In our situation, this company was neither competent nor honorable in correcting their mistakes. Disregarding the Bosch installation manual, they installed a heat pump system in an inside corner, directly underneath our bedroom windows and less than two feet from our neighbor's bedroom wall. The noise was so objectionable that we couldn't sleep in our bedroom and our neighbor said that it was so loud that they would need to move if it wasn't corrected. Still, it took two years and an appeal to Bosch to get AMS to move the unit, which they did in January to a location of their choosing. Unfortunately, their technicians did not properly prepare the ground under the new location. In April, the rhubarb that had been in that location grew so strongly that it tipped the unit enough that it was in danger of falling over. We secured the unit with a tether and reported the problem. AMS sent the technician, who had installed the unit in that location, to investigate. He admitted that he had noticed something under the new location, but proceeded without removing it, thinking that it wouldn't be an issue. AMS then charged us for the technician's visit and has refused to correct the situation unless we pay for the procedure. The problem remains unresolved and AMS has not responded to our objections. The unit remains tilted. Had I seen the many negative reviews on this company, we would never have contracted with them for this $30,000+ project. Maybe I shouldn't be shocked by some of the negative reviews, there is often some disgruntled customer that tries to turn positives into negatives. Needless to say, I'll address some possible concerns. I've used AMS for 2 complete HVAC systems after moving a few times. Yes, they are not the most inexpensive but they install the best product you can buy, and do it very well with expert tradesmen (ie their staff). My advice, don't go to a high quality business expecting discount prices. I'm pretty sure they understand they deliver a great product and are not willing to sacrifice their product / reputation to make the few unreasonable customers (briefly) satisfied (ie until their next complaint). I have found their customer service to not only be extremely responsive, but attentive, honest, and loyal. After our final move, we (voluntarily) pay the annual fee to have additional on demand service from experts, during off hours. That is absolutely fair. read more

Just recently (DEC 2025) had a roof top heat pump installed. They were all very accommodating to get the work done in a timely fashion. The installation crew were all very respectful in keeping the home clean and Christopher, the team leader was always available for any questions. I finally have heat! I'm very happy with the whole experience from AMC, from the initial visit from Joe to the install crew, and to the office staff. I would highly recommend AMC for any HVAC project. read more

I don't understand the poor reviews. AMS installed our Unicco AC system in 2009 and has serviced it every year since then; providing excellent customer service. We chose them to begin with because it was a complicated installation and they were the only ones who seemed to know precisely what they were doing - which turned out to be true. After 16 years, we weren't feeling cool enough so they came out on the first hot day, found the problem and corrected it. We are now nice and cool during the current heat wave - it's worth paying for people who know what they're doing in my opinion. read more

PRICE GOUGE ALERT! Customer service is rude, too. They make you pay overtime fees even if you call before closing. They also make you pay an $800 annual contract and won't come out for any service if you don't have it. Then, they still charge you for the service call, which today was $340 to tell us we have a faulty power switch on a furnace they installed 3 years ago. We're still going to have to pay them another several hundred dollar fee when they come out to put the part for the inferior product they put in 3 years ago. We are paying these people more than we make in income. read more

Had this company service my 3 yr old furnace. To clarify there were no problems with the system to begin with...just needed a cleaning. The unit has been regularly serviced since installation by a private plumber who passed. As a part of the service they did a test on the expansion tank and overpressurized it. This caused the valve to fail. They would only repair the valve if I paid for the repair. Come to find out from my oil company that this commonly happens and they never run this test because of frequent failures when overpressurized. Advanced Mechanical did not advise of this prior to testing. Yet expected to charge for the repair. Needless I went to an alternate company that did the repair for $130 less than this company. Additionally in the service order the tech acknowledged he didn't have all the correct tools to do the job. Why come out without the correct tools initially? Would advise against hiring this company. Spilled oil during a furnace tune up and did not clean up. Had to call to have them come back to clean up and then they gave me a super high estimate for a repair, not without their "supervisor" telling me I was wrong to not want my basement to smell like oil for a month an that implying it was 'not a big deal' that his guy had spilled a toxic chemical in my basement and did not bother to clean it up. FYI - I had my original oil company (Dunn Oil) come back and fix the oil filter and do the repair for 1/3 the price. AVOID AMS. read more

