Over the past 40 years my family and I have watched how much this practice has declined due to management staff and certain veterinarian staff members. I HIGHLY recommend taking your loved family member to a different veterinary practice. I am extremely disappointed by the care my dog received at Murray Hill Veterinary Associates. In my experience, my dog was misdiagnosed by Dr. P and mistreated by Dr. C while suffering from multiple serious and life-threatening health conditions that required immediate and coordinated medical attention. Management staff, Nate and Jessica along with Dr. H and Dr. B failed to provide these services due to me advocating for my family member. Dr. H issued a prescription that contained improper dosing information. As a responsible and concerned pet owner, I advocated for my dog and requested a corrected prescription. At that point, office managers Jessica and Nathan became involved. What should have been a straightforward correction escalated unnecessarily. Their approach, in my experience, was dismissive and rude rather than solution-oriented. Instead of de-escalating the situation and ensuring my dog received prompt and appropriate care, the handling of my concerns created further confusion, delays, and stress. The breakdown in communication and the manner in which my concerns were handled significantly worsened the situation. From my perspective, the lack of professionalism and compassion from management created a cascading effect that ultimately impacted the veterinarians involved, including Dr. H and Dr. B. What could have been resolved quickly became, in my view, a much larger and avoidable disaster due to poor communication and failure to prioritize patient care. I also experienced instances where crucial messages left with Jessica and Nate that I requested to be passed along to the veterinarians were, to my knowledge, not communicated. When a pet has life-threatening medical conditions, any delay or miscommunication can have serious consequences. No pet owner advocating for accurate dosing, proper treatment, and timely care should be met with hostility or dismissal. Advocacy should never result in escalation or obstruction. There was multiple obstruction caused by management staff, Jessica, and Nate. Additionally, I formally requested a complete copy of my dog's medical records in August and am still waiting to be notified that they are ready for pickup. In my opinion, the handling of this situation reflects broader concerns involving management -- including Jessica and Nathan -- as well as Dr. H, Dr. B, and ALL other veterinary partners associated with the practice. I have serious concerns regarding duty of care, continuity of treatment, and the way I was treated after raising legitimate medical concerns Because certain matters are currently being pursued through appropriate channels, I am limited in the additional details I can publicly share at this time. However, I strongly encourage pet owners to carefully consider their options and ensure they feel respected, heard, and supported when seeking care for their animals. Pets are family. They deserve competent, coordinated, and compassionate care -- and their owners deserve professionalism when advocating for them. read more

They don't care about your pets just your money. Our dog, a patient for 3 years, had some worrying symptoms so we called them. They refused to consult with us over the phone regarding our dogs symptoms because we did not do last years annual with them. read more

They are the best! I have other vet places a lot closer but they are definitely worth the extra 15 minutes of driving for me!! My dog has been seen by Dr. Pedro, Dr. Horowitz, Dr. Brody , and Dr. Christiansen. I always leave feeling at ease and impressed by how much they each exhibit tremendous amounts of patience, compassion, thoroughness, and insightfulness. Outstanding vet. Dr. Brody is compassionate and thorough. We joined after our former vet abruptly closed in 2020. Since then, our English Bulldog has received great care. It is a busy practice- for a reason. They are excellent. We have never had to wait to be seen. Desk staff is efficient and kind. I have taken our family dog Rym, a golden retriever, for over thirteen and a half years to Murray Hill Vet and they have always been caring, accommodating just like any long time family doctor. Unfortunately, Rym had to be put down on Monday, August 8th, and Murray Hill Vet was at its very best and caring during this difficult time. I thought Rym's back hips and stomach were the issue, but when I called and explained her condition, I was told to come in as soon as possible. Dr Charney and Mark the medical technician treated Rym with tenderness and care the entire time. After an examine and x-ray, the diagnosis from Dr Charney was direct and honest, explaining all the options. I was able to stay with Rym throughout, and she was given a dignified and caring end. Dr. McComas is really thorough and kind. She took her time to really understand what was going on with our dog both physically and mentally. All the doctors at Murray Hill are incredible but Dr. McComas has a special place in our heart for figuring out what was wrong with our boy so quickly. Since Covid this place has been declining rapidly and the customer service and wait times are absolutely insane. Not to mention the astronomical prices they charge for a 10 minute visit. Show up 10-20 minutes prior to an appointment and then wait 30-60 minutes for anyone to come out. I rarely write poor reviews on any business but this is just absurd. read more

