I can't thank Dr. Fuerst enough! My dog had a cyst on her tail that kept rupturing. I took her to Dr. Fuerst as a 2nd opinion and he was very confident that he could remove it with no issue and not put her tail in danger of loss. We are three weeks post-op and she's all healed up and doing great. Thank you to all involved and Boulevard Vet! read more

Never go there. My kitten was fixed there and almost died from internal bleeding. They didn't even call me to report her condition. I called to see when I could pick her up and they told me to take her to the emergency vet in Iselin. Thankfully after a couple days and a ton of $$$ she was saved. Boulevard Vet never even contacted me to see if she was ok. read more

We have a deep appreciation for the veterinarians and technicians at BVC. We started visiting them nearly twenty years ago after a close family friend, who runs a pet rescue, recommended their services. They have taken excellent care of the four dogs we've brought in over the years, and they were especially compassionate when we had to say goodbye to two of them due to cancer. read more

first off I went there many times (precovid too)- not just once and took more than one animal- my own and my parents' dog. I had a bad vibe with them from the start and should have listened. -rushed visits- really rushed Doctors who seem to want to bank over give actually care to animals or proper information to paying pet parents. - no bed side manner at all for all the Vets and most the staff. we are talking no bed side matter IN THE LEAST. -careless handling of my animal. to the point I didn't want them left alone with her. - incompetent information told to me by the vet, then the vet telling me to wait to talk to another vet for full scope leaving me to worry (vet made it seem like she had cancer) over nothing for days. the results were inconclusive and the vet rushed telling me things AGAIN and worded such in a way that focused on the was worst case scenario and never even mentioned it also could be nothing. I waited 5 days of thinking she may have cancer to find out it may also be nothing at all. no apologies from them for their inconsideration. -pushing for pricey unnecessary and frankly dangerous procedures (for the could be nothing test results) that could risk the life (and at least lower the quality of life for a period) of my animal when the probability it is nothing is most likely and at her age it should be monitored not cut out. -even before quarantine they had weird rules that made it so staff were questionably alone with my dog. again I did not like their handling of her so it was worriesome (she is blind/rescue)- but also having worked with numerous vets there were times taking her to the back room without me was literally not necessary which made it more questionable. -staff overdramatizes my use of cursing - which was not used derogatory and only used after waiting five days to find out the cancer scare was bullshit. curses are just words sometimes, but the staff lied and said the cursing was more of a "you shit head" instead of what it actually was which was a "this is shit- why would the doctor tell me that when it wasn't true". cursing without threatening anyone is a first amendment right by the way. I also apologized for my tone not my word choices cause the receptionist was not the incompetent vet but then if she lied about the ordeal her incompetence is there too. -gas lit conversation where me cursing in a sentence is condemned instead of the incompetence of Doctor which left me an entire weekend wondering if my dog had cancer when it was really nothing much to worry about- only a monitoring issue. -travel vaccines given when unnecessary even tho the specific travel vaccine staffer was meant to know this- I had to pay for half this cost still and my dog got unnecessary vaccine. -most the staff was not genuine, not just with me but with my dog. hating people is one thing but not loving dogs? that is problems and especially for a vet office. again questionable handling of my dog- my 7 pound blind toothless fluff of a rescue creature. read more

The vet tech was rude about my dog's records, insisting on yearly rabies shots despite our vet's recommendation for a two-year interval. Waited 50 minutes for the vet, who spent only 5 minutes on the exam (I was the last and only client there) then wanted to take my scared dog to another room for bloodwork refusing me to accompany them. Later, they claimed my dog had fleas, but I found it suspicious as the flea dirt was on one area of my dog's white coat. Unbeknownst to them, I have three other dogs at home who are flea-free, it seemed like an attempt to overcharge. I refused to pay the total amount after they added unnecessary charges (always ask for an itemized bill). Checked with two other vets and the grooming place I take my dogs, and my dogs were confirmed flea-free.... read more

