Ackerman is the worst will never recommend them to anyone. I was moving to a new home the i had built so i called Akerman to transfer service, the new home was bigger then the old so i wanted someone to come out to give a quote on a new system and what i needed. I explained to the sales person that im closing on the 15th and wanted someone to come out on that date, but i told them not to cancel my service at the old home until i was sure i was closing on that date, anyone who has a home knows closing dates change and so did mine got pushed back 15 days. But the ass holes at Akerman still cancelled my service on the 15th, then when the salesmen was suppose to come out he didn't show nor did he answer my text or phone calls. So i had to call another provider the next day for installation. Then when i call Akerman to complain they were only concerned with getting their money because i broke the contract, women kept telling " you signed the contract" the money they get off me i hope they lose double. I would give a half-star rating if I could. This company appears to be interested in sales over quality work and customer service. They sold and installed remote services that are incompatible with my panel. They are very clear in explaining after the fact, but made no mention during sales or before installing. And of course, the solution is for me to buy a new panel. I cannot get a manager to return to my calls. And this is just one of my recent installation issues. This is a TERRIBLE company. Stay far away. We bought our house in July of 2013 and selected Ackerman to provide our security monitoring. It is a choice we have regretted ever since. Virtually everyone we have dealt with over there has been some combination of inept, unhelpful and unfriendly. When we wanted to add an additional sensor to our basement exterior door, we were told we would have to select a window of time for someone to meet us at the house to figure out how much they would need to charge us to install a wireless sensor on a door. Really??? We sold our house last week and Ackerman just sent us a bill for the remaining 4-5 months left on the contract. Never mind that we no longer live at the house and will never deal with this company again. They advise that under our Agreement, the service contract automatically renews every year (how convenient!) unless cancelled at least 60 days prior to the end of the current service term. Look, people, I suppose a company can put whatever one-sided garbage it wants to in its binding contract, but we all have a responsibility as consumers to avoid the ones that are blatantly abusive. Ackerman is such a company. Do yourself a big favor and avoid; do the rest of us a favor and do what you can to make sure companies like this do not thrive and eventually cease to exist, or at least change their practices. I signed up with Ackerman security to replace an existing system. Then the sales person was in a car accident and a month went by and no installation and no one told me about the accident. So then I contacted Ackerman again. This time I got another sales person and they sent technicians but found that I needed a wireless system, so they said they'd reschedule. Then two guys came out and one of them said I was a "health hazard" because I have dogs with pee pads and he wouldn't do the job because he had cancer the previous year, and the second salesman said that the company wouldn't send out any technician because I have animals in the house, making it a "health hazard" for their technicians. Extremely upset with Ackerman Security right now. We've had our alarm for a year and were never told we needed to register the alarm with the city. Now because we had police go to our house when we were out of town and the alarm went off, we are now being charged $150 for not having it registered. Also I had to move unexpectedly to take care of an ill family member and they said they require 60 days notice by mail!!! So I am paying for two months of alarm service I will not even use. The technician was nice enough. I called because I was having the alarm go off in the middle of the night and scaring me to death. The pad said someone was breaching my master bedroom window. Not possible as I was sleeping in front of it. Technician said it could be the wiring on the metal window, so disconnected it. My only option was to put a glass break gizmo in that room. The system I have is not adequate and I do not feel safe. If person breaking in does not break a window, I am in trouble. There will be no alarm unless a door opens. I am planning to drill holes in the window casement and insert collar nails, old remedy used for years. Will then cancel Ackerman service and use my loaded 38 service. I do not understand why security systems cannot be more affordable, they have us paying for the rest of our lives. read more

