Came here reluctantly after reading the negative reviews on Yelp, but I was running out of time and it was 4:15 on a Sunday, so only one place was open. The tech was friendly, the service was quick (15 mins) and I now have a new place for future smog certificates. What surprised me was that the tech placed an ODBC reader on the car to make sure that there weren't any outstanding isses before hooking it up to the machine. Had the last place I went to complete this check, after I'd replaced the oxygen sensors, it wouldn't have failed resulting in me having to pay for a retest. read more

If there was a way to give this place zero stars, I would. After my husband paid for his smog test here and failed, they assured him, as do all of their signs and marketing materials, that his retests would be free. He returned three days after his initial visit, after significant repairs, and the technician, Miguel, refused to retest without his original receipt. My husband left the receipt at home, but wondered why they wouldn't have records corresponding to his license plate. I sent him photos of the original receipt, and Miguel reluctantly conducted the recheck. His car still failed, so he had to return yet again after two more days. This time, Miguel asked him why he keeps coming back. My husband explained that he has to pass for the DMV registration (isn't this why you get a smog check?) Miguel was incredibly rude and dismissive. Finally, his car passed the smog check. Miguel assured him that since he passed, the form is automatically sent to the DMV within a few hours. He told him he doesn't need any certification. He didn't give him anything to turn into the DMV. Obviously, this is not true. So when I returned today to ask for a print out of my husband's clear smog check, Miguel told me this was the last print out he was going to do (HE NEVER GAVE US ONE TO BEGIN WITH!). Even if he actually had given us numerous copies, these are just regular sheets of paper! There's nothing special about it, it's literally just a receipt. He warned me, as if I was some small child, instead of a paying patron, that I should not come back here to ask for a receipt OF THE TRANSACTION WE PAID FOR AND ACTUALLY NEED A RECEIPT OF. I'm not certain if Miguel had a problem with my husband in particular, or if he didn't want to be bothered with just a measly smog check. Either way, this is absolutely a place I would never recommend. read more

If this place were a tree in the hot afternoon sun it would be great... Shady shady shady! But alas, it is not. It's a smog station, or a meager representation of one. Little longer story, my car failed a test due to a self test having not completed yet. Came back in after driving it more and was told they don't do free retests and it would be 60 to retest even though I have my original receipt and was told it would be free back at the original test (just have to pay the 8 bucks for certificate). Tried to find out who the boss was to ask them... One guy says it's the guy who runs the gas station, next guy says the gas station guy has nothing to do with the smog part... Can't seem to get the same answer from anybody regarding any question I ask. Went to another place described what happened and they said since it failed once they didn't want to test it cause it would look bad for them to test and pass it after it failed somewhere else. By the by, I asked at the other place if they do free retests... Yes of course! just like all the other smog places I've ever used. Now I'm back at the original place... This time it's $20 to retest (plus cert). Apparent they have no set company policy here just depends on who you get and what their mood is that day....Leading to the next complaint, talk about unfriendly just like several other people have mentioned. Finally during the 30 minute retest I had to sit there freezing my buns off (morning in February) because they have no waiting area like most other places, just 2 metal bar stools outside the gas station. I came here for convenience since it's close to my home and I figured I'd give them a chance, won't make that mistake again, and I suggest you do the same, this place doesn't deserve your business. read more

