This community style acupuncture is a fantastic idea! There are four comfortable chairs and a calming environment to have your acupuncture treatment. The pretreatment consults are in private, so just the treatments are community-style. So to me it's the best of both worlds! Jess listens to what my issues are, and will plan a treatment plan for the long and short term issues. The price doesn't get better than this either - they're really trying to make acupunture affordable for all - so it allows everyone to try it a few times, or receive consistent treatments. I think it's great that the motives of the practitioners are truly based in making acupuncture affordable and available for all. Their on-line booking system couldn't be easier to look for availability and book/cancel appointments. You could pay a lot more for a private setting, but I actually feel better about supporting professionals who are reaching out to the community who need acupuncture. It's a cozy atmosphere for sure, enhanced by the community spirit of healing brought by each client and the acupuncturist. Jess is calm, sensitive, knowledgeable and professional - great. Very down-to-earth and understanding, will make you feel at ease. I've had successful results for my allergies, headache and exhaustion. I visited Acupuncture For Everyone in Boston three times and met with Anne each time. The first appointment went well, and she took her time getting all my information and figuring out a plan. This was my first time receiving acupuncture and I was mainly looking for relief from my headaches and upper back and neck pain. The first visit went great, there was one needle that stuck into a sensitive spot in my hand and when I told Anne she said no problem and quickly took it out. The second visit went well as well. From the first two visits I noticed some improvements in my symptoms but by the end of the week I was back to where I was. In my mind that was fine though since I know it can take awhile for it to build up and I was thankful for the relief I was getting anyway. My third visit however left me in a LOT of pain. Anne had put a needle in the right side of my head slightly before the temples. While she was putting in some of the other needles the needle in my head started to hurt. l told her that it was bothering me and so she twisted it around a bit and asked if it felt any better. The twisting made the area feel like it was BURNING in my head. I told her no and asked if she could take it out. Anne said if we could just wait a minute and see if it feels better. I said okay, and the burning did go away but it still didn't feel quite right. I should have just told her to take it out altogether, but she seemed like she really wanted to keep it in so I trusted her. I laid there for about a half hour and the burning and pain in my head came back and got worse. It actually felt like with every inhale it was scraping my scull and getting more painful. The setup of this place it a bit awkward in that you are in a room (potentially with out patients, but I was an early morning appointment and was in there alone), Anne goes into the other room and shuts the door. Essentially, I just had to lay there with this needle getting more and more painful (I considered just pulling it out myself, but I had about 4-5 other needles in each of my hands and didn't want to disturb them or end up in more pain). As a result of this treatment, I had a terrible headache for two days where I couldn't even keep my right open (the side where the needle had been). It wasn't like a headache I had ever experienced before. I haven't been back since and I think that experience has put me off trying acupuncture again. It's such a shame since my first two visits were great and I found the setup quite relaxing. read more

This place is almost too good to be true, but it is! I went initially for recurring muscle spasms in my back. About 90 seconds after Jess set the needles during my first session I literally felt my entire back release. I've been back weekly since even thought my back continues to behave (or maybe it's continues to behave because I keep going back). Nonetheless I have begun to understand the many ways the acupuncture is helping me. Today I went in a complete stress ball and I walked out wondering why I was so stressed before. On top of all that, the sliding scale rates are very affordable. This place is great - I've been going here for at least 2 years now (if not more) and, while I rarely post reviews, I can't recommend this place or its practitioners enough. On and off, I've done acupuncture with Anne and have done herbal teas with Midgie. I've sent co-workers there for anxiety and relatives with more physical ailments. Everyone raves. Give it a shot. So, this is my first acupuncture experience. I am a bit on the squeamish side and don't usually volunteer to allow myself to be skewered. I had always been curious, and with a fair amount of chronic neck and shoulder pain and a recommendation from a dear friend, I decided it was time to take the plunge. I have to say, the idea of a place that could offer treatment on a sliding scale was appealing and indicated practitioners looking to make their services accessible to a wider community. Major win. This is no frills, mind you- if you are looking for a private room with all the bells and whistles, you can pay 4X more and go to a spa. The treatment room has 4 comfy old easy chairs, is cozy with soothing music and a sound machine. My therapist, Anne is likely one of the most genuinely warm people I have encountered. Precisely the kind of reception a needle phobe is looking for. She never rushes you, always calm and reassuring. At treatment end she always adds in a hug for good measure. I have seen Anne, Midgie, and Joyce, and they are all excellent practitioners: easy to talk to, good communicators, very skilled with acupuncture, provide effective treatments, all that good stuff. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing. You can often schedule an appointment at the last minute, the location is convenient, and the price is affordable. Basically I don't see how it could get any better. Since lots of reviewers have discussed the acupuncture aspect, I'll mention that I've also seen Midgie for herbs. This is a more involved process where you have to get a diagnosis, then go back later to get the herbs because they are from an outside dispensary. I appreciated the time Midgie took to find a formula that worked for me, her communication during the entire process, and that she uses powder herbs (which are reputedly more effective than pills). read more

I am beyond grateful for the existence of AFE and I tell everyone that I know about it, including my primary care doctor who recommends it to other patients. It is the most cost effective way to get acupuncture and trust me when I tell you that the effectiveness of the treatment is not diminished at all by the group setting. All of the acupuncturists that I have seen there (Anne, Midgie, Ren) are exceedingly excellent - you absolutely cannot go wrong. This year, I have been seeing Michelle for acupuncture services and she has been a miracle worker for me. I had been going to acupuncture for 7 years prior to seeing her and although acupuncture always did a great job at providing short term benefit for my anxiety, Michelle utilized new points that I had never experienced, which finally started providing longer lasting benefit beyond a day or two. Her nature is super compassionate and caring and I feel very comfortable discussing with her any kind of mental or physical ailments that I am experiencing. During my treatment, I slip into the most incredible relaxation "trance" that I have ever felt in my life, which happens with all the practitioners that I have seen there. Michelle and I recently started working on fertility, which has been an ongoing struggle for me. However, I feel fully supported by Michelle as well as confident that her skills will help give my body what it needs in order to prepare it for a healthy pregnancy. reasons why it's awesome: 1. affordable- recent grads we can finally afford wellness, isn't that great? 2. you can schedule appointments online-phoneaphobics, FEAR NOT! 3. real experience- relaxing but a no-frills experience. you don't even get undressed. 4. great practitioners-well I've only seen Shaun, but he's wonderful. Very kind and eager to answer questions, and make sure you're comfortable. Tip well if you can. These guys don't charge much and they're obviously not doing it for the money but because they enjoy healing others, and that deserves to be acknowledged. 5. you will notice results- I felt sensations in my feet after that I didn't even know I wasn't experiencing previously. It's amazing how much tension we hold in our body and where. It can be so toxic, and to have that released is truly a wonderful experience.
