Our house was previously painted just 5 years ago--the prior crew was finished in two days but it became clear that the low paint quality and prep work meant we started seeing chips within a year. In contrast, Eric and his team spent over a week with a crew twice as big doing a very solid job preparing and patching and then painting our two-story house. Everyone was a very diligent worker, friendly and polite, and they coordinated with a skilled carpenter to replace damaged wood. Now our place looks fantastic. Between the prep work and the high quality paint from Sherwin Williams, we are confident we won't need to repaint again in 5 years! We were pleased with Cartwright Painters who made the exterior of our house beautiful once again. Cartwright was fast, reliable, responsive, and professional. Our project manager, Aaron Milne, quickly responded to our questions and concerns. His quote was complete in that he included details about all the repairs we requested of him: repair cracks in the stucco, stain and seal our front door, and paint our back deck. He explained to us the types of paints that were available from Sherwin-Williams, Cartwright's supplier. He priced the project competitively and when I called him to discuss his competitors' prices he made some adjustments. We obtained estimates from two other licensed, and three unlicensed, painting contractors. We spoke by phone with multiple references for two of Cartwright's competitors. Cartwright's references were as good as or better than the other companys' references. In addition, whereas Cartwright gave us a complete and final quote, their competitors' quotes all varied in price and completeness. For example, some competitors required us to buy the paint before the project was to begin whereas others would buy it if they were reimbursed before work commenced. In other cases, all other competitors incomplete quotes by not responding to our specific requests. Cartwright's quote was complete and businesslike. They have a net 30-day contract with their paint suppliers which means that they only asked us for a 10% down payment before they started work. The balance was due upon satisfactory completion of the project. We were pleased with the professionalism and friendliness of our painting crew, Aurelio and Ramiro. We are grateful to them for having taken time to show us three different paint schemes on our house. They painted three swathes of our trim and walls in the front and back of the house. This was determinant in our color selection. Our crew worked diligently throughout the five and a half days it took to complete the project. Moreover, they worked during the first week of July, 2024, the hottest this year. We often spoke with Aurelio about taking time for rest breaks. We agreed to earlier start times on several hot days. They always started work on the shadiest side before painting other parts of the house. Aurelio's work on our front door was most impressive because it was a singular challenge. He is a master painter. Aurelio and Ramiro sanded the wood until it was completely bare, and then they stained the doors over two days before adding a final polyurethane finish. We chose Jonathan and Aaron's team at Cartwright for painting the entire exterior of our home. We consulted with other contractors, but Cartwright had the most thorough preparation, was able to paint the eaves a different color than the body of the home (without charging extra) and didn't need to use my neighbor's sideyards. Other contractors were not able to do this and proposed lower quality paint. Aaron and Jonathan were my main contacts and they were prompt and responsive during the entire process and gave good advice on the colors and sheen. We just had our house exterior repainted as well as a shed and a pergola in the backyard by Cartwright. I found them intially through Angie's List and liked the finished pictures of some of the homes they had painted. Aaron was very quick with the request for a quote and I appreciated the quote having the step by step process explained. There was some confusion with the paint colors but it was corrected without too much problem. We had two painters for our project and I found them to be very respectful of our property, which I appreciated. They were always on time, which is not always the case these days. They came out on a Saturday because it had rained Friday am. This definitely helped to get the project done in a timely manner. Today is 03.22.23 and I unfortunately found out that there was water leakage in my bathroom window caused by the storm in San Jose. My parents recommended that I work with my uncle's contractor (name and details removed here to avoid slandering), to which I learned that horizontal rainfall against my stucco wall made it through some new cracks and created leakage. I was given a sticker shock-worthy quote, with no bill of material details, process on how to solve and future-proof other than "we'll apply a few coats of *special sealant* to your wall and it will solve the issue." I sent out an SOS on Yelp and AARON (Sales Consultant) from Cartwright Painters immediately replied and made himself available. Aaron was intensely mindful of my situation, patiently responded to my never-ending questions, offered professional + honest guidance, and even offered competitive pricing. What I appreciated the most was the level of detail in which he described their assessment process, statement of work, materials used, and above and beyond service to ensure color matching and ongoing warranty. We communicated over the course of several hours as I was doing additional due diligence and exploring other businesses as well. He was never pushy, salesy, or rude whatsoever. I finally decided to get a new paint job for the house. I've held off on this project for so long (several years), so it was important for me to get this right the first time. Otherwise, I'd be living with a paint job that I wasn't completely satisfied with for the next several years or so. I went on Yelp, did some research, contacted and met with several potential painting contractors. I had a very specific and detailed color scheme that I had in mind. There were pros and cons for each of them -- some were simply priced way above the baseline of estimates that I was receiving, some expressed limitations on what they were capable of doing (i.e. requiring the paint color underneath the eaves to match the color of the house body, which was something that I did not want), etc. After weighing my options, I ultimately decided to go with