Here's my story (the summarized version anyway): Day one of my vacation, almost every computer that I touched died in some spectacular way. While running the Windows repair tool on my computer I discovered that the OS, couldn't even be found, at all. Great. This means a total rebuild of the OS. This is the third computer that I was in the process of repairing, at the same time. I inserted the external USB drive on one of the last working Comps in the house, and installed the Windows 10 boot/install program to it. I then noticed that I now had two USB devices labeled "Windows 10 startup utility." I had just succeeded in installing a boot partition over our 10 Terabyte backup external hard drive. Yes, this was a "rookie mistake," I can freely admit that. Anyways let's just get to the problem at hand: I have a 10 TB hard drive, with 9.8 TB of unallocated Space on it...and a small Windows Installation partition, but let's not think about that. ANYTHING involving 10 TB will take days, and it did. I purchased a program capable of actually SEEING the unallocated space, and set to work recovering files. 27 hours of scanning later and it had found, "files." All file titles and locations were lost, but they were there. I bought a new HD to back up to, and set to recovering. I then waited for 4 days, with very little sleep, and constant stress for the result. Success! I had "recovered"...4 Terabytes of random and unnamed files, total. The last 6 were still waiting to be recovered. Oh wait! Now they have little red "exclamation points" next to them, what does this mean? Instructions from the programs website: "re-scan the hard drive." It was at this point that my Sister recommended finding a professional data recovery place. I browsed Google and came across these guys. I looked at the website and thought "yep, this is a website designed by guys who only do one thing: recover data." I called them and had a great conversation with one of the workers there, and decided that this was the place to go. I drove down there 1 hour later, talked with Joe at the front desk and got the ball rolling. Every step of the process was explained to me, but in a kind and professional way. I was referred here by the Apple Store at UTC, like Michael F. below. My motherboard of my Macbook Air died, and in the process of trying to diagnose that problem, I had corrupted my SSD (as ADS discovered). Of course, I hadn't backed up my data in a couple months, and in that intervening time I had uploaded many photos from trips, and created a few very important files. Advanced Data Solutions was able to recover my data in a very reasonable amount of time, and as far as I can tell, all the data I hadn't backed up is in there. I am a professional photographer for the past 10 years and had one of photographer's worst nightmares happen; and had NEVER happened until now. My hard drive was accidentally dropped, started clicking, and didn't open on my computer. It had recent unedited photos of a wedding client on there! Imagine that.... Advance Data Solutions is awesome!!! I was pretty desperate, the hard drive for my business failed after trying to move it from one computer to different more powerful computer. For some crazy reason after moving it, the drive would no longer boot up. I thought I had lost all of the data. I originally took the hard drive to a different computer repair shop. They kept the hard drive for two and a half weeks with no results. They told me that my known and verified good drive was corrupt. I was extremely disappointed. I called Advance Data Solutions. I gave them a description of the failure, and how the failure came to be. I gave them the hard drive. The gentleman at the counter explained to me what he thought happened and that their team would give it the best attention available. He said that he was pretty confident that he could get the data from the hard drive. He called me the next day with great news. He was able to recover the data, including the programs. I provided him with a second hard drive. He was able to re-image the second hard drive with the recovered data from the original hard drive. I was ecstatic!! However, my woes did not stop there. Sooo, what I thought never could happen to me did. I spilled boiling hot soup on my Mac Book Pro & it damaged my computer to the point of no longer working. I never backed up my 6 years of data on an external hard drive so the initial thought of what had just happened was devastating. I took my Mac Book Pro to both Fry's & CryWolf. Our firm had the catastrophic failure of two servers. Our primary RAID 5 server and the Synology backup. We thought that all data had been lost. They were able to make a competent and partially usable back up of the primary server that had two disks completely fail and the others degraded. Where they really were amazing is that they were able to find a complete back up on our Synology server. They are great to deal with and understand the importance of time. Would like to thank Joe and Tim for doing a great job in recovering data from a hard drive failure. I recently had a server failure due to a power outage which caused severe firmware and media damage on the hard drives. Both drives deemed unrecoverable though they were setup as Raid 1 but Advanced Data Solutions were able to repair and recover data. Moreover, this happened on a Sunday and had to be put back online asap. I was able to contact Joe after hours and they worked on recovery overnight. By Monday afternoon, the server was back online. I'm sure they can fix your data problem but I felt like these guys take advantage of a bad situation and try to extort as much money as they can out of you. I had a very bad experience with them and would not come to them after my experience. I took a drive to them and they told me that they'd call back in 3 hours after the free diagnosis. No call all day. I called back the next morning and they said that they'd call me back in an hour. About 2 hours later, they called me back saying that it'd be $1900 + parts to repair my job. I told them that I didn't have that kind of money and was hoping that it'd be $500 to repair it. They have a sign in the front desk that says "All Repairs are $500 - $1900 + parts". They told me that they wanted me to be happy and would fix it for $800 if I gave them good Yelp reviews. I said I would think about it. Now, I figured the high end would be if they had to rebuild the hard drive and put in a lot of time and work. My drive just froze on a hard reboot and I could hear the spinning noise inside so I didn't think it was a big deal. I didn't like the gist of where things were going and I felt kind of scammed so I decided to go pick up my disk. I came and told them that I wanted to pick up my disk and they gave me a long hard sell about how they could fix it for $500 but if I took it out of here, they couldn't guarantee it and the price may go up. I decided to take it home anyhow and looked up a few Youtube videos. Namely this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5Y7BniaRXg was super helpful. I opened it up and found a stuck head and just pushed it back home just like in the video. It took me $5 for a small screw driver from Fry's and 5 min to open the disk and push it back and close it up. It literally took me, a novice, 10 minutes to watch a video, 5 minutes to fix it and a $5 torx screw driver which I'm sure they have in stock. So they knew that they could just fix this problem in no time (because they opened it up and saw the inside) but totally tried to screw me for as much money as they could, and when I told them no, they tried to get me to pay whatever they figured they could get out of me. I don't like to do business with that kind of people. I suggest you try to find someone else as well. read more
