I could go in for hours about how poor the costumer service is. Today was my breaking point with them. The man whom I was speaking to about my bill told me to stop talking. Several times during our conversation he lied to me about my bill, tried to tell me that they gave me a credit when they actually just pulled money from my account. As I tried to explain to him that there was no credit, it was a debit which is a charge he got angry and mumbled things under his breath, then lousy said I should stop talking. When I asked him to transfer to someone who could close my account he very threateningly ask I'm if I was sure that was something I wanted to do several times. Just an update to my original review. The manager at the local ADT office (Omar) reached out to me and addressed our concerns! He took ownership and was genuinely listening. I wish I could say the same to the ADT corporate office who just gave me the run around and denied my 'Theft Protection Guarantee' claim twice citing I failed to turn on the system at time of incident! I've had ADT for almost 2 years and I have never had to use them, so can't speak to their reliability because I live in a pretty safe neighborhood what I found out is that they are like a mafia they will literally keep you for three years and they increase their prices whenever they feel like it, really nullifying your original contract. It is almost impossible to get out of their contract. If you move or if you die, you still need to successfully pay their contract, you really want to monitor your safety get yourself a better company. Not one that tries to sell bogus things. We've been with ADT for 4 months. We needed a system to monitor outside our home. The system is not even detecting me driving my car in and out of the garage, let alone alerting us to someone on our property. Multiple calls, multiple techs, all resulting in the same thing. "Everything is fine." They leave, the system does not record all motion. It will sometimes pick up a stray cat but not my SUV coming or going. At this point, all I want is my money back and to be done with their contract. They've been out to "fix" the system more than ten times since we hired them. Enough. Please do not hire this company to protect you or your property. Not only did we pay for the equipment and the monthly service charge, we also continue to have items stolen. ADT wants the elder to believe they still have a "verbal" contract and they keep billing them despite the system not working for two years. I had been with ADT for 21 years. I desired to update my equipment. I shopped around to get an idea what was available. I then called ADT to see what they could do to match what I wanted. The best "deal" they could give me is worse than a new customer would get. When I said no I received multiple calls and emails from the "manager" who could give me a better price. I was still going to pay full price for most items but could get a break on some. They would also waive the $99 install fee. But in order to get the total package I would have to increase my monthly bill and add on some services that I did not want, such as 24 hour video recording. I expected my monthly bill to increase but not expecting to pay for items I don't want just to get a price break. Some deal!!! Final straw was if I cancelled they would charge a $120 cancellation of which they are not permitted to waive. Wow, 21 years and they can't waive the "mandatory" $120 fee. I was attacked in my home last summer and AFT SHOWED UP THAT DAY, installed a system and wete so amazing that I referred my friends. I was FORCED to move in with my parents due to a terminal illness. Almost 700 dollars to break my contract. I was given a corporate email to ask for a compassionate exception. I wrote them, and sent a copy of my cancer filled pet scan so they would know I was not making it up. Now it's headed to collections, the only mark on my perfect credit. Sent in a written notice of cancellation via email only to be told months later that they have specific policies regarding cancellations that include a wet signature- your business email isn't going to cut it, going to a specific email- cannot use to rep who sets up the accounts and provides copies of bills, and they cancel int he order they get them not based on that date you email in. read more

I would not recommend ADT they are a terrible company. Their customer service is zero I called today. I've been trying to cancel my contract for two years after a contract on another house that I moved from and was told I couldn't take any of the equipment that I purchased because it belong to that house then I got suckered into ADt blue because other than I would've had to pay a lump sum to get out of the contract from the other house so then once they gave me the ADT blue and I moved. They restarted my contract and I've been trying for two years to get out of it. They won't let me out of it they keep telling me. That I have to call again during the week because today was a Saturday and they can't cancel contracts on the weekend but I need to call by 8 o'clock in the morning otherwise you will not get through to anybody. I press the button one for them to call me back so I don't stay on hold all day. Nobody calls me back they won't let me out of my contract and they won't cancel my contract without me paying a lump sum. I disconnected all of their equipment six months ago. Haven't even used it but still paying monthly. Nobody seems to recognize any of my calls when I've had problems with the equipment they keep telling me that my calls I've never called before. ADT is the most incompetent, untrustworthy, alarm service I have ever experienced in my entire life. They are deceitful and dishonest. I cancelled my contract, after learning our HOA provided alarm service, which is included in our HOA fees. Our HOA informed us that ADT was aware of the inclusion. They deceitful withheld this information and allowed us to enter a contract with them and refused to end the contract. After fulfilling the contract we received