I switched to Advance Vision after getting my prescription a bit botched at a eyeglass farm that was not necessarily the "best" as advertised. I've been seeing Dr. Shin for 3 years and have had an excellent experience both in the level of professionalism of all the staff and also the outcome of my vision correction. Dr. Shin describes himself as a perfectionist, and really wants to make sure you can see 20/20! I otherwise had been purchasing my contacts online, but when my prescription changed, AVC offered to take back my unused ones (purchased with them) and exchange with my new Rx. I also appreciate that they take my insurance and always have information about how to best take advantage of my policy. read more

I've been going to Advance Vision ever since I was a kid with Dr. O (back in their old office). I see Dr. Shin now that Dr. O is no longer working at Advance Vision. They are still taking covid precautions. They are requiring everyone to still mask and social distance. Call before you go in so they can limit capacity. I did find some relief that some businesses were still taking the extra measure to be careful. Cindy helped me check in and schedule my first appointment. She was very helpful! Luckily, I've been blessed with perfect vision all my life, so never had to deal with contacts. Just the occasional reading/computer glasses. I've seen Dr. Shin for many years now (along with the rest of my family). It was 6 years since the last time I came into the office haha, and still no change. I'm on new insurance due to new work, so I was able to pick out some sunglasses and computer glasses. Patty helped give her input on the frames that I was looking at. It took awhile since my big head couldn't fit a lot of the frames I wanted haha. Appreciate her help and patience :) Might need to be a bit more proactive in calls when things are ready to get picked up since they might get busy / forget when new shipments come in. Excited to have Dr. Shin + team support me and my family in vision care! Special shout-out to Gina and Joanna on getting my computer glasses + sunglasses case Follow the adventure @shoyuthebest on IG! read more

I've had 35 years of great experiences with optometrist Dr Burton Worrell of Advance Vision Center. Contact lenses and glasses. At one point Burt put me on a program called orthokeratology, which uses contact lenses to shape the cornea and improve my vision over time. I chose this path because I wanted better vision but didn't want the risk of radial keratotomy surgery. As of today, I can go without contacts or glasses unless I drive or watch a movie. This is a FANTASTIC outcome. Burt has always been on top of the latest ways to use technology to evaluate my vision and eye health. For example, early on he used a special camera to photograph my retinas. At the start it wasn't covered by my insurance (it is now), and he kept his pricing low (no source of profit here!) so that I could benefit from this advanced diagnostic. Turns out the photos never showed any problems, for which I'm grateful, but it was good to monitor for potential problems like macular degeneration because years later, my mom developed it. Way better to know of a problem early on! These days insurance reimbursements are low, leading many doctors to rush their patients or over-schedule patients. Burt didn't get the memo. He is usually on time, and has always spent the time I need. I tend to ask lots of questions. :^) Burt's staff is professional and courteous, and very much on top of things like insurance and scheduling. Burt is a great optometrist and a great person. read more

The eyes are the windows to the soul ... and I need new windows. Just had a great experience with an eye test and choosing corrective eye glasses. Indeed this is a professional and efficient crew. No fuss and no bother. Doctor if Optometry, Afsaneh Mahajerani, O. D., did a wonderful job testing and measuring my vision. She has a great communication style that empowered me as the decision maker.on what I was wanted from my visit and focused on giving me all the knowledge I needed to make an informed choice. She also had a great sense of humor and laughed at all my 'dad' jokes. Also, Dorothy, the Vision Care Specialist, was wonderful. She helped me select my eyeglasses and helped me navigate what my insurance covered. All in all it was a positive visit. read more

Recommend Dr. Mahajerani. I have been going here for a several years and happy with the care and service.

Dr. M is a great optometrist. She had me in and out. She is knowledgeable and patient. I highly recommend. And I found a beautiful Tiffany frame for my progressive prescription. I would had given 5 stars, but the lining for the progressive was off and I had to get nose pads. Other than that, I recommend. read more

I was experiencing eye dryness for years and would use eye drops hoping it would help solve the symptom but then you have to instill more drops after a few hours. Even tried nightime eye drops/ointments but then I need to wash my eyes in the morning to help clear my vision. On May 15, 2023 I went to Advance Vision Center, the atmosphere was calm and welcoming as soon as I walked in, the staff are friendly and very helpful. State of the Art Vision Technology. I had my first appointment for Dry Eye Therapy Treatment with Dr. Worrell. Praise GOD! From that first appoinrment I've already experience an improvement with the health of my eyes and didn't need eyedrops. There's improvement after each treatment and four months later my eyes are healthy and I have no need for eyedrops. GOD Bless You and Thank you, Dr. Worrell, Cindy, Patty, Norma, Sal, Gina, and Cassandra for all your help, compassion and knowledge you've given on how to take care and keep my eyes healthy. read more

