Wow!!! So after searching various restaurants for our mini wedding dinner, we landed on Adega. The best thing that could of happened. Due to my recent visit I had to update my review and take a star away. I wanted a delicious steak so I came here alone for lunch and I didn't leave happy. I had to wave the bartender down in a help me motion to get any attention from them. I felt like chopped liver. When I was finally able to order my beverage it wrong and she had to re make it. I ordered a ribeye steak that was so fatty I had to stop eating it. I also asked for it to be cooked med rare but they brought it to me well done. I feel from all of my experiences at Adegas at the bar the bartenders main focus are men that frequent the restaurant instead of every single person that decides to walk through that door. I did ask to speak to the manager not to complain but to ask him about one of pictures that they used for the magazine and he totally forgot to come back and talk to me. Never again! read more

I went for Thanksgiving and I have to say my family and I were treated very well. My family was apprehensive because we were going on a holiday to a restaurant that we were not familiar with. Some of the restaurant staff/waiters in the iron bound section of Newark can be rude. The waiters at Adega were SUPER and assisted my family and I in anyway possible. The portions were huge, especially the steak and flounder. I honestly had found left over for days!! The menu was easy to read and the low lighting in the place made for a relaxed atmosphere. The music was low and beautiful. The decor added great character to the place and was very romantic in the shades of burgundy and gold. The sangria was excellent and I recommend everyone to visit this place with your families. OUTSTANDING there is not much more to say but here we go. For starters we had the steamed Octopus mmm then the garlic shrimp crunchy and tasteful. Then came the grilled King crab legs WTF so tasty. When the rest of the party arrived extra people showed up and when we asked to be moved to a table that could seat everyone comfortably they told us no. We then asked for an extra chair and place settings and the waiter told us he had to ask the manager. We took it upon ourselves to simply grab one of the many empty seats and utensils from an empty table and set up for ourselves. The late comers were rushed to order. Food is really amazing! Cool atmosphere at the bar and more quiet and fancy at the restaurant. I had a shrimp plate first time, then came back at lunch and had the best alaskan king crab legs ever for appetizer followed by tasty pork chop. My cousin and I dined here the other night & I should've known the night would not go well when the cook messed up my appetizer, which was shrimp cocktail. How can you mess up shrimp cocktail??? The shrimp were VERY rubbery & chewy...simply overdone. So the guy who seated us (possibly the manager) asked were we enjoying so far & I reluctantly said no. His facial expression immediately changed as if he had an attitude, which was kind of crazy because less than ten minutes prior he was flirting and hugging me and labeling me his "next ex-wife," LOL! Anyway, he returned the shrimp cocktail and brought out another order, but this one I could barely bite through as it was UNDER cooked. I'm thinking how difficult can this be? So I just said forget it. We proceeded to order our entree dishes. BIG mistake. I ordered the paelha and my cousin ordered the steak. The lobster and shrimp were COMPLETELY overcooked! Tasted more like imitation crab, which I cannot stand. The only thing ccooked properly were the scallops. My cousin's steak was also not good lacking flavor and the mushroom topping that was supposed to be stuffed with crab was loaded with mushy breadcrumbs. We then ordered dessert to try to turn our experience around, but the creme brûlée and tres leches were underwhelming. They were just ok. Didn't blow us away at all. Needless to say, within an hour of leaving, both of us were glued to the toilet with bouts of diarrhea! The food was NOT fresh! I've only been to the bar area and I come here about once a month. Food is really tasty! Service is ok, but my male friends love this place...I'm sure it has to do with the really attractive female bartenders that look like they came straight from Brazil or somewhere like that. If you have a jealous girlfriend stay away. These bartenders do flirt. Had New Years Eve Dinner with my family here. Been trying to come for dinner here for some time and glad I did although we all thought it was a bit pricey.To start we had the chouriço Português Assado and Portobelos Recheados(stuffed mushrooms was the best I ever had) very very good. The Sangria was excellent.I had the grilled Chilean Sea Bass which was cooked perfect. And for dessert a lemon sorbet with limoncello which by the way was very refreshing after a big dinner. The portions are huge! My only tiff is that they serve the main course in these very very very large square plates ( looks more like serving trays) that take up too much room on the tables. If you decide to come for dinner here you better come really hungry or you'll be taking most of the food home. Defiantly coming back for the mushrooms again. read more

