I started coming here in April 2023. I had a whole list of issues going on, namely really painful and debilitating periods that were irregular. I had been on birth control for years, and when I got off of it, my periods became very painful, to the point of needing to miss school and work. I relied heavily on ibuprofen on days 1 and 2 of the periods. For two years, I thought this was just my new normal. But after coming here once a month for a few months, my periods have completely normalized again. No more pain and now my cycles are regular to a T! Too many wonderful things to say about this place. If I could, I'd give this place 10 stars. This office is family ran by Bell and Yvonne with David assisting. The father and mother is retired but they are there on the weekends to continue helping and healing people with more serious conditions. They are really kind and caring people looking to help in anyway possible and go way over the top compared to any other place I have visited. I came here with a herniated disc/pinched nerve and several other problems that I was diagnosed via MRI by the doctors and gone through several procedures (2 steroid injections and 4 months of physical therapy). But after a year of trying the procedures referred the doctors, they said it was "fixed" but I was still feeling the same. After a couple acupuncture appointments it got me feeling so much better, something the steroid injections nor 4 months of physical therapy could do. They focus on the spine and a session involves acupuncture (around 25-30 minutes) and a massage (around 10-15 minutes). So be ready to put aside about an hourish for an appointment. They are truly miracle workers and they really do care. I have also heard several stories of them being able to deal with way more serious conditions (cancer, tumors, disorders). If you feel like you are at a dead end, don't hesitate to try this place, I promise you won't regret it. I highly recommend this place and not enough words would do this place justice. read more

These people are truly amazing. I have many different health issues and I've seen doctor after doctor after doctor. I've spent thousands on holistic doctors and I've never gotten great results. Unique healing approach. This isn't Five Elements, Traditional Chinese Medicine or Classical Chinese Medicine that you get in most places. This is a maverick approach to healing that combines Western scientific anatomy/physiology with Eastern acupuncture/some theory. You won't get tongue and pulse here. You will get a lot of muscle tension to find physical blockages keeping blood from flowing to your brain. You will find interesting devices created by the Tam family that truly do work. Great clinic for pain relief. I went for a pinched nerve in my neck that was bothering me for two straight weeks where I tried a neck brace, advil, muscle relaxants (Flexerol) and even Percocet but nothing was helping and I was in pain. My neck, back of head and temples ached a dull pain with an occasional shooting pain in my neck if I tried to turn my head more than about 15 degrees. After 1 treatment of acupuncture with Yvonne and deep muscle massage with a male therapist, the pain was about 90% gone. Amazing. Then I went back one week later for a second treatment and so far the pain is pretty much gone (maybe about 5% of what it was before my treatments). I also brought my wife in for a problem with her wrist (she works with her hands in a medical field) and after one treatment her wrist is feeling 100% better. This was a problem that she had for about a month, so having such relief in one session was impressive. I plan to keep using this clinic for other health-related issues. I signed up for a Yelp account for the sole reason of reviewing Lea Tam Acupuncture. Background: This year, a dear loved one of mine was diagnosed with a life long mental illness, Paranoid Schizophrenia. He would go through episodes of frightening psychoses that made him believe that the delusions happening in his mind was in fact a reality. You cannot reason with someone who is suffering from PS, because what we see as delusions, they actually see as facts. Watch "A Beautiful Mind" and "Donnie Darko" to get an idea of what PS sufferers go through. After much cajoling and threats of having him committed (yes, it was that serious), we encouraged him to seek professional help. He ended up seeing 3 top doctors in Boston for therapy and psychiatric evaluations. He was prescribed 6 kinds of powerful medications to manage his psychoses and severe anxiety. At first, it seemed as if he was getting better. He seemed to be responding to medication and he was able to hold a decent conversation with people. Within a week, he went through another psychotic episode, which was more violent than ever. All 3 of his doctors only said to keep with the meds, continue his therapy and to keep him in low-stress environments, despite us telling him that his psychotic episodes were getting out of hand. We all constantly lived in a state of walking on eggshells. We just didn't know when his episode would strike again. Over a month later, he turned into a human zombie. He no longer showed any emotions. He would do exactly what we told him to do. He would eat his meals like a mechanical robot, despite us cooking his favorite dishes. Gone was the life and fire in his eyes. He walked around the house with dead eyes. We were able to manage his PS, but we lost the vibrant person he once was. You would think, "Okay, but having a loved one acting like a human zombie is 100x better than having him go through violent, psychotic fits again." But he still went through his psychotic episodes! They just didn't happen as frequently. At this point, we were desperate. We lived in a constant state of fear. We didn't know if the next time he would experience an episode, if he would have to be committed. We did everything that the professionals told us to