Worst company ever. My daughter signed up with them for security for her apartment. Then not too long afterward she moved home, transferring her ADT to our address because even though we didn't need it, she had signed a 3 year contract. No one informed us that the 3 year contract starts over when you move, we didn't find that out until we wanted to move it to her new apartment 18 months later and could not do so without initiating a new 3 year contract. By then we already had had the experience of them double-charging us for almost a year before we could get them to stop. Once they stopped, then they claimed they couldn't find evidence that they had done so. We assumed that they were charging us for both our address and my daughter's previous address, but when it was finally sorted out nearly a year later after many hours on the phone, emails, and printouts of our credit card charges , they said actually they were charging us twice at the same address for reasons unknown. We did finally get reimbursed, but that still required more emails and telephone calls. Then we just waited for the 3 year contract to end, while my daughter sensibly went with a different, much cheaper, no contract company at her new apartment. Three months before the contract ended and every month afterward, I called to let them know that we would be terminating the contract at the earliest opportunity, yet they continued to charge us for three months after they told me the account had been closed. Every time I would call up, get re-assured that our contract was closed and we would get re-funded, and the next month they would charge us again. I finally terminated that debit card. Do NOT sign up with them, unless you like spending your life arguing on the phone and getting charged for services you neither asked for nor received. Honestly, a nightmare. The service you get is someone to call the cops if an alarm goes off. For that you will pay nearly $60 a month. That is for the basic service. No bells. No whistles. No cameras. Just an alarm key pad, a keychain remote, and some sensors. I had a glass break sensor that was set so sensitive it went off if you dropped something on the counter. The batteries died in some sensors and they sent me the wrong replacement batteries. Then tried to charge me for a service visit when they couldn't understand why I couldn't change the batteries myself. I had to call to get the charge reversed and they were salty about it. In fact every time I called they were mostly put off that they had to deal with a customer. I finally got to the end of the contract and called to cancel the service in January 2020. I was told that the service would be cancelled at the end of the billing cycle (last day of February) and I would not be charged again. Oh - but in February 2020 I was charged again. I called and they acknowledged the service was cancelled and told me the refund would be put back on my card within 10 days. It wasn't. I called again and was told they couldn't put it back on my card and now had to mail a check that would take up to 25 days. It has been 29 days since that date and I still don't have a refund. I called AGAIN and was told it usually takes months. Yes, months. I would not recommend ADT. Do some research and find a different company. Not worth the long contracts, high prices, old technology, or poor customer service. (BTW I have since installed Simplisafe and couldn't be happier not only with the service and pricing but with the technology.) read more

ADT is a fraudulent company abusing elder by promising services and not delivering. the Seles person, described and charged me for extras that were not delivered by the installer. To compensate me the installer gave me 2 months free service, that also did not happen. Costumer service was rude sarcastic, I feel that they are trained by ADT to do that. The "new" panels are not activating to arm the system !!! After activating the system gets deactivated at random. giving them 1 star on Yelp is an overstatement. Recently installed in our business....local tech was great! Called for support and was snarky, short and rude..(Lexis) The call was useless. I was going by what the tech had said to do. It was a battery issue and she said it was $32 or I could go the store and get one. I asked her how to open the panel to replace it and she says, Its a black box that should say ADT on it in more depth than that sounding like I am a moron. I said thank you and good bye and called the tech. Its an all in one command panel which is not black and needs to be changed by a tech. I am completely dissatisfied with ADT (formerly Protection 1) for a number of reasons. I don't believe they are truly concerned about their customers, and are more interested in making a few extra dollars than keeping lifelong customers. We signed up for Protection 1 quite a few years ago. Although I have been emailed a contract (signed by me many years ago), I still find it hard to believe that I signed a contract for 5 years. Being in the military and moving around so often, I have never agreed to have long contracts for anything. So I'm not sure how the original salesman pulled that one off. But hey, I signed it apparently, so that one's on me. Anyway, we were looking to discontinue service to tighten up finances, when I was notified I would owe a $750 cancellation fee. That payment defeated the purpose of cancelling, so we looked at other avenues. A few years back when we were having issues with our system, I spoke with a customer service representative who reminded me to view my local law enforcement's alarm system policies. I didn't think much of it at the time, but finally started digging around. I found out that our local jurisdiction requires "confirmed" alarms in order for law enforcement to be