Took my cat in for a annual check up and was made to put on a mask. I gladly put on a mask another customer then enters without a mask was not told to put on a mask. We have taken our dog here for the past three years almost, and pre-covid we never had an issue. Place was clean, Vets were warm and welcoming to our pup, and things always ran smoothly. Until today. Would not recommend using this place if you are looking for a Vet with bedside manner. We took our pup in for a follow up visit from a previous health issue he was having, and the way the doctor read us the X-rays was extremely rude and lacked empathy and just plain kindness. She literally said, "This looks pretty bad to me, I'm surprised you think these x-rays are better than last weeks, because to me it looks like cancer. Take him to a specialist." I'm sure there's no easy way to tell a family that scenario, but it could have been done in a much nicer, empathetic tone. It was as if she did not want to be there, and was ready for her shift to be over. I didn't even see her greet or acknowledge our pup other than when she was checking him out. Extremely disappointed with this, and will be looking elsewhere. read more

I just want to say thank you to the Drs and the staff. My Gemma has been a patient since she was a puppy. She was a frequent flyer because she had Cushing and Diabetes. She passed away suddenly last week. We rushed her to the emergency vet, but she was gone.. Boulevard vet saw my post on social media and they sent me a sympathy card. The doctors and staff all signed a personal note about Gemma. It was very special and I appreciated their words of kindness! Thank you! Holly Pecina read more

We have taken 3 pets to Boulevard Vet and every time have felt like we as re part of a family. We make the trip from Edison, and while not incredibly far, are most certainly passing many offices along the way. I initially received the recommendation from vet staff at another location due to the complex nature of our pet's needs. You can tell that the staff all loves animals. They also have ease of appointment making, which is a plus. They consistently treat us with great care, compassion and honesty. As anyone with a pet will attest to, sometimes the industry takes advantage of our wallets, but Boulevard Vet has ALWAYS left us feeling as though we have been fairly charged! We love them and would/do recommend them to anyone in need of a vet! While all the vets are great, Dr. Fuerst is one of the most down to earth vets I have every met, on top of being so knowledgable and kind. But truly, all of the staff there is wonderful. read more

I've been bringing my dog here for the past year and sounds very silly but the only reason I started bringing him (he was a new puppy) here was because it made me too sad to bring him to the vet I used to take my other dog before she passed. Ever since I started coming, I always felt like the receptionists had a bit of an attitude when they would speak to me on the phone and the doctor always had a weird attitude (like I was annoying him if I asked questions). We started coming here during the pandemic so I've never been inside until today but I put up with their weird attitudes because my pup was always happy when he would leave the office so I thought oh well he's fine here. Also, they always always keep you waiting super long but again it never bothered me that much until today. I waited literally 50 minutes until they even brought us inside to the exam room. My dog really ran out of patience by this point and was just continuously barking and whining in there and we had to wait another 20 minutes until the doctor came in to "examine him". The whole thing took 90 seconds and he charged us $52 for the exam alone LOL. What really pissed me off was he came right in and didn't even acknowledge my dog which was very odd to me. Wouldn't it be odd if a pediatrician was giving your baby a shot and didn't communicate to or acknowledge the baby at all? Same with a vet, very weird that he didn't say hi or try to pet my dog or anything. My dog actually looked afraid when the doctor came in and backed up. He continued to bark and whine and couldn't really hear the doctor and I said "sorry, as we've been waiting a rather long time he doesn't have much patience left" and the doctor didn't apologize for the wait. The entire time, no one who worked there acknowledged how long we had to wait! He called my dog "she" the whole time (not that I take it personally but it's weird that a doctor would call a dog by the wrong gender LOL). When he was going to administer his booster shots, he started elevating the exam table before my dog even had all four feet on the table and he almost frickin fell off! Basically, this was my last time that I'll ever go here and I'm going to either go back to my previous vet or find a new one. If the vet wants to call my dog a she and make me waste over an hour of my life, I'll go to a friendly vet at least! read more

We've been taking our dogs here since we moved to town in 2008. We've had our dogs "fixed" and put to sleep by this vet and seen them in between. There is little to no turnover with the vets which is a good sign. The vet techs are always pleasant and friendly. They will fit you in for an appointment at the last minute if you have an issue. The wait can be long at times but some dogs need more attention than others. Each of our golden retrievers over the years have needed surgery and we were completely confident and never had an issue afterwards. Parking is a chore in that area since they are on a busy road and across from a school. There are plenty of other options in the area but we are very satisfied here. Are the prices high? I don't know because I haven't shopped around. I've been told there is a more expensive option in Westfield. read more