So I posted a positive review a couple of years ago. I have used AMS for 3 install projects. One of these projects was the installation of 2 High efficiency Carrier Heat pumps with all new line sets and ducts. We are at 3 years and for the second time in a month I am getting a low pressure fault indicating that the unit most likely has a leek as it was tested to have almost no refrigerant. One month on from the initial visit and $2500 and growing cost, AMS is telling me they don't know where the leak is coming from and will have to keep looking. I had simultaneously scheduled another repair person to look into my 3 year old Viessmann furnace that was not firing so canceled AMS that was to arrive 20 minutes later. The other company repairman would have had me purchase an expensive part.(They normally service Lennox Boilers) I called the AMS office back after 2pm wanting a second opinion and they where nice enough to resend their person that same day. The gentleman cleaned everything and explained what was wrong. No expensive parts needed. Just a life saver when both your heat and hot water work on the same system. Brenda - very unprofessional Customer Service. She should be embarrassed by the way AMS has trained her to talk to customers. Is hanging up on customers a normal practice for AMS? AMS sold us a water heater 4 years ago - its now leaking and well within the 6 year Manufacturer's warranty window - but AMS wants us to pay ~$800 to install the replacement. What? The labor costs should certainly be included in warranty resolution, or at least the Manufacturer's problem - not the customer with a faulty product. I asked AMS to replace a leaking relief valve (a common $15 part available at dozens of retail outlets) and clean our Buderus boiler. After almost four hours, they told me that the boiler's heat exchanger was leaking, and that I would need an entire new system, including a new indirect hot water tank. They also mentioned in passing that they replaced a cracked condensate trap, which I later found online for $45. I went to the Buderus website, and discovered that they weren't listed as a service provider. I called a certified provider, and they replaced the heat exchanger and a couple of other parts for a fraction of the $10,000 AMS had quoted me for a new system. The new guy also found that my relief valve problem was caused by a broken bladder in the expansion tank - something the AMS tech missed. Anybody can have a bad day, but I think all AMS customers should be concerned about their pricing approach. They "bundle" the parts and labor into each line item, so there's no way to figure out whether you're paying a fair price for anything. My relief valve replacement was billed at $216.12. Strangely, the condensate trap replacement (a more expensive part) cost less: $201.83. Add that to the service call cost ($199) and a junk charge for "parts acquisition", and I ended up with a bill for $745 for a boiler cleaning and $60 worth of parts. I appears that they billed me about $200/hour for their time when all was said and done - hardly the "discount rate" that they promise! read more

Met with AMS and Joe around 2 years ago to help with a heating and cooling solution for our house. Basic unit function and service have been problematic along the way, and as of today (middle or winter) my $6000 Carrier heat pump unit is still not functioning properly and now the motor is burnt out. The Carrier condenser unit will freeze up as water melts off the roof and accumulates on the fan and motor causing it to freeze when temps drop. Multiple service calls, and the suggested moving of temp controller on the unit still have not helped. The purposed solution? AMS wanted us to build and pay for a separate roof off the middle of our house to cover the unit!?! Due to the unsightliness and expense this did not seem like a reasonable option for us. Guess I wish they had installed it under the 2 story deck 30 feet away? In my opinion AMS should do more to take ownership of the evident issue, and work towards an agreeable and effective solution. These folks are always personable, and Joe did seem fairly knowledgeable, but I can't recommend their services because this heat pump system has not worked as sold/designed. In speaking with other HVAC companies that install these Carrier units, they appear to be mostly trouble free when matched and installed properly. Not sure what the best answer is, (besides maybe moving the unit?) but I was hoping for a more proactive approach from the company that designed and installed it. In addition to this major functionality issue, there are some other points of aggravation.... -Can't keep my scheduled appointments. The last 2 scheduled appointments I made with AMS were missed. No call to explain or reschedule. Also no reminders beforehand (apparently the automated reminder system is working....for everyone but me) These appointments are always during the day so I need to take time out of work to be available, frustrating when they are missed. -We'll call you back! Heat pump motor was diagnosed as broken by tech on 12/18/18 fast fwd to Yesterday (scheduled appointment 1/2/19)... Me: (at 2 o'clock) "where is the technician? I thought he was scheduled for between 8-10 today?" Brenda: "oh I though we were scheduled for 2-4? Me: "Hmm though I scheduled with Marsha for 8-10....but ok I'll see him soon" Brenda: "Ok I'll check with Charlie to make sure we're on track for today and call If there are any problems" As of now, 9pm the next day, still no show and no call back. I think it reasonable to expect a call or some correspondence in these situations. At least the 2nd time this has happened. So as I am writing this, I'm dreading having to follow up with AMS/Brenda (again) tomorrow to see why the tech Charlie couldn't come out as scheduled to replace the prematurely burnt out motor on my unit, and why I didn't get any calls back yesterday (or today). Appears service/support could be improved, the better business bureau gives them a B-, which seems generous based on my interactions . The tech who came out was plenty nice and informative. However, the cost of a visit that was supposed to just be an estimate was outrageous. $160 for 25 minutes of the tech shining a flashlight places to ultimately tell me it wasn't a plumbing issue and he did not want to "take my money." When I first scheduled this visit I had asked for an estimate only and after the visit they decided to bill it as a service call instead when no actual work was completed. None of this was disclosed to me over the initial phone call. I am still waiting for a call back from the office to help me resolve this. So now I am out $160, still have no hot water and low pressure and have to call someone else to come help me. read more