I read some really terrible reviews here, to which I am very surprised! It's not surprising that people were disappointed during Covid (still around) but their protocols were in place for a reason and they did the best they could during unprecedented times. I too had to bring my cat and had to wait outside but it is what it is! The doctor was more than professional and took her time to thoroughly explain things! Next...have you met Shirley?? She is a shining star and it one of the nicest and compassionate people I have ever met! She was able to work some magic with Dr. Darby and get my very sick cat in within an hour, just yesterday! I know that's rare but I thought it was worth mentioning! All in all, I have not had anything but great experiences here! I used to love this place, but I guess as the business has grown the service has dwindled. Doctors are nice enough, though it can be difficult to see the same dr twice and they never remember you (or your pet) from one visit to the next. We even had doctors (yes, more than one) who overlooked a growing tumor on our dog and, when I finally pointed it out to them, was told it was benign (it wasn't, and we got it taken care of at Summit Dog and Cat Hospital). What's most disappointing about Murray Hill Vets, and what prompted me to switch clinics, is their pricing. For example: vet visit with one or two vaccinations at Murray Hill $180-200+. Same visit at Union Animal Hospital a mere 15 minutes away, $90-$110. Perhaps they use their zip code to justify their outrageous prices? Take the time to get outside the privileged bubble and you'll find exceptional animal care for a fraction of the cost. read more

My multiple encounters with the receptionists have been a disaster Honestly. I love the vets and Dr.Brody is great with my dog, but I've been on hold for an average of 30 minutes to an hour for a two minute conversation. Also, as I was waiting in the parking lot for my appointment, they called me from a different line and CANCELLED MY APPOINTMENT. We have never encountered a more unprofessional and rude office staff. My wife had arrived 10 minutes early for an appointment and waited outside to call the office to have our pet picked up per their Covid protocol. The office staff receptionist, Julie, displayed what is probably the rudest and most unprofessional interaction we have ever experienced about the wait time. Instead of simply listening to understand that my wife had been there for 20 minutes(10 min early and 10 min on hold), she immediately accused her of lying of the wait time saying she had only put her on hold for 3 minutes and had the most incredibly unprofessional attitude. Called to complain to the office manager who of course never called back. Probably one of the worst run and managed veterinary offices to which we have EVER been. We will never return here again. read more

Our Cat was in "distress" on Wednesday (day before Thanksgiving) and we called MHV requesting an EMERGENCY visit. My wife was told that there were no appointments available. MHV then returned a call to my cell phone and I was told the same information. I asked for alternative Vets and it was recommended that we take the Cat to FAIRFIELD Emergency Care. Note, that the last time (about 5 years ago) our Cat had and emergency while were on vacation. MHV told our Daughter that our cat would be DEAD in 3 hours without treatment. Many - Many hundreds of dollars were paid for that visit. MHV has been our Pet Vet for over 20 years !!!!!! WELL - We found a more responsible Veterinary Office and they saw our cat within the hour. I cannot say enough about our incredibly kind, compassionate, knowledgeable vet at Murray Hill, Dr Eric Christensen. He took care of our dog for nearly fifteen years and always went above and beyond, including calling us after hours frequently to discuss options and explain our dog's condition. He is totally up front about costs and testing and leaves decisions up to you. He is the definition of a true animal lover and I am so grateful we found him so many years ago. In addition, I think the practice has done an awesome job handling business during this pandemic. Techs have always been nice and respectful and if I had to wait a little longer for quality service for my "furry family member" it was totally worth it. read more

We took our cats here for ten years and were very pleased by our experience with the vets and their care of our girls. Dr. Flora has been wonderful to work with over the years, and Dr. Bourassa was there for one of the saddest moments of my life - when it was time to put down my cat that I had for 18 years. My husband and I have recently moved our of state and I know it will be difficult to find a vet clinic that is this good. read more