We took our cat, Grania, to Boulevard Veterinary Clinic in Kenilworth, NJ, to have a dime-sized growth removed from her shoulder. We got her back that night with a gruesome-looking four-inch slash on her back and a forepaw that had swelled up to what looked like double its normal size because Boulevard hadn't bothered to remove a tourniquet. Two nights later Grania was dead. We thought were were taking Grania in for a simple procedure, and Boulevard did nothing to indicate it was anything more complicated. We were never advised of possible complications or given any indication the size or scope of the procedure would go beyond removal of the small growth. After the procedure, Boulevard pooh-poohed our concerns initially. When Grania began bleeding steadily the next day, they said to bring her in. Then they kept us waiting, first in the waiting room, then in an examination room. We had to shout "Help! Help! Bleeding cat in here - can anybody help?" to get attention from a vet. Boulevard Veterinary kept Grania overnight for observation. When we called the next morning, they advised us she might need a blood transfusion. They called us in the afternoon and said Grania was in serious shape. They had not given her a transfusion. They said we might want to take her to a 24-hour veterinary hospital where she could be under observation and care through the night because Boulevard is not staffed overnight (we were not informed the previous day, when Boulevard told us to leave Grania overnight for observation, that she would spend her final night alone and bleeding, with neither observation nor care). We picked Grania up and sped to Red Bank Veterinary Hospital, which Boulevard promised to inform that we were coming. Grania went into respiratory arrest shortly after we arrived. Despite an emergency transfusion and every effort by the Red Bank staff, she died. No one we talked to at Red Bank, incidentally, had heard anything from anyone at Boulevard Veterinary Clinic about Grania. Boulevard had cared for Grania for 10 years, and had cared for our previous cat before that. We trusted them. We should have been a lot more vigilant, and we'll always feel bad we weren't. read more

Our family has been going to Boulevard Vet for almost 2 years. Both cat and dog have been treated here. I never had any issue with the vets or their staff. I just didn't have any type of connection with any of them. We kept going there because it was convenient. Now we have to switch because of their poor behavior. They are overpriced (you can get the same treatment for half the price at other vet clinics), the vet assistants are RUDE, and the vets spend only a few minutes with your pet. They're not the most personable vets, so don't expect to talk very much with them. I recently took my pet here for an annual visit. A particular vet assistant (the older one with frizzy, reddish hair) was rude and very unapologetic when she blamed my dog (who has NEVER bitten any person, dog or cat) for biting another dog when they started barking at each other. She immediately yelled at me and told everyone that my dog bit the other. NOT TRUE. There was no blood or puncture wounds. She also screamed at me to go behind the reception desk. I do not appreciate being treated like this, especially after my dog was not the aggressor. Also, we spend lots of money here. I expect to be treated with some level of respect. We will NOT be returning because of this incident and this unprofessional woman. Good luck if you encounter her. I hope the owners Feurst and Markowitz realize they have a rude vet assistant who is not helping them with their business. read more

I love Boulevard Vet Clinic. They're local to me, so it's an easy trip. I've been with them for the past 2-3 years and they have taken such good care of us. I don't care what these other reviews say, the team there is great. They adore my cat, treat her with the love that you would want a pet to be treated with. Whether it's for just a visit, or I'm boarding my cat for a few days or a week or so, I trust this clinic to take excellent care of her. Taking a few minutes to HIGHLY recommend this vet clinic. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING CARE!!! We've brought in our two cats, Angel and Hunter, right from the streets, and they guided us on how to treat our babies. One is still in the process! This place was ok for the price but after today we will not be bringing our cat back. The vet today was extremely rude and had no patience. Off the bat he had a terrible attitude and was rude to my husband and said we should stop bringing our cat in for her monthly visit to get her anal glands extracted. The reason for this? Because they can't deal with my cat's temperament. As a vet their job is to deal with animals no matter how patient or impatient they may be. Instead he told my husband we should wait until her anal glands are full or ERUPTED. Why would any vet recommend someone to let their pet's glands erupt which would require surgery by the way? I would never wait until my pet is in pain where they can't even poop to take them to get treated at a place where they don't even care about her. I am very disappointed in the service received today and wonder what went on behind closed doors when they didn't allow anyone inside during COVID. The last time I went I waited 45 minutes - I understand it's busy but this is unacceptable. One thing I will not stand for is someone who doesn't want to do their job and has an attitude - especially when it comes to my pet who is basically my child. If you want someone who handles your pets with care and has their best interest at heart, please go somewhere else. read more

