I had never considered acupuncture until Spring 2004, when I experienced a "neurological event" out of the blue that was--at the time--almost completely disabling. I could not use my hands without terrible pain, and felt like my body was alternately on fire and vibrating...not fun, to say the least. I was being treated by a neurologist who was fine (if initially not forthcoming with information, prognosis, etc.), but the upshot of his advice was to be thankful I wasn't fully paralyzed and to wait out the time needed to get the medication sorted.
Enter Cathy. Upon the recommendation of a friend, I made an appointment, and found a health provider who was sympathetic but analytical, and in the very first treatment gave me the first relief from pain I had experienced in months (I actually wept with gratitude!). Over the course of the following 2.5 years, I received regular treatments and, although the damage from this condition is not fully reversible, I made an excellent recovery, regaining much of the use of my hands and a decrease in my other symptoms. Acupuncture was also immensely beneficial to my overall well-being, stress management, neck/back pain, etc., and Cathy's warmth, professionalism, and technical acumen make her a truly outstanding provider.
I moved out of the Boston area in Fall 2006, and was unable to find another acupuncturist I was comfortable with in my new location. My symptoms became more pronounced, and my ability to cope effectively with them lessened. Thankfully, I am back in town, and have been seeing Cathy once a week again, with excellent results. I am going off of my neurological meds, and this process (which I was dreading) has been much more manageable due to her intervention. Although my situation is somewhat unique (or at least comparatively rare), Cathy's treatments have also helped with a wide variety of common ailments shared by many, and I strongly recommend her every chance I get. read more