another bill for 1,000.00. They transferred us to one person after another, continually held on the phone for hours. Spoke to about 10 employees, each one told me something differently. I was informed by several employees that the problem was resolved and yet almost a year later I am still fighting this battle. I looked in adt as we have a system in the shop I work at. I booked appointment and plan to pay all installation up front and was assured by one of the people I talked to that they would not pull credit as I did not need a hard pull on my credit report. The installer came out and was polite and early. His manager showed up and seemed to rush him through everything. When setting up sensor they mis keyed motion sensor as door sensor which I caught later and had to have adt phone support fix. Then 24 hours later a window sensor fell off window. I reinstalled it and it functions as should now. When I paid for equipment I gave him credit card and I specified I wanted the monthly billing going to different card. He had both cards and whether he didn't enter is right or just didn't care it all ended up on one card. Low and behold a month later I have a hard pull showing up on my credit report. So now I have involved equifax credit bureau and have contacted defender security directly who was supposed to review things and get back to me in 24-48 via phone call and send letter via usps. After 5 days I had to call back to find out that they sent a letter and the person I was speaking to couldn't help me any further. So now I am looking at escalating it even further if need be depending on results of letter. ADT security customer service has been helpful but management and their authorized installers are a joke. Their adt phone app is laggy and takes forever to connect. The funny thing is we have same setup with video at shop and have no issues. If you are looking for security system go elsewhere. I would have never took my time out to write this review but it seems shit just keep rolling down hill. Worst customer service ever. The panel that should close to cover the key pad has been broken since it was installed. When I had a battery go out they sent me the wrong types of replacement battery three time. Twice with no instructions. I have set off the smoke detector on three occasions and they have never responded. I have asked four times for them to send proof of coverage to the insurance company that would give me a discount on my homeowners policy if they would simply fax the information. Don't bother! Next to Spectrum, ADT has the WORST service we've experienced! Today, after holding for 20 minutes, a customer service rep finally answered my call. In between juggling her crying child and dropping the phone, she attempted to give me 'codes' to input on my panel to test my system. THREE times, she told me to do the SAME thing -- because she was so frustrated with her BABY! Before she could tell me the next step, it sounded like she dropped her phone AGAIN, but this time, she disconnected the call. Now, MOST halfway-intelligent people would CALL BACK the customer WHOSE INFO is right in front of them, but NOT this useless woman! So, I called ADT 'again,' and held for more than 20 minutes, THIS TIME, for a guy named Withdellist to finally answer. Once again, I went over the details with Person #2 -- but because I was fed up with ADT by this time, I told him I wanted to CANCEL the service (that I've paid for since the early 1990s!). Well, even THIS is not easy with this pathetic, gypsy company! I've NOW been on hold for 42 MORE MINUTES for the 'supervisor,' the ONLY person who, according to Withdellist, can cancel an account, to pick up the phone. Frankly, ADT is a waste of time & money -- absolutely USELESS. And THESE are the guys we want MONITORING our systems in an emergency?! HA! RIGHT! I've ADT system installed at my store, when burglary happened to my store alarm didn't go off but video clips did capture all the actions (because motion sensor detected the movement) 20min later police arrived (call by one of homeless people just happen working-by and see all the actions) when police walk into the store alarm went off...so ADT call me there's burglary alert... next day I call ADT to find out what happen and why, the agent insisted the alarm did go off at later time and keep urging with me noting wrong with system (because it go off and send alert to me....) after more then 10 minutes explain to her, she finally agreed to send technician come to check out...what kind crappy system... my suggestion is DO NOT use ADT...you will be sorry in your later life. Bait and switch is a morally suspect sales tactic that lures customers in with specific claims about the quality or low prices on items that turn out to be unavailable in order to upsell them on a similar, pricier item. It is considered a form of retail sales fraud, though it takes place in other contexts. I was told when I called the 800 sales number that I wanted a system that will work with my smarthome system and to be able to control it with my app and I wanted two glass brakes and 3 door sensors and fire protection, The sales rep. told me that was no problem and asked for all my information which I gave him. He then told me that I qualified to have the install fee for the $65 a month till the price of the system and installation was paid off then it would be $45 a month. The tech was supposed to be onsite at 9am.. No showed so I called and I was told he will be there at noon. I had to leave to go to work so my 23-year-old son stayed at the house for me waiting for the tech. Tech showed up around noon and my son called me so I could talk with him, I told him what I told the sales guy and got off the phone. I traveled for work so when I came home 3days later I found out that.. 1) The tech was onsite for 4hrs and had only installed 3 (Lic them and stick them) door sensors and one smoke detector and that was it. 2) Then he charged my wife CC $290.23 for the install. instead of the $82.99 at the time of install. So was gone for 3 