Duane watched over our male cat for a week while we were gone. He takes great care to make sure things are in order, food and water are at good levels. Our cat is extremely shy and runs away scared when strangers visit and we assumed he wouldn't make an exception for Duane on that matter. However, we were very excited to receive photos from Duane with the cat cautiously approaching him and studying him - eventually getting close enough to receive a pet. Usually when we return from a trip we find the cat hiding under the bed, but this time, after Duane had visited him for a week, we found him atop the cat tree greeting us with a casual meow! read more

I wish I had found Duane years before I did. Our old tortoiseshell Emma really loved Duane. Emma loved everyone. But I did not love our previous hired cat sitters as much as him. Duane sent photos and stories and emails when he was with Emma. I never had to check in with him to make sure all was well; he knew the importance of initiating that contact so I didn't have to. From the first time I met him, I knew he really cared about cats. Yesterday, I received a call from Duane asking if he could come over to drop something off for us. He knew Emma had been sick, and he asked if she had died. I said yes, she died, four weeks ago. Diane said he wanted to give us something in memory of her. He brought us photos he had taken of Emma, and had framed one of them. It brought me to tears. You're awesome, Duane. Thank you for caring for our sweet Emma. -Megan (Tommy), JD, and Ellis read more

I highly recommend Duane for cat sitting! He responded quickly to my email request for cat sitting services and was very personable when he came over for a meet & greet before I left on my trip. My cat is on an all wet food diet and he brought over a time release feeder that has an ice pack so Casper's food wouldn't dry out between feedings. So awesome! Duane sent me daily email updates which included photos of Casper, such a nice bonus. I will definitely use his services again - thanks Duane! read more

Adventures in Sitting Kitties - Pet Sitting Near Me

Honestly, I don't understand how this guy can have a score this high. We hired him twice, I mean we tried. First time, everything was ok. Then we moved from Capitol Hill to Downtown and I asked him if he was ok with coming in our neighborhood offering extra money. He said yes. We were supposed to leave for our Christmas vacation. It was almost time to leave, and I wasn't hearing anything from him, so I asked him to meet so I could give him the keys... and he ditched us. AT the last moment. Just a few days before the holidays. IN DECEMBER. AND EVERYONE KNOW IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ANOTHER PET SITTER AT THAT POINT. And he wasn't even gonna say anything! He said he was afraid it could have been snowed in those days. If it snows, you can simply take a bus or uber. Or at least you SHOULD REACH OUT and said you changed your mind. We were going to cancel our trip, since all of our friends were going to be out of town, thank God, a coworker of my husband offered to help and take care of our cats. read more

I hired Duane to watch my four cats for four days while I was out of town for a work trip. It was my first time needing a sitter for my cats and I was nervous about leaving them for so long with a stranger. But I felt at ease when Duane sent me updates everyday with a summary of his time with the cats along with their pictures. My cats can be very shy at first so I was surprised that they warmed up to Duane only after a visit or two. I can tell he is very patient and kind to them. When I came back, the litter box was clean, the house did not smell, and the water bowl was still full with more than enough water for all four cats. I recommend Duane for your catsitting needs. He is always quick to communicate through texts/emails. I will definitely be using his service again in the future! read more

Duane is exceptional!! He is extremely reliable and knows an incredible amount about cats, in addition to having the seemingly magical ability to be liked quite quickly by cats. He's done a great job taking care of our challenging senior cat that takes twice daily medications - she really warmed up to him and was in great spirits when we returned. The excellent photos and detailed daily reports were awesome to have as well and kept us at ease. I would strongly recommend Duane's cat sitting services! read more

After my husband's brother left my cat in our house with the windows closed in the summer heat of Kansas and we returned to find a bloated and glassy-eyed sweltering kitty, we decided to look into pet sitters when we travel. When we arrived in Seattle, we hooked up with one pet sitter who seemed to be looking around our house for things she could criticize: Why were my cats eating pet food with meat in it? Because I'm a vegetarian; they're not. Why do I keep the windows open--they could fall out? Because it's summertime in Seattle, I care about the environment & refuse to get an air conditioner, and I like fresh air. Why do I have plants around that they could eat? I've thought about this a lot. They don't eat my plants because they eat wheat grass instead. I believe that she took great care of our cats, but she rubbed me the wrong way. Then, we found Duane on the internet at Adventures in Sitting Kitties at www.sittingkitties.com. I'll admit, I was hesitant to 1) trust a person who has 6 cats and writes quirky little stories about them and 2) give a man I didn't really know a key to my apartment. But, upon meeting him, all of my worries disappeared. Duane brought toys for "the boys" (as he calls them) and immediately began getting to know them when he walked in the door. His prices are very reasonable and he is reliable. We have traveled many places with no worries because, when we return, our cats are not very interested in seeing us. They much prefer to have Duane walking through the door and are obviously disappointed when "we" are not "he"! He'll even water your plants, bring in your mail, and stay overnight if needed. That's service. Wow. A man who loves cats and has six of his own. Duane's a true cat person . . . The comedian, Demetri Martin, might question that statement! http://www.milkandcookies.com/link/77237/detail/ Or would he? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZUxCyAj9aE read more

