I am withdrawing, and my new electrician told me he gets five calls a day of folks wanting to get out of ADT. he says "You pay and pay" and this is true whether you receive effective service or not. I'm stuck in with ADT after moving to a new apartment that has a no unlock policy for alarm calls. I found out about this policy when I had my alarm go off when I wasn't home and advised the police be called. The police couldn't get into the building and I got stuck with a "false alarm" bill. So finally an agent came to my house today to get things back to "normal" Mr VIENS is his name, a cool guy who was the one who came the first day to install everything. For what he said all cameras and doorbell ring should be working good now! I added another star today to give it another try. This company is really great at making money. System is absolutely worthless but they excel in making money. The representative for ADT came every week without fail to convince me to use their product. Without fail! Rain or shine! Once I finally agreed a representative has never been seen again. And the 3 camera system he sold me became a two camera system because of course my internet wasn't any good. Was never told a three camera system needed the fastest internet on the market...but I learned after installation! And please always read the fine print. I'm in for 5 long years for a system that doesn't work! To use the term spotty...is to be extremely generous! For my system to work when it's needed you would have to be the most unlucky perpetrator to walk the earth. ADT is a TERRIBLE company to work with. I called after seeing they were running a "free estimate and installation" special. I wasn't sure what I would need for my home so was interested in setting up an estimate time. They pressured me from the beginning to give them my credit card info. I should've hung up then and looked into other systems, but I didn't. The representative came out for my free estimate but also to install my equipment. I wasn't exactly prepared for the install, I was just wanting to know what equipment I needed and how much it would cost, etc. While he was there, he told me my basement looked like the basement in a horror movie, told me multiple times he was worried that someone might be "waiting in the back room when you come home", and then explained how they aren't supposed to use scare tactics- I was terrified and felt a lot of pressure to buy equipment. When my husband wasn't completley onboard with the equipment cost, the representative told me he sees disagreements all the time but never a husband NOT wanting the equipment (insinuating my husband doesn't want to keep his family safe). Lastly, I was told when I set up my estimate time that the monthly cost would be around $30. However, the representative said that price wouldn't work because we didn't have a landline or something (because we do have a landline). It then was going to be over $50/month. It is completely on me that I signed on the dotted line and let him install the equipment, however, I felt EXTREME pressure through my whole experience. I did my research that evening after talking it over with my husband and realized I had 3 days (3 day right of rescission) to void the contract and get my money back. The horror story continues... I had to fax a written notice of my cancellation. I called to follow up and they "hadn't gotten" the first fax. I then faxed again, I emailed, I called. I followed up every time and was on the phone countless hours being transferred back and forth between corporate ADT and the local ADT branch (Defenders). Finally, they acknowledged that they recieved my cancellation of my service. They came and took it down- that was over a month ago and I still haven't received over $700 in refund because (after countelss hours again on the phone) their billing dept. is having difficulties. The technology IS poorly dsigned and they expect Customers to use multiple applications to manage, operate and pay for services. To add insult they use contract "lock ins" to force payments even when Customers are leaving the house where their gear is installed. STRONGLY NOT RECOMMEND... there are many better options that cost less are more flexible and don't use contract chokeholds to bleed Custoers. We will NEVER use them again! read more

I had been an Akerman customer for years and unfortunately they were swallowed up by ADT. I always had excellent service and they would occasionally charge a small fee to come out. Sometimes they didn't charge anything. Back in Jan, my ADT system went down and we went unmonitored for a bit before I called for repair as the usual troubleshooting method didn't work for me. So, I called in late Jan to request repair. Tried troubleshooting with their assistance, but was unsuccessful. The Adm told me it would north of $60.00 for someone to come out and $20.00/hr for them to fix it. I told I was new to them from Akerman and they never charged these absorbenate amt for something to look at it, let alone an Hrly rate and cost of equipment. I became excited in a bad way and told her in no uncertain terms would I be paying for this crap and said "get rid of it", close it, etc. Although we weren't monitored, I still paid the bill when it came. I went to Brinks after searching for other than 'ADT' companies.. I return home from travels to find a large Bill from ADT. This is when they actually closed the account. However. Equipment still not work, still not being kept safe, and they continued to demand payment. Their error, not closing the acct in Jan. My error for not calling when another bill came. I spoke with so many people at ADT and the only remedy they could offer was $26.00 adjustment. They acknowledge that I was being monitored since mid January, but the account wasn't closed when I requested. I too them to April to close the acct and they want there money. For WHAT? Don't use them and please help stop ADT from gaining the monopoly on Home Security systems. read more