days at work before I found out about all this and when I called to get answers I was constantly passed around 8 different times(Had to explain the whole story every time) then was told that I would have to pay extra for the ADT connect and the glass breaks and an additional install charge and NO ONE could explain to me why my wife's credit card was charged $290.23. So I got to the point where I just said to cancel it and come pick up the equipment from the front porch, the guy I was on the phone with said ok let me transfer you to contracts. I was put on hold for a second and was hung up on. I was furious at this point I was on the phone for a total of 1hr and 23mins. I then called back to 1800 238-2727 and started the process all over again but this time I got Emmalee H. who helped me with some questions and then I was put in touch with Mariah S. who helped figure out what happened and set me up on a contract (seeing the original one was not done correctly) and got me squared away with a new appointment to have the install corrected. At this point, I am now at 3hrs and 45mis of my time to get this resolved and am still working with Mariah S I will be leaving it at one star for multiple reasons but I give Emmalee H. and Mariah S five stars for customer service. I will also be using this example with my Customer care team at my office as a good training opportunity on what not to do. PS. I divorced and simply wanted to take my ex-husband off the security/camera monitoring because he was basically stalking me and entering my home without my permission. I have been calling ADT for eight months to remedy this, been on hold for literally hundreds of hours, transferred (not my department). Finally, 7 months later, after threatening to cancel and file a complaint since they were basically putting me in physical danger, they sent a technician out to change the system. However, now they are charging me for two accounts. I called twice again last week (on hold more than two hours each time), and then transferred again. They still have not, nor does anyone seem to know how to fix this. Honestly, this is the worst customer service and I am ready to file a complaint with the BBB and the FTC. They allowed an unauthorized person in my home for seven months, when I called constantly to change, and they call themselves a security company? They have yet to resolve this issues 8 months later. I seriously wish I read the reviews before contacting ADT to install an alarm. The salesman was very nice about it in the beginning, like all other salesmen, trying to sell their product to us. He promised that the installation would only take one day and everything would be finished in one week. Today, I am sitting here writing this because everything JUST got finished thanks to one tech who actually knew what he was doing and talking about. The whole job took 2 weeks with three different techs who came out. Each time, all the techs were lost as to what they were suppose to continue to work on. Unprofessional. At least have the decency to update the new techs so that they're not wasting our time. So after three installations, we asked the salesman to come back the following monday to finish everything and show us then we will go ahead and sign the contracts and they can charge us. Note that we emphasized this point. Before Monday (during the weekend), ADT charged our company's credit card without our authorization and added an additional $83. Monday comes. No one shows up to teach us how to use the system. So, in order to cancel the charges, I had to call the customer support, who transferred me back to the ADT Pleasanton office, who said that the next available date they can come back and finish our installation and showing us everything was in ONE WEEK. I'm usually a very patient person but at this point I was pissed. I wanted to uninstall everything and just get our money back. It really wasn't worth all the trouble and the time that we wasted on a simple alarm system. Be known, I was on the phone for over 2 hours getting transferred from one department to another and the whole time I was adamant about getting a refund and canceling our service. I was extremely grumpy and in the worst mood possible. Finally, after the two hours, I was able to reach corporate who talked to the local office and then got our salesperson to come down here the next morning to finalize everything. This is by far the worst customer service ever. Considering how much money ADT steals from customers, I would at least hope they have good communication with each other. NOPE. Everything is a scam. I regret not canceling ADT and letting them come and finish everything and signing the contracts. The only people who were somewhat helpful were people in corporate. Do not use ADT! After having them install a wireless alarm system in 2006, and paying a monthly fee for 9 years, we didn't need much service except for a continual battery failure issue, but we had few complaints until now.....After being a loyal customer for over 9 years, we sold our home and called to cancel the service. After a lengthy discussion to try to get me to transfer the service to the new home, I was given instructions to fax a request with my account number and address with the date of cancellation and reason...why; I have no idea. 3 weeks go by and I receive a letter saying that the account is NOT closed (they require the notice to be signed; not told that before) and I now need to sign a form with the same information and fax it to a different number and wait another 30 days, before they would close the account. Talking to an ADT Manager directly told me everything. It's a scam to stick it to you. By the way, if they determine you are not the correct owner, you must prove the owner is not alive (death certificate) or they don't close the account. Bumped up to 2 stars since the service was good after we finally got it set up. But over-rpiced compared to some of the other alarm companies. ------------------------- We moved into a house with an existing ADT alarm system. We