dispatched. Turns out this is the case for most jurisdictions. But our local county ordinance states that activated alarms can be confirmed by any one of four means: 1) verbal confirmation of alarm or crime in progress from the account owner, 2) visual confirmation from alarm company via video, 3) more than one alarm zone activated, or 4) more than one individual alarm activated. We don't have video services, and we don't have multiple zones. So the only way to confirm our alarms is by getting in touch with us (if there's a crime in progress, getting in touch with the homeowner is not often possible), or if the criminal activates more than one alarm. This would mean the criminal would have to enter and exit through different means of entry, which is contrary to all known data and statistics about criminal behavior. We do have a motion sensor, originally installed. But we've always had pets, so the motion sensor can't be left on anyway and was never part of our original alarm design or contract. Thus, I just came to the realization that I have been paying for an alarm service for nearly 6 years, that would NEVER have actually provided for my family's safety or security. I even spoke with our county sheriff's security alarm program manager and they confirmed the sheriff's office would not respond unless they had one of those four conditions. All this information was provided to Protection 1 / ADT, along with the county ordinance that outlines what I already described above. Unfortunately, ADT would not compromise on the cancellation fee at all. Nor would they negotiate on providing video services or any other means by which to increase the ability to "confirm" activated alarms. Despite being a loyal customer and all the time and energy spent with ADT trying to deal with this, they are willing to lose a customer for life. I'm also incredibly confused because I had already fulfilled my 5 year contract (the contract on file at ADT that was provided to me via email) as of September 2018. Not sure why I would owe $750. This may be just another example of greedy America taking advantage of anyone too stupid to know otherwise. Reading all these other reviews of ADT makes me pretty disgusted and I'm realizing my folly. Don't be misled. So the numbers of cases are rises here in the US and your company is still creating the technicians the face of ADT to go inside multiple homes a day. Yes you have taken the caution to keep over 2000 employees that work in call centers to stay at home, BUT NOT the technicians. Still the technician is going into multiple homes with homemade hand sanitizer, gloves that don't last a day, not even for one job, and masks that don't fit properly. How many technicians have you tested to see if they are carrying the virus to home to home infected multiple people, their family members because YOUR COMPANY can't stand to loose a dollar and protect the employees or community? JUST think, you have multiple offices around the states and multiple technicians that are working not knowing if they are positive or not and taking that virus into several homes a day how is that really protecting the community? Your company is STILL NOT following the President of the US and the governor of each state safety precautions each day,( staying 6ft away) (don't expose high risk people) it's sad to see a company to worry about the numbers of clients they receive in a month than their employees. YOU might need to check(test) your employees in the Carolina offices, since they are jumping from county to county and being exposed everyday to the virus. My experience with ADT the entire time we have used them for business has been horrendous. Our experience with ADT began with a dozen false alarms in the first few months of service due to a wiring issue where the office next door to ours would set off the alarm. During the two years we have had this service we had 3 break-ins two of which were never registered because of a "communication issue" with the tower, making this service entirely useless. When we tried to cancel service due to the office move, we were notified that we had a 3 year contract, when I received a copy of the signed contract, it turns out that our rep went ahead and filled it out for us docu sign signature and all and conveniently no longer works for the company. The only way to cancel ADT services is to send or fax a hand written letter to them and wait 30 days. Wow, its like its 1982 again, I love it. I have been trying to cancel this service a few hours every day for a week. Not only will I never get ADT, I will make sure all my friends and family who have them cancel. I am now an anti-advocate of this terrible company. I don't even want to tell you what their phone support is like. Suffice it to say, the first time I called to cancel they transferred me exactly 14 times to wrong departments. My problem with ADT began when I called to cancel my service. The agent said that I paid in advance for December and I would be receiving a refund on the payment. I did not receive a refund but ADT took another payment at the beginning of January. I spoke with another agent and was informed that ADT requires 30 days notice to disconnect their service, but that the January payment would be credited back to my bank account. After a week no sign of the credit to my bank account. Called again and was told that I had a balance on my account before the January payment was taken and that I would not receive the money back. After a long discussion with the agent spewing inconsistent information and refusing to refund the January payment I gave up and notified my bank to not process any future requests for payment by ADT. This is definitely not worth all the money you will be paying in the long run. They make it impossible to cancel and