We thought we were in trouble when kitchen was closed at the pub recommended by our hotel. Not so fast, Ada's was hopping busy and the kitchen still open. We had a bit of a wait, but the host was nice and we were in a pinch. Fast forward to the food since we decided to skip drinks. Hubby got the chicken parmesan sub. The homemade roll was overflowing with chicken, and he said it was delicious. I got the Margherita pizza. Oh my. The crust and sauce were fantastic; mozzarella cheese and basil - just right. Moving to a new town requires a few essential pieces of knowledge to make it feel like home. Things like where to put out the trash, a good local florist and a friendly weeknight bar. Ada's satisfies the latter in spades. A busy and convivial dining room is flanked by a long, well-tended bar stocked with interesting local beers, wines by the glass (and on a great bottle list) and excellent cocktails. Small plates, fantastic salads (the little gem and peach and tomato burrata Caprese are wonderful) make great starters. This place was a great experience. Was recommended by a local friend and it did not disappoint. Actually ended up going here two nights in a row. I tried four different types of pizza and they were all delicious, i also tried their spinach ravioli which did not disappoint. Egg plant parm was also good. Great all around place to eat, and actually the only one open the night we went to town to eat. Locals seem to visit this place frequently from the way the bartender met them and talked with them. We went there tonight for dinner. we sat at the bar and ordered Ada's pizza, which was crunchy and amazing, the olive starter was delicious. The ambience was great and our Italian bartender (sorry, forget his name) was such a great guy, we thoroughly enjoyed talking to him. Service: The service was alright. Not exceptional, but that may be because of how busy the place was on a Saturday evening. But overall they served us. However, when paying the bill there was a little pressure. Mainly when tipping. The waiter is standing right there when you pay and so they see how you tip and what not. Food: we got 4 dishes of pasta and a pizza. The food was good, nothing extraordinary. The pasta itself was a little undercooked and kinda doughy. I'm not a pasta expert myself but I do compare the quality of pasta and prices with THE OG Olive Garden. Compared to OG the pasta wasn't as soft and creamy? Or atleast it tasted homemade. I do not recommend getting the Pesto as it's flavor was a little on the heathy side - definitely needs more fat or olive oil or something. However, the pizza was gonna be a pizza - good as a pizza is gonna be. Now the prices were a bit on the high side when compared with a basic $15 plate it was around $20-30 considering the homemade-iness of the food. Overall it was a bit better than ok. Atmosphere: the environment was a bit crowded and loud. But maybe because that was on a Saturday night with a bunch of bar goers and dates and what not. Definitely not many sub 18 year olds. A little bit on the loud side so all you can really do is chat with family while the food is coming - music is muted. read more

My only negative comment would be the pasta was slightly undercooked, not al dente just plain undercooked. Stacy is who you need to know as she's a brilliant bartender and makes a lovely gin martini. Get a friend to join you and split some meatballs with your drinks while you wait for a calzone. These numbers are HUGE so even as we shared, we had leftovers. I asked Tracy what to do and got a "bianco" with a couple of zhuzhes--mushrooms and gorgonzola--and then a side of the marinara and some of Ada's stunning olive oil. What one does is combine the olive oil with the marinara and if you're me, add chili flakes. Then one dips pieces of one's calzone into that magic. The house made pickles are a great appetizer and we all ordered some pasta except my husband who ordered a build your own calzone. I had the Caprese salad starter, with perfectly ripe heirloom tomatoes and house-made mozzarella topped with delicious balsamic and a drizzle of pesto. My partner had the simple green salad, with a light and flavorful dressing. For main courses, I had the chicken parmesan over the optional spaghetti. The chicken was super tender, the pasta yummy and al dente, and the sauce/cheese topping was excellent. My partner had the Roman Short Rib Cacciatore, which was outstanding. For dessert, we shared the Tiramisu, which was a creamy delight. A highlight of the evening was our waiter, Tucker, who was attentive but not rushing, while always friendly and funny. Hubs LOVED his garden salad- it's all in the dressing (I believe the server said it was a type of raspberry vinaigrette, altho u can't taste the raspberry- but it was yummy sweet). My broccolini was AMAZING- roasted in butter and cooked to perfection. Hubs enjoyed his meatballs on homemade bread. He said it was the perfect size as to not over-eat. Made a reservation online yesterday for 5:30 seating tonight. Got there a little early and was told our table was ready, then we were brought downstairs to the "Bistro". We were the only ones there and were disappointed as upstairs was visually appealing and lively. Waitress came over with the meal and drink menus and asked what we wanted to drink. We told her we needed a minute....and she disappeared..never to return. My husband went upstairs and asked to be seated on the main floor after explaining what happened. Staff quickly apologized and compt our drinks. The food was excellent, my blueberry cosmo was spot on. Shrimp scampi and carbonara (made the correct way without heavy cream) was fantastic. Blueberry panacotta and chocolate truffles for desert was divine. Glad we stayed. read more