I cannot believe I never wrote a review! Thankfully a friend reminded me how much I adored using Adventures in Sitting Kitties. It truly is an adventure. Duane is one of a kind. Not only is he an amazing cat sitter he truly is a wordsmith. We waited for our daily updates and shared them like story time. The photos really brought the whole experience together. I'm obsessed with my cat and would do anything for him, Duane was the best kitty investment I've ever made. read more

Duane took care of our kitty when we were on Christmas vacation and we couldn't recommend anyone more highly. He me with us and was very good about bonding with Isabelle, asking questions about her special dietary needs as she had IBS. He's a very gentle guy and it gave us a lot of comfort to meet him and make an assessment if it was OK to leave Isabelle in his care. We were very pleased with his professionalism and good nature, so I would recommend him highly. read more

As wonderful as I had hoped! It's difficult having strangers in your home, let alone trusting them with your babies, but Duane did a great job, was very respectful of my home, and my cats have a new friend. I won't hesitate to call him again! read more

Duane is wonderful. Very professional and a true cat person. He looked after my cat over a long weekend. I really appreciated the email and picture updates and most important, my cat is happy. Update: I now have two kitties, and the new cat is just as fond of Duane as her brother. read more

Duane is the man. He truly loves cats. He sends pics of him chillin with my dude and everything. Hire this man! read more

Duane's service truly is as good as it gets! My husband and I went away for 7 days and left Duane with a long, complex list of instructions for our elderly kitty with kidney problems and our 20 lb. monster with an attitude problem; he went above and beyond the call of duty on every front. Specifically, here are some points that made Adventures in Sitting Kitties exceptional: - highly attentive and communicative care, including photos, calls, and emails - well thought out emergency and unexpected event preparedness - extremely organized - showed respect for our privacy and home security - very reasonably priced - MOST IMPORTANTLY, kept our kitties happy, healthy, and content in our absence Seriously, folks, if your cats are your kids you know they're happier at home when you're away and you're not going to find a better, more conscientious caretaker for hire. We will absolutely call on Duane the next time we go out of town! read more

I think my cats like Duane better than me! He is a cat man -- you can trust that he'll take care of your pets, play with them, and bond with them. I've had Duane watch my cats from 2013 through 2016. Unfortunately I now live too far for him to watch my cats. read more

Duane is nothing short of fantastic. He watched my two cats for a long weekend and sent daily updates with photos to let me know how they were doing. One of my cats requires daily medication and he even came up with a gentler way of administering it and demonstrated for me when I got home. He is also extremely responsive via text. I will definitely be hiring him in the future! read more

This is a long-overdue review from an experience a number of years back. I feel, however, that no matter how long ago it was, it needs to be said because it was so egregious. Duane and I lived in the same building, so I thought it was the perfect arrangement. Couldn't be easier for him to pop by and feed my cat, right? I went on vacation for more than a week and pre-paid him. Four or five days in, I had a friend of mine look in on my elderly cat just because I was gone so long. My friend found my cat's food and water bowls *completely* empty and her litter box overflowing. I don't know how long it had been since Duane had fed her or given her water. I called Duane and he denied it. My friend took pictures and sent them to me so I could see for myself. If I hadn't had someone double-check Duane's work, my cat could have died. read more

I've used Duane's service 3 times now, and have just booked him for a 4th for my vacation next month. He is definitely a cat lover, and takes really good care of my two guys. He is reliable, his rates are affordable, he's been available for me on short notice, he sends email updates about how things are going, and I come home to happy healthy cats who aren't holding a grudge against me for leaving them. What more could you want from a pet sitter? read more

We got two new kittens right before going on vacation. Terrible planning! Needless to say we were extremely anxious about leaving them do a week when we'd only had them for a few weeks. I am so happy to have found Duane! He came over beforehand to meet us and meet our kitties and talk about their "routine ". He came every day and stayed for about 45 minutes each time. In addition to feeding them, changing the water and cleaning litter boxes he played with them, gave them lots of love, and took fabulous pictures of them! He also brought in our mail and put out the trash. We appreciated so much the daily updates he sent! I recommend him very highly! read more

