I used to be a customer, had few issues and swap to Xfinity and was happy. I moved and xfinity doesn't serve my new address. I wait the tech all day and he didn't show up. Now they are telling me to reschedule for 3 weeks from today on a weekday (when i work) later. This is extremely disappointing and disrespectful. They said they don't have appointments for any Saturday. In summary i was trying to be a returning customer, waited 2 weeks for my appointment, waited all Saturday for the tech that didn't show up and now they don't have a date to install my system. My experience with ADT was not through their service per se, but actually by one of their salesmen. One of them rang my bell tonight, and was probably one of the pushiest salespersons that I have experienced in a while. He just would not listen to no, and after being polite for a while, I literally had to close the door on him. This pretty made up my decision to never become a customer to ADT all by itself, but after seeing the experiences many other people here on Yelp, I can see that I made the right decision. ADT sales is the most shady operation I've ever dealt with!!! I asked multiple times how much my monthly dues would be if I had no LAN line. The sales associate, Carl, told me that it was normally more but they guaranteed me $27.99 a month. The supposed manager got on the line and said the same thing. I confirmed this at least 3 times and clearly made them understand that I have NO LAN LINE. The tech shows up, completes the installation and hands me the contract on his table. The monthly dues were DOUBLE what they quoted me!!! Because ADT uses multiple contractors- not all services is consistent. Whenever I had issues with the system, it would take multiple departments in order to fix. When my alarm would go off- I wouldn't even get a call 1 out of 2 times! One time in particular, I had wanted to upgrade my system- and I was told that I couldn't because a third party had installed. I was mystified- how was it I had an ADT bill every month, and spoke to an ADT representative and they couldn't make the switch? Multiple departments later- they couldn't figure it out. How does a home security system operate when they have such a lack of internal communication? Ultimately, after 8 years of somewhat questionable service- I switched to a new home security provider- who was able to upgrade to new and so much better system with a more reliable company that provided digital cameras, smoke monitoring etc. When you have a choice in home security providers- buyer beware! read more

