Smog test/certificate is required for DMV renewal so here I am. The man at the shop was all business, no chitchat, no nonsense. I filled out the intake form, he took my key, then started to work on the car. 20 minutes later it is all done. I paid the $58 fee and walked out. Not sure why this shop is rated at only 3 stars on Yelp. I kind liked its style and efficiency. read more

Howard is great! There were a few ppl ahead of me so it took about 40 minutes. Not too bad. The price was $58 with the coupon. The coupon says $29 but you have to read it carefully as there are specific guidelines for the coupon. If your car doesn't meet the requirements it still gives you $10 off the $68 fee. $58 is still relatively cheap I've paid $80 elsewhere and the service wasn't that great. I would rather pay $58 and be serviced here. Once it was my turn it was about 10-15 minutes so pretty quick service. The results are sent to the dmv and triple A so you don't have to do anything. Howard is very professional and kind. read more

Update: has not changed. Still the basic do a smog check and leave place. Made a mistake by going to the shady place in Mobil down the street who said I needed to do an additional test. Came right back here and passed and out in less than 20 mins. Use their online coupon AND READ THE EXCEPTIONS for the best deal as the coupon doesn't cover all vehicles. The lobby is pretty dingy but that reflects how they can keep the price low. I'm still good with it. read more

I called to get a quote for a smog check for my 2015 Acura TLX and to ask if I qualified for the $29.95 + $8.25 certificate coupon. After reading several reviews mentioning confusion about the coupon, I wanted to clarify before coming in. The person who answered told me my car doesn't qualify, but when I asked which cars do, he said "Toyota and Honda" in a rude and impatient tone. This review is more about the customer service than the coupon itself. A simple question shouldn't be met with that kind of attitude. For the business owner, I'd recommend making the coupon terms clearer and more transparent so customers know what to expect. Based on our conversation, it seems like they get a lot of calls about this issue, which might explain the frustration but better communication would go a long way. read more

Honestly 10/10 experience I used the coupon and the coupon does state different types of vehicles that the price does not apply to. I'm not sure why people are confused on that. But easy, quick, and will be coming back again. read more

Quick in and out. $20 extra for Minivan ( Their coupon states that minivan and SUVs have extra charges. Overall good experience. read more

Man in the front was so rude. I had parked in the parking lot for a moment for a shop right next door. Sign clearly said for the automotive center. He took a photo of my car then walked away and wouldn't talk to me. I will not ever be going to this business based on the way I was treated just parking. read more

Nearby and in and out so I could get to in and out before the line got too long !!!. Good price good service, professional.

I do not recommend this place. First, they did not honor the advertised price of $30 on their website, which is just a bait. Second, their estimated time was way off and took double the time. read more

Shady AF, just like most reviews say it is. Went in with their $29.75 coupon to get my 2007 Prius smogged, and the guy said it would be $61 plus tax. I said, "what about your coupon?" And he said, "hybrids are more." So I left to find an honest smog check place. Be warned, this is a total bait and switch place! By the way, they were totally empty when I showed up. The guy was standing in front, waiting for customers. read more

Guy was rude and the coupon advertised for $29.75 + 8.25 is a scam. He will charge you $58 regardless of the car you have. The guy next door is pricier but way nicer and honest. read more

I called in advance to see if they were busy, "Anytime is good" only to arrive and be gruffly told by Martin "minimum 2 hour wait, and that car is $120" even though the phone quote was $60 (plus cert of course). I told him of the phone quote and he wouldn't budge. I left and went to what turned out to be a much better smog facility: USA Smog on Obrero. read more

Bait & switch! Printed a coupon for $29.75. Got there and they wanted to charge me $59 - false advertising!!!

Bait & switch! Printed a coupon for $29.75. Got there and they wanted to charge me $59 absolute liars.