if they do they will charge you over $500 in cancellation fees. The prices tend to change and the technicians do very rushed work and repeatedly kept coming on to me. He even asked me on a date before he left even though I made it very clear I wasn't interested in him. Trust me to get a nest or a self-monitored system and save THOUSANDS!! Nothing about this company is customer friendly. I am moving during the coronavirus and I explained that I just lost my job and needed to cancel my service. The agent immediately went into a sales pitch. I stopped him and explained that again I cannot afford an upgrade just to move. He said since my service isn't over till May I would have to pay a $500 cancellation fee or upgrade my system at the new house for $78 a month but I would have to extend my contract which in turn would cost me $926!!! Help me make this make sense!!! I am moving, I no longer require the service which ends in May but somehow if I don't pay the whole cancellation fee I must extend and incur more charges giving them my money for free. I couldn't even begin to say how disappointing, rude and just downright greedy this company is!! My mom had to cancel her service because she is having to sell her home and moving out of state. When my parents moved into the home a year ago they ended up signing a 3 year contract, this was going to be their forever home. When my mom called to notify them she was needing to cancel the service and selling the home and moving out of state they just told her they are charging her $700 since she decided to move . She explained to them she HAS TO MOVE, SHE HAS NO CONTROL OVER THE SITUATION, my Dad died in a car accident. After speaking to the manager and explaining the situation, money is tight right now for her with all the hospital bills and she has absolutely NO control over the situation; he just told her too bad, pay $700. Would not even negotiate a lower fee or offer any solution, just pay $700. I have used ADT in the past as well and never had a good experience with them either. All they do is try to over sell you and scare you into more than you really need and when you do need something their customer service is horrific. After my own experience and the way they treated my mom and had her in tears after the call I would NEVER recommend doing business with these people, all they care about is making a buck and no customer service!! read more

There were issues, but they fixed them. After that the system works perfectly. One small thing - later after that I installed multiple sensors myself, as their prices with installation are 3-5 times higher than it really costed me. I suggest ADT to provide reasonable prices for additional sensors installation. Sensor which costs $50-70 in Amazon shouldn't cost $160+ in ADT with installation. read more

Oh how I wish I had read the previous Yelp reviews, before selecting ADT to install our home security system. Their marketing team must be superb, as their media ads and recommendations from neighbors are the reasons I selected ADT. I called and scheduled an appointment. The salesman, Nery Peralta, actually arrived significantly early on the date of the initial sales call. I was at work; he called me and asked whether I could meet him at my home two hours earlier than the scheduled time. I told him that wouldn't be possible, as I had meetings to attend and I was 45 minutes away. When I arrived home, he was waiting there in his vehicle. I guess I should be thankful that he showed up, right? The initial sales meeting went well. Nery was not an overpowering salesman, trying to sell things I didn't want or need. When I agreed to the ADT installation, he scheduled the installation for Friday, May 13, 2011, with a time frame of 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. I agreed and took the time off from work. On the Wednesday prior to the installation, ADT called to confirm the appointment and reiterated the statement on their contract that, "Customer agrees to give ADT 24 hours notice to reschedule the installation or incur a $50 charge." I stated that I understood that policy and would be present between 12:00 noon and 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011. This was on a recorded call. Friday, May 13, 2011 arrived. I worked a couple of hours and made sure that I allowed enough time to be home promptly at 12:00 noon. I waited and waited until 3:40 p.m. and no ADT installers appeared. I finally called and the customer service representative offered to reschedule the installation. I told her that was not acceptable and she transferred me to a manager. The manager had the installer call me. The installer said that a lot of people had called in sick that day and it was doubtful that my installation would take place. I told him that was not my problem and that they need to keep the appointment or I will charge them for my time. He seemed unwilling or unable to rectify the situation, so I again called ADT and told them that if they did not send an installer out, I would bill them for my time. ADT had Nery call me back. He assured me that this was not their normal practice and said that he would try to get an installer out. A few hours later, Nery called to say that they would send two installers out. Again, I waited and waited. FINALLY, at 7:00 p.m. one installer came. He had a very negative attitude and stated that he didn't know whether he could install the system I had requested. The second installer arrived about 20 minutes later and together they were able to install the system. By the time they were completed, it was after 9:00 p.m. The installers said that they were out of ADT signage for my front yard and advised that I should call Nery. I called Nery two weeks ago and he stated that he would bring a sign the next