I called ADT yesterday because my pulse system stopped working on my app. They troubleshoot it and still wouldn't work over the phone. The representative from ADT said we can send a technician out to my home the next day between 12pm and 5pm. Technician (Ryan Fryerbach) arrived around 2:30p. I had a problem with my system communication for over a week. Alarms going off in the middle of the night . Many calls into the call center , reset system to no avail . Only Cell tower down . Made an appointment for service which took one week . No one could shut the alarm bells until Service Tech Eric arrived . If I could give it no stars I would. Service was great and Illinois.. Paid 500 and some change every year.. For moving to Arizona Mesa they. Charge me 390 something dollars of the 444 dollar credit I was supposed to receive for transferring. But I wasn't aware of that till today. They also didn't let me know that the city of Mesa has a $20 a year permit to own an alarm service in your place...... shouldn't have had to sign a new contract when I was just transferring from one state to another. Also if I cancel now it will be $1,000 and something for cancellation fees.. after 10 plus years of dedication this is the way they do me.. Had to pay a $100 permit fee plus the 20 the only one in the state of Arizona they did not notify me that I was supposed to have a permit so when the alarm went off falsely they find me the hundred dollars.. they are so full of crap I can't wait after pain 40 something dollars a month.. UPDATE: To get out of my contract, it's only $1,470. They're going to send a new technician out to see if he can fix the alarm system. The earliest they can get here is in six days. The visit will be during the day, so I get to miss more work. This company should be investigated by Congress. UPDATE 2: I've reached out to my fire department to get their opinion on the install that I've posted a picture of. I can't imagine this is up to code. My experience has been very negative. I'm writing this review at 3:00 AM when I should be sleeping. Instead, I am awake because the alarm system started beeping and wouldn't stop until I powered the system down. This has happened more than once this week. ADT said they would have someone out in 3.5 weeks to repair the system. Merry Christmas. I had the alarm system installed two years ago. Fortunately I never had any home security issues in that time. November 2015 they had to update my alarm system, because it was going to be out of date soon. The technician who came to our home was nice enough. He was also pushing his multilevel marketing side "business." I certainly didn't appreciate that. It took about 4.5 hours to upgrade our system. A little over the time they said it would take. Very acceptable from my perspective. The new hardware for the ADT system is a visual eyesore. The older system was smaller and vastly more subtle. The power part is hooked up to the nearest outlet. There is also some other box installed next to that. Because we don't have an outlet in our closet, it's installed on the outside of our homes closet. That assembly is composed of a medium sized surge protector that has a red light for power. Next to that is another box mounted to the wall. I am not pleased with the new larger assembly, and red light it emits. The mounting job they did with the new hardware uses zip ties for some of it. Sadly it's not tied tight, and the thickness of the zip ties is very thin. The whole thing is rather wobbly and a good bump would dismount the thing from the wall. I also wasn't aware they were going to drill mounting brackets into my wall. The size of this portion of the system is about 4" x 8" x 11". Unfortunately we don't have any furniture in this part of our home that would hide this stuff. Then about a week after our system was upgraded it started beeping and turning off due to lack of power. We called ADT and they said the earliest they could get someone to our home was 3.5 weeks. As a temporary workaround, we were told to turn the power supply off and on. This temporary solution works for maybe a day. Then yet again our panel starts beeping like an alarm clock that it's running on battery power. Then a few hours later it shuts off from lack of power. Additionally for the multiple times the power went out, we intermittently received robocalls from ADT to notify us. After the first few times this happened, I started ignoring the calls. No further notifications or followup was done by ADT for these service interruptions. In the last week, we have twice been awoken in the middle of the night from beeping. The product is a visual eye sore. The earliest ADT can fix it is 3.5 weeks. Their contracted technician tried to sell us his multilevel marketing system. The mounting installation for the power supply is inadequate. The 24 hour a day alarm system that we pay for doesn't run 24 hours in a row. When our alarm system is shutting down, they use a computerized system to call us. We simply can't leave the house without knowing the alarm system will shut off. The phone number used to contact ADT has a computerized answering system where you press 1 for this, and two for that. For a good time, call 800-252-2029. This is a joke, and the jokes on me. We have decided to turn off our alarm system and cancel our service. I am looking forward to business hours when I can talk to someone about canceling our service. I spent $3000.00 and signed a non-refundable 3 year contract at $53/month. Once you pass the three day rescind period, and you have not cancelled the contract, despite health emergencies, they will not allow you out of their contract. Once the skilled ADT salesperson sticks it to you for the initial installation they are totally unreachable. They claimed I did not have enough gigabytes to support in-home wifi cameras. If I could give ADT a negative star, I would. My brother, who is a disabled veteran with mental illness was charged for over 18 months for a residence he did not even live in. He went missing in July 2019, and going through his paperwork I called ADT and tried to cancel, but they would not let me. They kept taking money out of his bank account. He was found dead in the desert in Arizona on August 13, 2019 so I sent ADT his death certificate and told them to cancel (for an address he had not lived at for over 18 months). ADT STILL is taking out monies out of his bank account as they need a 30 day notice. My goodness---even when someoine dies they still take out money!!! Ridiculous!! I have been with ADT for a little over 8 months now and it's been going well until I decided to order cameras to add on to my house. Over the phone the order process was ok then the install day came the technician called 30 minutes prior to the appointment everything seamed ok I told him someone would be here when he arrived. Then I get a call back from the technician about 45 minutes later to inform me that I myself had to be there to sign a contract before he started the job. Really? Ok sorry I wasn't informed I had to be there but just someone over the age of 18 with access to the home. No problem he said we can reschedule you for later today if that works yes I say what time? He said he would call back and let me know so he did about 10 minutes later how's Between 12-3 I say fine I will leave work early and meet you then. I leave my job early 4 1/2 hours early drive 25 miles back home just to wait, and wait. Finally 1:45 I get a call from ATD telling me they can't make it and want to reschedule me two weeks later and also during work hours yep you guessed it 12-3 gtfoh now I'm out 4 1/2 hours of pay from leaving work early and now they want to try this bs with me again?? No thanks cancelled install and now I wish I could cancel this contract not a happy customer. read more

I felt he was trying to scare me and I don't appreciate predatory sales tactics. ADT please stop going door to door. Most people don't like being bothered at home. We have had ADT for several years with no problem. we decided to add additional cameras and relocate a couple. we had a bump in the road between the salesman and the tech that came out to install. long story but the short of it is. they did right by us because of the inconvenience. Nothing is Consistant. Sales reps don't communicate with techs. Tech don't communicate with sales reps. The service is shotty. It's way too expensive for the lack of technology. Their new system looks like a toy. Not advance machine. The billing process isn't managed well so there are constant issues and when it's ads fault they won't fix it. I can go on and on and on. I would just say avoid it altogether. Vivint based on my research of technology appears to be the best for the best price tho I can't say from personal experience as I am still contracted into ADT a little longer :-( read more

We had a fire alarm at our house and ADT never called. I called them to understand why we did not receive a call. They told me that they have not been receiving a connection from our house recently and that our system was outdated. They said that they had gone through customers' systems and proactively upgraded most customers, but that my house had been missed. I cancelled the service and asked for a credit (only one month) because they had not been providing me service. It took 30 minutes of arguing before they would provide it. read more