Read the fine print or get ripped off! I called and said I had a coupon and they said come right in. I got there in 10 minutes. When I went to the window to pay and showed him the coupon, he rudely said it was too late because the service tech had already filled out the invoice for $68.95. He sent me back to the tech, an older guy who argued that I didn't show it before he did the work. I said that I told him over the phone that I had a coupon, and If that's so important, why don't they ask for it before they do the work? Anyway, what difference does it make? Same story: I already wrote $68.95 on the invoice. Both guys simply refused to change to the coupon price, so I had no choice but to pay $30 more than I expected, which is $20 more than the price most people charge. They know almost everyone looks for the cheapest price, and they know most people will bring a coupon, Instead, they take advantage of people who don't wave it in their face the minute they drive in. I took my car here for a smog test last month and my car failed by a few points. The man working that day told me to get an oil change and come back within 30 days to have it tested again at no charge. I took it back today and a different man was working. At first he told me only the guy who performed it would honor the 30 days. I was upset because I was not told that originally, but he did agree to honor it after speaking a bit more. I had the exact same experience as Matthew from 7 days ago. I sent my brother to take care of my smog check and they charged him $78.23 which includes a separate charge for the certification. Their Yelp page says $29.95 total including the certification. So they charged me more than double their advertised price. I called and demanded a refund and they said I have to come to the shop when a manager is there. Lets see how this goes. Regardless, they're just another sleezy auto shop. Omar (very friendly) asked if service engine light was reset or battery recently changed or disconnected because it would erase emissions history in the computer and cause the test to fail. This was first I heard of this issue, and I appreciate his very helpful question. I had the battery replaced 9 months ago. He said no problem. Gave him coupon from website. He quoted $37.?? (as MDX is an SUV) plus $8.?? for certificate if pass and no free retest if fail due to coupon discount. All up front. Took like 5 minutes from pulling MDX in, until test passed. A few more minutes for credit card paperwork and this review. $46.24 total on MasterCard (November 23, 2015). Perfect! Thank you Omar! I don't understand the other reviews. I feel like I just went to a different place after reading them. Super quick, can't argue there. If that is all you care about, go for it. As far as service goes the cashier was awful. They charged me $78 for a smog check that took about 8 minutes. I pointed out that there were coupons for 20-30 bucks all over the area and he pretended that I hadn't said a word. I called 949-770-1007 (the 877 number doesn't work). Talked to Sam, he offered me $40, including certificate. I drove over there during my lunch break, dropped off the car, went to Subway nearby. When I was done with my lunch in 15 minutes, the smog test was already completed. Great and fast service, with real good price. I paid him cash. I went for a smog check and was told the price was $29.95 and took my signature on work order. When I went to pay, the cashier added an extra some $8.25. I asked what it was and he muttered "certificate, certificate". Why not say it upfront when you got my sign off? I would have gladly accepted as its not a big deal. Have used this place a number of times over the years but having the smog station manned seems to have fallen off in the last couple visits. A year ago I dropped in for a smog, told smog guy was out today, come back tomorrow, next day same thing. Third visit, all ok. Now this year I went on a Wed. Told smog guy was out. But will be back and could do me Thu or Fri. Dropped in Fri and told, not in. Called the next week before going in, guy told me he was there and come right in. Came immediately down (5 mins) and he told me he was taking lunch and to come back in 30 mins. That was it. I went elsewhere. Like I said, the check used to get done fast and efficient and based on other reviews I guess still does, but I would recommend calling first to make sure the tester is on-site. read more

The only advantage this place takes is of you... They quoted me $38.20 dollars then once I arrived and had the work done they tried to charge me $68.71 dollars as soon as they saw that I had money and looked well dressed. The rude man working the counter Masood (old mustache persian guy)tried to confinscate my car and refused to let me leave once I told him his employee quoted me $38 he called him and had him try and tell me that its my fault he said $38 Long story short I had to call the non-Emergency police to have them come tell him what he was doing is highly illegal and you can take someones keys and refuse to give them their car. Thats theft... They only have the right to file a claim that a customer refused to pay. I DIDNT REFUSE TO PAY tho and that the problem. I told him i would pay the quoted price. Ended up paying $45 dollars and having the police come and give masood a lesson on his rights. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST. read more

I went to this shop because of a coupon in the Pennysaver. My car has aftermarket parts, but they're all smog legal, all had Executive Order numbers from the California Air Resources Board, and I had documentation for everything. They wouldn't even look at my paperwork OR the car; they just told me to find another smog shop, as they weren't allowed to smog vehicles with aftermarket parts. Sorry guys, but you just won less business. You're smog technicians, which means you're certified by the state to do your job and have training to know how to check these things. You were just too lazy and didn't want to be bothered, so I ended up at U.S.Smog Test Only station at the corner of Lake Forest & Dimension, a much more professional shop that looked over the paperwork, the parts, verified that everything was legal, and proceeded to smog the car with no problem. Guess what? It passed with much lower than normal emissions. Hopefully others will see this and choose to not do business with you. read more