day. I also told him about the entire incident and the inconvenience it had caused me and he said that he would speak to his manager and call me back. That did not happen either. In fact, at this writing, it has been 2 1/2 weeks and I have not heard word one from Nery. In fact, my good friend happened to be having an alarm system installed by ADT the following week, so I asked her to ask her installer for a yard sign. I don't think I should've had to do that, since the sign was supposed to be included with the package I purchased. I called ADT to rectify the situation. I had to repeat my story multiple times and was transferred to several different parties. ADT has done absolutely NOTHING! It's basically, once they have your money, they run! I was given the telephone number to a Robin, who supposedly manages the sales representatives. I have left voicemail messages for her, but my calls have not been returned. Instead, I have received multiple calls from customer services representatives, who put the problem back to square one - no resolution. I really wish that there was a way to assign no stars to this company. I was treated horribly and wasted nearly an entire day on the date of the installation. I am completely appalled that a company that invests so much money on advertising treats its customers this way. They should perhaps use their advertising funds to hire better customer service representatives or teach their current staff better customer service skills. I wish I had selected another home security company. After all that has transpired and the lack of customer support I have received from ADT, I do not even have much faith in their equipment. read more

I have been an ADT customer for 5 years. Saturday night my home was broken into and the alarm system failed to notify anyone of the occurrence. The burglar was able to rip the panel from the wall before it activated and the system did not recognize that there was a problem. The burglar was able to take as much time as he needed and took whatever he wanted. When I just spoke to ADT they told me that is just how the system works and there was nothing they could do. Why would they sell an alarm system that may not be any sort of protection at all (other than protecting the ADT executives from having to live in the same neighborhood as I do)? 5 years of monthly payments for this tough luck story?!?!? I will urge anyone and everyone to get this message out because our, if not even you or your, loved ones are not as safe as the salesman selling the system may tell you. If there was a star or rating that meant "run for the hills" I would use it. This company is the worst. They are very good at responding for the first visit to collect money, but after that you will NEVER be able to get them and if you do, they will have you bouncing back and forth between corporate offices and local providers. Failed to show for installation, didn't respond to calls, were late the second time, installed the incorrect items and then failed to come back to fix it. We have made countless calls, sent letters and nothing worked. We were forced to take the loss, remove their items and pay for a second company to make the proper installation. I am extremely disappointed with ADT billing department. I have had an account at my house for four years. I set one up for my dad's house last week. I told them several times this is not a replacement setup and that I need security at both homes. Come to find out they disconnected my service. They did not call me to see if they were correct in doing so, they just did it. One account is setup under my dad's name and the other under mine. After purchasing our new home with an existing ADT system and getting our phone line activated we immediately got a cold call from ADT about getting our system hooked up. I was surprised to get a call considering our phone line was setup just four hours earlier. I immediately setup an appointment for a ADT rep to come to my home and discuss my options. The rep never showed up on the designated day and time, I ended up getting a phone call from a sales rep that he will be coming to my home. I told him he's about two days late but sure come on by, I should have realized that this was just the beginning of a very bad experience. The sales guy came out to my home and gave me the normal sales pitch on the service and monthly costs. I wanted to add additional sensors and he added it to the work order. I asked if I'd be able to have my alarm working that same evening or if I had to wait for the installer to come in and he said..."No problem I'll have your alarm working before I leave". I sign all the paperwork and he then begins to show me how to use my alarm and arms it. He then tries to disarm it using an special code which didn't appear to work. Note this is in the evening when my wife and kids are home and we are now trapped in my home with an armed ADT system. After fidgeting on his phone trying to look up different codes to disarm it he proceeds to tell me "we will have 30 seconds to disarm your alarm." He asks me where my plug and main junction box is which of course is in a place where it requires us to open a door that if opened will set off the alarm. We go to the area and he tries to disable my system but fails to realize the plug for the alarm is screwed into the outlet. By this time the 30 seconds has passed and I have a really loud alarm going off in my home with my children and wife covering their ears. About 12 minutes go by and this "genius" ADT salesmen finally disables the alarm. He apologizes and says to me "well I guess we'll let installer take care of this, hopefully the cops don't come" and he leaves with the signed installation contract and a ADT system with no power. My wife was pretty upset and I end up calling him after he left to cancel the contract I just signed. Luckily I had 7 days to terminate the contract, I ended up signing the termination letter then next day and sent it to the pleasanton office via USPS delivery confirmation. Looking back canceling my install was the best thing I could have done as I now see all the 1 star reviews of peoples experience with this office. I can truly say these guys aren't worth even 1 star, STAY AWAY!!!! If you ever get a cold call from ADT about getting an install and they are from the Pleasanton office...hang up and find yourself another dealer, there are better ones in the bay area. read more