I came in for a quick smog test since my car was due for registration renewal. Saw a coupon for $29.75 online. It was close to my work so I thought I'd support the local small shop. My mistake for not researching them prior to going in. The process wasn't too long, about 30 to 45 minutes. When it came time to pay I showed him the coupon and he told me my car doesn't qualify. The coupon does say "Most Cars 2000 & Up". What it really should say is "Some Cars". My car is a 2017 and isn't an SUV. Yet he said I don't qualify. So which cars do? He didn't say. I ended up paying $58. Feel like I got bait-n-switched. Feels like this is borderline illegal. I actually don't mind the price I paid so much as the shady practice of the "fake" coupon. So if you're looking to smog your car and you see this review, I hope this helps steer you to a better business. read more

I'd give them a 3.5 overall. 5 stars for the efficient and quick smog check. But 3 stars for the coupon fiasco. Spoke to the owner over the phone first (Howard?) - he tried to tell me it would be $51 using the $29.75 coupon (+ $8 certificate). I said, "Whoa - that's not what your coupon says". Gave me a bunch of gobble-de-gook and I said "no thanks". He did call back and agreed to $41 out-the-door. That was okay as it was only $3 over the stated coupon price. Went there and the service guy acknowledged knowing about my agreement. He immed. took my car, passed the test and I was done in 25 min. Owner had asked me to write a review on Yelp (I can see why). I agreed to do so. The performance of the task was fine but not honoring the coupon (based on all the reviews) seems to be a recurrent theme here. Suggest you call first and nail down the price. read more

Like most people who've left reviews, I'm pissed about the bait switch online coupon. "$29.75 Most cars 2000 and up. Luxury cars extra" A 2012 VW Beetle is a luxury car? Total bait switch; totally deceptive. Did I go through with it anyway? Yes, I needed to get my car smogged. I bet that's common for nearly everyone that gives this place business. If they were honest with people, they'd come back as customers. I know I won't, and it doesn't look like very many others will either. Stop BSing people. Go elsewhere, I will. read more

DO NOT go to this place. Zero customer service and rude AF. He hung up my call when I trying to verify his quote. Wish you close your business soon! read more

Great experience - excellent service, no wait for the smog test, open Saturday, and all at a reasonable price. Thank you US Smog.

Just wanted to add update to this after I took my car to another place with the check engine light on they said it was a battery drain error and just reset it. They also said they could do the smog test for $49. All was good with this company and I will write a review for them however PLEASE IF you have a hybrid stay away from this place read more

Unfortunately, while renewing our tags on line, I completely "missed" the part about needing a Smog Certificate this year! And, when I went to put on the "tags" found the proverbial "your registration is paid pending Smog Cert" letter in lieu of my "2025" sticker! I quickly called around and Martin, was extremely helpful over the phone. Within 1 hour I was over at US Smog, with only 1 vehicle ahead of mine (no appointment was made) 1 hour later, I was on my way...vehicle passed, paper work attached to my "registration" and information transmitted to the DMV. (Should receive the tags by next week!) Yes, the price was more than the "coupon" but it clearly states that it would be, ie, SUV's more. Yes, it's small and not "bright and shiny"...they do SMOG CHECKS...they're not selling luxury cars! But, they're helpful, knowledgeable and do what they do well (aside from getting you in/out in a reasonable amount of time!) Thank you again, Martin, for your kindness yesterday and for providing the service US Smog does! read more

If I can give them zero stars I would ! Like some other people have said in their reviews he would not honor the coupon saying my 2016 Scion FR-S is a luxury car. I kind of laughed at him and said that it was not a luxury car. From other reviews (my bad- I did not read them before choosing this place) it seems he does this quite regularly. The price of $58.00 was comparable to other places I looked at so I stayed and let him to the test. He advertises a coupon on his website but doesn't honor. Not good business. read more

Wish I'd checked Yelp first. Jerk behind the counter told me it would be $20 on top of the coupon price because I had a "Star Station" only notice. Why else would I bother to look for a Star test station? I pointed out that the surcharge was not listed on the coupon. He shrugged. I left. If everyone else does the same we can drive this guy out of business. read more

