Do NOT ever bring your older dogs for grooming here. We picked up our 11 year old Australian Shepherd from his grooming appointment and he could not walk! My husband picked him up from here and they said "oh ya he couldn't stand up so we had 2 groomers hold him up." They could of easily called me during his appointment and said "hey Taz is not standing ip the entire time, is there anything we can do for him" or they could of easily canceled the appointment and said they couldn't do it for him. When I called and asked what happened to my dog, they proceeded to ask me " well has he ever been groomed before?" I said plenty of times bc he has so much hair and goes once a month and he's NEVER once had an issue and walked out limping or not walking at all. They also had the audacity to post our dog on their social media account after he COULD NOT WALK! read more

7 month old dog ran out of store. lost for 20 hours bare minimum help from owners to find him My 7 month old dog was trying on collars and leashes in Wonder Dog when the one of the owners opened the front door (after being warned that my dog in the store was skittish and could make a run for it) and my dog bolted out of the door. The owner (self proclaimed 18+ of dog experience) chased after him scaring him even more and he ran off through town. He was missing for 20+ hours, overnight and in a rainstorm. It was an exhausting and traumatic ordeal. The Wonder Dog team did the absolute bare minimum to help with the search. They posted on their social media, drove around in their car for a little bit (my family was on foot with flash lights for hours late into the night and early morning) and suggested we call in an amber alert. That was it. That was only help they provided. Not a single staff member came to help with the search that went on for 20+ hours. After the dog was found, we didn't receive even a milk bone or a check-in from the owner (which honestly, is all for the best). The Wonder Dog team did not meet my family with compassion, empathy or patience over these 20 hours. They had no plan to remediate the situation. No plan of action or direction on how to find a lost dog. They were defensive and all-in-all not helpful. From my experience with Wonder Dog, they do not feel like "dog people" or provide the care and expertise you want from a business centered around dog health and well being. Additionally, my experience showed me that Wonder Dog does not care or understand the values of the community it set shop up in. Additional notes: Initially, because my dog is not confident in new places or situations, my dog was in the car with my father while my mother ran in to get the new collar. I decided to try this place even though it doesn't have the best Yelp rating because of the convenience and the reviews seemed more about miscommunications than quality of service. I've brought my rescue (who is quite nervous getting groomed and examined) twice so far to get groomed, and each time he's left clean and happy. If needed, I'd use their doggy daycare service as well. Each staff member I've met has been very welcoming and friendly. Most importantly, I can tell they genuinely care about dogs. read more

I rarely write reviews but couldn't hold my tongue any longer. We sent our little dog to "camp" for a weekend at The Farm (the owner's home), which looked idyllic from the social media presence. We communicated our dog's needs (no cages, majority of time spent indoors) to the owner and emphasized that we needed communication and updates on how he was doing while we were away. She promised us that he'd be allowed to roam free in the house given his size and promised to send lots of pics and updates. No pictures except for one a few hours before we picked him up. Barely any communication other than a few generic "he's doing great"s. We had to text each time beckoning for an update. When we picked him up he was visibly shaken. (We wonder whether he was kept in a cage in the barn where the bigger dogs sleep. Can't say for certain.) Turns out the owner was in Vegas for a convention that weekend and that our dog wasn't under her care or watch at all. Will not be returning to this business again. read more

NEVER GOING BACK. I've been taking my dog to Urban Paws for almost 4 years, but after my experience on Saturday, I'm never using this business again. I made sure to book the first appointment of the morning, because it was going to be a very hectic day. We arrived early, and there were no other dogs there. I was told I would receive a phone call when he was done. They did not specify a time. When I didn't hear from the staff over 2 hours later, I called to inquire. It normally only takes 45 minutes for them to wash and cut my 23 pound dog, so I was concerned. I was told that they'd be starting him right away. I asked why the delay, and the receptionist got an attitude with me and told me how busy they'd been all day. I didn't appreciate his tone of voice, but negotiated a 15% discount for the inconvenience of having to cancel our lunch plans while waiting on the groomer to finish. They told me it would be another 30 minutes. An hour later they called to tell me that he was done -- OVER 3 HOURS TOTAL. I picked up my little guy right away. There were no other dogs there, and the "CLOSED" sign was on the door. They had obviously taken every other appointment before him, even though he'd been the first appointment of the day. He was completely stressed out and exhausted. When I checked out, the cashier that I'd spoken to on the phone, who had promised me the 15% discount, decided he didn't want to give me a discount anymore. He insisted that I pay full price and insisted that his coworker told me it would take 2 hours to groom the dog when I dropped him off. This was not the case. He continued repeating himself, I was outraged that he would insist that I was lying. I tried getting in touch with the manager, Jessica, and left 3 messages on her cell phone to call me back. She's been dodging me for 4 days now. So, this long time, loyal customer is LONG GONE! I can't believe how UNPROFESSIONAL they were. STAY AWAY! They don't care about you or your pets! read more