I booked an appt. 2 weeks ago and was given a 4(!) hour window (not even cable companies do this anymore!). Well, here I am after waiting 4 hours and my service guy isn't even on his way. AND I have spent at least 30 minutes on the phone trying to even find out if they're on their way!! And they were incredibly dismissive about me being frustrated about waiting around 4 hours. "We'll just schedule another appointment". REally? So I can waste another 4 hours of my life with no guarantee that you'll show up. And the icing on the cake? I just called the Pleasanton number asking for a manager, was put on hold for 5 minutes and then disconnected. When my contract is done I will be through with these guys. I still want to give them zero star if I can. Update: After weeks of frustration with the local office, we called the national service center to find out what was going on. One agent tried to forward my call back to the local office and I reached that familiar voice mail again. I called again another agent wanted to put me on hold so that I could talk to her supervisor but she managed to cut me off, not sure if she was intentional or not. I called again. One of the agents finally told us that according to their computer record, our contract has been cancelled. On one hand, we sighed with relief for the good riddance. On the other hand, we were mad that they canceled us without even notifying us. Since we have signed the contract, the confirmation and notification of the cancellation is very important to us. They just didn't bother to deal with us. I have read another review on Yelp that this company discriminates against minority. That accusation would explains my bad experience with them because I am Chinese. My advice is that if you disagree with white supremacy, you may get better experience elsewhere. Besides do you really want to put your own security in the hands of people who discriminates against you? AVOID THIS COMPANY! I cannot begin to tell you how disappointed we are with ADT/TYCO services. We have had them in our office for over 20 years, and now because we aren't on their "service plan" it costs hundreds of dollars to make simple fixes. Their battery stopped working, which created a situation in our office where the blasted thing just kept beeping and beeping. A couple of days later they came out and took 5 minutes to replace said battery - to the tune of almost $400!!!!! What's wrong with this picture??? Labor was almost $300 - they opened the box, put in the battery, wrote an invoice and left. The invoice took them longer, and it was already filled out! I certainly don't mind paying for valuable services, but this is simply taking advantage Avoid this company - find another company that actually wants to service your account. I have been an ADT customer for 11 years. My contract expired in 2014. I informed ADT after sitting on hold for very long wait times that my name and living situation had changed and agreed on a renewal. I even purchased more products. They mailed me a paper contract with my old name and unauthorized users listed. I called and set on hold again. Once I reached someone they apologized and told me they would send me a new renewal. Months later (still no contract), I got a large increase on my autodraft. I called, sat on hold again and explained. They said they would send me a new contract. To date I still don't have it (seven years later). A few months ago they informed me my system needed upgraded to 5G. They came out and asked if I was Pulse. I am, the tech told me I am not. I showed him the app and that it's listed at Pulse. He explained that was a mistake and I am not. Yet I have all the services?? I just decided that I wanted to finally straighten this out. I called ADT. I was impressed that I only waited 2 minutes for someone to answer. Once I explained the problem, she said we have long wait times for me to get someone to help you. Would you like to call back tomorrow? I explained again, that I think this is what makes their service HORRIBLE. She apologized, repeated herself for me to call back. Nope, no thanks! I will keep paying the same amount and have the wrong name on my account. The alarm works. So screw em' why should I keep wasting time to fix their horrible service. I should just cancel and get a Ring. Anyone reading this, DONT BOTHER WITH ADT! Go elsewhere. They have the worst service of any company I have ever seen! read more

This company is unethical! I used their alarm services at my business for many years. When I knew I was selling the business, I called them with one month's notice to inform them I was cancelling the service. I later received a confirmation letter of this fact. Two months later, I receive a BILL for the time after we closed. Upon calling them again today, I am ONLY NOW told that I have an AUTOMATIC RENEWAL every year THAT CANNOT BE CANCELED without a termination fee. This was never disclosed. I had to pay a fee of $100 to terminate. EXTORTION!!!! And why wasn't I told two months ago when I first called!!!! read more