Terrible customer service!! Visited the clinic 5 weeks ago and ordered a pair of glasses. Was promised the shipment would be delivered in less than 2 weeks. When called back to check the status they said it's delayed by a week. Called back today (5 weeks from the original ordered date), now they say it'd take 2 more weeks. Without bothering to give an excuse or an explanation for the delay, she just hung up the phone. Rudest customer service I've ever experienced. Serious waste of time and money, no idea when I will receive the glasses. read more

I was referred to see Dr Shin. He gave me a prescription that didn't work. After a few calls, I was given a slot to see him a few weeks later but was warned to pay if it's not his fault. I agreed and he gave me a new prescription without charge . Unfortunately, I still had issues with 2nd prescription. This time, it took me more calls and much longer (more than a month) to receive a call back. I decided to go to somewhere else to get a new prescription. Due to the severe delay from Dr Shin, my redo was rejected by Costco and I have to pay another $300. The care from this Dr is non existent and I will stay away from him to save time and money! read more

I felt very uncomfortable using a business that always locks their front door, the practice started at the beginning of the pandemic and was understandable then but not anymore. First off, Dr. Shin is probably the best optometrist that I've ever had. I've been going to him for about 7 years or so. Before I went to him, my eyes were terrible. I constantly dealt with dryness, redness, and itchiness. I wanted to tear my eyeballs out. Dr. Shin examined my eyes and determined the best approach to dealing with my issue. It was a long process but he helped me through it. I definitely recommend him and the staff is equally great too. Shoutout to Cindy, Monica, and Aria for always helping me out! read more

So to update my previous story, I called again to check on my glasses and it turns out that the frame I ordered is on back order and won't be back in stock until next month. They couldn't have told me this some time during the 2 weeks I waited for my glasses? Yet another example of the incompetent level of service at this place. Once I finally get my glasses I'll never be going to this place again. read more

On March 24, I started searching for a nearby eye doctor in the VSP network. Advance Vision Center had fairly good Yelp reviews so I clicked on their website, only to find that it was down, in a "buy this website" kind of way. Rather than assume they went out of business, I decided to try their phone number. A woman, seemingly stressed, answered the phone. Although I won't mention her name here, if one of the doctors contacts me, I'll be happy to let him/her know the name she gave me on the phone. She seemed rushed and kept asking me if I wanted to schedule an appointment. I told her I wasn't ready to schedule an appointment until I could ask a few questions about the doctor(s). She kept urging me to schedule an appointment to get my questions answered during an appointment. Finally, she said the doctor wouldn't be in until 12:30, but she would leave a message. That was more than two weeks ago and I never heard back from anyone. Their website now directs to an "under construction" page. The doctors could be great here, but I have such a negative first impression from the website, the stressed assistant and the lack of a return phone call that I decided to go elsewhere. Too many things seem to be falling through the cracks here and there are plenty of other ODs in the area who are paying closer attention to their business and the quality of customer service. read more

I've been coming here for 15 years now and would love to stay for another 15. I started doing the Ortho-K program since third grade with Dr. Oh. She kept both my sister and I with 20/20 vision for our whole lives so far. I have to tell you that it's such a great feeling to be able to pop in your contacts, sleep for a night, and then pop them back out the next day to get perfect vision during the day time. I've never had to wear glasses or contacts when I was awake. Dr. Oh is such a sweet doctor who has no problem talking with patients. She stepped away a few years back to focus more on research so I was switched over to Dr. Shin who's equally as good of a doctor. He's super personable, enjoys having conversations with patients, and he's always asking whether you feel okay with the contacts. He's really great about following up with you if you ever have a problem either through the phone or by email. One time I had an extremely painful situation with my eye because the change in hard lenses scratched some part of my eye. I was basically crying in his office (out of pain) but Dr. Shin was really good at figuring out the problem right away and helping me fix the scratch in the eye. He gave me soft lenses to wear for the time being until it healed, plenty of eyedrops, and some other stuff, all of which I didn't need to pay for. I hope this never happens again, but if it does, I know exactly who to turn to first. read more

Thank you Dr Worrell for reaching out and showing a genuine concern. Within a day or two, the discomfort went away. Thank you once again!

