Delicious and refined vegetarian cuisine served in a charming atmosphere.
    Jonathan S.

The most refined vegetarian cuisine I have enjoyed. The presentation, flavors and attention to detail rivaled meals we have eaten in some of the finest restaurants around the world. It was truly a cut above every vegetarian restaurant. The service was attentive but not intrusive. Overall it exceeded expectations in all respects. The only negative was that the meal took quite a long time to conclude, about an hour and 20 minutes with dessert, at lunchtime, so those on a tight schedule might choose to block out some extra time. Just a block from the Roman baths on a quiet square, it is conveniently located.

I took a cooking class with a former chef from this restaurant and have been looking forward to going for a while - I was not disappointed. The flavors and attention to detail in each dish are quite formidable. Paired with a relaxed and modern ambiance, a recipe for success. I especially enjoyed the donkey tail carrots, caramelized carrots and a smokey flavor was a real winner. Even the bread with olive oil and dukkah was lovely. As the menu changes regularly, I look forward to coming again!

Demuth's goal, as stated on their website, is to be the best vegetarian restaurant in SW England. I can safely say that I'm pretty sure it beats most vegetarian offerings here in the United States, as well. In my experience, vegetarian restaurants have always tended to seem slightly down-market. While the food is nourishing and healthy, there is less attention paid to the dining experience, as a whole. Demuth's is a treat for all the senses, a cozy, gorgeous little spot that didn't rely on some of the standard options you might find at a vegetarian restaurant. Each dish we tasted was unique and held it's own surprise. The only thing that guts me about Demuth's is that I have to travel across the ocean to sample the delicious cuisine again.

A deeply satisfying salted chocolate tart aside crumbled Pistachio nuts, a simple sconce. For a Quenelle, of Raspberry sorbet.

Eat Food, not much, mostly plants. This is what the proprietor asks, but I'm afraid I cannot at this establishment. I'd eschew this notion due to wanting to chew on more of their striking potions stylishly and lip lip-lickingly applied to humble produce. I care not for how one has come to corrupt a carrot to make it tasty but this kitchen makes for a celebration. Dishes are bonafide in my eyes, delicious and seasonably sensational. Acorn are Organic Soil certified too. A Strawberry Thyme Martini to start with was daring and playful. My inner cynic (eye rolling at over styled Vegetarian terrain) melted away, silenced as I plunged into a hearty a brick of soft ewes cheese crumbling against an astonishing flush of rich juicy smoked then lavender infused confit Tomatoes, wildly I relished it with the pine nutty flecks of black tapenade dotted around it. Whoever recommended the accompanying Fleurie deserves a bouquet. Then to truly finish me off, a length, a perfect golden triangle, a tarty shard of salted chocolate; my goodness a deeply satisfying salted chocolate tart aside a rubble of crumbled Pistachio nuts, a simple sconce. For a Quenelle! A tantalising palate cleansing raspberry sorbet sat atop. Damn that dessert for taking away the tastes of mains, if I wasn't as stuffed as a marrow I'd have it all again. From great Oaks, sturdy shiny floorboards are made. On this restaurant floor Acorn have cheery collected assured staff tending to a bustle of good food lovers. I'm surprisingly satiated, blown away a little. I hope I've planted the seed of this Acorn enough to tempt you to visit. Book.

Acorn is on a quiet street only a step away from the center and the tourist attraction of the Roman baths. Knowing how popular Acorn is I made a reservation and had a lovely table in the front of the restaurant. As it was Sunday I elected to do the 'Sunday Roast'. Pictures are worth a thousand words. Please observe. Excellent presentation and sensational taste. The service was prompt and friendly. My table was cozy and I felt very at ease during my meal.

Desserts: top is compressed strawberries; bottom is chocolate tart with peanut butter sorbet

We tried everything on their Early Dinner: Starters: we liked the yellow split pea soup more than the carrot and cashew pâté. Mains: Calabrese broccoli and confit jersey royals, and slightly curried cauliflower--both good, had strong robust flavors. We also ordered the seasonal vegetables--delicious. Dessert: salted chocolate tart (very rich), and compressed strawberries (wonderfully refreshing after the chocolate tart). (We'll photos of everything.) Atmosphere was relaxed. We sat down about 6p and didn't leave till 8:15p, which was longer than we'd planned to stay, but that was ok. Friendly staff.

Our tour guide recommended Acorn as a vegetarian option for lunch. I was really interested in trying the food, even though I'm not vegetarian. We ordered the 2 course prix-fix lunch menu and were able to try each other's dishes. We enjoyed the wild garlic and onion seed soup and the wye Valley asparagus dish.

OMG!!! This place is good! I wish it was in London. The starters and soup were off the chart. I started eating the cauliflower before I took a pic. Ohhh man. You need to go!!!

We really enjoyed our meal here. It's a little gem tucked away in an alley off the abbey. They make great use of textures and flavors--the lemon gel and foam made such a great accent I was still thinking about it the next day.

Wow- amazing meal and great value, we felt. Pea soup was so fresh and delicious! Beetroot starter was excellent; as was the cauliflower main. Leek and potato dish was outstanding As was the butternut squash terrine. Highly recommended!

The All Day Menu (from 12pm onward) changes seasonally/"from time to time" according to their website, but some recommendations if they have it: Bang Bang Cauliflower and Tempeh Caesar Salad. The reason why I come here though? Off the Breakfast Menu (served until 11:30am), it's specifically for the Monster Veggie Brekky. A plate of food I think about often, if we're being honest. Two sausages, roast portobello mushroom, bubble and squeak, tomatoes, greens, scrambled tofu, toast, and homemade beans. A side of homemade ketchup and brown sauce, an iced Americano, and a seat by the sunny window midweek late morning when it isn't super busy? That's my perfect start to a day in Bath right there. The food is fresh, plentiful, flavorful, and satisfying. And they actually do have certain baked goods and dessert available all day. Just ask. Usually they can accommodate your request. Don't leave here without trying the sticky toffee pudding!

The menu has dishes ranging from 6-12 pounds, with an option for everyone. We tried multiple dishes during our visit ( a mistake because the portions are generous) and all were delicious. Each of the dishes we tried was full of flavor and had that homemade feeling. The one downside we experienced is that the food did take a while to be ready, but aside from that if you are in the Bath area, The Green Rocket Cafe is an excellent choice. My Criteria 5 stars: The best food I have ever had, or an excellent option given the price. 4 stars: Good food, a restaurant I look forward to trying again. 3 stars: Good food, a restaurant that I am indifferent to. 2 stars: Below average experience, will not go again. 1 stars: This restaurant should be closed.

The space itself has a hipster casual vibe, which is definitely a scene I'm comfortable in. Lots of wood and dark colors and fun light fixtures, there's even a few tables outside (but good luck snagging those during even remotely nice weather!). It's a relaxed atmosphere that's great for groups of friends, breakfast dates, or solo travelers looking to hide in a corner and study. If you're a fan of a bloody mary, definitely be sure to get one here! Unfortunately, in my opinion, both the food and the service were tremendously disappointing. I'll start with the former: I ordered the Vegetarian Breakfast that comes with a fried egg, grilled halloumi, mushrooms, baked beans, grilled tomato, spinach and hashbrowns. According to the menu, there's also unlimited toast and tea (or americano) when no substitutions, but neither of those options were apparently available to me. The food itself was plentiful, but unmemorable (and bland) compared to similar breakfasts I've had elsewhere. And the staff was, for lack of a kinder word, rude. Dismissive, too. It was actually the worst service I had during my entire trip, and it stinks when a place stands out for that, but that's what I'm gonna remember from SSBD.