I think the one person on here who gave a 5 star got lucky. Where to start. The installer was nice enough but that's about the only good thing I have to say. 5 false alarms later, (especially fun when they come in the middle of the night) They finally figured out that maybe a wire was crossed in the phone system and that was triggering the alarm. Next, the equipment failures.... The back-up battery fails 9 months into owning the system, and I get to pay for the service call. $25 for them to come out and replace the equipment! Lady in the billing department was less than helful, and explained the charges could have been higher had I not signed the guarenteed service charge max. that's all well and good, but I have to pay $25 when their equipment fails? sounds like a money making scheme to me. And the 90 day guarentee is obviously a joke. Kicking myself for not paying a little more int he beginning for the local Bay Alarm company. My advice regarding ADT . . . ? Run, don't walk away from these hucksters! Be sure to read my experience BEFORE YOU SIGN ANY ADT CONTRACT! I applied for their residential service for my home in Wisconsin. Although I asked the salesman multiple times whether I can cancel the contract after a few months (I knew I might have to relocate re job), he continually assured me I could cancel at any time and rushed us to sign the contract so we could get out to dinner. After my wife and I signed the contract, he took it with him back to the office. I never was given the chance to properly read all t. he fine print so I could learn all the details and cancel the contract within 72 hours of signing, which is law. When the installer arrived a week or so later, he asked for the paperwork, and it was at that time we discovered that we were never given the contract. He had to drive back to the office to retrieve the contract in order to determine what he needed to install. When I had to relocate a few months later, I called the salesman and he told me that we would have to pay out to the end of the 3-year contract (more than $1,000) to terminate the contract. Had I known, I would never have signed the contract in the first place. His agenda was simply to make the sale at all costs. I was furious.The salesman begged me not to contact his boss in fear he would lose his job. He suggested that he personally would pay part of the termination fee, which seemed very desperate and unprofessional to me. Next, I called his boss and the regional manager. I got no where. So now I was stuck in a three-year commitment to ADT. Here's the best part. I relocated to Florida and when I went to re-activate the account (since they wouldn't let me out of the contract, they agreed to put service on hold for a month or two until I moved into a new residence), I was told that the contract went back to day one, starting the three-year commitment cycle all over once again. Yes, I was told, every time you move to a new residence, the contract reverts back to day one. Well, you can just imagine how I accepted that news. Now they are trying to get me to pay out to the end of the contract and have turned it over to collection which will stain my credit for non-payment. After all the lies and deceit I was fed in Wisconsin by their salesman and managers and the extremely poor service quality by which I was treated in trying to address this problem with ADT directly, would anyone with a sense of dignity and even a few brain cells simply surrender to such despicable conduct in their business practices? Hopefully reading my story will save you from having the same pain and misfortune. Avoid ADT at all costs. I certainly will NEVER do business with them again. read more

If I could give no stars I would. We just moved and the previous owner had the works with ADT- cameras, digital panel, etc. We wanted to reset the master code so we could reset the zones and turn off the alerts. The extremely rude and high-pressure customer service rep I spoke with said it'd be $25 just to send a tech out and tried to push me into activating service with a $40 a month year-long contract. When I said I don't want to activate I just want to be able to turn off the chirps every time we open doors and windows he said he wasn't going to send a tech out "just to waste his time". I then just hung up. Well, the rep CALLED ME BACK and proceeded to say "if I wanna get upset for no reason that's just fine and he won't help me" I handed the phone to my husband to deal with him and he continued to then complain to my husband about how I was "getting upset for no reason and that's ok just hang up on him again" he was being incredibly aggressive at this point, so my husband asked to just be transferred to someone who could walk us through how to reset the code over the phone- the rep just put him on hold and never transferred him, so my husband just hung up. This was my very first interaction with this company- can't imagine getting locked into a year-long contract with these guys!!!! Terrible customer service and from the other reviews I read, just a terrible company all around. Save yourself the frustration and choose another company. read more