never hooked it up. Two things happened: 1) our insurance company offered a discount if we had a security system which would essentially make the security monitoring free, and 2) we received a letter in the mail that there would be no charge to hook us back up. We went for it. The first step was to get our system verified and hooked back up. The first tech to come out got scared by the size of our installation I guess, because he made some excuse about not having enough "batteries" (for what reason I do not know) and that he was unable to hook up our phone line, so he would have to come back another day. I asked him to have a representative call me and he promised he would. Weeks go by, no call from ADT to reschedule, so I get on the phone again and set up another tech visit. This time a more senior and competent technician comes by and get the phone line hooked up and verifies part of the system, but has to come another day to complete it. Again, no calls from ADT to reschedule, so I get on the phone to track down the right person out of the Pleasanton office, even though I live on the Peninsula. I am passed from one number to another, always get put on hold without warning, only to be sent to another voicemail box for another person for some unknown reason. I demand to speak to the manager, and I do get his voicemail with a referral to someone else - who I do call and get the same tech scheduled again. The tech came out and finished the job, and tell me to hook up to police and fire I just need to call 1-800-ADT-2727 to finish it. I call it, and guess what - I am referred back to the Pleasanton office and go into the same loop again of unending voicemail boxes. At one point it gives me a choice of South Bay and East Bay service numbers. Must be news to them that their office covers the Peninsula - but I pick South Bay. Still it goes into someones voicemail box. My insurance has already been paid so now I have to wait to get a partial refund from them ONCE I actually complete this transaction. This whole process has taken months of waiting and hours on the phone. Do they really want my business? What happens when I really have an emergency - will I get stuck in a voicemail loop again? Do yourself a favor, read all the bad reviews before you contact this company. I was a Brinks customer for more than 13 years, we had no choice but to deal with ADT when we were moving to a new house after Brinks became part of ADT. May be not all ADT offices are bad but this particular one you should stay away from. The sales person came and after spending nearly 2 hours going thru everything, we signed a contract and thought it was going fine. The week followed we had to call many times (he didn't pick up his cell and didn't call back) just to find him for an installation date. Worst, we learned the very day our contract was not followed thru within ADT. The technician came said he was expected to do basic installation. Probably from a different office or company, the technician told us he had seen many cases with the same problem, that the sales was "not doing their job." We spent 1 hour on the phone with the technician's supervisor and the sales manager, and eventually didn't install any system that day because ADT could not honor the package we signed. They couldn't waive the labor charge that was not communicated by the sales and not stated in the contract! We called ADT main line to complaint. The sales rep was making false commitments and signing contracts on behalf of ADT that they would not deliver. Two days later we received a call from the sales manager, and he promised to find out "the other side of the story". We never heard from him since. This is how ADT in overall treats their customers, one would have to believe. My suggestion is to call up ADT authorized dealers to shop around and make sure to get references before you engage with one. Some dealers offer better packages than ADT and they are independent businesses with more likely better customer service and response. The absolute worst service ever! This branch has stolen over $1,000 from us! They came out on October 21st to install our alarm system. I was then told the system we signed up for wasn't going to work and we would need to upgrade to the wireless for more money. The tech left wires everywhere, boxes out and the alarm cover sitting on my staircase with a big hole in the wall. In the meantime ADT cashed our check for installation for over $1,000. The rep Tim came back out to set up another installation 2 weeks later and still nothing was done. I have called the office to request for a refund since we are out over $1,000 and have NOTHING to show for it. I finally got my rebate check. (Thanks only to the 1-800 number's customer service. The local office stopped returning my calls.) But I'm not writing this update because of my rebate victory. 5 months after my installation we had our first rain of the season. My roof has never had a leak and I've lived in this house for 6.5 years. Well, you guessed it. I developed a water leak and it was coming from a hole that ADT had drilled to install my front door alarm. My husband had no choice but to climb into the attic himself and to no surprise, ADT had drilled through my roof as well. We bought some roof patching stuff and sealed the hole. I won't know if that fixed it until the next storm. I called the 1-800 number and although that service agent couldn't help me she was very apologetic and told me that I had to call the local installation office. I'm fairly confident that the hole is sealed but called them just to see what their reaction would be. There was no apology...just a monotone voice that they would send someone out to look at it. I told them that the call was not to send out a repair person but to report the incident so perhaps they'll stop drilling through roofs in the future. (And I told them that I'll see how it goes the next time it rains and if it continues to leak I'll give them a call back.) NO reaction whatsoever from the local office representative. Go figure.