I would put ZERO stars if this let me. The installers didn't communicate or train us on the system where we actually tested their setup - they only told us how it was supposed to work. When the delay was set too short for the run to the panel to enter our access code and I called to ask how to fix it I was told: now that you have signed off on the installation it is no longer ADT's responsibility, however I can get a technician out there and tell you how much that will cost. Really? I have Simplisafe at my cabin and pay less than half of what ADT charges and their service has been fantastic. On one Halloween night me, my two children and grandson went to bed early. I was awoken by my alarm going off it had been going off for about 5 minutes before I was aware and able to get up and turn it off. I thought my children would turn it off but realized they were asleep then I wondered why is it going off and why didn't I or one of my contacts or he police get a call from ADT that it was going off. When I got to the kitchen to turn it off I noticed that my kitchen door was wide open and that my kitchen window over the sink was broken that means to me that someone broke in open the door and set the alarm off. And I never ever heard from ADT. Until I call them the next day to ask them how come no one ever alerted anyone they have done so in the past but when I really needed them and could have been killed they did not respond. I got all kinds of run around and was told that I was only paying for maintenance fees whatever that means. After all I went through they were only willing to offer me 3 months of free service is that all my life and my children lives are worth I think not I will never ever want to do business with them again. if anyone knows of a better security system please share. read more

No star would be a better description. We purchased a winter home in the Legends in Tempe, AZ, The previous homeowner had a contract with ADT [the equipment is in the house]. We tried, using 2 800 telephone numbers to get a service call by an ADT Tech in order to deactivate/remove the equipment, which, perhaps due a low battery, beeps intermittently. ADT would do nothing for us but install a new system, which "will be less expensive than a $500.00 visit by a Tech to evaluate. I had ADT installed into my new house after I moved within the state and had my system transferred. Just to give you an idea of who I am, I am a busy physician with a family just trying to establish a secure home. 1. I had multiple techs come out and assess my house and they all told me different things and prices, their time windows are 4-5 hours. I spent so many of my off weekends sitting at home waiting for the technicians to arrive or adjusting my work schedule. It took 4 different technicians and dates to finally come up with a proper system. 2. After poor signal errors and text message alerts notifying me that my system was not working properly, multiple techs came out again up to 8 times in a 3 month period. One technician even came early at 7:45am (window was 8am-12) and didn't ring the doorbell. He left a notice on my door that he didn't have the equipment and I had to reschedule. It wasn't until 11:30am when I called into the ADT main office that I had learned that I was sitting at home on Sat morning waiting for a technician who had "already come" 3. I finally canceled my ADT service, but not without a fight and multiple calls. First I was told that I would receive a full refund because it was less than 6 months and my system never functioned properly. Then I was told I would be penalized for canceling my service early (even though the system never worked properly and I had to invest a lot of time off work waiting for technicians to come). I finally had the equipment picked up and was told the account was canceled. 4. 4 months later (hence why I am writing this review) I noticed on my bank statements that I have been charged monthly $60 even after ALL THE EQUIPMENT IS OUT OF MY HOUSE! I then had to call and discuss my case for over an hour trying to get my account officially canceled and a refund. GO WITH PROTECTION 1.... I HAVE HAD THEM FOR 4 MONTHS AND NO ISSUES. read more

They installed it at 9pm on Fri night by 7am Sat morning we knew it would not work, we called the salesman back and he said no problem, I'll have them come right out and cancel and you won't be charged. Well that was a lie. Promptly at 6 am Mon morning my account gets a charge, I contact him back, he does not answer phone calls he barely answered my texts. He then informs me that to cancel I have to fax a cancelation form which is in the contract that I received in my email. Except that it was never sent. Thomas Ryder did not do honest business. I made the arrangements for the fax to take place verified that all parties that needed to receive it had. I asked him about refund and he said Oh, I don't deal with that so I cannot tell you how long it will take. Another web of lies. Finally after trying to get a hold of someone for over 10 days I get transfered to ADT corporate, I tell them exactly how I am feeling, and what I want. He says well if you let me finish, after I told him if he cannot help to transfer me to a supervisor, he goes through his shpeel just to waste my time. I asked him to transfer me to a supervisor, and he promptly put me on hold and hung up on me. I call back and without even a response am put on hold. This hold has been over 20 min and I have yet to talk to a soul. According to the 1st gentleman it takes 45 days to get any type of refund and we should just know that, even though it is not written anywhere on the contract that I supposedly signed and received. read more

