My in laws travelled to MA to stay with us for a while. Needless to say, they forgot to hand over the house key to the caretaker who now could not get in. So, here they are fretting about the issue, Dad's in the doghouse for the crime of omission, Mom's alternating between fretting and casting doghousy looks @ Dad. And of course, we couldn't make a dupe of the key we had @ Home Depot (that's another story how the HD person almost took the key and vanished).
In swoops, their favorite son-in-law (though to be fair, I should add, I'm the only one so competition wasn't exactly high) with his trusted Yelp review scan. Since Burlington's close to me, I decided to take a trip here to see if they could do anything.
The really nice lady welcomed me into the shop. While she was figuring out if a dupe could be made (it was a slightly unusual key which probably explains why other places couldn't help), I looked around the place and liked what I saw. Well stocked and lock/key related stuff disiplayed with care. They also sell safes and many other thingamajigs (color coded keys etc)
After around 5 minutes, she came back and while I was ready to receive a "Sorry, can't be done" response, was surprised to hear her ask if I wanted just 1. Since I'm paranoid by nature, I asked for two (why, 2, the gentle reader may well ask. Well, let's say the single key I get made has a slight distortion and it doesn't work. All this work of finding the place, coming here, hopes raised up, sending the key to the caretaker etc gets wasted, don't it ??)
SO, I says 2 and she goes back and I shortly hear a whistling and howling and brambling (ok, there's no such word but I felt like using it here) from the lathe and out come 2 shiny new keys raring to open doors. I got these, and also got two little color rings that afore-mentioned nice lady kindly stuck onto the keys, paid my dues (a paltry 7$) and left.
Needless to say BOTH keys worked fantastically, Dad's out of the doghouse, mom's happy and me ? Well, I'm of course their favoriter son in law than before...
My only regret was the amount I paid seemed too low compared to the benefit we got out of the whole experience. I really hope this place thrives. read more