After having been with Ackerman for more than a year, I just realized how bad they are in service. Thank God we did not have an alarm event, but when my kids open the door when the alarm is on, the alarm goes off but no one ever called from Ackerman. This happened many times. When I called to cancel the service, they said I've a three year agreement and will have to pay to cancel the contract. The rep told me to call and have the system tested with one of their reps. I did and the rep tested the system. Then she told me that they are receiving the alert from our system very late and something could be wrong. She said she will send a tech out to our home to test the system. She NEVER told me that I will be charged for that service call. The apt time for the tech to come was from noon to 4.00pm. The tech called me at 6.30AM and said he will be there in 30 minutes!! He came and checked out the system and asked me if Ackerman was our service provider because he said the system is not showing the correct numbers. This was after more than a year of me paying their bills. He said he fixed the system and told that I have to pay 90 bucks for the call!! I asked him why I should I pay because firstly I did not call him, his company sent him because the system was not working correctly and the lady never told me that I had to pay. I paid the bill reluctantly because I did not have a choice. I'm so frustrated that I've decided to pay the $400 which they said I have to pay to get out of the contract. The irony of the whole issue is that upon hanging up with the rep for cancellation, I get an thank you email which I reproducing below which says 'No long term agreements required!! Ackerman Security are some grade A liars and crooks. Long story short, the sales guy that came to our home lied to us about the different monitoring products that they offered and how they worked, but come to find out after spending $2,000 in upfront costs, we could only use a third of the monitoring systems that he sold us and it took Ackerman nearly 2 months to reimburse us. With that being said, after receiving our 2nd bill (the 1st bill included 3 months upfront), Ackerman hounded us for $75 after only having the bill for 2 days. We called in to express our dissatisfaction with their service and set up a date that we would CALL in to pay the bill. Low and behold, the freaking thieving billing rep went into our bank account that same day and stole money from account by using our checking account number from the $2,000 check we had given them upon initial service. This caused an overdraft in our bank account, and Ackerman had the nerve to send us a certified letter stating that we still owed them money. GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK! The worst company ever! I'd rather spend extra money with ADT than save money with a bunch of thieves and liars. Absolutely the worst customer service department I have dealt with, and that's saying a lot. I've had 15 phone calls with them trying to get my system repaired, and they don't call you back, don't show up when they say they will, and when they do show up don't have tools or knowledge to fix the system they sold me. I feel like I've thrown away $5,000, and will have to find another alarm company and may have to start over. My last service bill was over $500 and their guy spends a lot of his time on the phone while I pay $150 hour. If there's ever a company that shouldn't have something like "we strive for customer service excellence" on their endless hold recordings, this is it. read more

Ackerman wireless alarm system keep issuing false alarms at my home. Several calls to the company resulted in a tech visit whereupon the technician wanted to bill me for the visit. I refused and he left. My system will randomly send out false alarms sometimes at 2:30am, rousing everyone from their sleep. Ackerman refuses to fix the problem except I pay their technician. Moreover, I tried to log into my account to pay my bill, my account was inaccessible. Therefore, I call Ackerman and paid over the phone. Subsequently, they are automatically billing my credit card for the service even though I did not consent to that procedure. I called their customer service about the automatic billing, and the customer service rep said I can remove the card if you like. I asked why was the card automatically charged in the first place. She responded by saying to someone, "he is getting on my nerves." I have Ackerman security both at home an on my business. They are GONE!!! I will not use them again, and will NEVER recommend them. They are RUDE!!! UNPROFESSIONAL!!!! And have grown too big for the boots. Their WIRELESS DEVICE is second rated and issues false alarms... BEWARE. read more

I agree with most of the reviews on Yelp about this company. They are not really consumer friendly. I have been a customer with these guys for 10+ years because I wanted to work with a local company. I wanted to call and cancel the service because we had to remodel on one of our properties. We signed an agreement for our condo in 2010. I guess it was a 3 year contract with auto renewal for 12 months on anniversary date. When it auto renewed in 2013, they increased the price by $1 without getting my permission. It auto renewed in Nov 2014. In both cases I did not get even a courtesy email that my agreement is being renewed. When I tried to cancel today they said that I will owe them $250+ for the remainder of the contract. While technically they may be correct, several regulators have said that for contracts signed way back when, the businesses have to tell customer at least once a year of the service that they have signed up for. So I am taking this up with CFPB, BBB, and the Georgia Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs. I will keep you all posted. I would not recommend Ackerman Security Systems to anyone. Before I signed my contract I asked my salesman can I get out of the contract when I sell my house. He told me yes and that was the only way to get out of the contract so foolishly, I signed the contract. I have just sold my house and was told by Ackerman management that since I signed the contract I am still bound by it even though I sold my house and was told differently by the salesman. I will let the new owners know and would recommend Jackson EMC Security which is who I should have gone with. I am also going to call the Better Business Bureau and make my complaint to them. They obviously need to train their salesmen not to tell the customer something that is not true just to get them to sign a contract. read more

