We came in October on the weekend. It was empty and was able to ride everything without issue. The only complaint would be the wave pool being kinda lame. I like the big waves and this kinda just bounces you a bit. Other than that: everything was great.

The wave pool was inoperable when we visited. Tickets are less online than at the gate.

If you have kids 10 to 9 and under it's a good place, I think there's 2 water rides if I remember correctly, the food court is really good as well. We use to love this place

Cabana near the little kids' area
Darci W.

We had a good time overall, but the food situation is terrible. One of the main reasons I reserved a cabana was because it said food delivery is included, but the delivery options are very limited. So we went to order from one place and stood in line for 10 minutes only to be told they were out of the one thing my daughter wanted. On our way back to the cabana, we tried getting drinks & a churro but their computer was down. We tried getting Dippin' Dots, but that stand had the same computer problem. We went back for Dippin' Dots later in the day, and they were out of 3 of the flavors. There were not a lot of food options available. The pizza place was closed for part of the day, and the food truck with empanadas was closed the whole time. So our choices were basically either hot dog or barbecue. I ordered kettle chips (shown as a large basket of chips in the picture) and a side of mixed fruit for cabana delivery. They were out of fruit, so they brought extra chips instead. But the chips they brought were not the large basket shown in the picture, but a vending machine sized bag -- for $7.50! I would have had them refund the fruit if I had been there, but I had stepped away and the kids just took the extra bag of chips they were brought. The ground gets HOT! I always walk barefoot at water parks and have never had my feet burn like this. They need to use different materials for the walkways or at least provide more shade or misters to keep the ground from scalding people. I saw kids crying and parents having to carry them because the ground was so hot in some places. One kid left the water slide line he was in because his feet were burning and he couldn't take it anymore. Summary: The water attractions are fine. Slides, lazy river, wave pool were all acceptable -- not the best I've been to, but definitely not the worst. But the food options are very limited and stupidly expensive, even for a water park. The cabana was nice to have, but I wouldn't spend that much ($280 for the cheapest option) on it again. If I came back, we'd eat lunch somewhere else first and not eat at all at the park. And I would definitely wear water shoes the whole time!

Kids splash pad zone, Adventure Island Water Park

We always have a great time when we visit Adventure Island! Adventure Island Water Park is a fun-filled, 30-acre Key West-themed water park operated by Busch Gardens.and you can get an annual pass combo that includes both parks for $100 on black Friday. For smaller children, "Fabian's Funport" is a kid-safe zone complete with water jets, bubbling springs and a colorful wading pool. Older kids and teens can enjoy wilder rides like "Riptide" and "Corkscrew." Kids Pools Endless Surf Wave Pool 8/10 Paradise Lagoon Pool 4/10 Rambling Bayou Lazy River 10/10 Splash Attack 10/10 Fabian's Fun Port 9/10 Water Rides: Aruba Tuba 8/10 Calypso Coaster 7/10 Caribbean Corkscrew 4/10 Colossal Curl 9/10 Riptide Rush 9/10 Vanish Point Drop Slide 8/10 Water Moccasin Enclosed Slide 8/10 Solar Vortex 10/10 Wahoo Remix 9/10 Rapids Racer 8/10 If your kids like water slides and splash pads and live in Tampa or are visiting Tampa, they'll love Adventure Island Water Park! Adventure Island's food options are fairly limited to American high calorie junk food that kids love like and somehow don't gain any weight consuming like burgers, chicken fingers, and pizza but adults do gain weight eating this junk! Management could add some healthier low calorie options for adults especially at a water park where people are in bathing suits not trying to pack on the pounds! While the best themed water park is Universal's Volcano Bay Water Park followed by Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park in Orlando 1.5 hours away, Adventure Island Water Park is the best water park in Tampa for those not looking to drive over an hour and offers more fun options for younger children than most of the other Water Parks in Orlando!

