The whole place seemed extremely chaotic. The pre exam rooms had no ceiling and you could hear the exam next to you.. very old outdated building. After 25 min the first lady took me.. she did tests after she was done she said I have to see if they want me to do more of course they did.I was then brought to another lady she did more testing....they brought to a man he did more testing..I feel this was all to prolong the situation because the dr was backed up.They really need to stop over booking. The patients time is valuable too. It was now going on 2 hrs I had to ask when they were going to call me back. Finally 15 min later the brought me to a room where I waited another 15 min .I was finally seen by the dr. then a few more tests? All this was supposed to be is a cataract appointment.I spent less time with the Dr than anyone else. At checkout I literally had to ask the guy for a print out.It was almost like I was bothering him.I had to walk up to him he didn't even call me up. They want to see me in a year .I'm wondering if the one in Geneva is any better? If. It for the Dr.Im not sure I would come back.

I brought my 17 month old son in, and after check in the medical assistant nonchalantly informed me the wait would be 60-90 minutes because the doctor "travels between offices." I did a full double take because surely I misheard. But no, I was just distracted by my toddler climbing the eye exam chair that looked like it was out of a 1940s black and white silent horror film. They told me I "should have been informed when I made the appointment," because apparently this is standard practice. In what world? It felt like the old Seinfeld bit: they know how to take the reservation... they just don't know how to hold the reservation. I told them I'd come back in an hour, because trying to entertain a toddler in a waiting room packed like a cattle car and on its fifth episode of Dragon Tales, was not on my to-do list. Their box of broken crayons can only entertain for so long and last I checked I wasn't a magician and can't pull 90 minutes of toddler entertainment out of thin air. To be fair, the medical assistant and doctor were polite, efficient, and clearly doing their best. The front desk staff, however, seemed to be locked in a competition for the Most Unapproachable Human. It was a photo finish. I left with my son's eyes checked and mine rolling as a 2-minute exam turned into a two hour ordeal.

Hi, I'm Caleb Stewart. I originally had Wavelight Optimized LASIK with Dr. Andrew E. Holzman at TLC…read moreRockville's location on August 6th, 2021. Initially, I had a great experience. Every staff member was sweet and I was confident that the surgery would go well. Unfortunately, there were a few red flags that I will list below. 1. The technicians there claimed that my prescription was stable when it wasn't and my vision quickly regressed after a year. Furthermore, I had prior dry eye disease and the technicians lied and stated that it wouldn't be an issue...now I have a severe case years out. 2. I didn't get to meet with my surgeon to discuss risk of complications, if I'm a true candidate or not etc. 3. The staff didn't explain other alternatives such as ICL and didn't give a solid recommendation on what path to take. If I was told to wait until my mid 20s I probably would've had a better outcome and less chance of regression. 4. TLC decided to change the location of the surgery from Tyson's Corner to Rockville last minute also modifying the laser as well which could have had an effect on my overall outcome. Suddenly, when I developed all these complications TLC offered little to no help in contrast to how I was assisted pre-op. I now have day-time starbursts, haloes and severe dry eye which induces irregular astigmatism...causing awful ghosting that can only be possibly fixed through scleral lenses or extensive dry eye treatment. I've had to quit many of my hobbies and it made my quality of life way worse for a while. They only offered "enhancement" surgeries to improve my vision which are not FDA approved and make complications worse for many patients. I'm still not comfortable with my vision at 23, a little over two years out and feel like I got scammed and betrayed by the center. They also didn't give me a refund as well despite my efforts to be polite and courteous about the situation. What makes the situation worse is that I had to go out of my way to see my original surgeon since he opened up his own company just to see what occurred. I was given pupil-shrinking drops and was shrugged off and told that everything was in my head, it was very disheartening. I've had to take so much initiative seeing all kinds of specialists just to get help, it's very draining for a young man to go through and I'm thoroughly disappointed with my experience here. I'll attach some photos below of my prescription before and after and various photos of symptoms that I suffer with to this day. This surgery has ruined my early 20s due to the complications that I face daily. I'm stuck with poor vision that does not hold a candle to how it was before surgery and I am stuck with fluctuating ghosting vision. The center asked that I provide a $200 payment to sign up for a "lifetime plan" to get a second surgery which is not FDA approved. They are a joke. The center only has one line of communication (patient care manager team) and have no ounce of empathy and compassion in their bodies whatsoever. If you develop complications and issues, expect to be on your own and not get any assistance at all from TLC. Whenever I would reach out for genuine help and the ability to obtain a refund or at least some compensation they couldn't do anything. It's hilarious because whenever I mention making a payment towards my surgery they are enthusiastic and respond quickly but other than that, crickets. Please do not get refractive surgery if it's not needed, my life is now ruined thanks to these people. I can't enjoy my hobbies 100% like I used to or start to drive. My vision is like this day in day out 24/7 to give you an idea - https://imgur.com/a/gZnTHj8 https://imgur.com/a/2swivr9 I'll be posting pictures below of how my vision was and my general interactions with both Dr. Holzman, his company and TLC.

