Accuspa is a hidden gem in Pasadena owned and operated by power couple Alice and Kevin! After having an L5-S1 discectomy, I was introduced to Accuspa through the 'Accusage' treatment. The 90 minute session includes acupuncture around my lower back, as well on hands and shoulders. While the needles are in, a deep tissue massage ensues, in my case focused on my full left leg and lower back. Kevin is crazy knowledgeable on pressure points, and conducts the deep tissue massage while some needles are still in place. Post surgery I went in for one session about every 2 to 3 weeks for a year and am convinced this commitment fast-tracked my recovery. I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was upsetting enough that I feel obligated to share it. I came in for lymphatic drainage while recovering from multiple back surgeries and after an eight-year health journey that I finally feel I am at the end of. I explained this to Kevin at the beginning of the appointment and told him that I finally felt like I was beginning to heal. His response was simply, "(hopefully)." That set the tone for the entire appointment. Instead of feeling supported, I felt judged and interrogated. Kevin quizzed me extensively about my lab work and health history and repeatedly questioned the supplements prescribed by my naturopathic doctor, calling them "trendy" and asking if social media was influencing me. Quite frankly, I found that appalling and incredibly unprofessional. I have spent years educating myself and am under the care of practitioners I trust. I did not come in looking to defend my health choices. What bothered me most was the speculative health advice. At one point, Kevin palpated my abdomen and suggested I may have fatty liver. I found that extremely speculative and inappropriate. I came in for lymphatic drainage, not to be given unsolicited opinions about my health or to have my medical history debated. Kevin didn't even ask where my recent surgery was, or to point it out. I had three in the same area in under two years. At one point, I had to ask him to relieve some of the pressure as it was hurting greatly given my five back surgeries but most recent one involving soft tissues. That area is extremely sensitized. I would think more care would have went into my treatment. I greatly flared for days afterward. Within minutes, my nervous system was on high alert. I wanted to leave almost immediately but kept hoping the appointment would improve. It didn't. By the time it was over, I was overwhelmed and just wanted to get out of there. I didn't say anything at the front desk because three women were walking in for appointments, and I didn't want to ruin their experience or have a confrontation. I later reached out privately and explained everything in detail. To Alice's credit, she did issue a full refund. However, what I found equally disappointing was how the situation was handled afterward. There was no apology, no acknowledgment of how uncomfortable I felt, and no empathy or compassion shown, even after I explained my experience in detail and later pointed this out directly. How do you not sincerely apologize to any client who left extremely uncomfortable and more traumatized? ....I left there nauseated from the experience with Kevin. I wasn't planning on writing a review. However, the way Alice handled the closing of this matter--the absence of empathy, compassion, or even a simple apology--left me feeling compelled to share my experience. There are so many talented lymphatic therapists out there. Healing requires trust, compassion, and feeling safe with the person treating you. I have no doubt that most people can find a much more calming, supportive, and empathetic experience elsewhere. Do not waste your time or money here. read more

To say I was disappointed in my experience at AcuSpa is an understatement. I will start by saying Zanett at the front desk was wonderful and very kind during my visit. Unfortunately, she was really the only good part of my visit. Since I was a new client, I arrived about 10 minutes before my appointment time in case I needed to fill out any paperwork. However, the same respect of my time was not reciprocated. I waited over 20 minutes past my appointment time before I was taken back to a room. I understand things like this happen, but there was no apology or even an acknowledgement that I had to wait that long, which is very unprofessional. I wish I could say that things turned around from here, but the appointment only got worse. I came in for what should have been a straightforward post-procedure MLD massage of a single area. I have a lot of past experience getting MLD done, and I have been lucky enough to work with one of the most talented and experienced Medical massage therapists in the area who has shared a wealth of knowledge with me. I decided to give AcuSpa a try for a MLD session because they also offer Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (non-medical