Extremely happy with Dr. Markowitz and the staff, right down to the front desk. The girls at the front desk absolutely love animals, as they visit with my dog everytime we take him in. Dr. Markowitz is gentle and thorough and discusses every option of care and treatment with us before making a decision. I am very happy to see they are now open 7 days a week. I can't stress enough how good this Veterinary Clinic is. ( A few years back I took my other dog to another vet in another town and what was supposed to be routine shots went bad...they killed my dog). Dr. Markowitz and his staff are very competent and very well qualified to treat animals. Dr. Markowitz is also an Avian Vet - he treats birds and parrots - nice to know since there are not many in this area and he's good at that too - especially in treating my parrot for a cracked beak. read more

I've been taking my dog here for the last 5 years. It was my first dog so I was inexperienced in pricing and vets. Just today, when my dog needed to have a cyst removed, I realized I had to find another vet. Everytime I went to this place I got a different Dr. None of which I liked. The prices were ridiculous. If a typical exam cost more than it cost me to go to the Dr, something is very wrong. A simple removal of a cyst and teeth cleaning at this place is going to cost you 757-928. That is insane. For the longest time I wanted to find another vet. This was the icing on the cake.. I am taking my business and my beloved dog elsewhere. I figured I know enough people that someone can recommend another vet. Is shouldn't cost 65 for an exam even if the people there are nice.. read more

I've been there several times since i got my puppy. the puppy had his 2nd shots and everything that followed at this vet. they are very nice and i liked them a lot at first, but after dealing with them several times since that first visit i have realized that not only are they a rip off, they will try to charge you multiple times for the same thing. first example. when i had him in for the initial vet visit and 2nd round of puppy shots, they said a stool sample was included with the initial visit and gave me a container for the stool. when i brought the stool sample back on my next visit, the front desk, and front office manager said they charge $40 for lab fee and that lab fee isn't included in that first visit. i paid the $40. when i went back for another visit, i questioned the vet about this. she told me that everything in regards to the stool sample was included. i told her that they charged me $40 for it. her response was that i wasn't supposed to be charged. i asked for my money back, and never got it. nor was i given a straight answer when i asked for it. second example. my puppy was getting these tiny red dots all over his legs and belly that would bleed from him scratching them. i called and made an appointment to see vet. i was charged for a visit, as expected. when the vet saw my pup she scrapped his skin looking for parasites and test results came back clean. i was told it was a form of a rash that puppies get and was given an antibiotic, which i was also charged for as expected. a month later i called and said the spots haven't gone away and was told to come back in. when i came back in with the pup, they charged me for another visit, scrapped the skin to check for parasites (test came back clean), and put the pup back on antibiotics for a longer period of time, which they also charged me for. as stated in example one, i brought a stool sample in. a couple weeks later i thought that maybe my puppy still had worms and i called the office, asked to speak with a vet, and told him about the possibility of him still having worms. vet said that a follow up visit was free of charge and that i'd only have to pay for the medication. this was reasonable and made sense, but made me ask why i was charged for a second, or follow up, visit when i came back in because of the red spot/rash my pup had that didn't go away after the initial visit and end of prescribed medicine that was given. he said that i should not have been charged. i was never given a penny back when i asked the front dest for my money back. third example. getting back to the rash. needless to say, the spots, or rash, never went away. i never went back in because i was skeptical about their procedures and diagnostics. after a few more weeks of my pup still having these spots, which started bleeding again, i asked a random lady that i was talking to at a pet store (not an employee) and she immediately, without hesitation or doubt, stated that my dog had a food allergy soon as she saw the spots. i took that into consideration and asked someone that worked there and they said the same thing. i did some research and read the same exact thing on the internet when i compared pics online to the spots my dog had. i was back at the store buying a few things and saw a lady that represented one of the food brands and asked her about the spots, she too said it was food allergies. a week ago i was at the animal clinic in hillside getting my dog neutered and when picking up my dog, the vet assistant brought these spots to my attention stating that they were food allergies and instructed me to change food to a grain free product. i did this and within a week, the spots started to disappear, they are almost gone and it's only been one week. i'm bring this up because i have to wonder why so many people, random pet owners, random pet store employees, and a vet assistant had all immediately stated with 100% confidence that my dog had a food allergy causing these spots when 2 vets at boulevard vet, who have extensive schooling and years as vets, didn't know what a common person knew. it seems that they must've known but made money in their improper diagnostic by charging me for multiple visits and the medication. they would've made no money by telling me to change his diet. it's very odd that a professional doesn't know something so many common, less educated people knew. i should be given a refund for the 2 prescriptions i paid for as well. read more

