It's been over a decade since I had my hair cut and professionally colored because I was told…read morepreviously that they didn't know what to do with my hair and just cut my bangs. I had a lot of hair loss after my last pregnancy and so this was incredibly disheartening and made me fearful of being turned away again. Well, after a lot of encouragement from my husband to try again I tried Bliss. My stylist was Melissa and she was absolutely great, she was upset that no one wanted to cut my hair in town and took care of me. She made suggestions to help me make a good decision on my cut and color and what she would recommend for my future hair. I am incredibly grateful and will follow her advice. Thank you so much!

Just had my first pedi here today. I absolutely loved it! First, it's a nice place. Cheaper places…read moretend to work in volume. The faster they work, the faster they get on to the next person. So you feel very rushed! And many of these type of salons make me worry about hygiene. If they can't clean the spots I can see, are they really cleaning the parts I can't??!! Not so here. Everything is nice and clean. Secondly, the massage chairs are wonderful, with different levels of massage and intensity. I was offered coffee, tea or water. You have your choice of a regular pedi for $24 or the spa pedi for $42. I chose the spa pedi that includes sea salt, a pomegranate wrap and massage. Totally worth it. They had a nice choice of colors to choose from. It was SO relaxing. Love how my tootsies turned out. For $5, they can add art work with sparkles. There are two chairs in the spa area, so next time I'm taking a girlfriend or my mom for a nice mani-pedi afternoon. I highly recommend.

Custom Cut & Color

I really hate posting negative reviews. As you can see, I do give these companies more than one…read morechance to make things right. I've now had 2 questionable coloring experiences at Custom Cut & Color in Big Lake so I thought I'd post a review. In Oct 2015, I went in to have a trim and to have my hair color adjusted from a mistake I had made at home (I tried to lighten a box dye I had used a couple months before but the only parts that lifted were my roots - I later learned this is a common at-home mistake). We decided that the outcome would be best if we dyed my hair the brown color that was on my ends and add caramel highlights to lighten my hair. The stylist was way too inexperienced for this. Four hours and $140 later, I had almost black hair, barely visible highlights, and she had unevenly cut off 4" of my hair. I went back to have the manager fix it and she did a very nice job. All said and done, over 6" of hair was cut off and it was incredibly darker, the very opposite of what I wanted. She told me it would soften over time, which it did but I was left with a definite line of demarcation as it grew. Fast forward to Feb 29, 2016. I scheduled a color appt with the manager because I was happy with her capabilities last time. I didn't want to go as dark (again, I was looking to go lighter) but I wanted everything to blend into the chocolate brown color that the dye faded into so I asked for low lights and highlights and showed her some inspiration photos. I have visible red/orange undertones in my hair so she suggested I do a root touch-up in a red-brown color and add some highlights. I wasn't sure how this would blend with the demarcation line but she assured me it would. Hey, I'm clearly not a cosmetologist so I trusted her opinion. She quoted me $54 for a root touch up, 10 foils around my face, and a trim. She said the quote could change a little depending on how much product she used. $103 later...here's what it looked like (first, second and third photos). I was sent home with a wet head and no idea of how bad this really was. It wasn't until my hair dried that I realized it was a mess. And yep, my hair was parted down the middle, as seen in the photos, when the foils were put in. Also, there was no product in my hair, the highlights on one side just naturally looked...greasy? I went to another salon for advice. They told me they wouldn't want to touch what the stylist did and the best thing to do would be to go back and get it fixed or let it grow out. Let it grow out? Not an option. Since the only option seemed to be to go back, that's what I did. The manager was professional and appreciated that I communicated with her that I was unhappy but the fix she did was not nearly as nice as the first time. The highlights were chunky and still uneven and my hair was pretty dark again. See fourth and fifth photos. I left the salon feeling ambivalent. Though it was an improvement, it still wasn't anywhere near what I had asked for. After 4 appointments with almost 4 hours at each appointment, 2 of which were color corrections, I was left with hair I hated and a lot of money out of pocket. Unfortunately, I won't be returning to this salon for color again or any others in the chain for that matter. Too risky and the pricing structure is a little too loose for my liking. I will say that my haircuts by the manager were great, hence the 2 stars, but I have a tried-and-true stylist in Maple Grove that I have since returned to for the care of cutting my hair. As a side note, because I was so incredibly unhappy with my hair color, I decided to correct it myself. That line of demarcation and the ensuing dark dyes from the salon were very irritating and I knew the only way to "fix" the issues would be to use a color remover and bleach it out. With the help of the hubby (and hundreds of blogs and YouTube videos), I lightened my own hair without incident and I LOVE the results! See sixth photo. I would have paid someone a lot of money to do this for me before I knew I could do it myself. ;) In all seriousness, this gives me a perfect canvas to start over in any way that I choose without having a dark band in my hair. UPDATE 5/2/16: I noticed that the salon's profile pic on Yelp was changed to the blonde hair photo I posted in my review. I contacted the business and asked that it be removed since it was misleading, it was a correction my husband and I did, not the salon. The owner responded and said she removed it as the profile pic on FB, which I hadn't even noticed. She also said she was told this pic was taken by a stylist at the salon. After more exchanges she went on to say that Yelp automatically uploaded my photo as their profile pic and the only way my pic could be removed is if I deleted my photos and/or review. I'm no Yelp expert but I do know that I can change my profile pic as I choose. I'm downgrading my rating of this salon from 2 stars to 1 star for the manipulation I feel she was attempting.

When I returned home and really looked at the cut, I was in tears! I notified the salon and spent a week trying to get in touch with the manager. Once I finally got to speak to her, she just gave me the owners email and took my number to give to the owner. She never spoke with me. Only dealt with me through email. I wanted my money back. $130 for the worst haircut and color I have EVER had! When they told me I was not going to get a refund, I offered them 3 days to make things right or I would let others know so no one else gets ripped off by them. She then said, and I quote, "it is our policy not to get that cash". End quote. I do not recommend this salon to anyone.
