Action Security is one of those companies that work hard for YOU. I have done business with them multiple times through work and at my home.

Mister Sparky of New Castle County

I recently hired Mister Sparky of New Castle County to install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors…read morein my home. The technicians who came out, Jeremiah and Warren, were courteous and professional, and the installation work itself was completed without incident. On that front, I have no complaints. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill quickly once I looked at my invoice. According to the invoice, nine detectors were installed: five smoke detectors and four carbon monoxide detectors. Yet I was billed for ten smoke detectors, resulting in an overcharge. The documentation on the invoice clearly shows what was installed, making this discrepancy impossible to miss. I called the office the very next day to report the error and was told someone would call me back. No one did. I called again a few days later and spoke with a staff member who assured me she would bring the matter to the General Manager and that I would hear back by the end of the business day. I did not. As of this writing, I have received no return call, no credit to my credit card, and no refund check. I have since sent a formal written demand for the appropriate refund. Good technicians should not be undermined by poor billing practices and a customer service process that simply does not follow through on its commitments. Until this is resolved, I cannot in good conscience recommend Mister Sparky of New Castle County to anyone.

After setting up an appointment, Cody O. was dispatched to my home. He introduced himself and explained he would be looking at the outlets I called about and doing an evaluation to determine what, if any, other electrical needs my home had. He looked at the outside outlets and the garage outlets (but didn't test them, which I thought was odd) and explained they were on the same circuit. He looked at the breaker panel and the outlet beneath it. He asked about the smoke detectors and other electrical appliances in my home and wrote up 3 quotes. Each quote included enrollment in their maintenance plan and a varying number of electrical upgrades. The costs started At $4000 for all the bells and whistles to $2500 for about half the bells and whistles to $835 for just the outlet upgrades and the maintenance plan. I told him I would need to discuss it with my wife because we were not planning on that large an expense at this time. He encouraged me to call him that evening to get the repair scheduled since I needed the outlets fixed quickly. He then charged me the $75 service fee for coming by. After he left I spoke to a friend who recommended a master electrician in the area who came by looked at the outlets and tested them, checked the same panel and outlet beneath it in the basement but when he looked at the outlet, he noticed the GFCI had tripped and pushed it in restoring power to the 3 outlets in question! He was in and out of my home in 15 minutes and had solved the problem whereas Cody was there for an hour and was so busy trying to upsell me, he couldn't be bothered to fix the actual issue. I spoke to a manager a few days later and expressed my displeasure and he understood my frustration and refunded my service fee. He also offered to come by himself and make the upgrades himself at a discounted rate for my inconvenience! I appreciate the attempt to make things right when service didn't meet the expectations. I may give them another shot some other time.

Boulden Brothers installed a new HVAC for us about 3 years ago. We live in a small townhouse. It…read morecost about $14,000. Since then we have paid them every month for a maintenance contract. ($336,00 per year). We supplied the filters. They have been here twice a year since. This time when they came, they wanted an additional $500.00 to clean the furnace!! I checked with other reputable HVAC companies. This is not standard policy. Sadly I cannot recommend this company. I regret ever giving them the business. Be careful. Before you make such a large investment, make sure you understand the warranty going forward.

What would you do?…read more Just yesterday we had a visit from the people who installed our furnace. I called them because four times in a row the furnace tripped the breaker and that meant we had no heat because the furnace went off. my husband had to go down into the basement and flip the breaker to get the heat back on. At one point I even had to call our good friend, Stephen to come help. I couldn't figure out how to do it. There was something about you have to push it this way then that way and it's not something I'll be good at. Prior to this, there was a banging and clanging in the same furnace and we called the installers to come and fix that please. $300 later we learned all that clanging was caused from the filter not put in correctly so my husband took responsibility for that. Prior to this when we first bought this Furnace, we believe we were talked into a bigger more expensive unit than we even needed. $13,000 to cool and heat our house? We live in a two-story colonial we don't live in a mansion. Then there was their service fees or whatever they call it some sort of fee that you pay monthly to get some special kind of service that amounted to them coming to our home to inspect this and that so they could find more things wrong and charge us $1000 here and $1000 there for things they called necessary. We had no clue so we paid it. This happened one too many times so I canceled the so-called "service." Going back to yesterday, bear in mind I called them because the furnace was shutting itself off. After two hours and $300 later the service technician said the water heater was causing a hot spot in the breaker board or whatever you call it. Because of this he needed to turn it off the power to the water heaters. We would have to go without hot water until an electrician could come. An electrician from the same company mind you. Well that was going to cost another $300! We sucked it up thinking we were going to have pay it because who else could we call? And we were already in for $300 for nothing. They said they could come yesterday afternoon but I had other plans. I had a date with a friend, who has a very busy schedule, so I don't often get to see her. It was girls day! So I opted to have them come the next day. They were going to come today sometime between noon and four. But when I called to let them know that the furnace was clanging and they told me they wanted another $99 for another service call. I told them to shove it not in those words, but I made it very clear that I cannot deal with this company anymore. I consider them the biggest rip off in town. What would you do? my husband got on the phone and called another electrician. And if we need any more help with this furnace , I'll be calling friends. I will not be calling Boulden Brothers!