I would not even give them one star if possible. We just got an alarm installed, two outdoor cameras pointing at front of house ,stairs and front right side of property, and a doorbell camera. Well, the catalytic converter was stolen from my car at 7:40 in the morning. It was done very fast. Called police, they asked to see video from camera. The camera was never turned on, never recording. We called ADT and told them the installation was not doe properly. For this I was offered an apology, and $1100.00 refund on our systems cameras for tw0 months. WOW! The installer we had here told me that ADT did not offer good training, so he was making mistakes the entire time. Then the doorbell kept ringing, sounded like an old telephone ring, we disconnected the ringer, and now the doorbell does not work at all. Called our sales representative, Cristian Suarez, asked him to please help us out, he said he would, but he is ignoring us and will not even pick up the phone. On hold for over 5 minutes to talk with a person, then when they find out I want to reduce my rate since my contract is u, they put me back on hold for 25 more minutes to speak to an account specialist. this is very frustrating, but yet I do understand sometimes the phone lines get busy. My real complaint is how they attempt to 'Nickel and Dime' you for all they can. I DO NOT like companies that do this to people. The majority of customers that this is done to (3 of which are neighbors), are elderly who do not know much about security systems and have been paying higher than usual bills for years at a time. I asked for a new monthly quote and was offered about 10% reduction which is a joke considering I can easily get monitoring for a third of what I was paying. Never use ADT. My wife and I were in the process of selling our house in San Francisco. Not knowing until 2 weeks out what the closing date was, I called ADT to cancel the service 1 day after close. ADT customer service said fine all will be taken care of. Well the house sold, we moved out that day and a week later two false alarms were registered by SF Police. After two false alarm one gets fined $100 by the City of SF. ADT said it was my fault; I did not give them 30 days notice. I pleaded and said how could I give 30 days notice when I wasn't sure of close of escrow. They said read the small print. I would have cut the wires if I had know this. Don't use ADT! Absolutely a scam. Not a transparent or trustworthy company. When I was setting up my account over the phone, I informed the agent that I would only need the ADT service for one year. She told me that they would send a standard 3 year contract but not to worry about it and I could cancel at any time. Meanwhile, when I attempted to cancel I was told that there would be a $1,300 cancellation fee! There was no mention of this when I signed up. She also quoted me a price of about $28 per month while on the phone, but once the installer showed up he said it was $54 per month. I wish I had never installed ADT. Horrible customer service! Worst company I have EVER dealt with!!! We were approved a week ago for their system and the same day they came out took down my old system and replaced it with theirs. When the technician was finishing up he received a phone call that said their was a problem with our account. I later learned that they wanted me to pay a 17 year old debt from a previously closed security account from a company they bought out. I refused and asked them to come get their equipment and reinstall the security system they had taken down. They said they do not do that nor pay for the other company to reinstall it either. Finally, they took $210 from our bank the day they install their equipment but now it will take about 30 days to be reimbursed,REALLY!!!! What a joke for a company!!! read more

To cancel service you call their main number, wait about five minutes. Then when you tell them you want to cancel you go through the initial screener, then she puts you on hold, then wait and wait and wait for the second screener to come on and try and talk you out of it. After a thirty two minute wait to get past second screener, then they give you to the hard sell guy and you have to convince him you don't need the service. They know exactly what they are doing, some people may give up. Very shady practice for an old company like this. Finally, did get it cancelled, hopefully, or at least they said it was. read more

My experience with ADT San Jose was terrific. Oscar was a terrific salesperson and patiently walked me through my options. He gave me good, clear, and honest advice, and together we came up with the right choices at a very reasonable and competitive price. I called a couple of more times with questions, and Oscar was always patient and clear with his explanations and advice. Then he was able to schedule for installation within a few days. The ADT installer Han was really outstanding in the installation of my ADT alarm system and the takeover of my old system. As soon as the technician could see that the effort might take longer than expected, he called for a 2nd helper and they worked very efficiently to get the job completed. He consulted with me on options for where to install the equipment, how be to get access to the needed power and internet, patiently answered all of my many questions, and cleared up thoroughly when finished. He walked through the operation of the system and the remote and all testing functions. Han was highly professional and extremely capably and knowledgeable on all aspects of the system and it works flawlessly. I highly recommend the "pulse" option for checking or activating the system remotely. I'm contacting the better business bureau. My 3 year contract ended almost a year ago. I've been trying to cancel this commercial service for 2 months! Cancellation has to be done with a 30 day notice in writing. I just received another bill. I was told ADT never received my cancellation. I had to send another cancellation notice today. I was advised to include a copy of my business license to make sure I'm the person who set up the account........NO, I'm not sending that. It's like sending your SS #, to much personal information. I am highly disappointed with this service I am relocating and was not told upon relocation, contract would have to start