Everything went well. I brought my 2010 Tacoma in because my speakers kept going out every time I hit a pothole or was going over an uneven surface. Dori found a loose ground wire that was the cause and fixed it expertly and quickly. I also replaced my deck because the music from my phone would not play over the car speakers on the original even though Bluetooth was connected. Now it works perfectly in both aspects. I need to comment on two of the very bad reviews. I almost didn't even try Advanced Car Audio because of those two reviews. The one review said the boss was a man. The boss of this establishment is a woman. The other review said the store was a "nice clean car audio store". That is not Advanced Car Audio. It is not a store that you can pick something off the wall. I went to the "Nice clean car audio store" and the boss, which was a man, was very friendly. He looked at my console and spent quite a bit of time on it, without charging me anything. He recommended Advanced Car Audio for this issue, since it was going to be very time consuming. BEST RECOMMENDATION EVER!! The boss, a lovely lady, had two technicians work on it . I stayed there for three hours and watched them figure it out. They never gave up. Now everything works perfect. I came in to get my sound system installed and although I had an older car they ordered exactly what I needed and when the parts came in they required everything and even repaired the auxiliary power port and ac switch during the install something my own mechanic wouldn't include. I had another company install some equipment on my jeep and it was a complete rats nest of wire and unfinished. I gave them a list of 6 items and they accomplished everything exactly as promised. Very clean wiring, routing and very professional looking. They finished the work a day early and reviewed the work with us to make sure it was up to par. This included driving lights, fog lights, relay switching, and overhead switch system and complete repair, installation and wiring of the sound system. My brother and sister were surprised how quick the work was done and we all agreed that the stereo and speakers sounded way better once properly mounted and wired. Upon completion the Owner made a special trip to meet us off hours to make it easy on us to pick it up. I would highly recommend this company. Scott read more

They didn't say anything about a no return policy until I called back 1 hour later telling them I made a mistake and need to return the amp. Didn't even open the box, they said it left the store so its used now. I'm stuck with a $300 paper weight. They said they'll call me back, never did and now they don't even answer my calls. No aloha, don't go there. They have some good reviews but I guarantee if you end up with a problem that's on their end, they're gonna screw you over like many others. I have lots of experience with Car Stereo Specialists and Audio Innovations, they helped me out many times before in similar situations. read more

I bought a deck and tried to install it myself but became too difficult for me because I don't know about electronics. I took my car to Advance Car Audio and they took my car right in and worked on it. I was even given a ride so I could get my wife's car until mine was done. They did not turn me away and were super nice. Shortly after my stereo stopped working and it was a bad radio so I bought a pioneer and they took the installed one out and put the new one in. I got a refund for the broken one I bought. Worth what I paid for installation because now everything is working including the dvd player that my daughter loves watching. I went in and checked out systems for my auto, which had the original tape deck from the early 90's. The salesman and I tried out some cd decks on the wall and the one he talked up didn't work. The main knob didn't do it's functions. It was faulty. It was broken. It was obvious that the demo model wasn't working. He said that they had some of the same deck still in a box and we made an appointment to install one. I came back days later, dropped off the auto and walked off and did chores and got a bite to eat. I came back and they were still working on the instillation. No problem, they were putting in the deck plus four speakers, for $454, and I thought all was well. As soon as they were done the installer guy and I started playing with the unit, setting the clock and such and he was showing me how it worked. Fine.... Then we realized the main knob wasn't working. I went back to the sound room and sure enough, there was a hole in the wall with loose wire where the broken demo had been They had taken the same broken deck out of the wall and put it in my auto. I bitched and moaned and went into the boss's office, followed by the salesman who was telling me, "You can't go in there." Yah, right. What are going to do, tackle me? I went in and told the boss what had happened and how this was NO WAY to run a business. He said little, just looked sad. I heard the salesman yelling the F-word outside. He said he had a migraine. I'd have one too if I was stupid enough to FORGET that the demo didn't work. And dishonest enough to NOT ask the customer if it would be OK to use a demo off the wall. I've bought demo stuff before, usually you get a price break. These guys didn't ask. I don't know if they are all crooks, or the salesman is just a dummy. So these guys flunk. I am very disappointed with the service I have received from Advanced Car Audio. They are a nice clean car audio store located in Hilo but get a F on customer service. If you are expecting a call back from these people you will probably never get one. If you have a problem and address it you will get a runaround. If you order something special you will be told it is on order, will come in next week. When the next week comes you will be told it will be the week after. And so begins the cycle of "it will be here next week we will call you". Advance Car Audio needs to call customers back and honestly keep customers informed of products on order. read more

The staff was very friendly and helpful taking the time to answer my questions (on multiple occasions) and make helpful recommendations. They didn't put any pressure on me to buy any products and in fact I took my time to do my own research online and at other local car stereo places over the span of a couple of weeks. I ultimately choose Advance Car Audio because of the staff, and positive online reviews of Alpine products. I believe that I got a good deal (seasonal sale) on the unit I selected and I'm very pleased with the quality of the installation, function of the unit and sound quality. Living in Waimea I had the choice of driving to Kona or Hilo. I did research on the internet and found several shops to select. Looked at the reviews and actually walked in to all of them. I felt the most comfortable at Advance Car Audio. Reason being, the sales guy was not pushy at all. They had what I wanted and in the price range. They had to order my alpine stereo (speakers and amps were in stock), but it came in at a reasonable time. We are on an island it does take a few weeks. One of the reviews said that they get an F for service. I thought otherwise. I got a response back maybe not from the original person that I spoke to but someone from the shop assisted me. Everything went well with the installation and I could not have asked for better service. Happy car audio client. read more

I think that with the limited car audio service centers options in Hilo, this company doesn't seem to care about how well they perform. I was really disappointed to find out that, they only carry one manufacturer's car stereo systems. The people I know in the Hilo area, who have used Advance - do not have anything positive to say about their experiences there, either. read more

Great staff - friendly and helpful. They were patient and I didn't feel pressured to buy one unit over another. Though the in-dash unit was a little above retail and they charge for installation (the other places in Hilo do, too), it's worth the local and extended warranty. Recommended. read more