grade). There is not much to say about the Hyperbaric treatment I received. As mentioned above, it is not medical grade, so I am not sure if I really gleamed any benefit from it, but it was fine. If you want to have a mask in the chamber, be prepared to pay $5 additional. As it pertains to the MLD, my session with Kevin was EXTREMELY uncomfortable. I once again came in for post-procedure MLD session, but Kevin used this time to ask very invasive questions about my health and family that had nothing to do with why I was there and gave mass amounts of unsolicited advice. He also made very insensitive and inappropriate comments about my parents, one of which is recently deceased. I did not come in for a holistic health consult or for advice on other health conditions or other parts of my body. It was completely inappropriate. The MLD itself was also done with way too much pressure, and it did not produce the results I know to expect. I came in for MLD of the face and neck and the session was not even focused on this. This experience was really gross and upsetting, and I would never recommend AcuSpa because of my experience with Kevin. read more

Just finished my 4th lymphatic drainage massage with Jamie. My first massage was 3 years ago and the last 3, in the last week. I cannot put into words how great these are for me, mind, body and soul. I loved this place! The deals that they give are great as well, and the masseuse gives a lot of insight on how to take care of one's overall health. This was the first time getting a massage. The first time I went, I was feeling super swollen, especially in my arms and upper back, where I tend to carry most of my weight. The reason for the poor rating is from my most recent trip and only my recent trip! This place is incredible because of KEVIN! I ADORE KEVIN! HE IS THE BEST IN THE INDUSTRY!!! I will never go to anyone else besides KEVIN ever again! Unfortunately, Kevin was unavailable, so I went with someone else..... HUGE MISTAKE! I figured everyone here must be as great as Kevin so when I wanted to book a time that Kevin wasn't working I thought it wouldn't be a big deal.....WRONG. I came in for my usual lymphatic drainage massage and was greeted kindly by a gentleman who was very nice. Unfortunately his massages was terrible .....I mean like reeeeeally bad. 1.) He didn't use any oil or creme so his hands would tug at my skin and hurt like hell. Dry burn. It was 30minutes of continuous skin friction that did nothing but make me swell as opposed to drain. 2.) Zero pressure..... very unpleasant skin rubbing but no real pressure on any of the parts that needed draining. 3.) He massaged my feet and head a lot, and randomly pulled my ears a few times which hurt like hell and gave me a migraine for the rest of the day. How is that a lymphatic massage?...What is happening? 4.) My skin hurt a ton after the massage due to all the skin drag & pulling and to make matters worse I went home and was super swollen...this has never happened before. I was in pain the whole day. OVERALL: I have been getting lymphatic drainage massages here for just under 10 sessions and Kevin is INCREDIBLE! After each massage I feel thinner and healthier than I have ever been! He is so kind and knowledgeable!!! I can't recommend him enough. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND KEVIN!!! Cannot begin to express my gratitude to Kevin, Alice, Pili and the AcuSpa gang! Obviously they're the real deal when it comes to massage therapy yet I'm going to focus my review more on the health and wellness aspect as I was in a REAL bad place when I came in. I had a rough abdominal surgery 5 years ago and developed a recurring case of SIBO as a result (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth). I had been to every GI doc under the sun then turned to a functional medicine doctor that made me feel 10x worse than at any point within those 5 years. I wound up losing 15 pounds in a few weeks and literally couldn't eat or even drink water without feeling miserable. It was recommended I get a Lymphatic Drainage massage when I found AcuSpa and that's when EVERYTHING started to turn around for the better. Kevin asked me a lot of questions as if he had a 6th sense- he then told me he could help get me back on track in which I gladly accepted his offer. So I went to try another spa for my monthly massages and found AcuSpa. I am so glad that I did because it was the best massage that I've had in 20 years. The only other time I got a massage that good was in Palm Springs. The masseuse, James is the best. He used medium pressure to massage the negative, toxic energy out of my body. I also think he's kind of psychic because he said that the negative energy wasn't me or my students but someone else lol. He used scents and lotions and gave me a parafin wax job then scrubbed my feet. He also massaged my scalp, neck, end everything else.