BEWARE OF ACKERMAN SECURITY! If you are searching for residental or business security, Ackerman Security should be avoided at all costs. I have never experienced the level of unprofessional, poor customer service, & poor business practices- as I have experience in Two Days with Ackerman Security. This company's employees including Management are the absolute WORST. Day One (Installation): Technician (Coffe) arrives at my home to install a wireless radio system. He sets up the equipment then discovers my glass breaker is inactive and there is no sensor on my front door (which by the way is 90% Glass). Furthermore, he should have checked those things previously in order to ensure the installation would be a success. I have several windows in my living room which are located just a few feet away from my front door. Obviously, this is a concerning issue to me, knowing if a theif were to brake into my home by braking a window, especially via my front door- Ackerman Security would not be notified. I ask him to explain how the alarm system will signal to Ackermen security if the two most important features are non responsive to the wireless radio receiver. The technician was immediately annoyed, frustrated, and rude. He began shuffling around my home lifting up all of my living room windows talking to himself. This provoked my alarm to sound. The technician allowed the alarm sirens to wale for 15 minutes with No Explanation or Apology! He finally turns the system off. I ask him again what do I need to do because I am uncomfortable and feel that my glass braker and door sensor are important. He gets upset and starts rambling on about being a contractor and he doesn't care. I asked him to call his supervisor because I would not sign the contract if I didnt feel my home was fully secure. I left out of my home to contact Ackerman of his unprofessional behavior. I spoke with Jennifer as well as Nell my consultant. Both ladies apologized. I was instructed to contact retention first thing in the morning. I returned home and the tech was gone! Day Two (Cancellation): I called Ackerman Security Headquarters at 8:05am. I was informed by Sarah that I would here back from management by noon. She apologized for the technicians behavior and understood why I felt my home wasn't secure. No one every called me back. I called Ackerman at 3:00pm Friday I was shuffled around and completely dismissed. I informed SIX of their representatives within an hour of waiting to speak with someone regarding my disapproval of the technician and their current disregard for my request for cancellation in addition to my disapproval of their customer service and unprofessional behavior. After One hour and Fifteen Minutes a manager name Pam finally gets on the phone. I express all of my concerns to her, and she gets annoyed but finally offers to cancel my contract, seeing that my installation was insufficient. She informs me that she will email the paperwork and schedule a day for someone to pick up the radio. Immediately after ending my hour and forty minute call, KENT BLIFF (another installation manager) calls me. He immediately declines my cancellation and tells me he doesn't know why i am upset with them, and my experience wasn't valid enough for him to cancel my contract. THE DEVIL IS A LIAR PEOPLE! I restated my conversation with Pam, emphasized my conversation with Pam was recorded (per Ackerman Policy) and he totally disregarded it. Talk about poor business practices! As if Pam couldnt make a sound decision. I dont know who this guy thought he was. He tried to intimidate me, he was rude to me, dismissive, and accepting of his technicians actions; as well as insensitive to the ridiculous time it took for someone in installation to return and even address my concern (poor customer service, unprofessional). Those weren't valid reasons in addition to my poor and incomplete installation? SERIOUSLY! It is obvious that this company breeds unprofessionalism, poor customer service, and poor business practices from the Top Down! Additionally, I have yet to receive my cancellation email or hear back from Ackerman Security. I will be posting reviews on EVERY public review site and social media outlet in order to warn as many people as possible of this awful business. I felt compelled to create a Yelp account based on my recent service with Ackerman. Ive had Akerman since the beginning of September and assumed my house was being monitored. My mother-in-law set off the alarm in December but I did not receive a phone call from the monitoring service. A technician was sent out and determined that my alarm system was not even hooked up to the home monitoring station. There was no service fee for reconnecting. Didnt even get a sorry, even though I paid for 3 months of service that wasn't even there. Then after a month of monitoring my fire alarm goes off. They contact me, fire truck shows up, no fire, it was a false alarm. I contact customer service to see what happened and they suggested I get a technician to come over and inspect it. He comes over and dinks around for exactly 28m (says so on the invoice) and charges me $149 to say it might be the wire to the fire alarm needs changing but he isnt entirely sure. 149$ for that? I was never told there would be a charge for this, and why would I since there wasnt a charge for the technician to come out in December. He was nice enough but it clearly states on the invoice that the 1st 1/2 hour is 79.95. Where is this 149$ coming from? The invoice isnt itemized. Clearly this is fraud with the false alarm and the suggestion I have a service technician sent out without clearly stating there would be a charge for it. When my contract is up, I will be dropping you shady business people. Im contacting the BBB about this as well. I will NEVER recommend Ackerman Security to anyone. Edit: Just now seeing the President saying on other reviews that what happened to them is unique and that they should call customer service. All these people cant be wrong, can they? i have never been so disappointed with customer service than today. I have only been with this company for two months and from the start it has been a nightmare. The customer service SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was transferred four different times just placed on hold and not transferred. They just transferred me to another agent and did not stay on line so I had to tell my story all over again what I needed. Do not be fooled by their cheap monitoring service. They provide the worst customer service I had ever experienced in my 58 years of existence in this world. I switched to Ackerman from ADT 5 years ago and had been paying extra $10 for equipment warranty, and now that my system went bad, Ackerman won't honor the warranty and yet, tried to sell me a new one for $300 (main pad), and $150 (satellite pad). Had been arguing with them about this since May, and now, August will soon be over, and there's no resolution yet. I do not recommend this company at all. My remote app stopped working a month ago, and after numerous phone calls, they told me basically that they do not know why it won't work, and will contact me when/if they can fix it. I decided to move to a security company that could meet my needs, and now Ackerman will not allow me to exit my contract without paying for services through May of next year, as my contract auto-renewed in May 2018. I explained we let the contract auto-renew because at the time, they were providing services as agreed, but now they are not. They are still charging me to exit the contract. Extremely long wait times for customer service - yesterday I was on hold for 28 minutes before I spoke to a human. Every time you call, they want to start over, rather than looking up notes in customer file. Every rep wants to run the exact same diagnostics over and over. Rude reps, unknowledgeable. DO NOT use this company. I have filed a complaint with the GA State Attorney General's Office of Consumer Protection. read more

