to go a few times. She began to ask me questions about previous visits there, my dog's name and my name....I saw no appointment book which would have helped her. She brought me her laptop and sat it in front of me and asked me to type my name...I told her I really needed to go and she began to yell at me, grabbed Kai from me by his leash and started to drag him to the back. I told her to give me my dog back as I was not comfortable with her grooming my dog now. She continued to yell and told me "YOU STARTED THIS!" I was like what the heck is going on. She went on and on about her being busy and a few other things that have nothing to do with my being a customer who was there for a service. This was so ugly and I was in disbelief. My final words to her were that I have worked in Customer Service for over 20 years and have never yelled at a customer, I am a Customer Service Team Manager for Audible, owned by Amazon. She was blocking the door and I felt uncomfortable trying to leave and all I envision is this woman dragging my dog to the back by his leash...I will never return to Silky Paws and will tell this to anyone who will listen...Thank God I kept my 6/11 appointment at Pawllywood. I have lived in Union County for close to 27 years I have never ever had such an encounter. read more

Brought my goldendoodle in for grooming with Lana at silky pups on 6/9/23. On pick up, she was very apologetic about the job. Saying she wasn't she if he was 'ok.' I thought she meant she wasn't sure if I'd like the job she did, but I realize now she hurt my dog. Dog was very irritated when he got home, but this can be normal after getting groomed. I am aware of this as I have had many dogs throughout my life. However, he did not get better. Had to bring him to animal hospital to get treated for an infection in his foot, see pictures. He has been suffering since he was groomed. He was prescribed 2 antibiotics for 14 days. Bill from vet $223. Went to Lana with the bill from vet, the meds, the pictures, and the dog. She was extremely defensive and said it was a dog bite, or the dog stepped in poop. He's 4 years old and has been walking outside all of his life. He did not get bit by a dog. She blamed everything but herself. She wouldn't take responsibility for any error. Listen, people make mistakes and shit happens but you should be honest and be a woman of integrity. I would not recommend this place if you love your pet. Go elsewhere. read more

Lana was so amazing!!! My Shepard Husky Mix rescue- Bear has such bad separation anxiety I was hesitant to bring her in for grooming. She needed de-shedding and a hair cut. Lana took her in and Bear was so afraid she didn't put her in a crate. She gave her a bath haircut and blow dry. By the end my Bear was giving kisses to Lana and leaning into her. I took my dog here for the first time today. I made an appt two days before and waited for a confirmation or follow up but nothing. Eventually I called and confirmed the apopt. When I arrived I had to circle the property to find parking. Upon calling, Lana tells me that she forgot to tell me about the parking lot. I finally park and take my dog inside. After a few moments, she takes him inside and rushes me out because another customer was at the door. Telling me he will be ready in 2 hours. After 2 hours and no calls, I finally called and she tells me he's ready. I go to pick him up, everything's great. I leave and when I'm taking my dog out of the car to take him inside the house I noticed the leash is entirely chewed through, a slight pull and the leash ripped in half and my dog was on the street. Thankfully, he is well trained and went into the house as instructed. I called Lana right away and explained her that the leash was ripped in half. She went on about how she didn't know he was chewing the leash and with new dogs she puts them in big cages with the leash. Then said she doesn't have leashes at the store but I could buy a leash and next time she will reimburse me but that she will only pay half as this is my fault too. I asked her how this was my fault and she told me it was because I didn't tell her that he was going to chew on the leash. I told her this was my first time at her store, she rushed me out without explaining to me how she keeps the dogs, and had she told me he was going to be on the leash or given me the time of day I could've told her that. Other groomers that I have been to always take the leash and harness off. She wouldn't take responsibility for something that happened on her watch and just kept going on and on without letting me speaking. When I finally raised my voice she asked me why? I said I've been trying to tell you that I actually enjoyed your services and if you would take full responsibility for this I would bring my dog back to your grooming service. But she chose to be prideful and unprofessional. After reading all the reviews, I'm truly disappointed in the service I received. read more

We used to live in Maplewood, and went to Paws because it was close. When we moved to West Orange we tried other places for a while but my dogs are so much happier with Veronica that we would not consider going anywhere else again. She is so loving and so careful with them. Barker needs to be muzzled sometimes but it's only because he gets scared; he loves her, and so does Piper. Veronica saved both their lives -- found blood in Barker's poop (it was hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, easy to fix but if not taken care of right away, could have been FATAL) and found a cancerous tumor, tiny one, on Piper's leg -- she was only 2, but they caught it so early that she didn't even need chemo or radiation.