I trust Dr. Gray and Dr. Huth to care for my dog. My dog was extremely sick as a puppy with a horrible case of Demodex and, as a result, secondary infections. He was seen by Dr. Huth. She was great with him and provided me with a printed information about his condition. She is also aware that expense is an issue for some people and offers quality alternatives. Both Dr. Gray and Dr. Huth are good with people as well as animals. We took our 13 year old Shit Tzu to Boulevard Veterinary Clinic to have ONLY three teeth that were already lose and bothering her a lot removed. When we picked her up that evening, we were informed that instead of three, the vet decided to removed 8 teeth in total, without consulting us first. No call, no warning that this was going to happen. She just went ahead and did it! Our dog was old and suffered from a recently discovered heart murmur. So, this trauma of removing almost every tooth in her mouth was traumatizing to her. When we brought her home she was not responsive and in a state a shock. Saturday, she slept all day, breathing heavily, and we figured it was from the pain in her mouth. On Sunday night we rushed her to the emergency room where we were informed that her lungs were filled with fluids and her heart was weak. Sadly, by Monday afternoon after receiving overnight treatments, our dog died. My complaint is against the female Vet (L.A.) who handle the oral procedure on our poor dog. She carelessly butchered our baby, without taking into consideration that she was dealing with an aged delicate dog. That maybe she wouldn't handle the removal of 8 teeth at one, or the extreme pain that came after. We are devastated and heart broken! Please, always get the facts, before these Vets gets their hands on your beloved animals. It seems that the only thing they REALLY care about at BVC is the money they charge, which in my opinion is very pricey. Nothing will bring our beloved dog back. And I blame it on the Veterinarian for her negligence. read more

I joined this site just to review these people. We have been going here for years for our two cats, and it was fine as long as nothing went wrong. Then one cat got diabetes and we had to obtain insulin and needles from here once a month and bring him in for check ups. What a nightmare. Just picking up a box of needles was a complete fiasco. The front desk is the most unorganized mess I've ever seen and will give you conflicting information. If you've got a question about something, don't expect to get it answered. They'll cut you off and send you on your way. The vets were not at all thorough and would make you feel guilty for not wanting to drop $800 on a teeth cleaning for your cat when you yourself don't even have health insurance. The final straw came when we finally switched to another vet the next town over and discovered that tiny bottle of insulin we were buying every month was RIDICULOUSLY over priced; we paid $112 a bottle when a bottle 2Xs the size should be $45!!!!!!! Not to mention, he's got a thyroid problem they conveniently missed in his bloodwork. If you want to get ripped off and ignored, by all means come here. For the rest of us, find yourself another vet. read more

This is a long overdue review. I used this clinic for many years. Even when I moved out of the area, I would drive 45 minutes just to see Dr. Fuerst. He is wonderful. The entire staff is helpful, kind, friendly and they seem to really care about the animals in their clinic. My cat had a chronic condition and I used to visit them quite often. As soon as I would walk into the clinic they would know who I was and would ask me how my cat was doing. Sadly, my cat has now passed away. Dr. Fuerst went above and beyond in trying to help me find a treatment for him. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Fuerst and the clinic staff for all they did for my Homer and also for my other cats through the years.
