I love speed at which they did it. The price was reasonable and I was able to recommend them to my in-laws. Clean work.

All Purpose Painting & Restoration - Before & After

All Purpose Painting & Restoration

Chris and his team at All Purpose Painting & Restoration did a few projects at my house this last…read moreyear. Last summer, they painted the entire exterior from a dirty dull beige to a lively white with black trim. They patched up all the holes/cracks in the stucco, power washed, and taped EVERYTHING! At the end of each day, they cleaned up and put away the tools so the house was still accessible. It's crazy how different the house looks compared to before. I'm just loving it! Then over the winter, Chris' team returned because I wanted my garage refinished. I had 70s paneling and broken/crumbling dry wall. Considering how much time I spend in my garage, I can't believe I lived with such an eye sore for so many years. I gave Chris the hard task of wanting smooth walls, and if you know...that's a whole lot of sanding. His team came through and delivered! I love the new paint color on the walls, and no longer despise my garage. Oh, and also want to mention that he also patched up a bunch of holes inside my house (from electrical work I had done) and matched the existing wall texture and paint. You can't even tell the difference. Overall, Chris is amazing to work with. He's super responsive via text/calls. He's worked with many contractors over the years, and can give referrals if additional work is needed for your home. I would definitely recommend All Purpose Painting to my friends and family.

Authority Painting - Exterior paint job in Newark.

The previous painter 15 or so years ago had also done a goofy/lackluster job, which added to the complexities of our current paint project. Steve and Authority Painting were prompt and organized when meeting us for a quote/evaluation, and replying with the itemized estimate. Since materials for every house improvement project are backordered forever, we got on the schedule for a couple months out. Right on time for the estimated time frame to start, they were able to begin this week. Our buildings are a bit difficult as my in-laws, who owned the home prior, built TWO extra garages, so essentially it's like painting a large 2-story house, or more. There is also a ton of detail in the exterior, so this made masking/painting a real pain. Steve's team arrived on time, was courteous, and asked questions when they weren't sure about an aspect of our house. They left each day by cleaning and tidying their work area as well. The work itself was super-duper, and completed within the estimated amount of time. The paint went on very tidy and nicely coated and refreshed our house. It looks very high-quality and like it will last for years and years, which is awesome. Hard to explain unless you see it: the paint "pops" and the lines are very clean! Steve addressed all the concerns I had about the previous shabby state of the house and paint, and my concerns that he would need several coats, etc. His and his team's experience in dealing with a variety of problems proved a real asset, as they could anticipate and prevent problems that would have blindsided me if I chose to DIY (trust me, don't DIY exterior paint, get a professional!).

Great at providing color samples so we could be sure of our final choice. We couldn't be happier with the final outcome. Thank you!

They were able to match the paint and make our outside wall look like new. I felt that they went above and beyond by getting to hard to reach areas and we are very satisfied with their work. We especially appreciated that Hugo came back the next day to touch up a few things that we had noticed. Both him and Jose were great! They also charge a fair price for their service. They also did some interior painting work and they did a great job there as well. They are very professional and talented in their craft. Would use them again for any painting needs we have!