WARNING ABOUT WONDER DOG STUDIO: (former employee review). TLDR: Use of pain based punishment and under-staffed. If you are considering sending your dog to Wonder Dog Studio for the pack day camp or training, I strongly recommend you consider another option. The day camp and trainer use primarily punishment based management and training with dogs. There are far too many dogs in too small of a space to create a positive environment for all the dogs (sometimes two workers looking over 50+ dogs). This led to some dogs being very excited and with so many dogs and it was not uncommon for them to get out of control and sometimes even draw blood on another dog. Many of the shy and timid dogs appeared to be very stressed and would cower along the side of the walls to avoid the chaos in the middle of the room. Many of the staff "manage" the over-capacity dog camp by yelling at the misbehaving dogs. One of the worst punishments I saw at the day camp was when my coworkers kept a prong collar on a dog all day and when she misbehaved, they would give the prong a sharp yank to hurt the dog as a punishment. In addition to working at the day camp, the lead trainer, Nick Valentino, was teaching me how he does training. At first I was impressed by his technique and how responsive the dogs were to him. However, Nick primarily relies on punishment and force based methods to make dogs do what he wants. This includes the use of shock collars and prong collars to cause pain. I even witnessed Nick implementing a shock collar on an excitable young dog that did not have serious behavioral issues. Although pain based training appears to be effective, it can be very stressful and in some cases can lead to aggression. The Humane Society's website explains that: "Shock collars are often misused and can create fear, anxiety and aggression in your dog toward you or other animals. While they may suppress unwanted behavior, they do not teach a dog what you would like them to do instead and therefore should not be used." I was fired from Wonder Dog Studio because I wanted to focus on rewarding good behavior (reward based training), rather than punishing bad behavior. I love Urban Paws!! I regularly travel all the way from Red Bank, NJ to Summit (about an hour) for my dogs grooming and for their Boot Camp classes. I have never had a bad experience in all my trips. The staff at the store quickly got to know me and my dogs, every time we walk in we are welcomed by name. My dogs get so excited to go to Urban Paws that as soon as we get off the highway they are both up and wagging their tails in anticipation. I have shopped for my 100 pound pit bull and my 12 pound Jack Russell in the store. AS far as the bath..my dogs haven't needed much grooming (Beagles) yet they are always clean and DRY WHEN YOU PICK THEM up!!! That's a treat. When I get them home, no shedding..just one clean dog. Used to be Urban Paws...now they are WONDER DOG Studio. Stay away!! Our dog had gone a few times before, once noticing she seemed loopy after her visit. This time around, they refused to groom her and said we should get her medicated by our vet before going. Our dog never had an issue with any groomer in the past and has a very loving, sweet disposition. Just is a little anxious with a groom. We should have known something because each time taking her there, she's been terrified. Something is not right with this place. Also, after her time there yesterday, she's been sick - throwing up and not herself. Stay away!!! read more