My 11 yrs old have to do a MRI today and was very nerves to the point that he was crying. Dr. Worrell took him out for a walk and explain to him the procedure. He's the kind of doctor you would want to take care of your child. Thank you Dr. Worrell for be so compassionate! read more

Aw, I'm not the first to review! I have been a patient at AVC since 6th grade - that's about 11 years now! I've been seen by all 5 doctors that have been part of this group over the years (Dr. Worrell, Dr. Oh, Dr. Shin, Dr. Limtiaco, and Dr. Hong) and love them all. I personally started out with Dr. Worrell, switched to Dr. Oh in high school to do ortho-k (which I highly recommend - a non-invasive, reversible, and safe method to be free from contacts or glasses during the daytime!), and now am Dr. Shin's patient after Dr. Oh moved on. Dr. Shin is great and I know I can trust my eye care in his hands. He's really chill and a great person to talk to. Actually, that goes for all the doctors. Every doctor in this great group of eyecare providers is super friendly and personable (we affectionately call Dr. Limtiaco as "Dr. Lisa"), and I feel like I have a great relationship with all of them. They are also very professional. I can tell other patients like them too - some of Dr. Worrell's patients come from over 2 hours away! Some fly in from the East Coast! o_O The staff there is amazing as well - I've only seen a couple new faces over the years, but most of them have been the same, which shows that this office has consistent quality. Be sure to look out for Cindy and Ana, the managers - they will take care of all your needs once you're out of the doctor's exam room! As an optometry student myself at UC Berkeley, I can say that this office uses state-of-the-art equipment and technology and all the doctors are extremely well-trained and trustworthy. Dr. Worrell and Dr. Lisa received their degrees from UC Berkeley, and Dr. Shin received his degree from Illinois College of Optometry. These two schools are two of the best in the nation. Dr. Worrell still teaches at several optometry schools, including Berkeley. The doctors are also active in community service and international service trips, and I highly respect them for their heart of service. I've referred several friends here and they have all been very pleased with the quality of their care. Though costs may be a little higher than Walmart, Costco, etc, you'll definitely find that the quality goes above and beyond the corporate giants. They don't use cheap materials here. read more

I've been coming to Dr. Oh now for 10 years (wow I'm old) and I must say that this is an AMAZING health care center. Honestly, each time I come here, I am so impressed by the standard of care from the doctors here. She has been managing my Ortho K since I was 14 and I love the fact that I can wear my contacts at night, take them off in the morning, and have 20/20 vision the rest of the day! In our visits, she always remembers what I'm up to and is so friendly and personable. I definitely look up to her. In addition, I think all the doctors here are good. Dr. Limtiaco is no longer here, but she was absolutely wonderful to my bf. She called in a prescription for him while he was in Dallas and even gave him her phone number if he had any questions. Sometimes when I am unable to see Dr Oh, I've also seen Dr. Shin. He's great too. Overall, I have been very satisfied with this clinic and I highly recommend this center to anyone looking for eye care. read more

Doctor is good but the staff is not efficient in customer service. I went there last year for my annual eye exam for the first time. I was looking for a new place, as I moved from another city. After calling them, it took several tries for them to find my insurance and they even tried to have me pay without the insurance at the end. Once I had my eye exam they wanted to charge me an addition $300+ to have a contact fitting, when the contacts I was using worked fine. I had to fight to just have a prescription and not the fitting as I have been wearing contacts for 15 years. I did feel like they were trying to take advantage of me being a new client. But it was just one time a year for an eye exam so I went on my way. They sent me a annual exam reminder in the mail and my prescription was expiring. Through convenience I called and confirmed the appointment they already set up for me. Upon confirming they asked if I would like a reminder call, I said yes. I never got a reminder call and showed up for my appointment today. When I got in they opened my file and said "oh." They then asked my what insurance I had. Again, I was there last year. I told them and they said they did not take it anymore. At this point, I do not want to see an eye doctor that does not take my insurance, so I was going to leave. Then she asked me if I wanted to keep my appointment and pay out of pocket... More money for them... They should have already taken care of all this insurance before I showed up. Very inconvenient and I would not go back... read more