over, instead of just moving contract over as well makes no sense why I have to start a whole new contract. It is not written in the current contract that I have to do that and trying to get somebody to listen to or help me when I call is a joke. After we had our equipment removed and paid our final balance due, they continued to call and bill us and now have turned our "account" over to a collection agency. This after my wife spent probably 2 (two) hours on the phone, on multiple occasions, with ADT agents who told us that everything had been cleared up and was OK. I had ADT installed a year ago. In the past year they have not called the correct number one single time, during an emergency. I tried to have service moved when we moved. ADT did not realize they needed to perform the uninstall prior to reinstall. We tried to get the install appointment made only to be hung up on by rude call receivers 7 times in one week. The stress was so great that our blood pressure is through the roof. If you're looking for a reliable security service through a company that employs people who can read, follow directions or has at least one brain cell, Do NOT choose ADT. Got double billed for months. then they finally after many phone calls admitted to an error and then credited the wrong account with the credit. Dummy. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!! They just want your money. MY(frustrating) experience with them. 1) I was calling to get information about their plans and I clearly told them not to run a credit check. But ADT/Defender ran my credit anyway. 2) I had a security assessment and walk through scheduled at my home on Thursday 10/18/18 but had called over the phone to cancel due to some issues with my new house. I was also told over the phone that it is a free assessment, and I won't be charged until I install their system. But they charged me $109 without my permission. So since the guy was already there i was friendly and greeted him but explained i had canceled and was no longer looking for security at the moment due to some issues. He stated he couldn't leave until his boss gave him permission. His boss(ADAM) was very rude and told him to just leave the security system on my counter and to leave and that i wasn't receiving a refund (YET I DIDN'T EVEN RECEIVE INSTALLATION NOR DID HE EVEN TAKE OUT THE SYSTEM OUT OF HIS CAR) When i told him(Adam) My husband was on deployment and wasn't moving in until January ADAM kept pushing it on me after telling him NO several times. He states he already had a cancellation and couldn't receive another cancellation for the day. THAT IS NOT MY PROBLEM. They instillation person was very nice but stayed at my house (inside) for 2 hours. I Had to speak to 4 different people just to cancel and have the tech person to leave. Lousy equipment. Solid state Motion sensor repeatedly triggered with no one in the house. The door sensors false alarm showing tamper switch triggered until spring inside is stretched to eliminate heat tempering. Service is expensive and slow, they blame the Pandemic. On false alarms they won't deal with the Police Department forcing the homeowner to risk that they won't refund the multi-hundred dollar false alarm charge. These folks are the worst. read more

I seriously wish I read the reviews before contacting ADT to install an alarm. The salesman was very nice about it in the beginning, like all other salesmen, trying to sell their product to us. He promised that the installation would only take one day and everything would be finished in one week. Today, I am sitting here writing this because everything JUST got finished thanks to one tech who actually knew what he was doing and talking about. The whole job took 2 weeks with three different techs who came out. Each time, all the techs were lost as to what they were suppose to continue to work on. Unprofessional. At least have the decency to update the new techs so that they're not wasting our time. So after three installations, we asked the salesman to come back the following monday to finish everything and show us then we will go ahead and sign the contracts and they can charge us. Note that we emphasized this point. Before Monday (during the weekend), ADT charged our company's credit card without our authorization and added an additional $83. Monday comes. No one shows up to teach us how to use the system. So, in order to cancel the charges, I had to call the customer support, who transferred me back to the ADT Pleasanton office, who said that the next available date they can come back and finish our installation and showing us everything was in ONE WEEK. I'm usually a very patient person but at this point I was pissed. I wanted to uninstall everything and just get our money back. It really wasn't worth all the trouble and the time that we wasted on a simple alarm system. Be known, I was on the phone for over 2 hours getting transferred from one department to another and the whole time I was adamant about getting a refund and canceling our service. I was extremely grumpy and in the worst mood possible. Finally, after the two hours, I was able to reach corporate who talked to the local office and then got our salesperson to come down here the next morning to finalize everything. This is by far the worst customer service ever. Considering how much money ADT steals from customers, I would at least hope they have good communication with each other. NOPE. Everything is a scam. I regret not canceling ADT and letting them come and finish everything and signing the contracts. The only people who were somewhat helpful were people in corporate. Do not use ADT! Avoid ADT at all costs. After having them install a wireless alarm system in 2006, and paying a monthly fee for 9 years, we didn't need much service except for a continual battery failure issue, but we had few complaints until now.....After being a loyal customer for over 9 years, we sold our home and called to cancel the service. After a lengthy discussion to try to get me to transfer the service to the new home, I was given instructions to fax a request with my account number and address with the date of cancellation