AVOID!!! Started monitoring my business in 2012 using all ready existing equipment. Bottom line, my place got broken into twice where the crook walked around for over an hour and cleaned the place out before the motion detector went off. I had it all on video. Both times, they had a tech come out and check the system. The first time, he changed the motion detector. That did not help any, as the second break in proved. This all happened in late of 2013. I moved onto another alarm company, Bay Alarm, who has been outstanding. Still, for some reason, I was in a 2 year contract with ADT. I complained because they never did initially install equipment. They were just taking over their existing equipment. I bit the bullet and paid for the service for one more year until the contract was over and then I cancelled. 5 months after cancelling(that process took 3 repeat calls), I receive a notice from a collection agency about a balance due. This is after my insurance rates have skyrocketed because of the robberies and I had made a couple of calls to ADT billing and they told me to disregard the bal dues. Now, they are telling me that they are waiving the Bal Due and contacting the collection agency to take me off collections. Honestly, I don't trust that will happen. It appears that I am headed for a bad mark on my credit report over a small bal due, which ADT has not earned. Shame on me for not shopping these services correctly. We called ADT thinking it would be a fast and easy way to get our system hooked up after being burgled. WRONG! The salesman (Oscar) was prompt, coming out the next day and signing us up to have it installed the next weekend in the afternoon. We canceled dinner plans with friends thinking it may run late and were surprised to hear from the technician at 10:30am asking if he could come early. We agreed and when he arrived (Vince) you would have thought we did something awful to him. He was not happy with us for not having a land line, which we would have had but were advised 3 times (and customer service even confirmed that we didn't by calling in advance). He was mad at the salesman saying he wrote it all up wrong (when my paperwork clearly said wireless) and that he didn't have the equipment. After working to calm him, we got him to quote a new proposal (nothing in writing was given to us) and he said they would contact us as soon as possible to schedule installation, at the latest the next Saturday. Oscar the salesman called on the next Friday confirming that a technician would come out. We waited almost all day Saturday before calling ADT to be told we were scheduled for the next Saturday, which would put it 3 weeks after we had initiated getting it installed. I still need to wrangle the $25 Oakland permit fee back out of them too. We are going with FrontPoint Security and advise not to deal with this huge Walmart of non-security. If their communication sucks before we are even signed up, how is going to be after they have our money?? read more

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME & MONEY ON ADT!!!! We had ADT security system installed in our home less than a year ago, and have regretted it ever since. I don't even know where to begin to describe our countless problems with this company -- from inept workers who poorly installed equipment (requiring multiple follow-up appointments to get it fixed) & who repeatedly gave us misinformation about how the system worked, to the system repeatedly tripping itself for reasons we still haven't figured out (prompting phone calls from ADT to us while we were at work), and countless more. The last straw was when we continued to receive late notices threatening legal action for a bill we had already paid (even though our bank showed that our check to ADT had been cashed, we called ADT each time we received one of these notices, we mailed in a copy of the check to ADT repeatedly, and were even told on the phone that the problem at been "resolved"). It took 8 months to finally get the situation resolved and the letters to stop. It's deeply disturbing that a company this inept and dysfunctional is actually attempting to secure people's homes and businesses. I had to give them one star since it's not possible to rate them any lower...though I would if I could. WORST service EVER. We have been trying to install cameras for 5 months-YES 5 MONTHS. The sales reps are TERRIBLE. My first sales rep had zero follow up, she left the company and then our next rep, Jamie never responded to calls! Im in the midst of canceling our entire service. Agree totally with all the bad reviews!! Should have researched before i called for an appointment to discuss upgrade to my security alarm which is by Protection 1. 1. ADT charged $107.91 first on credit card for the appointment and it was explained that to be deposit only and not charged. When i get the email confirmation, the reference number i got said that i am a new customer and the appointment was for installation. What! the ref # is now my customer number and my credit card was charged. 2. When i called back to cancel after i got the email, i had to talk to the manager after on hold for 5 minutes. I told the manager, B.W. that i have an emergency and need to cancel. He tried to stop the cancellation by offering another $100 visa refund. I pleaded no because i have to eave and ask for a confirmation Number. His response, "oh, i thought you had to leave"; i just said i just need the CN, but he said there is no CN; so i asked if my credit card would be credited, he said yes. I am now skeptical and wonder if my credit card charge would be reversed. SO i will call my CC company and cancel the charge. 