At one time, Ackerman was a business that I admired. They were consistently responsive to me as a customer, and they were always prompt when needed for any maintenance on the home system we have. Last year during some construction, I had them come to the house to install a door contact. At that service, I chose to go ahead and upgrade to wireless monitoring. All was good. Later, we decided to install two glass break detectors. It took A LONG TIME to get the service done to install the detectors. I literally had to call six or seven times. Someone always took my info, but no one ever actually called back. Finally, after complaining repeatedly, it got done. However, after this work was performed, things went entirely off the rails. I called Ackerman to speak with someone about how poor the response time was to address the installation of these two glass break detectors. I finally got the area manager, Clinton Harrison. He apologized and assured me that we would not have this issues ever again, and gave me his "direct line." After this conversation, we found that our app to control arming and disarming the system quit working. Our key fob for the alarm quit working fully. I tried to call Mr. Harrison to speak with him about getting these issues fixed. His "direct line" went straight to a full voicemail box. My repeated emails went without response. I called multiple times and left messages with the people who answer the phones - confirming that Clinton Harrison still is the Manager. I was told he still is - but he is almost always "at lunch, but will call me back." Guess what .... he never calls back. I urge anyone considering Ackerman to look elsewhere. We will likely switch to another monitoring system as well. They have stopped being a company that stands behind their product, and I have zero faith in their management. read more

I don't know why I am still under a contract with them, but their customer service has been horrible from the start. We've had Ackerman for the past 4 weeks after we moved into a new house. First off, they have not been upfront with fees. The technician told us we needed to pay an extra $200 more than what the "consultant" originally told us because 4 of our windows weren't hooked up. ADT was up front when they came out and told us how much each window would cost, then Ackerman didn't even say it would cost a thing for the windows - maybe because he never checked. We ended up foregoing some motion sensors because of the extra cost of the windows and have STILL not been credited the $80 we are owed. I have had to take time away from my day to call them about 5-6 times over the past 4 weeks, and FINALLY after speaking with a manager, the credit has gone through (though still not showing in our account so we'll see if that ever happens). The first few times I called about the refund, the person said they would do something and did absolutely nothing. So I guess if you want to get something done, ask for a manager. I badly want Ackerman to work out because I do like that they are based in Atlanta, unlike ADT, and seem like a smaller company. But so far, my experience has been horrible with them. Like I said, I don't even know why I am still in a contract with them. I would not recommend them and I would look elsewhere before choosing Ackerman (and if you go with them, expect to pay a lot of unexpected costs). read more