I recently had to phone Murray Hill in regards to a vet reference for a family that applied to adopt a dog through a local rescue. While I have never taken my dog there, I wish I lived closer so I could. Daniel whom I assume works at the front desk couldn't have been more helpful and went above and beyond to help me with what I needed. I don't usually write reviews, but I had a wonderful experience at Murray Hill Veterinary. My cat was very sick so I had to take him in multiple times in the past few weeks. I saw three different doctors and each doctor was very thorough and patient. They each explained the issue to me and I really trust them. The office is clean and professional. Overcrowded in the waiting room with dogs, never seen anything like it. Not accommodating at all in regards to putting my dog in a room when he is clearly getting too excited from the six other dogs in the waiting area. Honestly I was completely ignored. Also why have seating directly by the door? I felt as if the vet and vet tech were not listening to my concerns. I left there feeling my time was completely wasted and now will to pay again to go elsewhere. DO NOT GO HERE. This veterinary practice has just about collapsed since the Covid pandemic. Customers are treated terribly (not to mention their pets!) - they will not allow clients to enter the building with their pets to meet with the vet or any staff, but force them to wait out in their cars with their pets and only allow a very brief consultation with the vet over their mobile phones (they won't even do FaceTime). And this nearly two years after the pandemic started, with the rates in NJ among the lowest in the nation and vaccination rates also very high. It is absurd and unnecessary the way they treat customers, there is no excuse...they could allow one or two masked, socially-distancing clients with their pets into the building so as to meet face-to-face with a vet or staff instead of their present restrictions. I can see how this protocol may have been necessary in the spring of 2020 or even as late as the early summer of this year, but this is ridiculous. Not only that, but they have wrecked my cat's emotional/psychological health by shaving almost all his fur over due to some severe matting. Now I don't know what I'm going to do or where I'm going to go. I'm disgusted. I would not be surprised to see this practice permanently shut down in the near future. They once were quite good. It's going to take quite a bit of work on their part to rebuild their reputation. read more

Drs. Charney and Zhang and whole the staff at Murray Hill Vet are wonderful. They genuinely love my dogs, who both have special needs, and are knowledgeable and thoughtful in solving their health issues and making sure they are happy and healthy. They take whatever time is necessary, are pleased to answer all your questions, and are willing to open up in the middle of the night when you need them for an emergency without question or complaint. Dr. Charney found a heart murmur that previous vets had missed with my older dog and we have been nothing but pleased since we switched to Murray Hill Vet about 15 years ago. I cannot recommend Drs. Charney, Zhang, or their practice highly enough. read more

I brought my dog here on 2/12 for her annual vaccines which included her DAPPL, Bordatella, Lymes (which was a split vaccine) ETC in which my mother in law took her to that initial appointment. I got a call on 3/12 from the receptionist saying that I need to schedule a follow up appointment for my dog to get her booster for the Lymes vaccine. The voicemail that I got did not say I needed to come in by a certain time / date in order to still be able to get the booster nor was it mentioned when I had called back the receptionist that it was needed to be scheduled by a certain date. I originally had her appointment scheduled for either last week of March or 1st week of April but had to keep pushing it back to now 4/14 due to my work schedule and not being able to come during the weekdays during the 12-2 time slots they allot for this. So they let me make the appointment for 4/14 I got there and was told that I was too late to get her booster vaccine and was told I was made aware of having to get it within 6 weeks after her initial vaccine. I was 100% not made aware, it wasn't listed on any of the paperwork I got from her initial appointment or within the voicemail I got nor during any of my conversations within the receptionist otherwise what would be the point of them letting me schedule an appointment to get this booster on this date if it was too late. Super frusturated because if I knew I had to get it by a certain date I would have made sure I did it by that date so now both my time and money have been wasted. I know things like this happen but highly recommend for a little more transparency when it comes to these things. This is the 1st review I have ever written for a place of business and I will not be returning because of this incident. read more