3. I also send ADT an email to cancel the appointment. I'm worrying. I thought they were supposed to be the best in the business. We were told we had to have an upgrade to the cell. We made an appt for that, we thought, and a salesman showed up to talk about video coverage. So the cell guy didn't show up for about 2 more weeks. He came in telling us how great he was, installing for banks, etc. He was here for 3 hours. It was only supposed to take an hour. It was late, after 5, he said he didn't care because he was union and getting overtime. He didn't leave until after 8. He wanted to do more work, but my husband told him it was time to go. After he left, our alarm went off three times, falsely, in the middle of the night. We had to turn it off and not have security coverage. I called the next day and said it didn't work and we couldn't alarm our home because the thing kept going off when there was no intrusion. They told me it would be two weeks before someone could come. I had to go out of town in a couple of days. Our home would be without coverage while I was gone! My husband called and demanded quicker service. A guy came out in 3 days. He said that the guy who came before had messed up the wires, but after this second guy left, we still kept getting open door codes and false alarms going off in the night. The thing has never worked since they insisted to replace the cell. It just went off again falsely 30 minutes ago. My husband called and they said there was nothing wrong! The gal on the phone said if it goes off again, to call them and they will send out a tech. In another two weeks? This is crazy. We never had any problems before they said they had to change our cell. This has been going on for 6 weeks. The first lady I talked to after the first visit told me she'd credit us 20 bucks. ???? If someone breaks in here, we'll be out more than 20 bucks! This is crappy service and I have lost trust in that we are not being monitored at all because we can't turn it on. And the door alarms keep going off even when we don't have it armed. The thing is so screwed up I can't turn it on when I leave because I think a false alarm will go off when I'm gone. I'm going to have to find another security service. ADT has gone downhill. I don't trust them anymore and we've used them for more than 20 years. the WORST,WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ADT sent a BLACK guy to install , he spent 10 hours without knowing what to do, and once I cancel the service, ADT ask me to remove all the sensors by myself ,spend $20 priority shipping fee to ship back, and instead of refunding my installation fee, they keep takes money from my credit card! Scammm! The customer service refuse to listen to what happen, and very rude! I am glad to cancel it early , big big headache ! Garbage customer service. All the other Yelp reviews were spot on. Gave me a 4 hour window in which they were supposed to show up. I asked for a courtesy call 30 minutes prior to the tech showing up. I called both the office and the national office prior to my appointment and confirmed everything. Tech didn't show up. Upon calling the office, they had an incorrect address, incorrect phone number, etc. Garbage. No apologies, horrible. read more

We got ADT September 2011 after our home was broken into. My mom's fear was of another break in, she didn't feel safe in our house, she was terrified to leave the house without each room locked up etc. ADT sent out 2 installers to our house, and charged us a fee of 100. The installers told us our house is only 70% secure, and that we needed to spend 600 for more alarms. They put a large hole in my living room wall, only to tell us they can't put the system there after all. They made me run to Home Depot to buy a drill bit for them to use. The put screw holes all over the kitchen wall, only to determine they can't have the battery system there. Then we moved it to my hallway. They didn't want to install the panel center on the 24in space of wall we have. Instead they jam it up against the door paneling. They ran wires all over the walls, drilled 4 separate holes then only used one of them to use one of them. These guys did not know what they were doing! They admitted to not being qualified for the install. At first, my alarm system worked great. We even got the phone calls we were supposed to get when the alarm goes off. Since January 2012, our alarm system has had problems. The key fob does not work, changed the battery and it still wont work. ADT does not call when the alarm goes off. We had another break in, the culprit got spooked and ran away, but the point is, the alarm went off for 10 min and ADT did nothing. We got home and found the door open and alarm blaring. We started complaining, several phone calls later, poor customer service, leaving us on hold for 45 min etc. We finally got someone to schedule us an apt. Then they didnt show up! Called the next day furious! They told us that we were not very important because they had power outages up north, and that we would be checked up on when they had time. Our service went out completely June 1, 2012. It turned back on June 5, 2012. ADT didn't even call to see what was wrong. The panel just stopped working on us. Turns out the transformer blew. We then found out from calling that we have service, meaning they will come out and fix the problem for $25. We were NEVER told this. They sent some1 out to repair our system, he only spent 10 min with me, changed the battery and left. He told me that he's just a battery guy and he isnt qualified to actually fix the system. He told me he'd notify his supervisor and he'd leave the call open because it had a lot of problems. 3 days later we call back because now the system was saying the front door was open and wont alarm the house. They told us that our call was closed. We battled about 33 phone calls with them, and our system STILL ISNT FIXED! My house won't alarm. They told me tmrw they could possibly come out. It's July 18, my house is not alarmed yet I'm paying for service, they refuse to assist us, wont refund us or give us a credit, and still wont return phone calls. Going to discontinue the service. OH BTW: If ADT tells you your panel has to be more that 6ft away from the signal box thingy, that is a total lie! GE manufactures the alarm system. I called and asked them various questions about the alarm, and several GE people told us that they had never heard of the panel needing to be 6ft away from the other system. So if ADT tells you thats the problem, they are full of shit. All ADT has done was blame other departments, faulty set up etc. No one wants to fix the system.