and reason...why; I have no idea. 3 weeks go by and I receive a letter saying that the account is NOT closed (they require the notice to be signed; not told that before) and I now need to sign a form with the same information and fax it to a different number and wait another 30 days, before they would close the account. Talking to an ADT Manager directly told me everything. It's a scam to stick it to you. By the way, if they determine you are not the correct owner, you must prove the owner is not alive (death certificate) or they don't close the account. Bumped up to 2 stars since the service was good after we finally got it set up. But over-rpiced compared to some of the other alarm companies. ------------------------- We moved into a house with an existing ADT alarm system. We never hooked it up. Two things happened: 1) our insurance company offered a discount if we had a security system which would essentially make the security monitoring free, and 2) we received a letter in the mail that there would be no charge to hook us back up. We went for it. The first step was to get our system verified and hooked back up. The first tech to come out got scared by the size of our installation I guess, because he made some excuse about not having enough "batteries" (for what reason I do not know) and that he was unable to hook up our phone line, so he would have to come back another day. I asked him to have a representative call me and he promised he would. Weeks go by, no call from ADT to reschedule, so I get on the phone again and set up another tech visit. This time a more senior and competent technician comes by and get the phone line hooked up and verifies part of the system, but has to come another day to complete it. Again, no calls from ADT to reschedule, so I get on the phone to track down the right person out of the Pleasanton office, even though I live on the Peninsula. I am passed from one number to another, always get put on hold without warning, only to be sent to another voicemail box for another person for some unknown reason. I demand to speak to the manager, and I do get his voicemail with a referral to someone else - who I do call and get the same tech scheduled again. The tech came out and finished the job, and tell me to hook up to police and fire I just need to call 1-800-ADT-2727 to finish it. I call it, and guess what - I am referred back to the Pleasanton office and go into the same loop again of unending voicemail boxes. At one point it gives me a choice of South Bay and East Bay service numbers. Must be news to them that their office covers the Peninsula - but I pick South Bay. Still it goes into someones voicemail box. My insurance has already been paid so now I have to wait to get a partial refund from them ONCE I actually complete this transaction. This whole process has taken months of waiting and hours on the phone. Do they really want my business? What happens when I really have an emergency - will I get stuck in a voicemail loop again? Do yourself a favor, read all the bad reviews before you contact this company. I was a Brinks customer for more than 13 years, we had no choice but to deal with ADT when we were moving to a new house after Brinks became part of ADT. May be not all ADT offices are bad but this particular one you should stay away from. The sales person came and after spending nearly 2 hours going thru everything, we signed a contract and thought it was going fine. The week followed we had to call many times (he didn't pick up his cell and didn't call back) just to find him for an installation date. Worst, we learned the very day our contract was not followed thru within ADT. The technician came said he was expected to do basic installation. Probably from a different office or company, the technician told us he had seen many cases with the same problem, that the sales was "not doing their job." We spent 1 hour on the phone with the technician's supervisor and the sales manager, and eventually didn't install any system that day because ADT could not honor the package we signed. They couldn't waive the labor charge that was not communicated by the sales and not stated in the contract! We called ADT main line to complaint. The sales rep was making false commitments and signing contracts on behalf of ADT that they would not deliver. Two days later we received a call from the sales manager, and he promised to find out "the other side of the story". We never heard from him since. This is how ADT in overall treats their customers, one would have to believe. My suggestion is to call up ADT authorized dealers to shop around and make sure to get references before you engage with one. Some dealers offer better packages than ADT and they are independent businesses with more likely better customer service and response. I spent approximately $2500 on an alarm system for my home 5 months ago. One of the window sensors recently went off while I was away and the police came and reported that there was no sign of a break in. Since I've been home I went out and left the same window open by accident and discovered upon my return that the open window had not registered on the keypad as being open. I had been able to alarm while the window was open. I called a technician who informed me it could be a faulty battery even though it was a new device installed five months ago. I need a service call. ADT charges $25 for a service call /trip charge for a faulty device they installed and when the alarm system they installed is not working as it it should. Hmmmm... Been a customer 20 years. Called a few months ago to disconnect service because we were moving. For over two months now the alarm beeps constantly and anyone entering the house has to press the cancel button otherwise the beep continues and as of last week the house alarm was going off. If it were connected to ADT'S service the police would come. We have called several times and they keep telling us they'll walk us through a power down. We don't even know what part they are referring to or where it is. (It's in the attic per them). The house has no attic! They refuse to send out a technician to help solve the problem!