Headed home on Sunday and had a local Toronto AM talk radio station on and they were doing a show on LASIK. Being myopic I was interested in the technology for possible use on me. They had this doctor on who was so interesting and so knowledgable. The fact is he practically invented modern Ophthalmic surgery. As the show went on I was stunned to find out this man had his office in Hinsdale and hell's bells I lived in Oak Brook. I made the appointments to get it done. Dr. Foulkes was even more engaging in person and we talked shop and also talked about an array of topics all of which he was seriously prepared for discourse. This is one smart man. I told him after the exam that if he could get me to 20/40 I was in. He fixed me with a penetrating gaze and said: "If I can't get you to 20/20 I won't take you." Well he looked at my tests snd said he could 20/20 me. I did the procedure and went home, napped for four hours and KAZAAAM! I could see again. It was a religious experience. Then I found out Dr Foulkes failed to get me to 20/20. I tested at 20/15. An in the park Grand Slam. My vision is still 20/15 and I'm 64 years of age. Of course I wear readers, but nothing prescription. Just Dollar Store magnifiers. Dr. Foulkes is a bespoke health care provider and you will pay a small premium to see an industry legend. Pay the two dollars. Get your Lasik from the best, or go blind like the rest. That's a little hyperbole. Are you seeing like looking through runny egg yolks? You need an appointment with the good Dr. Foulkes! It's all so very basic, go see Dr. Foulkes for your Lasik. I needed a seeing eye dog when I went to see him. I entered his reception area and grabbed the dog by the tail and swung that dog all over the room. Patients were diving for cover. Dr Foulkes intervened and asked what I was doing?I explained I was just taking a look around. I got a million of them. How many doctors do you meet in your lifetime that decades later you talk about in ways reserved for the veneration of saints? Dr. Foulkes is that Doctor, though he is a totally friendly guy who I bonded with in minutes. Oh yes Dr. Foulkes is a saint. He is just too busy to know it. He literally changed my life.