Duane at Sitting Kitties (as his website touts) really, really does love cats. When he came over to our house for a meet and greet, I mistakenly thought it would be for us to meet Duane. In reality, it was for Duane to meet our cat, Bertie. Within 5 minutes of walking through the door, Duane was on the rug next to Bertie getting to know him. The initial consultation was free and his rates are VERY reasonable. He is reliable, friendly and very thorough in making sure he has all the information he needs if anything goes wrong (which it never did). It should be noted that Duane comes to your house to take care of your cat/s. He doesn't board animals. Bertie and I highly recommend Duane. And yes, he really, really does love cats. read more

How did I not know Duane has a Yelp page? If I had, I would have written this years ago. Duane is to cat owners as catnip is to cats! We were one of his first clients nearly 10 years ago and there is no other cat sitter we'd even consider. Duane first cared for my two beloved old cats, both of whom needed medicine (one sub-cu fluids and the other insulin). He took such great care of them and I always felt confident leaving our fur family members in his hands. Plus the cats love him!! He has "it" whatever it is for your cat! Duane continues sit for our new dynamic duo. He is just the best! That's all there is to it. read more

Duane is the best!!! I have had very negative experiences with leaving kitties while away and now I only trust certain people with my babies. He's actually too good because he gets booked on holidays so reserve him early!! read more

Not enough good things to say about Duane. This guy freaking LOVES cats. He totally saved me in an emergency. With only two days notice, he was able to take care of my cats for 10 days. He came over to do the meet-and-greet at an early-morning time that was really convenient for my work schedule. Within five minutes of his arrival my skittish cat was all over him. Duane sent email updates the whole time we were gone. The detailed notes and photos made it clear that he had spent a lot of time with my cats and had gotten to know their personalities. He came at the same time every day, played with them for quite awhile, watered all my plants, and took care of any trouble they got into -- including cleaning up cat poop off the floor. I was really worried about leaving my cats at home for so long but knew immediately upon meeting Duane that they'd be just fine. Top notch guy, good prices, and you won't find someone who takes better care of your cats. read more

Duane has done a fantastic job taking care of our cats and our house as well. He really loves cats, and our cats have loved him right back. I would absolutely recommend him. When we are out of town, we've found that Duane is very responsive to questions and special requests. He has been a real blessing for our household. read more

Duane is wonderful! He is so trustworthy and reliable in caring for our beloved kitties. If anyone goes the extra mile it is him. I appreciate that he keeps me posted on how the kitties are doing and sends photos. Plus he has graciously cleaned up after the kitties if needed, given medications and brushed them until their fur shines. I would not hesitate to recommend Sitting Kitties to anyone that wants happy well cared for kitties while they are away. read more

Duane is a fantastic cat sitter! We've used him during short weekend trips and also multi-week vacations. He is kind, timely, and exceptional at handling cats: he brought a laser pointer to our first meet-and-greet and managed to play with our very shy cat. He has dealt with our (probably annoyingly complicated) needs: giving pills to our sick cat, cleaning up hairballs, and taking down the litter/waste. He communicates well and, while we're away, he sends us photos of the cats (he's good at capturing their personalities and provides funny titles). Our cats obviously enjoy having him visit, and seem much happier. We plan to keep using Duane for all of our cat sitting. read more

Duane is my hero. He really saved the day on short notice. I was soooo stressed out because I needed to give my cat meds, 2 pills and sub q fluids via syringe & needle. I gave him a call to see if it was something that he could help me with. I didn't live in his servicing area and referred me to someone else but then called me back in five minutes to see if I connected with his referral....he was genuinely concerned that I was helped. I had not yet called and then said he called back and said he would come and help. He came as he said, he was prompt courteous and efficient. My cat had the meds in her in no time. Thank you so much Duane for coming out of your way especailly after you've put a full day in already....over the top!!! Per her new vet...she is doing a lot better today....she had to stay overnight at the vet and hoping she will come home tomorrow. read more

Bubba is getting old and needs a lot of attention. Such a crazy cat - he might actually think he's a dog as he wants nothing more then for people to "pay attention to me all the time". He also gets stressed when he sees the suitcases come out and knows we're leaving and he likes to toss up his fodd when he's stressed. This makes leaving him alone for a few days a stressful event for his owners too. Duane is a good guy and a great cat sitter. He came over every day, played with Bubba, brushed him, and gave him the attention he needs. Upon returning home from a 9 day vacation Bubba was happy and the house was puke free. Duane likes cats and cats like Duane and I would definitly (and will) have Daune take care of Bubba the next time we head out of town. read more

Duane is a godsend. Our cats love him. He sends us picture updates daily while we're away and has suggestions for how to keep kitties happy while we're gone. Highly recommended! read more

As an update, we've been using Duane since my first review.... still five stars!