Taking a snack break in the cabana

This is a fun water park especially if you have kids. My daughter absolutely loved the slide park and the lazy river. We sprung for a reserved cabana so didn't have to jostle for chairs or shade. This came with a locker and a mini fridge which was great. They don't allow outside food but it's not super strict. We were able to bring in toddler snacks without hassle. One star knocked off for nasty bathrooms! Maybe it was because we were by the kids area but omg very dirty. We had a great time and we would come back.

What time do they close the parking lot booths? I went at 5:30 to pick up kids and didn't have to pay. It closed at 7. So I could have played around for a couple of hours for free. OR, is it free parking for fun pass?

So funny cause I got there around 11 and I didn't have to pay also. I'm not sure if free parking right now is some sort of promotion.

Is this Place vegan friendly since they don't allow outside food?

Not sure but worst case you could eat food you bring at picnic tables outside the entrance next to the parking lot.

Had a slightly traumatic experience today. My 7 year old got stuck (for 5 to 10 minutes) in the big slide which is pitch dark all the way through (fun but not when you get stuck) and he wasn't helped promptly. Full story - I was up there at the slide entrance and i could hear him screaming that he needs help. There was a staff up there (looked like a teenage kid) who had a walkie talkie. I assumed he would have informed the people in charge as soon as he got stuck. I kept talking to my son to lie down and try to push himself down and he kept responding saying he's trying everything but is still stuck and it is getting very uncomfortable. After a while I checked with the staff whether someone is coming to help. And then I see him telling on the walkie talkie "the boy is stuck on the slide can someone help?". I was shocked. It must have been a good 5 minutes (no watch, just guessing) and he just thought of informing?! By the time someone could come, my son finally managed to push himself down. I told the guy "you should have informed quicker" and his response was "talk to my manager". I thought "ok no use talking to the teenage kid he probably wasn't trained how to react in these situations". I went to the manager and told her "please train your staff to inform quicker" her response "he probably was sitting down, we cannot do anything about this" i go "No he was lying down this time.. first time he was sitting, but this time he was lying" she repeats "he probably was sitting; we don't promise how long it takes to slide; you eventually get down and that's what matters". Is this an empathetic response? I mean i get you have to stick to boiler plate legal language at times, but im not trying to sue anyone here. Im just looking for "i understand that must have felt scary, ill talk to my staff on acting quicker". I felt like I was talking to a robot both with the teenage staff and with the manager. Anyway, my husband intervened and helped the communication and both the manager and the teenage staff eventually apologized and i really appreciated it. Takeaway - If you're not staying in Holiday Inn, NorthShore Aquatic Center might be as fun for a fraction of the cost If you're staying in Holiday Inn, avoid the blue slide or go shirtless (another staff pointed out that might have helped) I see other reviews as well about untrained and disengaged teenage staff. Should have read before I visited!

Watching the performers was delightful. Even with the air lines under the water it was amazing to watch. Just being able to keep your eyes open underwater was astounding to me. We even got an extra performance for the Memorial Day holiday with a tribute to our service members. After the show they had a mermaid photo op that was donation based. After the show, I explored the rest of the park. It isn't that large but was a nice area and worth the $13 to get in. They have an area for swimming in part of the springs. I didn't bring my swimsuit but there were many people swimming and having a good time. There are some water slides too. They have a great gift shop. We caught the last 15 minutes of the show as it runs from 11-11:30, 1:30-2pm and 3-3:30pm. It's a relatively small park. The mermaid show is cute if you have children under the age of 10 years old. Otherwise, give it a miss. Admission is $13 ea a little less for kids. 4 of us cost about $42 for entrance fees. They have a water slide that was not operating. They have a small "nature " walk. They have a boat that was not running to look at nature and they have a 30 minute animal encounter educational experience with a ranger. She showed and talked about two kinds of turtles, a snake and a small alligator. Walking around they have photo ops to look like a mermaid and after the show you have a chance to photograph yourself with a live mermaid from the show. If you have $50- $100 your kid can have a "mermaid makeover". We were at the park for maybe 1.5 hours. I suppose if the boat was running and the water slide was operating one could spend up to 3 hours. It was an interesting experience. Once is enough.

