Yesterday, I brought my dog (Kelani) in to be groomed. I've been bringing her here generally every 3-4 months for the past year and have not been disappointed yet. STAFF: The groomers are efficient and they treat my yorkie sweetly, handling her as if she were their own. The interactions I've had with them have been good. Furthermore, they are professional, kind and patient. THEIR WORK: I get a special cut for her and she always looks and smells great when I pick her up. Her nails are manicured nicely and yesterday, she had 2 pretty bows in her head. She looked adorable! PRICES: The prices are fair. Although I've never been to any other professional grooming business, I can only assume that $65 is a good price for the grooming she gets. I have no complaints. LOCATION: The location is convenient- about 5 mins from Route 22 and they have a small lot with adequate parking. The inside of the business appears clean -as clean as you can get considering they are a dog business. The smell - like I said, they're a dog business :-/ It doesn't stink but it does smell like animals :-) I'm pleased with Puppy Love. My original review was for 5 stars when they were in the Maplewood location, but ever since the service has really gone down. After multiple times of having my dog come home extremely thirsty and would get hot spots in his private region from being shaved too close. I've complained to them multiple times before getting groomed, they were still doing the same and blaming it on me for not bringing him in more often. If appointments weren't "booked" for 2 weeks or more, I would have! Also, he would come home and show abnormal behavior (such as sit on his bed quietly for hours), as if he was abused or maltreated. I know my dog and he's such a happy - excitable dog. I wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt because they were the first groomers I went to since I had my dog, but sometimes you just have to follow your instincts. I've since gone to another local groomers that does a much better job for a lot less than what Puppy Love was charging me, and I'm not getting anymore of the problems I was having. No more hot spots and at home, he's his usual loving-excitable self but with a wonderful fresh look to him. I'm glad I've switched groomers and appointments are available within days! read more

We have been with Lisa and Puppy Love through her 3 locations. We found her when we first moved to New Jersey after being disappointed by many groomers in the search for someone to take care of our cocker spaniel. Our next dog was a Wheaton terrier who turned aggressive around 2 years old and despite LOTS of training, we had a difficult dog. We had to muzzle our dog to take him to the vet but NOT to see Lisa, she was a miracle worker and could handle him. Our next dog didn't need grooming and could fit in our tub so no more Lisa UNTIL, my daughter brought home a long-haired cat she found at college. Well, who knew Lisa also does CATS and thank goodness because this guy is adorable BUT he sheds in whites clumps and a his twice a year Lion Cut makes a difference. I have been taking my dog to Puppy Love for 10 years. Over those 10 years my dog starts shrieking with excitement when we approach Puppy Love and comes home almost depressed that he had to leave. Do not bring your dog here. An hour after I picked up my dog both his eyes were completely swollen shut. I had to call the vet in a panic who told me if the swelling did not go down to bring him in immediately. Thankfully the swelling went down a bit 15 hours later but his eyes remain red and swollen. In addition they completely cut off his long eyelashes, he has no eyelashes left. When I called to tell this place about what had happened they told me that when a dog is shaved they always shave off the eyelashes. This is ridiculous as I have always had my dog shaved and never once have his eyelashes been shaved off. Eyelashes serve a purpose: to protect the eye and prevent dust and particles from flying in the eye. Very upset and cannot believe they justified shaving my dogs eyelashes and did not even offer to refund me or make it right somehow. read more

I was nervous to leave h the first time but the staff was super friendly and very professional. I was very happy when I returned to pick up and he was so cute! No problems whatsoever. We (my dog and i) love this place!! They are so caring and loving. Not to mention the perfect cut!!! They also take notice to each dog's personality. For instance, when you arrive at the desk you will most likely be greeted by dogs that love other dogs and humans. You won't be getting greeted by my dog. They will open a room door and carry her out. Everytime I see this I know I've come to the right place! They are also very accommodating as far as pick up/drop off times. If I'm running late or early I give them a call and it's never an issue. They also dont say things to imply I am the worst pet owner since I'm not able to get my dog groomed as often as I would like. My schnauzer mix Bailey looked AMAZING when I picked him up!!! Best grooming yet...so handsome and soft! He came with a cute scarf and I almost died! AND he was happy! Bailey has a bit of general anxiety, but when I took him in for his fresh cut, he paid me no mind (usually he's crying lol). The owner is pleasant, personable, and took care of my dog with kindness. It makes sad to write this review, as my dog has been going to Puppy Love for a few years now and I've been pleased with the grooming and the fact she gets to play with the other dogs for a bit. Over the past few months, I've gotten increasingly bad feelings about leaving my dog here. After a grooming last week, I decided I would not come back again. First, when I walk in the door, I notice a VERY strong smell of urine. There is junk piled and stacked all over the place in the reception area. There is also TONS of dog hair visible everywhere...on the floors, on said junk...everywhere! I've noticed this condition on multiple occasions and regardless of being there later in the afternoon or when the place opens at 7:30am, so its not like this happened on one off day only and maybe they were busy and fell behind on cleaning. I understand its a groomer and daycare with many animals coming in and out, but it is noticeably dirtier than other groomers we've been to. Actually, I've never to be another groomer that has the stuff piled, the smell, or the hair all over the place. Second, on my last visit there were too many dogs hanging behind the receptionists desk and there didn't seem to be enough staff to handle them all. While I was checking my dog in, a small dog jumped on the chair, then on top of the tall receptionist's desk. The dog could have easily ran right out the door if someone walked in. If I knew that was my dog standing on top of this desk a few feet from the door I'd be livid. The receptionist seemed overwhelmed checking myself and another customer in while managing 6 or 7 dogs under the desk. There was just a chaotic feel to it all and my normally friendly, happy dog would not go in the door to the reception area. She had to be coaxed and pulled in by the receptionist. In the past she would eagerly stand by the door and run right in when it opened and not look back (which made me happy!). I'm used to picking up my dog and her paying me no mind as she interacts with the other dogs behind the desk as I paid the bill. This last time, I poked my head over and she looked right at me and started barking and would not stop barking at me until she came out. She was not interacting with the other dogs and overall seemed very anxious. She normally LOVES being around other dogs, as this was the reason I'd bring her here over other groomers. I know she is a dog and their temperament can change, but you can understand how concerned I was as a pet parent that she was not behaving like "herself." Finally, exactly a week after her grooming, she developed Kennel Cough which was confirmed after a vet visit (complete with an X-Ray) and placed on medicine. She was not around any other dogs since her grooming or in the day or two prior. While I cannot prove for certain she got the Cough there, I can't help but make the connection between the dirty and crowded conditions and the cough. I still give this place 2 stars because the grooming is very good and the staff clearly loves the animals and treats them kindly. However, after a few months of the smell and dirty conditions, my dogs unusual behavior and development of Kennel Cough, I will not be back. read more

Five minutes after checking in my dog for daycare at Puppy Love, the person at the desk could not find my dog. I believe the reason for this was that there was no one responsible person watching the daycare dogs. The person at the desk said that all the groomers who were grooming dogs , were watching the 20 dogs in the daycare area. That is not possible. How could they groom and watch? We left quickly, but it is sad to see an accident waiting to happen. ( My usually social dog had found a hiding place under a table...surrounded by four very large frisky dogs. ) In the upset state of calling for him ,after the woman couldn't find him,I noticed poop piles, also unscooped. I've been taking my dog there for four years. As long as the dogs are friendly they get to run around with each other and mine loves going! Lisa and her staff are flexible with scheduling and once took him with no notice when he rolled in something stinky and I didn't have time to bathe him myself.
