We had tried other boarders and trainers for our dog (80lb mixed breed, high energy). But they all had such heavy or strong approaches that did not suit our pup. In his case, the nurturing and training of dogs of all breeds, sizes, dispositions, and histories. We are so incredibly lucky that our pup earned a regular (highly coveted and competitive) spot on his popular big dog hike. Make no mistake, William is not a dog walker or a babysitter for your dog. He is a masterful trainer. Placing your dog in William's care is sure to be a transformative experience. Our Alaskan Malamute, Atticus ("Attie" for short) has been with William since 2014/2015. Yes, this review is LONG overdue. She adores William. He truly is her favorite "alpha". She gets SO excited to go out with her pack when William comes to retrieve her for their adventures. While she's out and we're at home working, William texts us beautiful photos capturing her joyful leaps and bounds with her buddies or her gleeful traipsing through a nice cool mud puddle. One of the most unique things about William is he creates these INCREDIBLE videos of him in action training these dogs. He will line all the dogs up or gather them in a perfect circle and have them do various tasks on command. For instance, we will call one particular dog forward by name to get a treat and none of the others will move a muscle! Every single one on their best behavior, completely under William's spell! He takes pictures in the same way. Creating the perfect family-dog pack photos. All dogs, perfectly arranged by size, looking at the camera with big happy grins. How does this man do it?! I haven't a clue, but damn, he's good. He's also talented at working with dogs with behavioral problems or histories of trauma. Whatever your dog's issue, William will give him or her the love they need to conquer their issue. He is so loving with them. William grew up on a farm and has been caring for animals from a very young age. He discovered he had a particular passion for dogs and had many as a child. Here is a beautiful passage from his website reminiscing about one of his favorite childhood dogs: "As I got older, I wanted bigger dogs. I really wanted a Rottweiler or Doberman Pincher. My mom had concerns with such a notoriously dangerous breed, but as usual, I got my way and I got my Rottweiler, Fritz.  I learned so much from Fritz.  Just because he was a Rottweiler people were scared of him and taken a back with a kid who had a dangerous breed. But from the moment I got him as a puppy, I showered him with love and affection, trained and played with him every day, showing him who was the leader in a way that dogs do with each other.  Fritz the Rottweiler, was the mildest, kindest, friendliest dog I have ever had.  He taught me that although different breeds, like different people from around the world, might be predestined to certain characteristics, it doesn't define who they are if the right love and environment is provided." William is wonderful! He was referred to us from a friend of mine. For my dog better leash walking was our initial goal & it has definitely been improved. I can not put a price on how much he is helping me understand my dog more & how to lead her better myself because to me that is also how change happens outside of training. What I feel like is very aligned with me and my goals is that I want my dog to have as much freedom as possible(coming with me to restaurants, maybe being off leash on hikes, etc) but in order to do that she has to learn some rules. William is really helping us towards that, and I can tell by how much more attentive, calm(less anxious), and happy she is outside of lessons/daycare. read more

We were referred to William by a neighbor and had two sessions with him. After the first ten minutes of meeting us he put a prong collar on our pup. I have since learned that this is the worst way to introduce this especially to a dog who is sensitive. I will always regret not doing research on this beforehand. However I didn't know a prong collar would even be in discussion during our first training with him. I feel it's a lack of knowledge on his part to use it without spending more time with our pup to get to know his behavior. Initially it seemed to work and in that time William did check in with us. But after the second session our dog became extremely reactive when on walks seeing any other dogs because of the collar. The collar and training sessions made things horrible for us. When we reached out to William several times to learn what we could do to help our boy we never heard from him again. Either he didn't want to work with us or he didn't know how to help a dog that didn't do exactly what he wanted. Based on other reviews he seems to have a hard time with communication and responding to people. I would not recommend him and I will always regret that we went to him. It's taken us over 6 months to reverse the effects our two sessions had on our dog. As a first time dog parent I have learned a lot of what not to do from this experience and I hate that it was at the expense of my dog. read more

My dog, Billie, has been part of the Adventure Dog LA hikes for 1.5 years now and it has been nothing but amazing. When I adopted Billie, she was extremely unsocialized. Her overwhelming energy compounded with her lack of social skills led every dog encounter to be a disaster. She didn't know how to approach another dog so all she could do was aggressively bark and lunge. After meeting William, we arranged for her to go on the hikes to socialize her and it has only been an uphill journey since then. Within a month into her weekly hikes, I felt comfortable having her around other dogs and even began going to dog parks. Billie spends all her Tuesday and Thursday mornings staring at my phone eagerly waiting for William's text to notify me of his arrival. Then, I spend the rest of the day eagerly waiting for William's photo and video updates of the dogs. Many times, they contain wonderful knowledge and insight into dog behavior.
