Acton just finished our home remodel of our Master bedroom suite, and 2 bedrooms, a study and a bathroom. The crew of Acton did a great job for 6 months while we also stayed in the house. All the staff and contractors were great - they showed up every morning on time, worked hard, and cleaned up before going home. And each contractor was very talented at his craft. Jenn, our project advisor, and Enrique, our onsite supervisor, were always immediately available for our concerns, and went above and beyond to take any needed action in a very timely manner. They were such a pleasure to work with, listened to our wishes and concerns, and made every effort to make them happen. Acton ADU is a streamlined, personal organization that leaves you with a high quality building personalized to your needs. We found their planning, communication, permit navigation, and building to be very high quality. Planning with Acton was very simple. They have a suite of choices both for the structural design, but also for nearly every aspect you could want. We even made some modifications ourselves that fit our needs and they were more than accommodating. We ended with a project plan we were fully behind and excited to see to completion. The team at Acton showed themselves to be high level communicators. They anticipated questions, gave frequent updates, and took the time necessary to answer all of our questions throughout. They also utilized an app called Buildertrend that gave us daily updates, calendars, photos, invoices, and any other information we could need from the project. It worked well and keep us constantly in the loop. One of the most daunting aspects of building an ADU is understanding and correctly following all of the permit requirements. Acton ADU handled all of that as part of the build. They know the codes and how to best expedite processes toward a positive conclusion. Acton even has pre-approved building plans that can be approved in a couple weeks rather than several months, which is one thing that drew us to their company in the first place. Finally, and most importantly, the build is fantastic. We watched our ADU come to life as we had planned and the crew working on the structure were amazing. From concrete to framing, drywall, and stucco, the team at Acton clearly knows how to do their work at a high quality. I've been interested in the ADU market and decided to pull the trigger on filling out the contact us form on several different specialized ADU builders. Of the 6 that I submitted a form with, only Action ADU replied to me. Not only were they the only ones that replied to me, they replied to me within 24 hours explaining their process and to set up a preliminary Zoom call. During the Zoom call, I learned more about their process and had an oppurtunity to discuss what exactly I wanted in my ADU. My lot has a unique lay out and immediately Jennifer discussed what kind of builds would go best with my lot. She suggested ideas I never considered and the best use cases would be for me. We had a good idea of how we wanted to move forward. Acton ADU just completed my 583 square-foot dream little house. I love it. I had a lot of ideas on what I wanted and I am extremely happy with how it turned out. My Project Manager, Chris Gard is the best. Even after a design is completed there are always things that come up during construction. Chris kept me posted on a daily basis and was always available to answer my questions. Because I am only 4'11" I had a lot things lowered and Chris frequently called me over to the ADU to determine where I would like certain things. He is very knowledgeable and could answer all my questions ( I ask a lot of questions) and did so willingly, respectfully and kindly. Because of COVID, I was naturally home a lot and the ADU was the main focus for me and the entire neighborhood. Besides me, he had to deal with a very curious neighborhood. When he wasn't on site, I could always text him or call him and he always got back to me. The only bad news now is that everyone in the neighborhood wants a tour and I am still living out of boxes! Acton has just completed our dream kitchen remodel and we could not be happier. From our very first meetings with Acton (Stan and Jenn), we were impressed with their professionalism and approach to our project. They were excellent listeners and captured the full picture of what we were hoping to achieve. Our design team Lynne and Marianna helped guide us through all the decisions and options to fit our needs and keep us in line with our budget. I HIGHLY recommend the the team at Acton ADU. We hired them to tear down our detached garage and custom build a 600 sq.ft. ADU for my parents to live in. They were absolutely amazing! From our first meeting with Jennifer M. to our final meeting with Stan. Our Project Manager, Chris Gard, was everything you would want in a manger when constructing a big project like this. Chris was great at communicating, was super responsive, and addressed all of our needs in a timely and professional manner. Chris collaborated with us throughout the process and He was very helpful with providing his recommendations throughout the process and listening to our needs or any concerns. He took extra care to take care of any issues that came up and genuinely had our best interest in mind. Chris was happy to field any questions and provide advice on our ADU as well as whatever was going with our main house. I also appreciate that there were never any surprises and Chris took great care to build the ADU with as least disruption as possible. We just finished our second project with Acton. Because of the success with our ADU construction, we hired them again to remodel our kitchen. There were Covid delays and supply chain issues, but we were always kept updated by our project manager Chris Gard. He was straightforward and honest. He *always* got back to us with answers. No BS. He is a great manager, and his long experience in the construction industry has served him well. He was very hands-on and more than capable of taking over certain tasks when necessary. We also appreciated the work and work ethic of Tim Cervantes. What an amazing job he did with the finish carpentry. He is a perfectionist and a problem solver. Putting a new kitchen in a very old house requires thinking outside the box; he is just great at that, and he is a pleasure to be around. Mariana helped plan our remodel - she's responsive, talented and a joy to work with. And to Vinnie, who took care of a hundred large and small details - thanks for your conscientious work. We chose Acton because they have over 30 years of residential experience and for their pre-approved construction plans that help expedite the permitting process with the city.  While we did end up deviating a bit from our chosen plan so it better suited our needs, working through the changes with the planning team was very smooth and we came up with a space that we love. Once all the designs were set and construction was approved, we met with our Project Manager, Chris Gard.  Chris was fantastic...organized, detailed, responsive, and just what we needed to get through this project!  