This has to be one of, if not the most underrated restaurant in the Ironbound. Just for the simple fact that its's known for it's lounge scene. People think that its only there because of the nightclub and their cuisine can't be worth trying.... BIG MISTAKE. I have to admit I was one of those people a little over a year ago, but now I would never say no to Adega. Food is great. The portions might not be as huge as you would expect out of an Ironbound restaurant but that's because here, quality is more important than quantity. We were 30 minutes late to our reservation and they seated us anyway!! They were so kind and we were so grateful! We loved the ambiance, really perfect for a family dinner right before the Paul Simon concert at the Prudential Center. The service was very good, constantly attentive, and gave great suggestions. We especially enjoyed the very fresh and delicious sangria, in addition to the Paelha Valenciana and the Peito de Frango a San Jacob and highly recommend them all! Portions are huge, the paella alone fed my father at the restaurant, and then the leftovers fully fed 2 more people the next day!! So we came to what they go for my parents anniversary. We had a reservations and we receded on time. They were very patient. We ordered two starters/appetizers shrimp and garlic and the Portuguese chorizo. The shrimp and garlic was very good. And the chorizo as well as per my parents they said it was very flavorful. I ordered the skirt steak stuffed salmon regular grilled salmon and a T-bone steak. Everything was cooked perfectly the steak was nice and juicy and the salmon that salmon was perfect. The sides were also Perfect the mashed potatoes were ridiculously good. The sangria was amazing. They gave complimentary bread with butter which is very good. This is a really great option to try on Ferry / Market Street (Ironbound area). We came on a Saturday night and had the Parilhada. Very good quality ( My wife was hoping it to be a bit "less" cooked...she felt it was a bit tough...but I'd rather longer than shorter on the raw shellfish). All in all an excellent quantity and quality. I'd go here again in a heartbeat. If I had a complaint is was our location of seating. DO NOT sit in the father part of the restaurant. It's too busy and to loud. Not romantic or pleasant. Also....the wait staff is EXTREMELY efficient and bustling....just...not very happy. That sounds like an odd request I guess....but who wants to eat where no one is smiling? Again....I guess you are paying for the service of someone to wait on you in an impeccable way. This review is strictly for the bar during lunch hours. I used to frequent this place for lunch when I worked in Newark. It is located on busy Ferry Street, so parking can be a little difficult. THERE IS A PARKING GARAGE for this place on Madison Street between Lafayette and Ferry. They usually give you a ticket to stamp at the bar and I usually tip the guy at the garage a couple bucks. The bar is modern and has about 5 TVs. It has a slightly more upscale feel than most bars in the Ironbound and it is also very long and narrow. So, if you don't see a seat near the entrance, keep walking. Also, most if not all of the bartenders are younger women, so it brings in a predominantly male crowd. I think I've only seen one woman at the bar ever (again I'm talking about lunch time). I think the food is slightly above average (maybe 3.5?). I usually get a chicken or pork sandwich. The meat is pounded very thin and is simply seasoned with salt and pepper. If you are looking to order the same, make sure you tell them everything that you want on the sandwich. There isn't a default like lettuce, tomato and onion. I also enjoy the BBQ chicken which is a whole rotisserie chicken that is very crispy and is seasoned very well. You can also choose any side with your meals such as yellow rice, fries or a salad. My coworkers have order more extravagant meals at the bar and each meal had a good presentation and I was told that the meals were tasty. If you are looking for a bar to hit during the work week to get food and drinks, try this place with your coworkers. read more

Wow. I just had quite an impressive experience here. Everything was perfect and I can't imagine needing anything to make it better. Our server was very pleasant, attentive, and professional. The sangria was a perfect balance of fruit and wine flavor. The skirt steak was absolutely magnificent!! By far the best I've ever had in comparison to home cooked Hispanic, upscale Portuguese, Spanish or south American restaurants. It was so succulent and juicy. The fat melted in my mouth. I've experienced many of a dry and grizzled skirt steak but this was none of that. It was incredible. So flavorful and juicy!!! And huge!!! The homemade potato chips were a treat as well. Lastly, the flan and espesso really tied up the evening. The flan texture was perfection. Buoyant and also succulent. Perfect sweetness. Can't wait to go back. Lastly, the ambiance, was terrific.