I went in for a smog check on a 2010 Lexus ES 300 mid size sedan. I told him a had a coupon and he would not honor it calling my 14 year old car luxury. I've had my car smog before, had car washes before, and it is not considered a luxury car. Now maybe the higher end models are but it was classic bait and switch. When I questioned him about it he called me a "cheap ass white boy"! I'm 60 years old and he flipped me off started calling me names. This is the definition of a Racist!! I encourage anyone with any moral or ethical values not to bring their car there so you do not get verbally abused. Yes, he was of a different nationality and obviously not grateful for living in the greatest country in the world! read more

Bait and switch. They post a coupon for 29 dollars + paperwork and charge you $58. Martin gives you a line that if your car requires a Star facility it is extra but "we cannot fit all that detail into a coupon". Pure BS it is the same amount of work. I enquired but did not push the matter since he hinted I may not pass the Star portion. Bait and switch with intimidation. Do not go here there are plenty of reputable smog stations. read more

They do not honor the $29.75 smog check coupon. The person behind the counter stated that my 2017 Fiat was a luxury car and therefore did not qualify. Ha Ha! It's nice to know that I drive a luxury car! Took my business elsewhere. The coupon is just a come on. Sleazy business practice. read more

17 Year Customer Lost I have been using this location since 2005 for two vehicles, which means every year I was bringing one in for smog . I don't know if there was a change in ownership that led to my experience today. Just look at reviews from 2019 to today and you will see the difference in experience. My reason for going there was the advertised price with coupon. I have an SUV and Truck. With coupon they always added $10 for the larger vehicle, which doesn't really make sense, when it really isn't a different process or take additional resources. However it was still a great price. Today when going in they tried to double the advertised price and reduce $10. When questioned, I was given an explanation of, "I don't know if you ever got a smog before, but it costs more." Let me refer back to the fact that I have used this location annually for the last 17 years with one vehicle or another. I told him that I have and that I had used this location and shared the pricing that I have paid in the past. The dismissive response instantly sent me out the door looking for one of the 15 other options within five miles. I paid normal price two miles away and was still cheaper than "US Smog Coupon Rate" Bottom Line: Deceptive advertising and new ownership...Will pay full price down the street before I deal with this place again. 17 Year Customer Lost. read more

The worst Website states open until 4:30. Arrived at 2:45 and was told to come back because they close at 3:00. The customer service sucks. They are obviously a business that is structured to maximize profit. I went somewhere else and paid again to avoid them read more

Both thumbs down and false advertising alert! I called this morning, with the advertised coupon, and he yelled aggressively 'I am the only one open, I am the one open $60 now!' I replied, well I have a coupon, and again he replied 'I am the only one open.' During this time price gouging needs to be reported, because people are hurting. Beyond that, there is an active coupon that he is not honoring, which is false advertisement. I will wait and support an upstanding business over this one any day. read more

I gave an extra Star because the manager came to rescue. This is how my day starts, I took my work truck here for the smog and waited around 40 min, smog passed, I went to AAA to complete the registration and Waite another 45 min for them to tell me the smog company used the wrong system for my truck and they cant register it so I called the manager of US Smog he asked me to go back and re do it , then their machine was locked and wouldn't start anyhow another hour and half of waiting in a dirty place and sitting on some totally disgusting chairs was not fun at all, my advice is that if you visit this place make sure to ware a clothing that you don't care much for so you can burn it afterwards. I visited their next door place and that place is like a high end hotel compare to this one and price is the same, so for the future I know who to go to on my other trucks and cars... read more

BAIT AND SWITCH. Their website advertises a coupon for $29.75 plus the state certificate. Sounds good. I take the second part of the day off to get this done. I get there, and the mechanic who is in charge tells me it will be $20.00 more for the smog check because I drive a luxury car! What kind of luxury car do I drive? A 2013 Ford Mustang!!!!! The mechanic guy was apologetic, and says he doesn't make the rules. I kind of had no choice since I waited until the last minute on my registration and the Gavin Newsom "You Paid Late Tax" would be over $100.00. Did they smog my car? Yes. Did it pass? Yes. But I got fleeced for $20 by liars and thieves. I will not recommend or return. read more
