    518 Auto Sales

I want to start by saying that we have been dealing with 518 Auto for years, and it has always been…read moreour go-to place since they first opened. We have typically worked directly with Kyle, the owner, especially because our children drive these vehicles and he truly values safety. This time, however, we worked with Mark. Things started off well. I made it clear that the vehicle was for my son, and initially, Mark seemed attentive. He even asked for a Yelp review while I was signing the paperwork, but I prefer to wait until the entire process is completed before leaving a review. Unfortunately, after the paperwork was signed, the experience went downhill. The vehicle needed servicing because the battery would not start. Mark informed my son that a part had to be ordered and that the car would be ready on Monday or Tuesday. Monday passed, and on Tuesday (1/13/26), Mark texted my son stating the vehicle would be ready at 1:00 PM. When my son and husband arrived on Tuesday, things became frustrating. They were told that the temporary tags Ms. Hall had prepared were misplaced. My husband also noticed that Mark seemed more focused on selling cars to other customers rather than assisting the customer who was standing right in front of him. It felt as though my son and his vehicle were no longer a priority since the paperwork was signed. When the car was finally started, it became clear that there was no gas in the vehicle. Mark continued running the car despite this and stated he was too busy to get gas, yet the car could not be moved off the lot. The car eventually ran out of gas right there. Mark then said he would send someone to get gas. After waiting for some time, someone arrived with a gas can, filled the vehicle, and Mark said everything was fine. However, once my husband got into the car to finally leave, he realized that the windows and radio were not working. Because of this, we were unable to even check the heating and cooling to see how it worked. My husband went back inside to inform Mark, but instead of addressing the issue, Mark told him hold on, made a phone call, spoke briefly to others, stated he was leaving, and walked out leaving my husband standing in the parking lot without any explanation. Before my husband could become more upset, AJ stepped in thankfully. I want to sincerely thank AJ, Alex, Ms. Hall, and Scott for stepping up and helping us through this situation. Their efforts did not go unnoticed. They worked together as a team to help resolve the issue. While we are still waiting for the vehicle to be fully serviced, AJ and Scott went above and beyond by providing us with a loaner car in the meantime. Because of them, our confidence in 518 Auto has not been completely lost, and we truly appreciate their professionalism and support.

MARK the sales guy was making it seem like he was going to try to help with the situation and figure something out. The guy never tried to reach out and was dodging me as much as he could. I told them I would decline the warranty but they said that wasn't an option. we have owned 3 Maximus, 2 pathfinders and a versa.... and now the kicks.....this has put such a bad taste in my mouth I won't be replacing my pathfinder, which we are ready to replace, with another Nissan. sad how one bad apple spoils the barrel.

I've always been happy with them but my recent sales experience is bad. I was flat out lied to and none of the the discounts or KBB values were honored. I was in a pickle and needed a vehicle so I signed a good deal but was lied to on additional discounts I was eligible for even when I showed them the discounts. 1. $1000 buyer down payment assistance not honored 2. I was charged $899 for the Banister Lifetime Warranty which is supposed to be no charge to customer 3. I showed an email and text showing $2500 over KBB for trade, they didn't honor it! None of this was honored, none. I didn't raise a stink because I thought I was getting a good deal yet I was actually told false information. Now, I know it was false and contacted them, to date no reply, nothing at all...crickets! I am highly disappointed in Banister. This is my fifth purchase from Banister, four from Chesapeake and one from Norfolk. This will be my last and will no longer recommend them.

I usually get my service done at Pohanka in Fredericksburg where one doesn't need an appointment, and they are open late and early...to include Sunday. So there were still several hours left before techs departed but after I found someone I asked if they were a service advisor said no. Then they asked how they could help me. I took it they actually were advisors. Well I got the "gee I don't know there are a few people in front of you. It will be at least a couple of hours...." Well hmmm a couple of hours past 1 would be 3, still two hours from closing by techs. Why sell me on leaving? Why not just say absolutely if you are interested in staying we have coffee and a warm waiting room just be aware it will be a couple of hours. I would have stayed and gotten the service and read the news or wandered around looking for the next Honda. Oh I will buy a Honda but likely not from this dealership.

They are evidently understaffed & not handling it well. When I pulled in to drop off my car for 6am service the next day it took awhile for someone to approach. When she asked if I was dropping it off for an appointment tomorrow she just tried to hand me a form & rudely said "Fill this out." I told her I needed to talk to a Service Advisor & she walked away without a word. I waited. After quite a while someone else came with a form & said "Fill this out." I told him the same thing & he just walked away. I waited. Finally after no one else came I opened the door of a Service Advisor booth & said "Can you please help me?" That didn't go much better. When I told him what had happened he said "Have you ever been in the military?" What a strange question for a Senior Citizen. The only women in the military when I was his age were nurses & specialty occupations. And it wasn't about a military discount. It was in the midst of the conversation about me being ignored for so long. I told him I had been coming here fora long time & had never experienced anything except exemplary service. The very young man said something to the effect that they were all stretched to the limit. In my opinion that's not an excuse for poor behavior. I told him what I wanted done & was happy to leave. The next day I approved the estimate by text. The only thing it needed was a windshield wiper replacement, which shouldn't have taken so long. I texted for an update since I felt really bad from testing at the hospital & wanted to pick it up before the late afternoon rush. No answer. Finally I called the main number for service & told her how badly I felt. She told me if the transferred call went to VM to just come. It did. Once there my ride waited, based on my experience the day before. I waited until my service advisor was free & asked about the vehicle. He told me I would have to wait in the waiting area. A very nice trainee eventually came for me. The young Service Advisor first told me he was having to handle the work of two other Service Advisors, at least one of which he told me didn't show up. I ran a business for decades. This isn't the type of thing you tell a customer. They are all very young. The long time experienced Service Advisors appear to no longer be there. Last year I was told that mine had been moved to Toyota Service. I've been using the Service Department for almost two decades. Customer Service, with the exception of the person answering the phone & the trainee, has certainly changed.