For some reason everyone in my neighborhood recommends Ackerman but I have not had a good experience. When I first got service, it took 2 sales appointments because the first one sold me something I couldn't use (no existing box and he said it would still work), then a month later the alarm goes off because of a door sensor installed wrong, and they wanted to charge me for a service call. Now I am moving and they quoted me $270 to re-install, i.e. take double sided tape strips off the wall. Also, both sales people told me I am not charged when I move. The person on the phone just now says I have to pay out my contract. I have had 3 sales calls and 3 install/service calls, all of which I had to leave work and come home for. I made one call to a new company for my new address and they are coming to program the system for free (and are slightly less monthly) I will cancel my card before Ackerman gets another $ from me. read more

So I have to agree with leav v., Ackerman is only after one thing: money. I am moving from one rental house that had security systems built into it to another house that doesn't. I called to cancel my Ackerman service which I had for 18 months. I remember signing with them for a 12 month agreement but then continued the service after that ended (not by signing anything, just kept auto paying). Low and behold the CSR told me that I had automatically been renewed for a full year and I cannot cancel without paying a fee of the remaining 6 months (~$200). I asked when i renewed and she said you were automatically renewed when i didn't call when my original 12 months was over. I stated I was never notified via email, mail, phone or anything that i had to do that. She stated that it was in my original agreement (that again i signed 18 months prior so good luck in remembering that tiny detail that was never explained by the sales person) and that i actually would have had to notify them 60 days prior to the original 12 months ending to avoid penalties. I explained how sneaky and shady that is and how most other services at least notify you that you will be committed to a full year if you so choose e.g. DirecTv's Sunday Ticket (I was notified for 2 full months prior to renewing). She said some remark stating that she noted on how i disagreed with their business practices (sure she did). Avoid them at all costs. read more

horrible company! my 12 year old ackerman system broke and i needed a new one installed. i called in, pressed the appropriate button for new service and left a message for a salesperson to call me back. after a week with no call back i went online and requested that a salesperson call me so i could purchase a new alarm- this seems like a no brainer, but these assholes never bothered to reach me. this seemed like such a change from the "old" ackerman that i decided to call and ask for a sales manager- my thought being that he would want to know that someone is calling and emailing basically saying please sell me something. the manager was apologetic and scheduled an appointment for me. i was reluctant to move forward but i agreed. ackerman called back 30 minutes later to try to reschedule the appointment and i told them to just forget it-ADT or any other company has got to be better than these guys. the sales manager called back again and said he could have someone at my house in 30 minutes. when the salesperson arrived i explained to him that my system was old and needed to be replaced with the same system or something comparable. the following week ackerman installed what must be their bottom of there line system and charged me $1800. once i returned to town i noticed that this system had none of the features that i needed and asked for, like voice and chime in the house when someone walks in or out. i called and complained to the salesman that i needed something with voice that would go thru the existing panic button speakers and he said that it was just a matter of adding a sound chip to the new panel, and it could be done for $350. i reluctantly agreed and scheduled the appointment. on the day of the appointment the installer called to let me know he was on the way to install a 2 way radio-i told him i already have a 2 way radio and what i needed is a voice module- he said that doesn't exist, and whoever told me that it did was wrong. at this point i had had enough with ackerman and wanted to complain to a supervisor with hopes that someone, anyone would step up and accept a little responsibility. i was promised that a supervisor would call me back that day, and it never happened. now I'm really angry, and decide to cut my losses. i called ackerman and asked for a refund, a manager said she would look into it and call me back that day-no call back. when she finally did call back she looked at what a shitty job they had done all the way around and decided to give me an additional panel in my bedroom for only $25 so i can hear a chime in the back and front of the main level, but still nothing upstairs or downstairs. the installer came out yesterday (friday) and installed the keypad and let my wife know that it would be $225. once she explained that the supervisor said $25 he said he didn't have that in his notes and that my credit card won file would automatically be charged and we could take it up later with a supervisor. i called in yesterday, spoke with a supervisor, was told she would look into it and give me a call back that day. it's now saturday, no word. i want this system out of my house now, and i want my money back. also, no way in hell could i trust them to monitor my system. they suck-anyone who even considers doing business with them should run like hell. read more