When we are vacation and go to a place twice we either really liked it or did not have an option. In this case it was the former, we really enjoyed Ada's! We went the first time when we first came into town and picked it as we were in the mood for Italian. We started with their charcuterie board and it was great, 3 meats and 3 cheeses accompanied with a orange flavored honey which was great on the cheese, giardiniera and a couple of toast points. The quality of the meats and cheese were excellent. I don't understand why the board come with the two thumb sized pieces of bread, though. I also ordered a flight of beers which were of good quality. We then shared half of a sausage and mushroom pizza that was very good. The crust was delicious and ingredients fresh and of high quality. We ordered the large for $7 more and took the rest of the pizza home or lunch the next day. Our next visit was not planned but fortuitous as we were running late coming back from a day trip and it was getting close to 8 PM and places were closing. Ada's was open till midnight and great option! We had pasta this time. I had the oxtail pasta special which was so good, I asked for bread to sop up the sauce. My wife had a veggie pasta in a mushroom sauce that was also excellent. We had to try dessert as they had a honey and walnut panacotta that my wife just loves to order when she sees one. It was very good as well. Food 4.5 Stars - Good fresh food well prepared. Service - 4 Stars - Attentive and knowledgeable, but had one issue with handoff from hostess to server that was quickly fixed. Atmosphere- 5 Stars - Great play for nice dinner out, date night or better than average meal out. Well appointed but comfortable. Price - 4.5 Stars - Good value and some meals for what is offered very reasonable. OA - 4.5 - I would put this place on my list and be back! read more

Delicious food! Homemade pasta dish was generously portioned. Meatball sub was stuffed with three, jumbo meatballs. Eggplant parm was two small stacked slices, which were wonderfully portioned with cheese and eggplant. Ambiance is lovely with gentle lighting and spaced out layout. Problems: everything is overpriced and all ala carte. No pasta sides included with eggplant, which is $23! No bread, except $11 bread appetizer. No salad options, except $9 house salad. Yikes! Incredible food and great service. Didn't really have any expectations when we chose this place to eat dinner, but the food was perfect. One of the things that's big here is that almost everything is made in-house, and you can definitely taste the difference. I've had my fair share of great Italian food in NYC, but this place is really good and warrants a visit. 1) Homemade focaccia - great rosemary and salt levels. So soft! 2) The waitress recommended that they could make me a seltzer with homemade fruit purees they had - I chose strawberry and it definitely didn't disappoint. 3) Spaghetti carbonara - wowow everything about this dish was perfect: the creaminess of the sauce, the salt levels, the flavor of the guanciale, the pepper levels, the homemade pasta - every single bite was just perfection. 4) Funghi sausage pizza - also incredible, you can taste that the pizza dough is homemade by the airy texture of the crust. Also sausage is made in-house and has the perfect proportion between fat and meat for a great texture. Also flavor was enough to taste but didn't overpower the mushrooms. Wanted to order the Tiramisu, but was way too full. All in all, a incredible meal from a restaurant that does simple food really well by focusing on important details. Highly recommend!! My wife and I are vacationing in Rockland and decided to give Ada's Kitchen a shot given the high praise we've heard for their pastas. After dining there, I can honestly say the pasta is fantastic. Unfortunately, my praise for Ada's Kitchen ends there. After waiting close to 45 minutes for our appetizer (which they claimed went to another table), we endured a comedy of errors that included a taste of their finest vinegared wine (which we sent back), a forgotten beer (one of many mishaps by our nice but absent-minded waitress who used her hurried charm to excuse her every mistake), incredibly late entrees with forgotten parmesan included, and lastly, and most egregiously, a $46 bottle of red wine, Clay Shannon Cabernet Sauvignon, that was $50 by the time it made our bill. After bringing this up to the waitress, she claimed the bar said that their menus were simply out of date, and that was the correct price. OUT OF DATE? So let me get this straight, everyone that ordered THAT bottle last night got a $4 extra charge, and Ada's staff simply went around to each table using that rationale? Had I been an absolute terror to our waitress, I would at least understand her reticence to indulge me a single dollar in this situation, but we were saints considering our sub-par experience, and I expected some level of karmic justice, even if it would have meant a heartfelt apology for the dumpster fire that was good service at Ada's Kitchen.