Duane really likes cats! He made an effort to get to know both of my cats individually. He sends me a picture and an email update at least once per trip. I have a lot of confidence that he is giving them a good amount of attention and isn't just coming in and out each time. Plus, he has a great website! read more

Duane is an extremely kind and patient person. He went above and beyond making sure that my "not-so-friendly-or-happy" cat was ok. Even with key problems while I was gone (totally my fault), he remained calm and cool, like a cat. I felt he really cared about my cat beyond his job, and that impressed me. He even brought over a bigger litter box for my cat to try out. He was excellent with communication. I would definitely trust him with my cat again, which in the end is most important. read more

It was a terrific day for me ... and for my two cats ... when I discovered Adventures in Sitting Kitties. Because I travel frequently, it was important that I find someone to visit my cats, not just to feed them and such, but to be a good compsnion. My cats have thrived under Duane's expert and utterly dependable care. I know they have looked forward to his visits! I could not recommend Duane more strongly! read more

I can't thank Duane enough for his kitty-sitting services. He truly loves cats and was able to help my fiance and I out at the last minute when we needed someone to watch our two cats. He's extremely professional -- you'll fill out a form with all your contact information, vet information and the amount of days he's to come over, plus any additional agreed upon services such as plant watering or newspaper pick up. He's also very affordable and would send me pictures of Wrangler and Zelda playing when he came on his visits. I absolutely would recommend Adventures in Sitting Kitties for your next vacation or weekend away. read more

I have to echo the sentiment above that Duane is the best cat sitter. He clearly loves cats and cares very much that his clients' cats are happy and healthy while they are away. The first time he watched my cats (3), he sent me an email while I was away to let me know how they were doing; by his descriptions I could tell that he was paying them a lot of attention and had gotten to know their special quirks. I would absolutely not hesitate to use his services again or recommend him to anyone. read more

Duane is an awesome cat sitter! He gets along great with our cat and she enjoys his visits! I think she barely notices when we get home. Plus Duane is easy to get in touch with to schedule appointments and always sends us email to let us know how she is doing. It's easy to travel knowing that Sonya is in good hands! read more

Duane is a great guy and a true cat lover. We feel completely comfortable leaving for vacation when he's watching our cat and we love the picture and text updates. Thanks Duane! read more

Duane is a caring, trustworthy cat sitter and it gave us great peace of mind to know that our cat was in good hands while we were away. We found him through our vet, whom he also cat-sits for. This was the first time we hired a professional cat sitter, and also the first time I was not completely stressed out wondering whether our friends had really gone over to check on our kitty or not. It was so awesome to get daily emails and pictures of our kitty looking happy and healthy. I highly recommend Duane's services! read more

Duane, Duane, Duane is the best! I have worked with enough Cat Sitters to know he is one of the best and I will keep him around as long as he will have us (me and my two kitties). I love to travel and I love my Kitties, they are use to a lot of attention and I have this big fear of their gentle spirits being broken...also I have made them in to high maintenance cats (shame on me)...all that being said...I really need someone who I can depend on, the minute I met Duane I knew he was the guy. Duane is nice, genuine, and truly has a talent/natural bond with cats. I was gone for 10 days and Duane kept me updated, he even took care of my thirsty plants. For the first time in years, I returned home to very happy kitties who probably got more love then when I am home, I could tell they were waiting for him to come back...I will always count on Duane and highly recommend him as someone who can give you peace while away. read more

I agree with the other reviews here. We really lucked out finding Duane. He's very dependable and my two elderly cats really really like him. If we're gone for a week, they seem totally relaxed, healthy and indifferent when we return. Duane is even a good sport about administering a (sometimes) extensive list of medications. Furthermore, he went above and beyond to return our house keys when I locked myself out last week...Now I just need to find a good vet. read more

Duane has cared for two generations of my kitties, since 2007, and I can't say enough about how wonderful he is with them, and reliable and trustworthy. His care was especially reassuring for an older, medically frail kitty. Since I'm moving away from Seattle, it will be a challenge to find someone I feel so confident in leaving my current girls with. Duane is one of their best buds and I know they will miss him, too. read more
