I was seeking an oil pressure sending unit for my wife's 2011 Buick Enclave. It is not a common part but also not tremendously esoteric or unique. When you think about it, most every car made these days has something akin to it. When I first phoned Advance Auto Parts they told me that they had this part at their 5125 N. Keystone location. So I drive several miles (from 80th/Keystone) to get there only to find that the guy behind the counter cannot even find the correct key word to use on the computer to find the part!!! So I phone the Advance Auto Parts store main number and see if the phone person can help him. The person whom I spoke with previously is gone for the day, so no go. The dude on the phone, like the dude behind the service desk, has ZERO clue. My main mistakes were: 1. Not getting the part # from the first person who I spoke to on the phone, and 2. Assuming that ALL people working in their stores are equally competent (bad bad assumption). Pretty tired of dealing with these bozos, so I called O'Reilly Auto Parts which is approx. 1 mile away and locate the part. Once I arrived there, the guy behind the counter also had a little difficulty finding it on their computer system, but he did, IN FACT, find it and I bought it there (Note: I have NO relationship with O'Reilly Auto Parts or ANYBODY who works there; In fact, I have never bought an auto part from them previously). So the moral of the story is: if only 1/3rd of the employees of a business are competent, you might just want to avoid that business!!!!! Will never use them again. Also, don't assume that all employees in an auto parts store are competent. If you do locate a part via phone, DO BE SURE TO WRITE DOWN THE PART NUMBER. That way, even if most of the employees of that business are incompetent, you might just be able to navigate around their incompetence...(emphasis: might). read more