Unbelievable!!! When I originally purchased the services, I advised the sales representative, Jonny Wagner that I would only accept a 1 year contract. The contract that he had specified 3 years. He said it would be no problem and filled out a "ADT Terms and Conditions Rider." It states "ADT and the customer above agree to a contract term of 12 months". I questioned the process and he assured me that when I cancel, just advise them of the "Rider". Well, I have spent half the day on the phone to their call center. They are set up to make sure it is not easy to speak to anyone. When I finally got a person to speak with, she tells me that she has never heard of anything like that and I am responsible for the entire 3 years. I told her again that I have this "Rider" on official company paperwork, and she says too bad. After a very spirited discussion, she come back and tells me to FAX it to a Ms Hern and she will call me back. Yes, I said FAX, she said that they can't use email because it may crash the server! So it would appear that it is ADT's business model to lie and tell customers whatever to get the sale, then not honor their written contracts by just ignoring the issue and telling you that you are responsible. Don't waste your money on this company and its worthless system. I've had this system for less than 4 months and have already had 3 service calls. The first was because the sales agent lied to me about the equipment I would need. He said animals under 50 lbs would not set off the system, but my cats set it off within 3 weeks so they had to come out and give me different equipment for that. The second time was because one of their sensors stopped working; this was 2 months into having the system. The one that broke was the one that someone broke into causing me to get a security system in the first place!!! I had to bypass that door for a week because they couldn't be bothered to come fix their equipment. A week ago my husband and I were watching TV on a Friday night and our alarm started going off. ADT NEVER CALLED!!!! I had to call them to ask if they knew my alarm was going off!!!!! They had no idea my alarm was going off!!!!! THEY HAD NO IDEA MY ALARM WAS GOING OFF!!!! DON'T LET THEM SELL YOU ON HAVING MULTIPLE MONITORING SITES WHEN NONE OF THEM KNOW YOUR SYSTEM IS GOING OFF!!! So now I sit again a week later because they can't be bothered to have any availability prior to that waiting for someone to fix it again. All week I've been getting emails stating that my system has gone off, BUT NO PHONE CALLS. I have the system that is supposed to send notifications through cell towers so even if my power went out and someone cut my phone line I was supposed to still be safe. How is this safe?!?! I am stuck in a 3 year contract that I would have to pay $3k+ to get out of so that's why I cant switch yet. Again i am only 4 MONTHS into the service. My wife ordered an ADT system (We had their system in California and cancelled the service when we moved.) She told me the installer would be at our home at 3pm. At exactly 3pm the installer was at the door and introduced himself. I invited him in and showed him through our home. He wrote up a suggested coverage plan which included all door and windows. A little over $3,000 I made a negative remark, he then said for Veterans they would install everything for what was greatly reduced, but still more than what I was willing to pay. We opted for the basic package covering all doors and a few of the windows in the hidden areas around our home as well as motion detection. He did not balk at the basic coverage and did not seem disappointed that he was not able to upsell us. The installation was almost flawless (he demonstrated with one of the wireless window transmitters and then forgot to move it up out of view (not a big deal they are applied with double sided tape). He advised he could not use any of the old equipment that had been previously installed. He instructed us on the use of the keypad and on the key fobs. The monitoring is probably at least double the price that other companies offer their services for (The reason for only 4 stars) but with the Yelp low marks from others, I was prepared to toss them and search for another company. I'm not elated at having to sign a three year contract, but happy wife, happy life! If for some reason this all goes South, believe I will be back on here to update our status. On June 15th, one of their representatives came to our house to discuss ADT in our home. First off, she most chain smoke in her car because she reeked of smoke and so did our house for some time after she left. She did not seem that knowledgeable about ADT and everything she said sounded very rehearsed. We asked various questions on the additional equipment available and her only response was "you can discuss that with the technician when he's here". She told us our monthly cost would be $49.99 for Pulse. She said we had $250 to use towards equipment but didn't really explain much. We made an appointment for installation. June 17th a technician came to set everything up. My husband was there for the installation. We were then told it would cost us roughly $1500 to apply sensors to all the windows and couple extra things. I'm upset with the lack of information the representative had when she was selling us on your company. She should be more familiar with the products. Now, back to the installation. My husband signed the contract and set up a payment plan for the total cost. The technician told him everything would be emailed to him. When I got home, I was a little flustered by the price of it all. I went to review the cost of everything and all the invoice said was 3 payments of $xx. No itemization or anything. We waited all weekend for the email with the invoice and contract and received nothing. Finally, Monday my husband reached out to the technician. It took them 3 days to email the paperwork due to issues. After reviewing them, the math is wrong. We were overcharged by at least $210. And it says our monthly fee is $52.99, not $49.99 as we were told. We've been trying to settle the charges and it's still going on. Still no current invoice. I called ADT. They told me I had to contact the subcontractor. I've called multiple numbers and keeping leaving voicemails for the Operations Manager. He won't respond. He responds to my husband's emails every 3 days or so. All I want is an updated itemized invoice to make sure the math is correct. In closing, my biggest complaints/areas needed for improvement: 1. Representatives should know and understand your product. 2. Technicians should know basic arithmetic.