I have been a client of Murray Hill Vet for 28 years with two dogs that passed at 14 years. Everyone at the practice was skilled and thorough in caring for my pets from the receptionist to the techs to the Doctors and during Covid even the runners that service you as you wait in your car for your pet, meds or food orders. During the pandemic it was an extra level of anxiousness to wait in the car and not be with your pet however the veterinarians all took their time to explain and answer all questions - they never rushed the communications. The vet that was taking care of my dog at the end of her life was so helpful to ensure the decisions needed were in the best interest of our beloved dog and Dr Christensen went above and beyond in his communication, compassion and options. Ultimately he was there at the end and we were able to go into the facility to say good bye. He was so supportive and even wrote us a hand written note after. Over 16 years before Dr Darby took the same care as we said good bye to another dog. I would 1000% recommend Murray Hill Vet as they have taken such high quality care of our dog family members over 28 years! read more

Dr. Charney came highly recommend by a friend of ours so when we got a 12 week old puppy we brought him here. The care has been exceptional overall but what leads me to write this review is my emergency tonight with my puppy. He swallowed some small rocks on our walk, I tried to fish them out but I was too late. I didn't know what to do so I called the vet right away. Dr. Charney called me back almost immediately and instructed me on what to do and how to induce vomiting. It worked like a charm and my puppy threw up 4 small rocks! I'm so grateful that I don't have to go to the vet hospital tonight. This practice is the best thank you so much!!! read more

Dr. Charney was great to my dog even though we had a small time together because we found him at the end of my dog's road they were amazing. Hands down one of the best places I have taken my dog. Best veterinary clinic. Dr Susan Zhang is fantastic. She is a great diagnostician, very empathetic, caring and thorough. She looked after my 16 year old cat who was suffering from chronic kidney failure. Every day was a new challenge and it was a truly heartbreaking time. Dr Zhang was absolutely devoted to keeping my cat as stable as she could and even when we reached the end point, she put her to sleep with so much professionalism and kindness. You really cannot find a more dedicated doctor than her. I have also made appointments with other doctors like Dr Darby, Dr Hancock and Dr Charney for routine vaccinations etc and they're very good too. The vet technicians also do a great job. read more

The movie, Must Love Dogs, could have easily been written by me. I've never had a dog before in my life yet found myself learning to raise a puppy while I was still in college. After moving back home I knew I had to find a vet and a good one. Puppies/Dogs get into all kinds of things and having a vet close by is always a plus. I think I've been coming here for around 6 years, maybe more. I've tried three of the Dr's here at some point or another and to be honest, I really liked them all. I did however, pick one that I adore and have stuck with them consistently. They are a well run, clean and friendly practice. They are patient with pets ( and their anxious whimpers or tinkles of nerves ) and are really great with reminding you of appointments or upcoming vaccinations by mail and phone. I love knowing my Dr remembers my dog and me for that matter and each visit has felt very personal. Even the assistance that come in to calm and hold my dog during shots and nail cuttings are gently and kind. I came once for an emergency visit and was accomodated immediately once I explained my situation on the phone. Another thing I really love and appreciate about this practice and my dogs doctor is, they are never in a rush to perform any surgery or expensive procedure if they don't feel it's absolutely necessary. Most of the doctors and staff have their own pet or pets and it just feels nice knowing they approach your visit with a bit of empathy and compassion because of it. read more

The front staff were extremely nice; this is the only reason for earning one star. However, the vet I saw was not good. She was arrogant and misdiagnosed my sweet pup. Even after I told the vet all the symptoms my dog was having (not eating, depression, vomiting, barely moving), she insisted that my dog was just suffering from a bad back (although my dog did not yelp or make any noise when the vet touched her back). The vet made me feel like I was being silly for being so worried about my dog. Didn't even THINK of taking a blood test at that time. Told me to wait to see if the pain pills take effect; if not, then come back in a few days for a blood test. Went for a second opinion the next day (different vet); that vet took blood. The results showing elevated liver levels and other issues. My sweet girl was immediately put on antibiotics. But, it was too late. 5 days after the vet at Murray Hill was certain my dog was just suffering from a back strain, I had to say good bye to her - suspected leptospirosis took my sweet thing. TWO weeks after that, I got a sympathy card - the vet had the nerve to write that she "was surprised how quickly" my dog went downhill. If my sweet, energetic, full of life pup had been on antibiotics those 2 extra days, perhaps she'd be alive today. I WILL NEVER TAKE MY DOGS BACK TO THIS VETERINARY CLINIC EVERY AGAIN. read more
