Because more positive reviews about my experience would be redundant, I'll instead aim to disprove the one-star reviews who call this place a "scam." This place is not a scam for several reasons: 1. Appraisals and estimates are free. You are in no way obligated to accept their offer, and indeed, ADS is willing to have a bit of flexibility. 2. You know EXACTLY what you're getting. They ask for your permission to open your drive, and they also ask if there are any files that they should prioritize recovering. In my case, they were able to save everything, even the files I didn't have prioritized. 3. They explain to you exactly what is wrong with your drive before they ask if you'd like to proceed. 4. You do not pay for the data recovery until you've sat down on their computer and looked at the data yourself. I'm a musician, so I even had Joe hook up speakers to the computer to make sure all my song files were still listen-able. And they were. 5. These services can be pricey. But again, YOU decide after the appraisal if you'd like to proceed with their price, or if you'd like to take it elsewhere. There is no obligation or strong-arming. And the price for me did not change between the appraisal and the final cost. In conclusion, the one-star reviews make it sound like these guys snatch up your drives, destroy them, and then charge you insane prices. Dropped off my Hard Drive to see if they could salvage the data. After about a week, I didn't hear anything, so I called in for an update during operating hours. Gentleman said that the customer service line was busy and that they would call me right back. Cool. I didn't hear anything for 2-3 more days so I called back again. Gentleman asked me for a work order number, and I didn't have one to give since I never received one, and gave him my name and information instead. He said "yep, we have your SSD and laptop here." I told him I dropped off a regular HDD and not an SSD, and certainly not a laptop. He puts me on hold for a bit, comes back, assures me he has found my hard drive, and gives me a work order number. Says they are still in progress. I wait until what has now been 30 days without a call/update and call back (on a Sunday, which I suppose it not operating hours) and they answer. Tell me that I need to text the line with my work order number and name, and they will get back to me during operating hours. After texting, I don't hear anything for multiple days (again) so I just decide to pick it up, as I can't deal with this any longer. Just way too many lapses in service to ignore. read more

If you are bringing a Mac here DO NOT DO IT! I held off writing this review because in the end they did not charge me for the terrible service they did to my 2016 iMac. But new developments have made it so I felt the need to let others know how terrible an idea it would be to go here. I only went here after my hard dr had a massive failure out of the blue on a recommendation and because the Apple stores were closed for repairs due to Covid. I first went in 2/1 and was told on the phone they could see my computer within a week and that the repair would not take very long. I do not want to bore with all the details, suffice it to say it took until 3/23 for me to get it back. This was after they never called me to update when they said they would, short of the first time they called to say the needed to take the screen off to remove and replace the old hard dr. I always had to call them and there was always some new excuse as to why it would be another week. One time it was because they cracked the screen, another because they ordered a new screen and it arrived broken, another because they didn't have the tape in stock to put it back together, another because the hard dr THEY recommended to me didn't work with the computer. This is my main work computer so I ended up after a few weeks of this having to buy a new one. Finally when I was able to pick up they didn't even put the screen back on correctly. There was a visible gap between screen and computer base. I pointed it out and they said "oh you can leave and we'll fix it" this made me wonder why it wasn't done right in the first place; and no I did not want to leave with them any longer. And not only that there was a huge scratch across the front that was not there before. You can see both these in the attached photo. Since I purchased a new computer I sold this now old one to my sister for her work. She, for the last few months, did not use it until this week. She set it up and informed me the freaking startup button fell into the computer. I have had Macs for 10 years and NEVER had a button perform like that so putting 2 and 2 together this company did not even put it back together right (fairly unsuprisng considering the screen wasn't on correctly). To which after taking to Apple they confirmed "the computer was not put back together correctly." This was the final straw with this place and my not sharing this on Yelp. How does a professional computer repair place NOT put a computer back toegher correctly? They acted like they had worked with Macs but I feel pretty certain they had never seen one in their lives based on how bad they did with mine. Also now because of their inability to perform the job correctly we need to pay Apple $500 to take apart the machine and reassemble correctly. If you care about your Mac DO NOT GO HERE! These guys are great and really know their stuff. Woke up one day to a totally borked 3TB WD black drive; got a good 10 years out of it but didn't have the presence of mind to back it up. Fiddled with it a bit but quickly realized I was out of my depth. Took it to a smaller shop and they had no idea what was wrong. Advanced Data Solutions found out within a week that the drive had multiple fatal issues including mechanical and 1000s of bad sectors ouch. Got a reasonable quote and they had it fixed within a few days. Data looks great, staff was courteous and professional. I have an external hard drive that was accidentally formatted by software. So it functions perfectly fine. I took it to these guys. Right before I was about to leave the guy gave me a page to sign. It was a full page of text, but I don't sign things without reading them. (I learned the hard way) The first clause of this "contract" basically said that they were not responsible if they damaged the hard drive. Now, I could see if my hard drive was broken, and something was frozen inside, and in trying to get it unfrozen they broke it. That's one thing, but my hard drive works I just needed them to retrieve the data from it. Clause 8 also states that they are not responsible for damaging the hard drive. Clause 12 says that I need to purchase a hard drive to store the recovered files. (He stated this did not pertain to me). There are 27 clauses on this page. I said that I would sign that I agree to all of them except these 3. He said I was being nit picky. I told him if I'm being nit picky then he is as well. He said well then we can't help you. I'm sorry but if you're a mechanic and you wreck a persons car while test driving it, you are responsible for the damages. This should be no different. If they would add to that clause something to the effect of this does not pertain to data retrieval only on functioning hard drives that would be something I could work with. Could not be more grateful for this company. I'm a skateboarding videographer who works with numerous skateboarders and some brands throughout California. I experienced a mechanical failure with my hard drive while attempting to back up all my video files on a cloud storage. The issue wiped the data off my laptop (my only back up at the time), sent my laptop into a boot loop, and crashed the hard drive entirely. This hard drive contained 7 months of skate footage (over 20 hours of video) and I was sure I would never see any of it again.