Most important to me, they've helped be prioritize my wants within my budget and have always been up front about costs and time. AMS was called in early June of 2011 for a non functioning central air unit. They supposedly "fixed" the leak and refilled with freon. A month later the system was not cooling. Again, they "found" the leak and "fixed" it but only for 2 weeks. In disgust I went to another company not wanting to waste anymore time or money. read more

Always had great service from them in the past. they did good work,spent probably 20-30,000 with them, but ethically I have a problem with them.Just replaced the compresor on one of my roof units. Gave me the quote ahead of time. All fixed and the as they were leaving the tech told us not to run it. because the coil needed cleaning and the filters needed replacing. He took the filters with him and said he would be back the next day. never showed, never heard from him. i finally called and asked what happened. The manager Brenda denied everything the tech told us. They tried to sell me a maintenance package of 183.00 per unit. Why am I mad. They fixed my condensor for $2800.00 and then told me I could n't use it unless I paid to have the coil cleaned. They said it would damage it. I felt they should have cleaned the coils at the time OR included it in the intial price of $2800.00. Sometimes you get what you pay for. In 2009, we chose AMS to install a Unico high velocity A/C system because we didn't have the ductwork for a traditional system. We knew from past experience that proper installation was the key to success and AMS was the only company whose plan made sense. We are so happy we chose them! Their price was close to our next best quote and they would would complete the job in 1 1/2 days by using a team - the other contender would take 6 days. AMS would install the system in our attic ( a nasty job) and the vents would look like recessed lights. The other co would install it in the basement and put vents in my hardwood floors. Even I know cold air drops - why force it upward from the basement and ruin my floors? That was the deciding factor for me. AMS also took us to view their work at the home of a happy customer. Bottom line is that AMS is professional, keeps their promises and cleans up after themselves. They have excellent employees and are totally reliable. We have been using them for annual checkups for 8 years now and couldn't be happier. Highly recommend! read more

Mid-December of 2015, AMS came out to do a maintenance and check-up on a Buderus boiler. I paid $199 for this service. At the time, they noted three issues: the exhaust pipe had developed a hole and gases were exhausting into the basement, the Vortech needed a rebuild, and the HSI needed replacement. I said to go ahead and schedule the work, especially the exhaust pipe repair, since it was a safety issue. The tech said they needed to order parts and would call me when they came in. I didn't get a call in December. I waited a few more weeks (to mid-January) and called them. They said my work order had dropped through the cracks. They ordered parts and scheduled a tech to come out. He did work on the boiler and exhaust pipe, and said my job was complete. I paid him and he left. Then I looked at the bill, and saw that only two of the three jobs had been done. I called AMS multiple times, since they did not know the status of the work the first time I called, and they said that the work order for the third job (HSI) had been missed, so the tech didn't know he was supposed to do it. I asked them to schedule a return visit to do the HSI, and the tech came out the next week. She completed the work but did not know how much to charge me, so she said I would be billed. When I got the bill, I was surprised. The HSI rebuild was quoted to me originally at $200.85. (I still have this paperwork, and this amount is printed on every bill they send me.) They billed me $318.20. I called to say they had agreed in advance not to charge me another service call fee, since this job should have been completed with the other work. The person I needed to talk to never called me back. I paid them $200.85 (the original quoted amount) but they are now billing me the additional money plus late fees. I never had problems with AMS in prior years - they did what they said they would do, and they were organized and professional. I am really angry that they are trying to bill me more than $100 over the original quote without ever telling me how or why the price increased. read more