There is a fast food truck outside the pool and a bar upstairs (expensive drinks but to be expected). The adult pool area in the lagoon is a smaller size as the obstacle course takes up a majority of the pool. The one food truck that was open had great burgers and fries and hot dogs. My complaint and the reason for my less than stellar review is because they were severely understaffed. I understand it's a weird time after season and not quite summer but they didn't have enough staff to open the ice cream truck, or run multiple rides. While there is a posted schedule saying that they will alternate obstacle cores with kayaks and the bumper boats, after we waited in line for the bumper boats the attendant only ran four people and then said, "I only have four working boats so I'm just going to shut this down". Unfortunately the group of five kids I was with was next and they were still 15 plus people after us. Literally the only complaint is the staffing. The cotton candy machine was down, the ice cream truck never opened, and the attraction rotation didn't follow the schedule and that's the reason why it's only a two out of five star for me. It just made it extra difficult to entertain kids when so much of the stuff to entertain them was not accessible.

The Solar Vortex Water Slide is a high-thrill family friendly raft slide which combines high-banking rotations and rapid descents, sending sliders on a swirling journey through 2 open tailspin features. The swirly "tailspin" is like a broad funnel shooting you out into a tunnel. It's a pretty high drop so it really increases your speed. The high speed generated by the tailspin feature really amps up the ride. Lean back on the circular raft so it picks up more speed on the exit as you switch through the tailspin. My favorite feature of Solar Vortex is the 3 dynamic AquaLucent elements which harness the power of the Florida sun into colorful patterns that shine through the slide. Riders can reach speeds of up to 20 miles per hour which is pretty fast but not the fastest slide at the park. This slide is not super scary but more trippy and relaxing with a couple drops and twists sprinkled in. Riders must only be at least 42 inches tall, which makes it the first big water slide thrill ride for little kids. Most kids 5 or older are over 42 inches tall. Visitors can ride in the raft in parties of two or four. If you're at Adventure Island or looking for a fun day at the Waterpark, definitely check out the new Solar Vortex Water Slide at Adventure Island!

While there have been some positives, the overall direction, especially in recent years, has been disappointing. The biggest issue is a clear decline in customer experience. The Metro Development Group management team seems to have lost sight of what made this place successful in the first place: its residents. The very people who built the Lagoon's reputation are now being treated like an afterthought. One example is the entry process. Residents used to have a dedicated entry and bag check, which made sense and showed value for membership. That has slowly been phased out, leaving members stuck in long general admission lines. For a paid membership experience, that's simply unacceptable. Even more frustrating is the constant rollout of new systems that feel unfinished. Instead of leveraging existing member data, residents are repeatedly forced to re-register as if they're brand new. This creates unnecessary confusion--for both members and staff--and leads to avoidable issues. This past weekend, I watched a longtime "legacy member" family of five get told only the father existed in the system. The rest of the family had been removed and would need to enter as guests. That's not just inconvenient--it's embarrassing and unacceptable for a venue of this caliber. I had a similar experience myself. I used my membership card to check in and purchase a drink with no issue. Less than an hour later, the same card suddenly "didn't exist" in the system. I was forced to go through the entire setup process again. There's clearly a lack of consistency and reliability in their system. At this point, it feels like this location is being used as a testing ground for new processes rather than being properly managed. If that's the case, there's little evidence that feedback is being implemented or that improvements are being made for this community. Metro needs leadership with real hospitality experience--someone who understands how to run a high-quality, member-focused venue and deliver a consistent experience. If management is reading this: please remember what made this Lagoon successful. Invest in your residents, fix the systems, and bring back the level of service this community deserves. This was the first Lagoon in the U.S.--it should be one of the best, not one of the most frustrating.