I originally tried to go to 'Chicago Cornea Consultants' because that is where my eye doctor tried to send me. When I went to my consultation I was very grossed out by their facility and found out the only reason my eye doctor sent me there was because he had a deal with them and received money for each person he sent there. I called my insurance company after the consultation (which I should have done at the beginning of this process) and found out I could get a discount through them if I went to LasikPlus. My insurance company (Blue Cross Blue Shield - HMO) made my free consultation appointment with LasikPlus on my behalf which made me feel safe and secure. Right when I walked into the LasikPlus facility in Schaumburg, I felt so welcome and at ease. Getting lasik is a nerve-racking experience and the staff at LasikPlus is next level. Everyone I talked to was kind and open to answering any questions I had (trust me, I had a lot). During my consultation they determined I was a perfect candidate. Not sure if this made a difference, but at the beginning of this process I did not wear my contacts for almost 3 weeks before my consultation and never again after that (I ran out of contacts but this was a suggestion from my eye doctor). After determining I was a good candidate, they told me if I scheduled my surgery ASAP I would get an additional discount due to scheduling early. I said HELL YES, and had my surgery the next week. The day of the surgery was pretty crazy. There was a snow storm (I got it done on January 23rd). Something crazy happened and a man who got lasik earlier that day broke the machine. This meant that no one could get their surgery on that machine for the day. Everyone who was scheduled for surgery that day in Schaumburg were sent to the Oak Brook location since that location luckily had no appointments for the day. I still had the awesome Dr. Horn do the surgery. Even with all the chaos, LasikPlus handled it flawlessly and I was home faster than I expected. They also gave a discount due to everything that happened with the change in location. My actual surgery lasted all of 10 minutes, which was wild. My brother drove me home and I fell asleep immediately. I would suggest getting your prescriptions BEFORE the surgery because we stopped at the pharmacy on the way home and it delayed me getting to sleep as soon as possible. I would recommend LasikPlus to anyone looking to get lasik. I am so happy with this investment and kind of can't shut up about it. I went to my 1-day follow up appointment THE NEXT MORNING with 20/15 vision. Unbelievable, perfect vision. FYI - I would 100% recommend anyone who deals with allergies to get the surgery done in the winter so you don't have to deal with your eyes itching while you are going through the healing process. ****IMPORTANT**** I did not drink enough water or eat enough the day I got lasik. I got dehydrated and after I took my "after surgery nap", I fainted in the bathroom putting my eyedrops in. This had NOTHING to do with LasikPlus and everything with me being on a stupid diet lol. I just want to warn anyone getting this surgery to eat that day. I was completely naive.

So I scheduled it right then and there but I was not available to get it done on 3/31 I needed to wait until 4/2. So a week before my surgery I called just to confirm that the $300.00 discount was still going to be honored and the man told me no way. Be very careful what they say there and make sure you get it in writing before leaving.

I live in the city but made the trip out to Arlington Heights for my consult, then went to their Lombard location for the surgery about two and a half weeks later, and came back to Arlington Heights the next day for the post op. Totally worth it. From start to finish, everything moved efficiently but never felt rushed. On the day of surgery, they took their time with the preoperative steps, did another full workup, checked my corneas again, and the surgeon personally evaluated me before getting started. That gave me real peace of mind. People kept insisting I would need a Valium or something to calm my nerves, but I didn't need it at all. The team was calm, confident, and made me feel completely safe. When it was time, the actual procedure felt like it took three minutes, and that was it. They made sure I understood everything before and after surgery, gave me a full kit with everything I needed, and treated me with respect the whole way through. Now I can see so crystal clear, I'm babying my eyes like they're made of gold. It feels illegal to see this perfect. Already hit 20/20 the day after surgery and looking forward to hitting that 20/15 soon. For the price, it is a no brainer. This is not a big box conveyor belt type of place. It is professional, personal, and thorough. Highly recommend if you want real results without the fluff.

I did ask about PRK because I read about it in the reviews and the doctor told me that I didn't need to worry about it. Little did he know, that I did need to know about it. I was one of those patients that were really nervous about the process. I think the employees working with the doctor need to do a better job at comforting us very nervous patients. First of all, it doesn't help waiting two hours in the waiting room for your turn. It just made me more nervous and because of Covid, I couldn't have anyone with me. While waiting, I did notice that the procedure was taking people an average of just 10 minutes. Anyway, continuing on, I went and during my procedure on my second eye, I flinched. This must have damaged my flap and therefore I had to switch over to PRK for my left eye. This has changed my recovery almost completely. With the lasik eye, you can see perfectly almost immediately. I had no pain in recovery. It was really amazing and just felt more grateful to my creator for such technology. Seeing is truly a blessing! With the other eye, PRK, recovery is a lot different. I didn't know, I didn't do my research because I was told I don't need to worry about it. Even in my papers, there's a question that if you want PRK or not, I circled "no" and then had to change it during the procedure. Now a week later, my left eye is still blurry, but that's normal for PRK. There was a lens over my eye that served as a bandage that was removed yesterday. People who did PRK say that it takes time for the vision to improve. You have to keep up with your drops and I'm hoping that my vision will be great in a few weeks. Overall, it's a great office. Dr. Berger has done the most amount of lasik surgeries in the area. It's a very easy procedure, so don't flinch! You'll be fine. Highly recommend and their price is unbeatable.