Cartwright Painters. Not only did they give me the best/fairest deal, but they also did not express any of those types of limitations. I met with Aaron, who was the project manager of the job. We did our walk through, and I explained to him what I wanted, and he clearly understood my vision. He was honest, easy-to-engage, and trustworthy, which is always a big plus when dealing with contractors. He made the entire process (end-to-end) very seamless for me. It is worth noting that during our meeting, I mentioned to Aaron that I had my daughter's birthday party coming up the following Saturday. My main concern was if any work equipment would be left around by the time my daughter's party arrived. I was completely fine if they decided to start the work after that date. However, I think Aaron got the sense that I would've been really happy if they could get the paint job done before the party. That way I have a new paint job to showcase to our guests. Aaron said that they could get it done before then. It took them 5 days (Mon to Friday) to complete the job. By that Friday evening, the house was painted, looking very nice, with no mess left behind. We received many compliments on the new paint job from Saturday's guests. Shout out to the guys that performed the work -- Alex, Victor, Jesus, Gilbert, and one more other guy (I forgot his name, but I think it was Eugene?) Those guys were professional, courteous, and were clear experts at what they do. If they had any questions, I'd only need to explain to them once, and they understood what I wanted. We decided to go with Cartwright not only for the price but also because they were able to do the job within a reasonable time, unlike another company who quoted us a few weeks out. My husband especially appreciated the communication with Brandon. We were able to call, text, and FaceTime with him. We had already painted another room previously and wanted to match the paint. My husband was able to text Brandon a photo of the old paint can and they were able to pick up the right paint color for us. The painters and Brandon showed up on time the day of the job. I had a very sizable painting project a couple weeks ago. Needed to repaint a wood deck, pergola and a concrete deck. I had a few quotes from Yelp from both painters and construction contractors. Eventually I went with Cartwright. Honestly say, Cartwright's price wasn't the cheapest one among all the quotes. In fact, it is noticeable higher. But Aaron explained the steps that will take place for the jobs and the points that I was really concerned, such as sanding the wood, repairing the wood, and repairing the cracked concrete. The crew led by Aurelio was good. Aurelio was very knowledgeable. Since I was home for the week that the team was working so I was able communicate with both Aaron and Aurelio well. They accommodated some of detailed painting very well. The pergola turned out beautifully. I had this reprinted a few times before. This one is the best. The concrete painting was the next. It reached my expectation, and my wife is satisfied. This is important since she was against the concrete painting . There was a color mix-up at the beginning for the concrete painting, but it was corrected without extra cost. The wood deck is old, the repainting turned out to be ok. Not a review of the quality of workmanship...They failed to show up for an appointment to get a quote, so I tried one more time and set up a second appointment with them the following week, and they failed to show up for that one as well. I don't have any background on their work, but honestly wouldn't be able to trust that they would complete a job at this point. Update: I'm sort of taken aback by the response to my review. No one came to our door, we were present the entire time and we re-checked our ring for anyone having come to the door. I was the one who reached out over yelp because no one showed up. Only after my communication did I hear back three hours later with a request to contact via phone - where I did text and we set up another appointment for the following week. Again, on the second appointment no one showed up, nor did anyone contact me with why no one showed up. Only after I posted a review here did I get a response claiming that someone showed up and no one was there, subsequently making an excuse that you must have gone to the wrong address (which has never been a problem in the 9 years we have lived there). Again, I have no basis for the workmanship of the company, but the coordination fell short. We've had a lengthy text exchange following my review, so laying the blame on me here is surprising to say the least. read more

There are just too many good things I can say about my experience with Cartwright Painters! (1) The first thing I saw, right away, was how punctual they were --- if they said they would respond by a certain time, they did. They came right on time for the estimate appointment, they delivered their estimate on that same day, and they always arrived on time to work. To me, this says a lot about how responsible and trustworthy a company is. (2) Aaron, the sales manager (or whatever you call his job), was SO very patient and responsive to my zillion questions I texted him prior to my choosing their company (from the four different companies I took estimates from), no matter what time I messaged him; I would tell him I thought I was being a pest, but he would always say, "That's what I'm here for." (3) The three workers (Alex, Victor, and Eugenio) were competent, careful, and painstaking in their work, and made a point to clean up thoroughly after each day's work. (4) Finally, they were really friendly and respectful guys. And, oh yes, I forgot to mention --- their quote was the lowest of all four companies I had gotten bids from. It was 57% of the highest bid, for the same work. That was not what drew me to them, however; I chose them for all the reasons above. I could kind of sense, from my first meeting with Aaron for the estimate, that this might be a responsible company. (Of the other three companies, some were late in either arriving to the estimate appointment, or wrote down the wrong date for the appointment, or took two days or more to send their bid, or weren't as responsive when I emailed or texted them questions.) Finally, another thing that really impressed me was how they took full responsibility to replace an accidentally-damaged wooden basement bulkhead door, with Brandon and Aurelio spending four hours on Sunday, two days after the painting job was done, to build the door.
