This review is a couple of months overdue, but I wanted to prioritize making it because it's the…read moresingle worst experience I have ever had with any insurance, or possibly any company that handles something as important as insurance. To give a little background, my mom was previously listed as a driver on my policy. She is elderly and doesn't drive herself around anymore so we let her driver's license expire when it came time for renewal. She was not driving, but I totally forgot that she was listed as a driver on the policy. I got a letter from Allstate informing me that this needed to be addressed before renewal, as non-licensed drivers cannot be on the policy (obviously). Immediately upon receipt of the letter, I called Evelyn's office to simply remove my mom from the policy because she does not drive and we had no plans to renew her license at this time. The girl on the phone informed me that for some reason, my rate would increase by removing her (they couldn't say why) and suggested that I wait until closer til the expiration date to remove her. I took her advice. My mom wasn't driving, one way or the other. About a month before my policy was set to expire, I called the 1-800 number to make 2 requests: 1) to remove my mom from the policy 2) to ask for a payment arrangement for a hardship -- I had been with Allstate on and off for a decade, and never had an issue. I spoke with the off-shore customer service, and was told both items were completed. I also received an email confirming the changes. Cut to about a week before my policy was set to expire and I get a call from Evelyn's office asking what's going on with my policy. Obviously, I was confused. I asked her what she meant, and after discussing, she said that the customer service person who helped me on the phone did something wrong when removing my mom from the policy, but that she would take care of it, no problem, and that I didn't need to do anything farther. I go about my life as usual and get a call the next week, which is now a few days AFTER expiration, informing me that my policy was expired/had non-renewed over a non-licensed driver still being listed and that I had been unknowingly driving without insurance for a couple of days. Despite the fact that I did everything I was required to do, I was told that I would need to wait a week to see if my policy would be reinstated, and that there is a chance that it will not be reinstated. They said they could sell me a same day policy instead, at more than double what I was paying before with a 50% payment upfront. This wasn't an option so I started looking for new insurance immediately, but the vast majority of insurance companies are now requiring a 15 day waiting period and also want excessive deposits, so I opted to wait to see if the policy would be reinstated, as there was no valid reason why it shouldn't have been. I ended up waiting a little over a week (their stated timeline), DURING WHICH I COULD NOT DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE I WAS IN INSURANCE LIMBO, only to find out that Allstate would not reinstate my existing policy at my old price. Despite the fact that the cancellation was caused by a mistake that THEIR customer service rep made, they said it couldn't be appealed because THIS insurance office "took too long to contact them to correct the error." Dozens of phone calls, emails, etc. later. To make matters worse, because of my payment arrangement, I still had a $350 balance with the office. I asked if the office could cover the balance as a courtesy since they and Allstate had made such a massive mistake. They ignored my request and sent me to collections. I reported this company to the BBB and to the insurance commissioner. I don't know if anything was done, but avoid this office like the plague.
