Gas light was lit, my phone was dead, I was drained from working all night and worse part of it all...I was totally clueless of my whereabouts. It was a do or die situation lol. I ended up pushing the car for at least 15mins on Sierra Highway. I was so close to pulling over somewhere to cry about it lol. I didn't notice the condition of the bill at the time because I trusted that the cash I received from the store was acceptable. The next day, when I attempted to use the $50 bill to make a purchase, I noticed that it was damaged. I immediately returned to the Pilot Travel Center and explained the situation, requesting a simple bill exchange. Unfortunately, the employee declined to exchange the bill, even though she and her coworker were there when I had originally received it. Instead of resolving the issue, I was told to come back at 11 PM that Sunday. I find this response very frustrating and unacceptable. Pilot Travel Center should be accountable for the condition of the bills they accept and then give back to their customers. Customers should not be left stuck with damaged money after making a purchase at your store. I hope management looks into this situation and trains employees on how to properly handle situations like this. This could have been easily resolved with a simple bill exchange, but instead I was left feeling like my concern was being ignored.

But then I, a 36-year-old with grey hair and a full beard, was denied a lighter because I didn't show ID. The cashier insisted it was "state law," which is completely false. You don't even need to be 18 to buy a lighter in California. The staff here move like they're in slow motion and act like they've never been trained. It's like walking into a break room at a retirement home where no one knows what's going on. I'm all for protecting kids from adult products--but that's not what this is. This is incompetence, plain and simple. To the owner: pay a little more and hire people who can think. Right now, your store is staffed with the most clueless group of people I've ever seen in customer-facing roles. Do better.