Please pay attention to the reviews below about this company. I typically don't write reviews and in this case I'm writing to agree with those who have commented on the Ackerman contract sham. BE AWARE your contract renews with them every year and you have to contact them 60 days prior to your renewal date to let them know you plan on cancelling or pay an early termination fee( several hundreds)..... Yes you read that correctly. So your renewal is February. You plan on selling your home in the coming year you just don't know when. So you have to notify them in December of the previous year to not renew you come February and cancel... meanwhile you may not be ready to move until much later in the year. Even phone companies and shady cable companies, after your contract has expired you are month to month until you renew or cancel. Now this may mean nothing to you if you plan on using Ackerman in your next location you can just transfer service... if they service your new location at all... if not be prepared to part with $$$$ read more

Ackerman security requires a landline for its security system to work. I had a home phone line when opened an account with Ackerman and about a year later, I switched to Comcast for high speed internet and no longer using the Verizon DSL with a phone line. Every month, Ackerman still continue to automatically charges my credit card on file with them without telling me my security system is no longer work because I don't have a landline phone at home. After about 9 months, my security system was activated couple times and I have never received any phone call from Ackerman. I called them to close this account and learned from them that they didn't receive any signal from my home security system because I don't have a laneline phone. The customer service representative also told me that since I had 3 year contract with them, and if I close my account on today, I still have to pay them the monthly contract fee for the remaining 10 months (which is a total of 19 months being charged without any monitoring service from them. It is really a rip off). Previously, I signed up for 3 years contract with them because they told me that I'll have 3 months service free which will be applied a free month to each year, and so far I have never received any one month free from them until now. This company is one of the worst ones in the home security industry, and I recommend people to stay away from them for a much better service from some one else. read more

DON'T DO IT!!!!! My wife and I recently purchased our first home and decided to go wtih Ackerman as our home security service provider. They came out and evaluated our home--which had a partial existing system--and recommended a couple of upgrades we agreed on. We were told that we would recieve a call that week and a technician would come out and set us up. We paid $170 up front and they cashed it the next day. Approximately, 3 WEEKS LATER we had still not heard from any technician and called to complain. We were told a technician would be two days later. We were never called by the technician when he was arriving (as we requested), and even thought someone was at our house he didn't knock and left a note saying "sorry, we came by but no one was home." We had a enough and called to cancel and requested a refund...which we have yet to hear back from. How can you trust the people who are supposed to watch your house, when they are so INCOMPETENTLY MANAGED!! ADT is more expensive, but at least it's reliable. I will NEVER recommend Ackerman, and learned that you get what you pay for...but actually, in this case we didn't! TERRIBLE COMPANY!!! read more

I have owned different homes since 1978 and have contracted with different security companies over that time. Ackerman Security is the worst. No problems until i had a false alarm that was my fault and the Cobb County Police were called. About a month later i received a bill from the County because my home was not registered with them through the security company. I called ackerman to complain and they admitted that they neglected to register my house. The fine was $100 and Ackerman would only agree to pay half the fine and then only prorate my bill in future months. Because i had to move out of state a few months later and was still owed a portion of my pro-ration, i called and asked for the balance of what we had agreed to and they basically said there was no way they were set up to issue any sort of refund. Very unprofessional company with lousy customer service to boot. Don't do business with them unless low cost is the only thing you care about. Security is too important to leave to a company that when an issue arises, they are of no help and can cost more than the savings. Not very trustworthy for a company whose business depends on trust. read more

They sold us our system when we moved into our new home. Insisted that we buy new equipment. Fine we thought- they are a good company. Now here it is, almost 3 years with them (after all the contract was for 3 years) and our equipment is malfunctioning. They want to charge us an additional $89 for the first HALF HOUR that the technician is in my home. This does not include any time he is in my home longer than thirty minutes or any equipment that may need to be replaced. I think this is absolutely a rip off. The equipment should be covered under a warranty for as long as the contract! I will not use this company again nor would I recommend to friends or neighbors. Currently, my alarm goes of at random times whether the alarm is set or not (3 times during the night last night), and there is no communication with the Ackerman office. So if someone breaks into my home Ackerman will not be able to notify the police for me. What am I paying them for if they are not protecting my home? read more

