Ordered a rifle online and had it set to ship here for FFL transfer. It was close by, and they charge $25 which seems reasonable. At noon I got a notification from UPS saying it was delivered. I showed up at 4:30, and the guy working seemed to not know anything about it. He said it may have been dropped off next door, and he was going to go check. Came right back and said nobody was there, and to call in an hour. We went to lunch across the street, and came back to the shop at 5:30. The doors were closed and locked, with nobody in the shop (even though they supposedly close at 6). I called the number on the business card I had received earlier and it was the shop owner. He said he had just checked next door, and nobody was there, and to call him back on Monday. He didn't realize I was back at his shop, so I took it upon myself to check next door to see if anybody was there. Sure enough, there were a few people there.....and my rifle was sitting right at the front of their business in the box. I called Sam back and told him people were in the building, and he said he'd be right there. Next thing ya know, he comes walking out of the bar that's on the corner of the block he works on. He couldn't stick around to take care of a customer (within business hours) that he had made an appointment with because he was at a bar?? Thanks, but no thanks. Damn decent selection for a small gun store in Round Rock - friendly guys behind the counter, knowledgeable and helpful. Solid offering of used handguns and rifles (with very good prices), as well as ammo, holsters and magazines. The owner teaches a CHL class - so I'll be hittin' them up for my renewal soon. read more

I don't know why the other reviewers have a problem with Sam and his shop. Over the last 10 years I have purchased 14 guns online and used Sam's shop Advanced Armorments as my transfer FFL dealer. Every transaction has been easy and efficient. Just today I picked up 2 rifles, for a total of $50 FFL transfer fees. Sam is easy to work with and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend. Don't expect him to call you when your order arrives... pay attention to the tracking info from the website and show up 1-2 days after delivery. Can't give less than one star, but would if I could. Pre-paid for a gun that had to be ordered that was not in stock. Dealt with Sam Paxman, alleged owner. Gun was supposed to be in the following weekend. I go in to get it and he tells me it's in his wife's car and she is shopping. Bottom line was he would not be able to get the gun until the following week. He said call him on Monday to make special arrangements to pick it up since he was closed Mondays. Called him late Monday morning--said he doesn't have it but would be in in the afternoon. He made no aplologies--could not have cared less. Told him to refund my money, and told him his customer service was shitty. His reply was to yell: "Shitty customer service? Kiss my ass! Fuck you!! I'll giver you your money back!" then hung up. So, I would not recommend this place. Go to a professional that knows what they're doing. Also, always use a credit card to protect yourself from these kinds of Charlatans. read more

I wish you could do a negative review, because Sam Paxman doesn't even deserve 1 star. Bottom line, he's a jerk! His follow up is horrible. Ever do business with somebody who you feel keeps you in the dark because they don't call you to update you nor follow up with promises. I'm beyond irritated with these guys. Now, I have never done business with them before...so rather than just complain I'm going to detail my experience so far exactly as it happened and you can judge for yourself.. Two Saturdays ago I decided to start a project on an old military bolt action rifle. I will be doing the most of this work myself but I needed someone to cut the barrel down 6 inches and re-crown. I googled gun smiths in Round Rock and found this very page. I drove from North Austin to Round Rock to find the open sign on and the door locked. I decided they must have run a quick errand so I sat down on the bench outside to wait. During this time FOUR separate customers showed up wanting to purchase something and all 4 left angry. One even remarked "I'm so sick of this, I'm just going straight to academy next time, these @**holes are never here" After that I decided to try another gunsmith. While i was in my truck searching around for another smith in the area and I saw the two guys in the shop walk out of the bar two doors down and unlock the door. I walked in with my barrel and asked if they could help... "Sure we can do that, leave it here and come pick it up Tuesday" They never took my name down or how much i wanted off the barrel or anything like that. I was a little shocked but I figured...meh it's about as simple a smith job as it gets... I'm sure it will be fine. Fast forward to Tuesday. I call and call and call. Their number has the VM box full and noone is answering the phone. I leave my job (my lunch hour) and drive to Round Rock. I get to the shop and wait in line behind 4 or 5 people before anyone acknowledges I'm even in the store. When I ask the same man I dropped the barrel off with how the job went... His eyes glass over. He mumbles something about how they got a busy because school is back in (wtf?) and I should come get it Thursday. Lame, but whatever. I'm a pretty patient guy. Thursday: same thing.... I call and call and call. I take the second lunch of the week and drive to Round Rock. I get there and they tell me there is a problem with the crown and it will be ready first thing Friday. Again, kind of irritating but whatever... Stuff happens right? I call and call Friday and finally an answer. The guy tells me they are still "working on it" and I should be able to come get it first thing Saturday morning... At least I didn't waste a third 20 mile trip. Saturday morning I call and finally I hear the words "it's finished :-)" BUT the guy hasn't brought it to the shop yet, this time I'll call you as soon as it gets here. FINALLY. In this amount of time I've ordered and received all the parts I needed and I'm ready to get going on the project. I wait around all day and finally start calling around 4 p.m. No answer. I had my wife call because i thought they were ducking my calls. No answer. Finally around 6 I call again and I get an answer. "Yeah uh sorry we were busy" (first time they've apologized). "Tell you what, I'll meet you up at the shop tomorrow (they are closed Sundays and Mondays) just call me in the a.m. I'll be up there anyway." Sunday I call ALL DAY. No answer. I drive to the shop for the 5th time. No one is there. Monday same story but I didn't bother to drive up. They opened up this morning (Tuesday) and I get one of them on the phone. "Yeah I messed my knee up and I'll be at the doctor all day (they are in the shop during this phone call I can hear them ringing up a box of lawman .45 ammo) You'll have to call tomorrow. That's where I'm at with them right now. NEVER AGAIN. This sucks too because I spend TOO MUCH money on a yearly basis on shooting. I shoot a lot and take shooting very seriously. I'm really a patient guy and a loyal customer to my other fav shops in town. If they would have told me 2 WEEKS right up front I would have never bothered anyone. As it stands I've cancelled weekend plans, burned up three lunch hours and driven up there a total of 5 times now. For a simple cut and crown. To me it seems these guys obviously don't want my business. If I don't get my gun back I'm going to report it as stolen or something... I don't even really know what to do. NEVER AGAIN. UPDATE: The day of this posting I had my suspicions about the "injury" the owner had so I went to the shop. I found him sitting behind the counter eating a buncake. He totally blew me off. I told him I had to have the rifle back today and he assured me it would happen. I called all day and drove down there FOR THE 7TH TIME and found the doors locked. I have since reported the rifle stolen with Round Rock PD. Now I know noone who owns a gun shop would steel a 75 dollar russian surplus barrel....... But they sure aren't giving it back to me. Because it's a firearm and the serial is registered to my name I felt like the only thing to do was to report it stolen. DO NOT TAKE YOUR STUFF HERE. read more

Be careful of buying stuff here. I'd would give him a 0 star if I could. I've purchase an aimpoint scope here. It did not turn on, so I've call Aimpoint Tech support. Read tech support the serial number, they just simple told me, sorry, I've purchase a counterfeit. I was very upset, yet was hoping that the dealer would be reasonable about it. I've call him, and told him my story, he told me, it's real and that he purchase it from a very big wholesaler. I ask him, if he would at least contact the wholesaler. He told me no, he would not.