He outlined the whole process, timeline and expectations, and did an excellent job effectively managing the many-many subcontractors, holding them accountable for any issues and working to the best results possible. Our review of Acton Construction is long overdue but so worthy...we hired Stan and Co. to rebuild our detached garage and are thrilled with the results. His interaction with us, the designer, city inspectors and sub contractors was top notch. Both Stan and the job foreman on our project were very thorough and communicated with us on a daily basis throughout, which was especially comforting for our first remodel of any kind. We also had some unique aspects to our project that Acton was happy to accommodate...when we ran into any kind of quandary or issues Stan had a certain enthusiasm for finding solutions. Clearly the man loves what he does and looks at difficulties as a puzzle to solve, rather than a pain in his backside. So two years removed from the project being completed, Stan still asks us if everything with the project is still OK. Earlier this year we mentioned a minor plumbing issue and he had a plumber out the next day to fix it and--unexpectedly--covered the cost. We had four bids on our project and despite the fact that Stan's came in at just about the middle, we felt he overdelivered at every opportunity and that we made the right choice. We'll definitely be giving Acton a call when we get around to our kitchen remodel. read more

I own an "old-ish" 1927 house near the Rose Garden area of San Jose. Since owning the house, I have had three major jobs done on it--all done by Acton Construction. In 2005 they tore down my old detached garage and built a brand new garage/office combination with interior bathroom. This was a challenging job, as Stan and Co. had to deal with a very unreasonable (and irrational) neighbor to get the job done. In 2011 they took down a wall and did a full kitchen remodel. In 2015 they completely remodeled the master bathroom. The work was of excellent quality, and Stan and Co. did not run over their projected budgets. I ended up spending more on these projects than I originally anticipated, but this was my fault as I wanted to add things during the projects resulting in change orders. Only comment I have is that, having used them for more than a decade now, I have noticed that they have become more "premium" and "high end" in terms of their pricing as compared to other contractors. They're competitive but not a bargain, but if you're doing a remodel in a house you're going to keep long-term (and not just flip), you get what you pay for. read more

Working with Acton Construction is quite simply awesome. They are true professionals and craftsmen. We have done two projects with Stan and company. In 2005 they built a new detached garage with attic storage and an externally accessible home office. The quality of this project was outstanding. In 2015 we had Acton remodel our 75-year-old home, including the kitchen, the second bedroom, master bedroom with a new master bath and a new built-in office and walk-in closet. This extensive project was done while we lived in front part of the house. Stan and the entire company are thoughtful and excellent communicators throughout the entire process. We had a few ideas and design goals going into our project. Acton took those ideas and came back with good suggestions on how to achieve our goals. They were on time and on budget with NO surprises. The only cost overages we had were due to changes we wanted to make during the process. Their thoroughness and attention to detail paid off when we sailed through each inspection. TL;DR: We hired Acton Construction to create an opening in an interior wall. Stan Acton and his team were professional, quick, precise and courteous. 'Nough said. We met with Stan Acton a week and a half before moving in our new apartment for consultation regarding creating an interior opening in a wall between our kitchen/dining area and living room. Stan was nice, professional, patient, and gave us confidence in his advice. We were considering several options, and Stan advised to go with a window-like opening, rather than a bigger change of completely tearing down part of the wall, as he thought it to be a better choice at least for starters, as we get the "look-and-feel" of our new home - despite this opening would cost less than a more major change. We took Stan's advice and could not be happier. As we were moving in within a week and a half, Stan made sure to schedule the project rapidly so we'll have everything done before the move. Indeed, within 2.5 days his excellent team created the opening, installed in a wooden sill identical in style to the window edges in our home for a perfect blend-in, and textured the wall to match the rest of the room. To save some money, we requested the painting job to be left for us to complete, which Stan accepted with no resistance. During the entire project, all communication with Stan and his team was clear and pleasant. We sincerely could not be happier with the final result. The work was done perfectly down to the small details. Especially after hearing unfortunate stories from friends who hired small-time companies/contractors without as extensive background as Acton Construction, we could not be happier with our choice. Acton presented a complete and detailed proposal with options and budget, allowing for a flexible array of choices as work proceeded. The work was accomplished as proposed, on time and within budget, and included design, permits, and historical review. I have known Stan Acton and hired him for many jobs over the span of about 20 years. I can't recommend him highly enough. We have an old, complicated, historical home, and Stan has been immensely helpful in helping us sort out what needs to be done. He is so smart, has total integrity, and is a great strategist. He is able to analyze the situation, prioritize the parts, and help decide how to proceed. His work is impeccable, and his crews are skilled, polite, and they clean up! He really understands the cost/benefit concept, and won't recommend things just to get the job. He is not the cheapest bid, ever, but whenever I choose the cheapest bid I regret it because the job is not well done, and wish I had hired Stan, who always does a great job and there are no problems. Lesson learned. I have referred many people to him, and they have all been extremely satisfied with his expertise, integrity, and the jobs he did for them. Stan is just simply the BEST! We highly recommend Acton construction. We needed to demolition our old garage, build a new garage with a workout room and add a porch. Stan was incredibly organized and you could see his genuine love for his profession. He brought his proposal in an organized binder with the plans fully layer out. Stan's bid was higher than some but we were impressed with his detailed plan and his previous projects completed in the neighborhood. I've heard from friends that extended deadlines and over run on cost was typical, yet Stan finished the project on schedule and exactly within the allotted budget. The quality of workmanship was top notch. Communication was excellent. The timing of the many project decisions went smoothly. A few things that needed adjustment once the project was finished and paid for were promptly addressed to our satisfaction.