These guys are cheaper and I like to support smaller businesses vs the national chains. However they just aren't organized enough. Detail orientation and customer service are essential in the home security business. It was always tricky and arduous getting help via phone but the two worst transgressions: 1. They could not get the calls right when an alarm would occur. One time they called me twice instead of calling me and then my husband. Since I was on a plane this resulted in a police visit which I was charged 150$ for. They agreed they blew it and that they would credit my account the 150$ but when I had to relocate and close the account they refused to give me this credit because I was no longer a customer (??!! Still my money they squandered). 2. When I moved they set up an appointment to look at my new home and let me know the price to convert my service to Ackerman at the new location. They stood me up so I just went with ADT instead which I had at a previous home and they are much more professional. I feel safe with ADT because of their consistent attention to detail and responsiveness which I found Ackerman lacking. Hope this review helps someone! read more

These people are notorious for bait and switch tactics. Stay away. Clark Howard needs to stop promoting this company. When I set the 1st appt, the sales guy promised me that I would not pay more than $18.99 per mth for monthly monitoring. When the rude sales guy comes out, he tells me, "No, it will be $28.99 monthly because you do not have a telephone land line". Then after much deep thought, I gave them a go to come out and install the equipment. The guy then tells me that I have to pay another $99 for the radio, in addition to any other sensors & equipment that I would like to add. When I reminded him that he told me that I would not have to pay more than $100 out of pocket, and he would give me 3 mos for free, he then became very confrontational and said "Well, you were so angry at what the first guy said, that you never allowed me to tell you about the radio". Plus, I will lose my job if dont charge you for the sensors" He then became sarcastic, and refused to accept responsibility for his lies.We went back and forth to the point where he became so disruptive, I told him to get out of my house. read more

I wish I would have read these reviews before I decided to switch to Ackerman! I am currently experiencing my own installation nightmare. The customer service so far has been great but there is a disconnect between the sales reps and installers. I signed a 3 year contract to keep from paying for a new panel because I was told the existing panel was locked out by my old alarm company. The first installer wanted to charge me for a new panel and I informed him of the contract. Come to find out he replaced my 8 zone panel with a 6 zone panel and now my system does not work properly. The second installer came out and wanted to charge me $65 dollars to hardwire the zone that was tripping the alarm and $100 to upgrade the panel. I contacted my sales rep and then we were accused of letting our old alarm company replace our 8 zone panel with a 6 zone panel. Ackerman did this not my old alarm company! The panel issue is finally resolved but now I am waiting for the 3rd installer to fix the issue caused by the 1st installer. The frustrating part is they still want me to pay $65 since they hard wired a zone to fix an issue that Ackerman caused! I will update my review when I finally have a working alarm system! read more

I've had Ackerman service for years and I've never had an issue. A couple of months ago the system started beeping in the middle of the night and some gibberish code appeared on the keypad. When I called, I was informed that this meant that you had to test the alarm. I dutifully did so. A couple of days later the beeping started again, again in the middle of the night. This time, when I called, the rep again said I need to test the system. Having done it before with zero effect, I refused. She then said I would need a technician to come out for a fee of $90. When I pushed back and said I would cancel the service, she waived the fee. The tech did come out and he explained that this beeping issue has been known to Ackerman for months and that they are waiving the tech fee because it's a technical issue on their side. He was able to fix the problem but my questions are: Why did the first rep have me go through the rigamarole of testing the system when she knew that wasn't the issue? Second, why did they initially try to charge me $90 for a service call when they knew very well it was their issue? Very unprofessional. The reason I'm giving them 4 stars, though, is as I've said, this is the first issue I've had with them in years of being a customer and the technician was very honest and professional. read more

I am extremely disappointed with Ackerman Security. The only easy part of dealing with Ackerman is handing over my debit card. Service is unprofessional disorganized no follow through. My installation was scheduled for 12/23/16 I stated I absolutely would not be available until 1:00 pm I had to work until 12. I get home there is a note we were here at 12. Finally after multiple phone calls a service installer came . He found that the siren was not working and said he would be back the next morning. At 8:00 am I called and was informed no service was scheduled for that day after I insisted they contact the service person he said he called me and would be there in one hour he never called and three hours later I called again and was told he would call me back He called back and said he could come but not for 40 min and there would be an $89.95 service charge. This had never been mentioned the day before I said don't come I want to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor called wrote a report said I would get a call back in24 hours. It is now 72 plus hours no return call or follow up. read more