Brought my dog in for bath and grooming. A few weeks before they had bathed him and said he would need a groom. I brought him back. He tends to get matted and we brush him constantly. They said they would brush him out and shave a few areas where he was matted. We did not think he was overly matted because we have dealt with his fur for almost 4 years. If a groomer is patient they take the time to use all sorts of brushes to deal with it. These guys shaved him to the bone. They told me they were going to only shave the matted parts which is what I requested. They said it might not look great but it was what I asked for. I now have a totally shaved dog and they cut his ear while doing so. They then left a lot of fur hanging around his private parts. I pointed it out and he said he was afraid of hurting him! We are so upset that they did this without our permission. I of course paid them and gave the groomer a great tip because I was too stunned to do otherwise. We have been bringing our dog to Urban Paws for the past 2 years. He has done boot camp, we have boarded him at the farm when we have gone away and have gotten him groomed here. We love that they come and pick Teddy up and drop him off. Teddy comes home tired and happy which is a wonderful thing! They love Teddy like he is their own dog and take such good care of him. On more than one occasion we have made last minute requests and the staff has gone above and beyond to accommodate us. Urban Paws, The Farm - has been a saving grace for my family and also for the rescue group that I volunteer for. Its not very often that you find people with true skill, willing to GIVE BACK and to help. That's what you get here and so much MORE !! I was lucky enough to meet Nick and Liz thru the rescue group that I volunteer for. They took in some dogs for us that had "issues" and committed to help rehabilitate these dogs so that they could finally find forever homes. Sadie, a dog whom resided at the rescue groups kennel facility for close to 2 years for fear aggression and aggression towards other dogs - is now living in a HOME. Thanks to them, their training and their continued commitment to this dog, Sadie has truly been saved. Several other dogs - one that I work with in particular, with severe guarding is now after FOUR YEARS at the kennel, living at The Farm, getting help, running FREE !! And just when I thought, I couldn't express enough gratitude, something happened to my family pet, in our home and I needed help. Once again Urban Paws, stepped up, and as I sit here, it is because of THEM, that all 4 of my dogs are learning to live in balance again. When I reached out to them - they responded, they were honest, they took the time and they had patience for not only my dogs, but for ME !! Urban Paws in Summit did an outstanding job on Monty, a Schnauzer/Poodle mix who went in looking like an animated tangle of barbed wire and came out looking like Canine Cary Grant. Only slight negative was that he went in at 11:30a and we didn't get a call until 2:15p. Still, a great job and we'll be back. read more

Everyone in this shop is extremely NICE! They offer high-end dog products, treats and food. The grooming service however leaves much to be desired. They butchered my dog's coat and sent her back uneven and choppy. They're fine for the occassional bath but I'll never bring my dog there for a hair cut again. read more

I decided to try Urban Paws just because of the convenience of it being in Summit and not having a car yet. First time I called the shop Amanda picked up who was super helpful giving me the rates and also told me they do pick up and drops offs. I set up the trial walk to see how my pup would do and the next morning the owner Jess came to pick him up. Jess is awesome & super helpful when I was trying to figure out how often my pup should go,initially I wanted him to go everyday but instead of her agreeing so I would buy a bigger package she told me he should go twice week and suggested a smaller package...honesty with salesmanship go along way in my book.Amanda who seems to be her right hand girl is amazing too I can ask her a question and she's super knowledgeable and will also relay any question I have to Jess...Overall this place has me sold and I can't see my pup going anywhere else!! read more

I will NEVER take my dogs to Urban Paws again. My bichon frisee came out looking like a Jack Russel today- WORST HAIRCUT EVER!!!! He had some matting behind his ears because he had surgery and had been in a cone. I discussed this with the groomer and told her to shave out the mats if necessary, but leave the rest of his body a decent length. She said she would call me if she found more matts or more shaving was necessary. They also said they would call when my dogs were finished. I never got a call, stopped in 2 hours later, and I literally didn't recognize my dog when they brought him to me. The only way I knew it was him was because of his scar from surgery. My other dog, a labradoodle, looks awful too. He now has a tiny head, a big body and a very weird tail. He looks awful, but not as horrendous as my bichon. They have no idea what they are doing at this place, and I will NEVER go back :( read more

I just brought my dog in to be bathed and groomed. I spent over 5 minutes explaining exactly how I wanted him to be trimmed. The bather of the dogs seemed to understand what I wanted. Before they took him, they told me they were a little backed up. Less than 2 hours later I received a call that he was done and could be picked up. The manager seemed to pride herself on keeping the dogs on a quick pace and not giving her staff too many breaks. when they brought him out I did not recognize him. They completely butchered his coat and did not pay attention to any of the things that I had asked them to do and his ear was still dirty. When I called back to complain, the manager said she would return my money. I demanded to speak to the owner. When she called me back, one of her responses was "dogs dont need their eye lashes". That sums up what a horrible job they did. She offered to return my money and give me a complimentary cut in the future, and I responded that "I would not bring in my pet rat if I had one".