Dr. Shin is the last optometrist you'll have to search for. It's hard to find someone that not only invests in your eye health, but is also extremely personal and genuine. When he explains things, he takes the time and you never feel rushed during your appointment. His recommendations are never sales oriented and he is extremely knowledgeable without ever coming across as arrogant. Also the consultants are very patient and helpful as are the front staff and technicians. You can tell how his staff interacts with him that he is respected and liked. Definitely recommend! read more

Dr. Shin is one of the best optometrists I've met! He takes the time to explain the details very thoroughly in a way that is very easy to understand, combining the more technical terms with the simple explanations to help us understand exactly what is happening with our eyes. He also makes genuine recommendations that are really directed at actually helping us out and based on our needs, as opposed to making recommendations based on what might make them money or something. Everyone else in the office is also very professional and super friendly. Also, Monica always makes sure to call and verify appointments and you can practically feel her positive energy and smile through the phone! If you need anything related to your eye health, this is the place to go! read more

I am giving Advance Vision Center five stars because of Dr James Shin. He is a true gem. To be perfectly honest, I would have given Advance Vision Center - at most - three stars if I thought to write a review before Dr Shin joined the team. I've been going there for over a decade now and until Dr Shin, I never felt like I had a doctor who was invested in the health of my eyes. My previous doctor always seemed rushed and was reluctant to cut us a few breaks, even though my family has paid a lot of money for her services. Dr Shin is enthusiastic, patient and super committed to improving your eyesight. And he is great about returning your phone calls, even checking in with you if he hasn't heard from you in awhile. How's that for dedication and customer service? Plus - he's great with his younger patients, too - all the trappings of an excellent family eye doctor. read more

My appointment was yesterday and of course I was a bit skeptical of all the reviews thinking "it can't really be THAT great can it?" but it really was! When I walked in I was warmly greeted by the receptionists, which made me feel at ease right away. They asked me to fill out a from, take a seat and let me know that they would be with me in a few minutes. We did all the routine things, refractive testing and the glaucoma test (the one that puffs air, yech), and was then taken to the exam room to see Dr. Shin. He was great! Very knowledgeable about his field, was very nice (I haven't been to see an optometrist in about 5 or 6 years, so I was worried i'd be getting a lecture) and let me know all my options for eye-sight. He was patient with me, took his time to answer all my questions and concerns, and he was able take the time to show me a video about my contacts and how it affects my eyes. Overall I had a great experience and am very satisfied! I do agree that their glasses are a bit pricey, but the customer service makes up for it! Needless to say, I have found my optometrist! read more

I had my first appointment with Dr. Lisa Limtiaco at the Advance Vision Center last week, and wow she is great! Dr. Limtiaco is hands down the most knowledgeable optometrist I have ever met. I have an autoimmune disorder that can negatively impact my eyes, she knew everything about it and she was careful to not utilize any chemicals that could stimulate my autoimmune disorder. I also scratched my cornea two years ago and she investigated the impacted eye thoroughly. I am super weird about my eyes, and hate having them checked for glaucoma. Dr. Limtiaco convinced me to give the machine a try and that technology has greatly improved over the years! No big deal at all. Dr. Limtiaco is extremely personable and great at her job. Let me just say before choosing this location I first considered if this location was close to me and what the Yelp reviews were :) so i'm going on what others are saying and they were right on the money lol.. to me Dr. Limtiaco or Dr. Shin was the way to go.. I was able to get in within 2 days for an appt.. they scheduled me with Dr. Limtiaco since she was the first available and I was not disappointed.. let me tell you: She was very warm andfriendly the whole appt and even after I followed up a week later.. My best friend who accompanied me to the appt was so impressed with her that she made an appt that same day for the following week.. the only thing she was worried about was if they accepted her insurance (medi-cal) which they did :)... Dr. Limtiaco gave her the info about Medi-Cal reinstating the vision so that's the only way we knew she could see Dr. Limtiaco. After explaining everything about my eyes and what the treatment would be she also explained thoroughly and went thru different payment options for the vision therapy my eyes would need at some point in my life.. I definitely learned alot and had all of my questions answered and even though I'm worried everytime I visit a doctor I fear the worse but she really put me at ease :) Then the next step was to get some glasses which I needed for my farsightedness (whenever necessary) which btw they are pretty pricey for glasses but considering that I was able to get Juicy Couture frames without my insurance I was going to pay at 500 something but with it I only paid 130 something :):):) major score for me! So I definitely recommend this clinic if you can afford it or have some insurance :) I doubt you'll be disappointed... The priceyness made me give them 4 but I would give them a 4 1/2 stars if it was possible.. read more