do! What were we doing wrong? So Google it was. I read numerous of articles about acupuncture and how it can drastically relieve the symptoms of PS. I thought, what can we lose at this point? It didn't take long to persuade him to go in for acupuncture treatments. At this point in his illness, he was so malleable. He nodded his head along to everything we said, like a little child. I did more research and decided that Lea Tam would be most suitable for him after reading numerous of reviews and articles online praising this family-run business. Also, I just want to note that an appointment with them costs significantly less than a session to one of his doctors (about $100 for acupuncture). When we went in for his first appt, I will admit that I had low expectations. I thought that if it did indeed work, then it would probably take months if not years for us to start seeing results.We all noticed a difference in him immediately after his first appt. He was still quiet, but he just seemed looser, and less tight. When once he was rigid, now he seemed more open and warm. In the car ride home, we even saw him crack a subtle smile, a rarity with him. We decided for him to schedule 3 acupuncture appts a week. He would go early in the morning (7am) so he can get to work immediately after. They were very flexible with his schedule, and for that, we were all grateful. Over 15 acupuncture sessions later, we've seen a HUGE improvement. He's almost done a complete 180. His smiles, although rare, are a sight to behold. His laughter, which I barely recall, is now ingrained in my mind. He has opinions on things now, which we all love. Even if he says something not so nice, "Why is our cat so fat now?" we can't help but jump with joy because we know that his fire is back! Is he cured? No, not at all. Schizophrenia is lifelong. However, he has not gone through a single psychotic episode in a month. That is a huge milestone for him. He might not be the original person he once was, but he's pretty darn close to it. Just a quick FYI, he still does 3 acupuncture treatments a week. He's now down to only 3 meds. He only sees 2 of his doctors now once every 2 weeks (before it was 2x a week). Even his doctors have noticed a clear improvement in him. Lea Tam Acupuncture - we don't know how we can thank you. You have changed his life and the lives of his loved ones. My mom and I traveled to Boston from Chicago specifically to get treated with Tong Ren therapy and acupuncture by the Tam family. My mom has Stage 4 stomach cancer, and has been off of chemo for nearly 6 months. She was suffering from some pretty severe pain that other natural methods (juicing, essential oils, vegan diet, etc) were not helping to alleviate. We are truly grateful that God allowed my mom to meet a very kind lady in the Chicagoland area who introduced her to Tong Ren, and suggested that we travel to Boston to see Tom and his family for healing. During our 5 day visit, the Tam family removed my mom's pain completely (it has been almost a month since our visit, and the pain has not returned), gave us hope for healing (that Western doctors completely ruled out), and continues to give us tips, guidance and encouragement from afar, as we are back in Chicago now. The Tam family is extremely unique not only because their methods have helped individuals that Western doctors have written off as incurable, but because their purpose in treating others stems from a genuine desire to aid people back to health. During our session with Bell, he did not just treat us and go about his day, but he took the time to explain the logic behind the treatment, and gave me hands on instructions on how to treat my mother once we got back home to Chicago. Any other acupuncturist or massage therapist would insist that we come back for a paid session, and would not have revealed any tips or methods to help patients feel better. We were blown away - this is just one instance of many where we knew and felt that this family really wanted my mother to get better, not for their sake, but for hers and my family's. I will admit that when my mother first explained this therapy to me, it sounded kind of crazy-town, but after experiencing it for myself, hearing the science and explanation behind the therapy from Bell and Tom (both of whom are extremely knowledgeable, patient and generous with sharing this information), and speaking face-to-face with numerous patients whose lives have changed because of the Tam family's methods, I have no doubts about the effectiveness of this treatment. Great Acupuncture Center! I have been to several places in Boston as I have back issues and nothing else seems to work. I am not a huge fan of the communal acupuncture set up so I was excited to find this place which has private rooms. It is located in the Leather District/Edge of Chinatown in a building with several offices, medical providers in it. The office is very clean and when I walked in (at 8:30a) there was already a family there for treatment as well. It was packed by 9:30a. The business is family run and everyone is very friendly. They were very professional but does not have a spa like environment (but very clean and simple). He told me what the cause of my issue was and then treated me - after, he gave me a very strong massage (so if you are sensitive you should speak up) My back issues were gone when I walked out the door! Bell is fantastic! Some places go overboard with 1.5 to 2 hour treatments, but this is a nice 30-40 minute treatment that always ends with a strong tissue massage. The Tom Tam device that is unique to their practice is interesting and seems to help the treatments. If you are having issues that western medicine isn't helping you with, I definitely recommend you give this place a try. I highly recommend trying acupuncture with Bell. I was suffering from a persistent muscle strain and decided to try acupuncture to help alleviate the pain.