Unprofessional, careless, and combative…read more I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for your painting needs. Working with this company was a stressful experience from start to finish. Poor Communication & Absent Management: Communication across the board--with both the owner, Ibsan, and his crew--was frustrating. I was asked for my color choices probably 10 times and Ibsan and his crew kept threatening extra charges for finishes that were explicitly included in their original quote. Messy Worksite & Property Damage: Throughout the entire project, the crew constantly left our property in disarray, scattering tools, paint cans, and trash across our front, back, and side yards. They also damaged our attic vents and refused to take responsibility, claiming the damage was pre-existing. The crew also never fully cleaned up--I still have tons of paint chips and paint drops everywhere. Complete Disregard for Property Protection: I specifically emphasized how important it was to properly block off the soffit vents over my garage, as I store a lot of items in it alongside a brand new vehicle. All they did was cover them with a thin layer of masking tape, which blew right off during pressure washing. Instead of stopping to fix it, Hugo, the foreman, kept right on power washing directly into the open vents and shrugged it off when I brought it to his attention. My car and everything stored in the garage were covered with dirty sludge which will take me me days to clean. Sloppy Workmanship & Cut Corners: While they did an excellent job on stucco patching and prep, basic surface prep like scraping and sanding elsewhere was really inconsistent, leaving an uneven finish in several areas. Even on day 1, the crew wasn't even planning to use a commercial mold remover despite visible mold present. Hugo argued with me, as he did throughout the entire project; while Ibsan agreed to handle it, he simply returned with a small spray bottle of consumer-grade cleaner you can get at Safeway and they only bothered to treat my rain gutters. Also, they completely skipped painting several surfaces you can't see from the ground, like the tops of beams and soffits. Gaslighting & Constant Pushback: Whenever I pointed out a clear mistake either in prep or painting, the crew always said, "it was like that, you just didn't notice it before" so I had to show them "before" photos proving otherwise and then they begrudgingly corrected the mistake. Getting basic issues addressed required pressing them repeatedly. Hugo tried to convince me that I should "just trust the professional painter" and spent three days arguing to leave an unmasked, un-prepped window frame they accidentally painted--an issue that ultimately took just 5 minutes to clean. Hugo said, "well it's worth trying." Ignoring Instructions & Insubordination: The most absurd moment of the entire job happened on our porch. While applying a specialized product Ibsan admitted they had never used before, Hugo and I discussed the plan earlier in the day, which called for a 4-hour dry time between coats per the label instructions. Yet just an hour after he applied it, he started applying a second coat anyway. When I caught this and directly asked him to stop, he completely ignored my instructions, feeding me some nonsense line about "letting the product talk to him"--clearly rushing to finish the job so they wouldn't have to return the next day as discussed. He refused to stop working on my own property and literally kept painting right in front of me until I had to call Ibsan to intervene. It was completely mind-boggling and if Ibsan hadn't answered, my next call was to the police. To cap it all off, after that major altercation with Hugo, Ibsan promised to call the next day to address what had happened, but clearly didn't care enough to do so. To be fair, the end result looks good as long as you don't get too close, but there were much cheaper bids that would have accomplished the same thing with a lot less stress. If you're not willing to constantly fight and push for what you want, avoid them entirely. Save yourself the headache and hire a team that respects you, your home, your contract, and basic professional standards.

From Aug 22nd to Aug 24th, I consulted with three independent painters. All three independently…read moretold me that the method used to remove the wallpaper was not appropriate. They explained that applying primer over the remaining wallpaper backing paper can seal it and the adhesive underneath, making proper removal significantly more difficult. I was also told that, in the worst-case scenario, portions of the drywall may need to be removed and replaced if the backing paper and adhesive cannot be removed without damaging the drywall. To respond to the Color Pro Inc. owner's comment: He sent me a refund offer the next day (Aug. 20th) and acknowledged that I had paid a total of $20,000 under the interior and exterior contracts ($10,000 for each, respectively). The exterior painting had not started. He offered to refund $13,800 while retaining $6,200 for what he described as materials, labor, preparation, and drywall subcontractor costs for interior painting work. Regarding the interior work, the work performed by his crew was essentially to peel off the vinyl layer of the wallpaper and apply primer over the remaining backing paper and adhesive, which was again an inappropriate method for wallpaper removal. In addition, the drywall company owner who was on site on the morning of Aug. 19th told me that the walls were not ready for retexturing. The proposed refund was conditioned on my signing a written settlement agreement releasing all claims arising from the project and termination of the agreements. I have retained the written correspondence documenting this offer. Since the matter is currently under review through my legal service, I am not planning to disclose the email itself. In addition, although the house is large, the interior painting contract covers only the walls and approximately 20% of the ceilings. There are no particularly tall walls except in the stairway area. I can provide detailed measurements later to clarify the actual scope of the interior painting work if needed.
